Enchantment bonuses don't stack, so Noravia only gets partial benefit from the Sanctify Armor (and I assume you have to cast it on your own armor for the wearer (you) to get that DR bonus)... decent for yourself, but for anyone else, it's a downgraded version of Magical Vestment (duration in minutes instead of hours).

As for Crusader's Edge... Eirik and Jillian already have outsider bane (evil) weapon, so little extra benefit there. You could always cast that on yourself too, but you did have that Bane class ability already.

I didn't know that you two already had bane weapons. Now I have to rethink my life choices...

Action 2

"Don't know that we need a plan," Jillian shrugged. "Caleb threw the old stupid-whammy at her, and now she's just a big lizard. Doubt she'll cause trouble again."

Action 3

Quote:
Is murdering people something the Silver Ravens support?”

Jillian opened her mouth to volunteer, then realized that Marquel might not be making a request. She shut her mouth again and let wiser voices offer their council.

Stats

Action 2:
"A really, really big lizard." Caleb shook "I threw the thing that one shotted us - twice - at her, and it took till the third time to make it stick. Not a fight I'd like to try again - next time we should just kill her." he looked up "Riz. If she 'wakes up', make sure you tell your mum that was stage 1. Stage 2 was to use her against THRUNE, almost certainly getting her killed and violating her contract in the same action. If you hadn't intervened, then she'd be Dead AND Damned now. Also tell her we know the mistakes the previous Ravens made, and the only reason we're not following her out to her lair to kill her while she's damaged is because she's your mum. If we get word she's woken up, and we don't get word we've got peace AT THE SAME TIME, then we'll come after her. And we're going to put in the time to do it right, this time. Fire and Lightning protection. Arrows with her name enchanted on them. Dragonbane. She's hit the Raven's twice - we'll be ready the third time."
He looked around "Am I right? Big dragon fought the old Ravens, probably the same one? I've been mostly thinking about the Song and... other things... for the last while."

Stats

Action 3:
"Look, Marquel... There are those of us who would. We'd kill someone to save thousands. If you give the word, then we'll take him out. If you want us try to find another way, we will." Caleb looked over to Eirik "How about we make a contract with him, that if THR... Brassy hasn't come out in the next week he agrees to step down in favour of you. If he does, and wins, he gets evidence to disprove the charges. It's win-win for his house. If we're winning, you've been with us and loyal since the start. If we're losing he gets to look clean and loyal. Stick in a codpieciel though - if he does anything to interfere, he forfeits and we kill him." He looks over the others "We can negotiate the duration. I reckon if we try the song again there'll be a Pit Fiend waiting for us, though."

"Is murdering people something the Silver Ravens support?”

"It's a dangerous door to open, but if there are no other options..." Eirik murmured. He definitely didn't love the idea of assassinations, but if the good of the citizens required one person to die, the equation was simple enough. That being said, he’d love to find an alternative solution.

Female Human Inquisitor(Infiltrator)/10

Action 2:

Noravia agreed with the others. "We don't have a specific plan per se. Rizolla will eventually try to reason with her. Even diminished by Caleb's spell, Rizovair is a formidable opponent. But it would be better for everyone involved if she remains in her current state. At least now she doesn't view Kintargo as an enemy and I'd like to keep it that way. But if for some reason she does show her face again in Kintargo, we will have to end her. It's just too big a risk to the citizens."

Action 3:

Noravia was disappointed with the Poison Pen's news. "When was the last time you spoke with your father? Have either of you seen the roof of the Opera House? Surely that is proof for your father that the tides are changing for Kintargo."

The inquisitor then stayed in uncomfortable silence as the conversation turned to possible murder.

Of course, if people had +3 weapons and they then became bane, then they would bypass all DR except epic against that bane (+5 bpasses everything including alignment

Male Human Monk (unchained) 11

Yeah... the communal align weapon will likely remain very valuable to us, as getting two more enchantment bonuses on Eirik's gear won't be easy... his lightning & bane amulet gets him to +3, and bodywrap boosts one attack to +4 each round, but...

