Action 1
Tillia listened as Noravia asked more questions of Zea and the tiefling responded. What she heard sounded plausible and she began to suspect that this tiefling that was with her may have been Hetamon's mother in disguise somehow. She didn't like the idea of treating this woman as a prisoner but for now she had to agree that just letting her go like this wasn't a good thing. "I agree with Noravia," the mage said, "You should stay here tonight and you can take us to see the others tomorrow."
Sense Motive on her story: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22
Tilia realized that the woman felt something was off, that she'd done something wrong. If she'd been mind controlled then she might be remembering something she did while under the influence of the magic. She looked at the others and then said, "Stay here please Zea, I need to speak with the others privately." She stepped outside and had a couple of people go in to guard her and gestured the others out into the hallway.

Those who come out"
Tillia looked at them all once they were safely outside of Zea'z earshot and said, "Alright, did she seem magically controlled or not when you fought her?" She looked at them intently, "I thought someone told me she was, and she seems to be telling the truth as she knows it, but there seems to be some doubt." She looked at Noravia, "You're right to suspect something is wrong here, it's just a question of what."

Tillia let the others voice their thoughts and then continued, "I believe her story, as far as it goes, and it's possible that she might remember more, with time, about the tiefling." she gave them a worried look, "I think that the tiefling woman that was with her was Hetamon's mother, that she may be a shapeshifter as well."

Well crap, I didn't realize that the knowledge check I tried to do on the society she mentioned wasn't done right.
Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30

Action 2
As they discussed the point Rexus brought up about what happens after Brassy was removed Tillia found herself agreeing that there was a problem to be found there. "I agree that our own interim government until we can put things back how they were is important, and while I would like to agree that we not rejoin Cheliax I have to agree that preventing that is a rather significant problem. Noravia's right that if they want to take us back badly enough they could, the trick would be convincing them it wasn't worth their effort or that they had no right to." She grinned viciously, "I have to admit the latter method, using the law to prevent them from returning, would be far more satisfying means, and less deadly."

Action 4
Tillia considered all that needed done and knew that high on their list was verifying Zea's story. She knew they needed to do research on the what Brassy might be up to and how to keep the Thrunes out for good once they ousted him, but she suspected this organization Zea was a part of might be helpful. She tracked down Rexus and when she found him said, "Rexus, I'm going to take Zea to Redroof to try and verify her story. Would you mind starting to research what Brassy is really up to while I'm gone? I'll try and help you when I get back."

Tillia tracked down the others and found that Noravia and Elsbeth were occupied trying to help Caleb, and she avoided Jillian and Hob, when she found that Eirik was occupied researching, like she would normally be doing, she decided that maybe she should just handle this herself. She found a pen and paper and then put together a note to let them know that she was taking Zea to Redroof to verify her story.

More to come, hopefully this morning but if not it will be tomorrow.

"What? We need to find that witch before she does something to us again! She'll be lying in ambush somewhere, waiting for someone to be alone. Ves! Ves, come out here. We need to talk!"

Caleb turned to the others "I was talking with Noravia just beforehand... look, we need a way to find each other. There's a spell Ves taught me. It's a Callistrian hunting... anyway. If I cast it on someone, I can know where they are - more or less - at any time. I think we should use it on the Silver Ravens. Us, I mean, not the statues." Caleb rubbed at his temples, and wondered if his mind would come ever come back completely. "Noravia and I are using it on each other, anyway. I couldn't stand it if she vanished like Hetamon did."

"That woman who attacked us. Can you ask Callistria for her name? How do we find her? How do we take her down?" Caleb demanded.

But now that YOU say it I can see that's what I should do IMMEDIATELY." Ves was scornful "I can't go asking Callistria every time something comes up. I'm not supposed to do it except for major theological questions. I flew through a loophole to ask about the stuff at that masquerade, and it didn't help. If you really can't find out who she is in" Ves considers "a week, then I'll give it a go."

