Awesome! I had originally written it more diplomatically but realized that it wasn't Rizolla's style. I thought the imagery of her draconic heritage was a particularly nice touch, especially given the roll I got.

Whelp, off to work.

Elsbeth dug for her heal potion as she moved. There was no way she was stepping out into the unknown while only on her last leg. She stopped in order to uncork it and drink. With the ground heaving like it was, she didn't trust herself not to spill it otherwise.

Taking her CMW potion. Will contemplate further healing but it all depends on how things go down next.

Ok, I read the turn. Do you need anything from me then for this turn? It looks like I am off stage and out of this. It may well be that Hawthorne's story picks up 12 days from now as he gets these halflings across the Andoran frontier, or hands them over to others of the Bellflower Network. I was looking for a PC that could be reasonably allied with the Silver Ravens, not one that would actually fit perfectly into this adventure, but BAM!! the right Prestige Class at the right time!

But wait, don't go yet! :)

Aren't you going to 'high five' everyone on a job well done? :)

Seriously, I would think Hawthorne would meet up with his fellow saboteurs before going his own way.

So no post necessary for this turn recap (unless you want to write something) but surely before you leave with your new found buddies.

And why Andoran. Now that the pass is closed, it makes more sense to go to Kintargo?

Turn 347 - Gambling with your Life

Read the OOC.

Questions, comments, and/or suggestions?

Game on!

Action 1:

That did not go at all how Elsbeth had expected. The only thing that had gone as planned was the destruction of the Keep and the closing of the gap. Everything else had been a surprise to the cleric such as Lucian's presence along with the devils, the janni, and the vigilant soldiers.

As Elsbeth moved through the courtyard, she looked for any surviving soldiers that could be helped before everything collapsed. She also made sure that Eirik was always before her. If anyone needed to get back to Kintargo to report to the rest of the Ravens, it was him.

Did any of the soldiers wake up and happen to escape? It would be nice to take them back to Kintargo with us if possible.

Action 2:

When they were finally able to rest, Elsbeth took stock of everyone's wounds and began to heal their hurts. In doing so, she began to erase the physical evidence of what they'd experienced at the Keep.

She'll blow through CLW wand charges and spontaneously cast heals if necessary.

Once she was finished, she took what water she had and asked Milani to turn it into something stronger. Once the water turned to ale, she divided it and passed it around. "I'm not sure if this deserves a toast but it definitely deserves a drink."

Nope. The only witnesses to this event are you five, the three halfling slaves, the janni, and Elulae.

”He was the first out, leading the freed prisoners,” Eirik said, coughing, trying to beat dust from his clothes – currently he was mostly grey from head to toes as the blast wave of the collapsing keep had caught them as they made their escape. ”And it was good that you triggered the mechanism as you did – if you hadn’t, the devil might have been more inclined to stay and fight us. On that note, well done convincing her to leave us alone,” he said, nodding his head to Rizolla.

Well done remembering that buried book. Eirik was supposed to bring along one Silver Raven to report the success of the mission. I assume we left it in the same spot and can use it now. Not that I expect it to matter except in purely RPG sense.

Errr, no. It wasn't on my radar for him to do that. He received directions during the fight to get the halflings out. He even gave a goodbye that implied he wasn't sure they'd ever meet again. He knew the mission of closing the pass was accomplished, and so task #2, and for him, his life's work, was getting the halflings out!

Sure, no problem. I don't know what underground railroad the Bellflowers might have, but typically we get the freedmen out of Cheliax. If Kintargo is the quickest way to do that, then cool.

Ok then. Hawthorne did not wait to determine what happened after half a mountain collapsed and to see if the people he fought side-by-side with made it out alive.

Rizolla was relieved when the erinyes fled from her. She knew the devil tried to make it seem she had left of her own accord but Rizolla knew the truth, the devil was afraid, even more important Rizolla had a new enemy, one she needed to be prepared for. As she and her friends got away successfully she saw Hawthorne and the freed slaves in the distance as they got away from there as quickly as possible.

When the now smaller group stopped to catch their breath Rizolla landed with them and said, "I'm sorry I left you like that, I shouldn't have but I didn't feel I could stay as badly as the place was shaking." Her apology seemed mostly serious and she certainly looked nervous at their response.

Action 2
As the horses were ready Rizolla rummaged through her pack to see what Silithax found and put inside before calling out to the tiny dragon, "Silithax! Where are you now? We need to talk." There was a slight threat in her voice but not enough to truly frighten the dragon away.

Action 1:

Even though it was sad that they couldn't have saved more of the soldiers, Elsbeth was glad that one had made it. As they sat around and had their drink she asked, "So what will you do now? And what do we call you?"

To Rizolla she shrugged. "Not everyone is prepared to be a martyr. Your actions were completely understandable. Besides, you leaving gave you the opportunity to talk to the erinyes which proved beneficial in that she left."

Action 1

Brother Hawthorne had lead the halflings miles away from the destruction wrought by the ancient mechanism. After several, he found a cleft in the rocks where they could hole up for the night and keep a lookout to see if his companions made it out, and on their way back towards Kintargo.

He had passed out a healthy amount of food and water to the members of his Crop, and they very quickly went to sleep as he hummed a common halfling lullaby. Shortly after they were all asleep, Hawthorne said a prayer to Desna, and felt her watchful eye come over him, and his fatigue washed away as he prepared to watch the way they had come for pursuit.