And speaking of the gear... here's Eirik's current set:

Gear (GP value 59900)
Alchemist's Fire (2)
Amulet of Mighty Fists +2 (Shock, Evil Outsider Bane)
Belt of Physical Might +2 (Dex and Con)
Body Wrap of Mighty Strikes +1
Boots of Speed
Bracers of Armor +2
Clothes (dark grey wool shirt and trousers, soft leather boots, knee-length, short and wide-sleeved black hooded robe, white cloth belt)
Cloak of Resistance +2
Eyes of the Eagle
Gauntlets of the Skilled Maneuver (Disarm)
Holy Water (2)
Ring of Protection +1
Signal Whistle
Smokestick
Tindertwig
Potion of Bear's Endurance

Soo... if the aim was 82k, that'd leave him with 22k to work with.

Male Human Monk (unchained) 11

Just thinking aloud here, so I won't forget... I think a Monk's Robe would be the next ideal item, as it would greatly enhance his damage (1d10 -> 2d8 base damage with every strike, with a couple points of AC thrown in as a bonus). Won't help with the DR issues, of course, except by getting through it the hard way.

Female Human Inquisitor(Infiltrator)/10

Action 2:

Poison Pen wrote:

“I heard about you barely escaping today; we are

on the winning side, right?”

Noravia gave a small exasperated sigh. "Why is everyone so focused on us barely escaping or barely surviving today? How many people can go up against a dragon and survive, period? I think we did pretty good today. I think we showed ourselves as a force to be reckoned with. Especially since we were slightly misinformed regarding the dragon's abilities."

Stats

Hey - didn't we have a plan to raise Hetamon, but we were waiting for an ordered scroll to arrive? Is that still happening?

Stats

Action 2:
"Noravia's right. And we need to control this story. THRUNE will have us as barely having survived. Let's put it out as having heroically driven her off. Or..." he looked thoughtful "The dragon Rizovair was being controlled by a devil. We drew the devil forth, killed it and the dragon - freed of its influence - flew off. Though we sustained some injuries fighting the dragon we were careful not to injure the poor thing and used only nonlethal attacks on it. At the end of the battle every Raven still stood, and stood triumphant." He shrugged "It has the benefit of being almost true, and makes us look sort of heroic. Nicely recasts why the dragon was uninjured as us pulling our blows. That makes us seem stupid, but heroically, powerfully stupid."

Caleb Cage wrote:

Hetamon's body is not 'whole' so you cannot raise him.

Besides, someone has to die in these rebellions. I never liked the availability of raise dead spells/scrolls because it tends to cheapen death so I limit those.

Dead is dead, otherwise there is no risk or fun in these big fights.

Dead is dead, unless you have a magical opera house to bring you back from the dead.

Is our last thing to do (that we know of) pretty much getting Marquel's father to sign on to the plan? Or get rid of him so the Pen can do it himself?

What's up with Thrune? He's squirrelled away somewhere? Can we do something to hurt him?

Here's what's left to do for a final decisive victory:

a) Kintargo currently is part of Cheliax (who's backed by Hell). The only reason Cheliax has not turned their eyes (and forces) on Kintargo is because they are 'busy' with a bunch of Iomedaen Knights (Glorious Rebellion). Therefore, you must find a way to break the Kintargo-Cheliax link or Kintargo will be overrun (even if you beat Barzillai). The contract devil has potentially found a way. Getting a friendly ruler in Kintargo is the first step. Then comes the part about getting Cheliax to recognize this...; and

b) When (and if) Kintargo is free from Cheliax influence, you still have to defeat Barzillai (who's holed up in the temple of Asmodeus).

I'm assuming you guys want to finish this story but I won;t get hurt if you don't. Please don't feel obliged if the interest just isn't there.

Thanks for that synopsis. Sometimes I lost track of what our goals are other than destroying Thrune :)

I have complete interest in finishing this story. Just a little lost on where to go from here if Marquel's dad doesn't budge.

Away from home, so trying to read the mountain of old posts via tiny phone screen... did we already consider forcing the old man to give up his position in favour of his son? This being a country under Infernal law, I somehow doubt free will amounts to anything if proper formalities are followed... coercion would still be needed, but a life would be spared. And if he officially made his son the family head, following the law, would there be any wriggling away from it?

We had discussed this and the risk was in 'what happens if later the man said he was coerced to abdicate?'.