Noravia had exited with Tillia, "We didn't have a lot of time to converse with her before she attacked Eirik and did some pretty significant damage to him. Then she was knocked out and restrained. It's very possible that she was affected by magic but we still need to be skeptical until we know more."

"Considering what we saw of her capabilities, being able to change her shape wouldn't surprise me in the slightest," Eirik said, frowning in thought. Somehow, he didn't think the devil-woman was of the forgiving or forgetting sort - adding her yearning for their blood to answer for the slight was not something they needed.

Action 4

Eirik joined Rexus for an extended session of research, making good use of the fact that a little bit of meditation replaced long nights sleeping to fit even hours into the day. While Rexus attacked the question from one angle Eirik approached it from another, occasionally exchanging notes when one came across something he thought might lead to something. To be frank, Eirik wasn't willing to bet on their success, but assuming the Paracount wasn't truly mad there had to be some logic behind his actions, and since nothing else so far had revealed it to them, then perhaps the roots to his current behavior could be found in the history of him, his House and the city he was currently lording over and the place where two of the three overlapped.

Although it wasn't impossible there was some arcane goal the man had in mind either... that attempted massacre by devils in the opera house had to Eirik's nose the stink of a ritual sacrifice, something his Ulfen ancestors of old might have attempted - minus the devils... unless it was merely the act of someone who wore his underclothes on the top and held long conversations with houseplants.

She didn't want to let him go but she she knew Elsbeth didn't really like to be touched so she released them both from her embrace and began to answer Caleb's questions.

"Rizolla is physically okay and hopefully will soon be healed as you were." She looked down as she broke the next news to Caleb. "You and Rizolla had been stripped of your minds, Ves almost died, we couldn't find Hetamon's mother because she was invisible so we had to retreat and get reinforcements. When we returned..." she took a deep breath, "When we returned, she was gone but Hetamon was dead." What was done with the bodies (hags and dino) inside?

My vote for bodies: if there's a place we could burn them outside without drawing a lot of attention, then that's the best option. If that means chopping them up so that we can move them out with all the rubbish, then Jillian will volunteer for that duty. If there's really no way to get them upstairs, then we'll need to find a place to stash them down here.

Action 1

Jillian stayed to keep a watchful eye on Zea while Tillia spoke with the others.

Jillian watched as with delight as Caleb was returned to himself, and "reunited" with Noravia. The inquisitors joy spoke volumes of how worried she'd truly been. When she had a moment, she offered her hand to Caleb and said, "I'm Jillian Falto. It seems that I'll be working with the Ravens for the time being. Not sure if I count as one of you yet, but if there's magic that will help, I'm happy to use it."

Action 4

Jillian volunteered to return and help with whatever needed to be done below with Noravia and the others.

Is there anything that Jillian needs to do to officially become an officer? Will that come up after she's "proven herself"? Can we have some IC acknowledgement of her joining the team?

Noravia wasn't ready to leave Caleb's side and so was present when she introduced herself. "That's the other thing, Caleb. Vandomir's aunt called him home to take care of family business and he couldn't say when he'd be back. Jillian has been helping out in his absence."

The inquisitor clapped the younger woman on the shoulder. "You're not afraid of hard work and you can handle yourself in a fight. Forvian recommended you so that's good enough for me. I'm ok with you hanging around for the time being, if that's something you want. As you can tell, it's risky business." Then Noravia gave Jillian a teasing smile, "But I think I'll have to give you a few diplomacy lessons."

Eirik grimaced as he thought about the excruciations, particularly considering the current apparent mind-set of the Paracount. More like drawn-out executions, more likely. ”I expect there will be plenty in the way of guards around the area? But should we make an attempt at saving the victims nevertheless? Although… were I the Paracount, I would have prepared to execute the prisoners if it even looked someone might success in releasing them, so I could blame the rebels for the unfortunate escalation that turned a corrective punishment into a bloodbath.”