The contract devil said that was a risk that could void the contract but you guys can try again if desired.

Tillia listened as they discussed what to do about Marquel's father. The man was being recalcitrant and stubborn and she couldn't say that he was entirely wrong. That murdering or blackmailing him was still on the table was a shock to her and she stood up as they discussed it again and said, "Look," she smacked her palms on the table, "We need to take these murder and blackmail ideas and throw them in the trash. We can't do either of those and make the clause of the contract stick." She glared at each of them in turn, "We can not resort to what Thrune would, if we do we've become no better than them. Even worse we will sacrifice the hope of the city for freedom." She was breathing heavily as she continued, "We need to convince him to side with us and that will likely require some kind of big victory. Particularly after this whole mess with Rivozair. We barely got out of that one alive and I don't think any spinning of the story is gonna make people really believe otherwise."

Tillia sat down then and said, "Marquel, is there anything, anything at all, that will get your dad to side with us? We have to do this by the book if we want it to work because you all know that Thrune will unearth the truth and then our hopes for freedom are gone."

Noravia was a little surprised by by the emotion of Tillia's response but the inquisitor did agree with her words. "Tillia's right. We can't stoop to Thrune's level. We fight because we have to but the Ravens aren't cold-blooded murderers. And we can't risk the contract by trying to manipulate the rules."

However, there was one point that Noravia did disagree with Tillia on. "No one is trying to spin anything regarding the dragon. Surviving a dragon attack and getting it to leave Kintargo when it was going to terrorize the city and kill its citizens is a victory. Those part of the rebellion need something to celebrate because otherwise we all just get battle-weary. We have to remember the morale of those who fight with us, not just Marquel's father."

"It would be nice if no-one ever needed to resort to desperate measures for the sake of greater good," Eirik sighed. "But let's be realistic here. We have only so much time before the Her Infernal Majestrix has the troops to spare to send here to crush the rebellion at sword-point. Playing the devil's game with the Contract seems the only way available to us that might prevent the armies from marching. And one man stands between us and that goal. If you have a concrete idea how to persuade Marquel's father after his own plea already failed, please share it with us. We do have some time left, but who knows how long? The first warning we'll get might be an army sighted by the lookouts on the wall."

"Eirik; I know that you know that Noravia and I are engaged. We wanted to get hitched soon - but there's always some catastrophe." Caleb shook a little "I almost lost her - no, I DID lose her on the last mission. Literal divine intervention brought her back to me for a second chance. I always knew I could die at any point, but I never really thought I could lose her..." Caleb trailed off.
"I want to marry her, now, Eirik. Right now." Caleb looked a little embarrassed "I know I'm not very demonstrative, and neither are you, but I've been through more with you than anyone but Noravia or Ves. I'd like you to be my best man." Caleb stopped abruptly, and looked straight into Eirik's eyes. "I would be honoured if you would consent to be my best man, Eirik Clausen, when I marry the love of my life."

Quote:

He added, “Now the contract would be voided if the murder could be traced back to the

Ravens or Marquel for if Marquel’s father were to not exists then the command and rule of his
family line would fall to Marquel.”

”Well, that complicates matters nicely,” Eirik groaned. "If a document correctly crafted and signed by the current Lord where he announces his abdication in favour of his son could be twisted and contested by the enemy to void the Contract, then now could we possibly remove the man without leaving any room for suspicion that we did it? Were the Lord to choke on a fish bone during dinner tomorrow, I suspect we would still be blamed – after all, he is supporting the Thrunes at the moment so we’d by default have something to gain from his death, even if no-one had ever heard of the Contract.”

Caleb wrote:

Noravia's eyes widened in surprise. She thought back at Caleb, I didn't think you thought I was serious so no...I haven't talked to anyone yet. I'm surprised so you might as well surprise everyone. Most everyone is here and those who aren't can be easily reached. Anyone watching the inquisitor would probably think she was going mad with the myriad of emotions that flooded across her face in a matter of seconds. According to Fabians plot recap above, we need to break the Kintargo-cheliax connection first, THEN kill Thrune. Can we not kill Thrune first? If we kill him now, then he's definitely no longer the "winning side". Or have I forgotten something?