”Rexus and I found something from the annals – mentions about a devil lord named Mephistophoeles and human immortality, something the Paracount might have been interested in. Although how exactly that ties to current events… perhaps life everlasting is paid in blood, and the debacle at the Opera House was an attempt at mass blood sacrifice? I don’t know if that’s what it is, or how this will help us, but if the Paracount is not interested in anything of this world but has some grand aspirations of immortality… that might explain why he seems not to care of any consequences for his actions.”

First day back at work post-surgery and my Tuesday nights are busy once again...first chance I've had to post.

Of course, Noravia is ok with Caleb's proposal. I don't think Caleb already did this with Noravia and vice versa, did he? Or did we just assume the spell happened after it was first suggested?

Eirik wrote:

Noravia shuddered at the implications. "We can't allow him to obtain immortality. We can't allow Kintargo to be subjected to his kind of brutality for eternity. That's too horrible to consider."

With morale at an all time low, Noravia knew they needed to present Kintargo with a few of their lost celebrities. "We need to raise Jilia and get Shensen back to health so that they can present themselves to Kintargo and raise morale once again. And now that the Ravens are restored, we can take the fight to Brassy once more. We've been sidetracked since the Ruby Masquerade and it's time that we refocused."

Action 2:

Noravia looked skeptically at Rexus. "Does your devil have a name? How did he find you to use as a conduit? It all seems very bizarre. I agree that we may want to find out what they have to say but this also reeks like a trap. I'm not sure that all of us should go. As to where, none of the safe houses or allied places of business should be used. Where's somewhere neutral where we can meet?"

Male Human Monk (unchained) 11

"Well, I have to admit we had to piece a lot of facts together and make some educated guesses - it's not like someone wrote his plans for immoratilty down conveniently in one place. But we are reasonably confident that he's at least been researching a devil lord rumored to possess such knowledge," Eirik added.

As they all discussed what Eirik and Rexus found Tillia felt a great deal of concern. How could Brassy accomplish something like this, become immortal, and not a devil or something on his own. Come to think of it even outsiders weren't truly immortals, only gods were. That brought a rather disturbed thought to mind as she said, "This isn't good, I don't see Brassy becoming an immortal if he had to be under the control of another. I also don't see him giving up his place here. It's like he's trying to turn this into his own place, something under his control. I wonder how he could accomplish that?"

Noravia hadn't really spent much time at the old Livery. It didn't seem to be an active safe house at the moment and so it should be easy to abandon it if necessary. "That would probably work. We don't have much invested there if things go sideways."

I don't think Noravia has ever been there considering it was Rowan that had been. Best part of that was Caleb convincing Vandomir that butter was a cure for lice...good times :)

Jillian frowned - she hadn't realized this was a lifetime commitment. Still, there was no reason to be concerned about Caleb knowing her whereabouts for life - assuming she lived more than a few more days or weeks. "Should we..." she hesitated, "should we all do this for each other? So any of us can find the others?" That was a bit weird for people she'd only just met, but if they were going to be fighting together, it might be a real boon.

Noravia grabbed Caleb's hand, "But what if you went missing before I could complete this with you? I'll wait until later if you can promise me that that won't happen. Otherwise, tell me what I need to do."

Caleb paused, and nodded. "Alright. Take the needle. You'll need to sterilise it." he closed his eyes "Alright Ves. Let's do this."

Caleb grabbed Noravia's arm. One of the wards on his skin began to writhe and wriggle. Slowly it moved down his arm, onto the back of his hand - something showing through the skin as it passed over the thin skin of the fingers - and onto Noravia's arm.

Caleb winced "In time I can help you all to do it, just as I helped Noravia. I'm not sure it's necessary though. Perhaps you should be able to find me. If you can find me, and I can find all of you, then we can track down anyone. The effects are permanent, and you might not want to be bound together for a long time."

Noravia hadn't really spent much time at the old Livery. It didn't seem to be an active safe house at the moment and so it should be easy to abandon it if necessary. "That would probably work. We don't have much invested there if things go sideways."

”Devils are creatures of law, even if their kind delight in trying to twist them to the breaking point,” Eirik murmured, recalling well the near-constant complaints about Abadarian-Asmodean cooperation he had heard from his brothers and sisters… and which he had himself butted heads with while trying to defend his clients in court against prosecutors following the Asmodean approach. ”Thus, they do respect contract, even if they try to wriggle their way free from them. When giving our response, you should at least try to turn it into an agreement… we get together to talk, neither side intending aggression. Defending our lives, safety and the secrets we choose not to share is acceptable. Once the meeting ends we go our separate ways unless something else is agreed by both parties. Neither by action or inaction by either party should these terms be allowed to be broken. Something to that effect,” Eirik said, amused that his studies of law might be applied to such an occasion.

”Although I don’t know just how highly a devil will value a purely verbal contract.”

Make that

Caleb winced "I dunno... I mean, we can, but it'll take a long time to do and it lasts until one of you dies. That could be a really long time. Maybe if you can all find me, and I can find everyone?"

Noravia watched the ward move from Caleb to herself completely transfixed. It was hard to believe that she actually had a part of Caleb under her skin, even if it was temporary. She took the needle and sterilized it like Caleb had. She looked at him questioningly, "So I push this through my skin and then into you? Here? Where the ward is?" She hesitated only slightly before she resolutely pushed the needle through her skin and then pricked Caleb. "Can you tell? Did it work?"

Male Human Monk (unchained) 11

Action 2

Quote:
She took a very long breath, enjoying the sweet air, “So, did you kill the paracount?”

”We thought we did, Lady Mayoress, but it appears the man is not so careless concerning his own safety as he thought,” Eirik said, offering a steaming cup of herbal tea to the woman once she was beginning to get her body under control. ”Take your time to get your bearings; we have a lot of things to talk about.”

Action 3

I wouldn’t offer the devil any information for free it doesn’t already have, so Eirik would have argued for some attempts at anonymity beforehand… if other insist on showing their cards from the start this part should be ignored and rewritten accordingly… no sense for Eirik alone to try to cling to shreds of secrecy.

Anyway, looking for Vandomir’s old post (Nov 4, 2015) for fancy names for the rebellion officers, and the last updated version of the rebellion stat sheet for our roles…

Quote:
The devil smiled, “Rexus, it seems you brought a lot of people to our secret meeting. Do they all need to take part in our negotiations? If so, please introduce yourselves and we shall get to the gist of the meeting.”

”The Nape of the Silver Ravens,” Eirik murmured, his face hidden by the silver raven half-mask. The monk stood with his arms folded over his chest, hands hidden in the sleeves of the opposing arm, eyes narrowed as he stared at the devil. ”If you are here to deal with the Silver Ravens, the name behind this mask matters not.”

Of course, the devil might just know his name, considering it had done enough research to pick Rexus from the masses of mortals in the city to contact. If so, it certainly showed more initiative and information gathering skill than any other of their enemies to date… not that they had done a stellar job at security in Eirik’s opinion.

Female Human Inquisitor(Infiltrator)/10

Action 1:

Noravia's stomach continued to churn as they discussed what to do about the public excruciations. She didn't really agree with Caleb about holding their own executions. It didn't make sense to her to react in such a manner, repaying fear with fear - but she said nothing verbally. Instead she suggested, "Maybe we should send one of the teams to either observe or possibly rescue? The Hellnight faction are good at rescuing people from difficult places, right?"

I also think that Noravia is technically their overseer. But I'd have to look back at the posts to be sure.

Action 2:

Noravia gave Elsbeth a few pats on the back. "Milani has worked mightily through you again. Thank you."

She waited as Eirik filled Jilia in on Thrune's status before asking, "Do you remember everything before and after you were turned? Was the one who turned you working with the paracount?"

Action 3:

I don't think Noravia was ever assigned a position so I'm not sure how to introduce her to the devil. Did she just take over Rowan's position?