Action 1:

"So let's present his head? Surely we can take him down?" Jillian had heard plenty of rumours about Thrune, but hadn't experienced him for herself. "Caleb, can your little bugs not go and check out the temple where he's hiding?"

Turning to Rizolla, she said, "If your mother has calmed down, can you not convince her to fight WITH us, and not AGAINST us? Surely she's more tractable now?"

Noravia looked doubtful. "One does not simply waltz into the Asmodean Temple. I doubt I could even get in there dressed up in my uniform. Although that may be an option - but I'd probably be going in alone and wouldn't like my chances."

@Eirik - what about Noravia makes you think the first thing she'll do is redecorate Caleb's place? :P And she may be able to snap Caleb like a twig but he could turn her mind to mush.

Caleb's sheet should be okay, once items are done. I haven't update the profile yet, though.

I believe the issue with going in to kill Brassy was that THRUNE might come down on us like a ton of bricks. If we have all the contracts in order though, and Marquel's dad has signed something to the effect, then the moment Brassy is dead we could revoke THRUNE'S right to send troops.
If THRUNE then does send troops, they'd void their deal with hell while trying to put down an insurrection and the Crusade. Even THRUNE might have trouble with that one.
Odds are they'll do a quick Augury first; "if we send our troops to crush some backwood bumpkins how will it go?" gets "Woe." and they hold off.

True... on the other hand, if they do send up troops, they'll take some days or weeks to get here (logictics slow down any large group), we get the contract signed before they arrive, the Thrunes end up violating it before they know it's a thing and it'll spell trouble for the empire... which would likely do good for other cities and groups who want more freedom. Could be we get in deep trouble, though ;^)

But greater good might well be served.

Action1

"Do we need to remove the feeblemind spell? I thought it might work better without it. Right now she can't think for herself. Doesn't that mean she might be more likely to follow your lead. If you go and be nice to her, maybe bring some food or something, and she feels that maternal connection, then she'll see you as a "friend". Then all you need to do is get her to come with you. You can lead her right to the fight. And then she'll see those in the temple as "enemy", and fight them. All we have to do is keep fighting her enemies, and stay out of her way, and hopefully she'll burn up the right folks."

Action 2

Jillian had a lopsided, confused smile on her face. "Married? Now? But why? Why not wait until we've won, then you can enjoy your honeymoon in peace."

Action 2

Noravia quickly moved over to Tillia and clasped her hands in hers. "I would be absolutely thrilled if you’d agree to stand up with me as my Maid of Honor. We’ve been through so much together, both good and bad. I can’t imagine anyone else being there for me.” Noravia couldn’t stop smiling. ”Besides, someone needs to help make me look presentable.”

Tillia pulled Noravia into an embrace and said, "I'd be happy to Noravia!" She released the embrace an stepped back, "So, how quickly do we need to be ready?"

"A drink is an option?" Caleb asked hopefully. "You think she might want to do up the flooded underground cavern with a statue to a different goddess in it? Or the 'holiday house' of a shack built on top of a roof and covered in wasps? I'd happily giver her all I have, for as long as I live."

”It seems to be a tradition,” Eirik said, recalling the wedding parties of his various sisters and brothers. But then Noravia stormed in, and with a smile Eirik took a hasty step back to give the two lovers some room. He began racking his brain about marriage traditions… as someone who had prepared to spend his life in celibacy he had never had much personal interested in the marriage rites, and the weddings he had participated as a guest or as a minor assistant had been between two worshippers of Abadar. So he felt he had to do some thinking to come up with a suitable symbolic gift for two heathens.

Yes and remember...

If the Menador Gap can be closed, Cheliax’s major land route to the northwest will be cut off, giving Kintargo the time it needs to rebel.

... and you guys did that. Remember the saboteur team?

BTW, I'd like to move things along but I need a direction/decision as to what to do next...

Anyone want to write up a 'wedding post'?

Questions?

Game on!

We're working on a 'wedding post' :)

Jillian is happy to go either way. She would happily assassinate Marquiel's dad, hopefully she can do it without implicating the Ravens. Or she's just as happy to go up against Brassy. If we don't get any level/gear bonuses to waiting, might as well do it now.

Well, after the wedding, of course. :)