He casts keep watch

It was several hours after that, and shortly after dawn, when he saw the ragtag line of warriors approaching from the expected direction. He watched and waited, to make sure they were alone and unfollowed, before he finally came out of his cover to greet the others. "I am very glad to see that you all made it. I have room for you to rest yourselves inside the cave, but keep quiet, the halflings have not yet woken up, and I was hoping to let them sleep themselves out before we moved on."

With a slight smile at Elsbeth's words Rizolla nodded and said, "Yeah, it did work out alright I guess." She chuckled evily, "And did you see that devil's face? The fear she tried to hide? It was..." she took a deep breath causing her bosom to press firmly against her tattered clothing and nearly rip it the rest of the way, "intoxicating." There was a dark glint to her eye and she shook her head as she gathered herself.

Fabian wrote:
The cat-sized dragon appeared with a look like he had swallowed the canary. “I placed gold and gems in the bag. It’s all I found…”

Rizolla looked at the tiny Silithax and recognized that look, the dragon was hiding something, likely some bauble he didn't want to turn over. Usually that meant that it had considerable value. She gave Silithax a rather ugly glare and demanded, "Hand it over now or not only won't you get a bonus for your efforts but you won't get paid next time I need you either."

Action 2:

Elsbeth didn't relish the idea of trying to talk their way back into the city. "Is there another, less conspicuous way back into the Kintargo?" Turning to Brother Hawthorne she asked, "The Bellflower Network has ways of moving unnoticed in and out of the city. Maybe we could make use of one of their paths to get back in? It's not like we have enough cargo in the wagon to make our original cover story of merchants work, right?"

How much cargo are we bringing back. Apart from the chest that Hob brought out, was there anything else other than our original gear?

Action 1

Quote:
The dragon looked behind it to see if there was somewhere to go but quickly dismissed the idea. It knew that the dragon-blooded sorcerer would always had the upper hand. It gagged and coughed like a cat expelling a hairball. It spat out a shiny ring that was obviously well made; it was easy to see that it radiated magic even without holding it. The little dragon offered no resistance nor any explanation.

Rizolla was slightly disgusted as the ring was coughed up like a hairball and said a few words with a gesture that caused the gunk to slough off of the ring and her hand after she picked it up. She closed her hand on the item for a moment and looked at Silithax as she said, "Thank you for your diligence in making sure such a valuable item was kept safe for us." She sat and gestured for the dragon to come closer and slowly reached out to pick him up. She brought the creature onto her lap and began to scratch the base of the horns on his head as she said, "You've served me well Silithax and have earned the reward I promised you. What would you like for your bonus," she looked down at her closed hand and said quickly, "other than the ring or other items we have yet to divide up? If the request is reasonable, and the others agree, it's yours."

Action 2
As they all found Hawthorne and the cave Rizolla was relieved to have a place to truly rest and nodded at Hawthorne as she said, "Thank you, we'll be quiet." She held Silithax, now snoozing, in her arms as she sat down and took out the ring. "My assistant here found this in the keep, the only thing of real value he tracked down. He wanted to keep it but I convinced him otherwise." Her gaze was slightly sharp as she continued, "Don't ask where he hid it either. He turned it over and that was enough." With a few words and a gesture her eyes glowed blue as she examined the ring to try and identify it's properties.
spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Action 3
Crap, didn't realize that Hawthorne and the halflings were still with us. Would have changed my last post if I realized it as I can't make all of us and the halfling's invisible.

She looked at her companions with the realization that there were too many of them to manage and said, "On second thought, I don't think I can get all of us, I forgot we had the extra people." She nodded to the rescued halflings apologetically. Standing there she cocked her hips to one side and tapped a foot as she thought through what they could do. "Maybe we should send a messenger to the rest of the Ravens and get some assistance from inside. Maybe the man who set up the caravan could get us back into the city."

Action 1:

Elsbeth said bluntly, "If we wanted you dead, you would have never left the Keep. Sadly, we weren't able to save more of you. The Keep needed to fall but no one needed to die, unless their loyalties lie with Thrune to the death." She looked at Roshio with critical eyes, "Do you feel that Thrune is worth dying for?"

sense motive: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31

Action 4:

The cleric stared at the ground, thinking. "Considering we have no real cargo to be able to claim being merchants and there's no record of us leaving the city, I think Rizolla is right. We need to see if we can get back in the way we got out. Eirik, do you have a way of contacting the rest of the Ravens to let them know we're in need of their help?"

I think the Saboteurs know about the raven figurine and I'm assuming that we have one to use with Eirik with us.

I'm assuming that we lost those 4 crates of weapons in the destruction of the Keep, correct?

"That I can, although if we want to take a little hike, I know of a way to get inside unseen; the same way the Bellflower Network smuggles halfling refugees out of the city," Eirik said, happy that the days he had spent mapping the sewer network underneath the Long Road coffeehouse might finally be of use.

Do the guards *really* scrutinize everyone coming inside? That's gotta be a deathblow for trade of any kind... not that the Paracount really seems to mind. But discouraging trade aside, it should be horrendously labor intensive... just how long are the lines outside the gates? ;^)

I know I spoke about using the figuring earlier for a progress report, but I didn't take into account the thing's range/duration.

With the way the city is 'shutting down', I would think posting guards at the gate is only reasonable. I don't see long lines being formed outside. The checking process would be fairly quick because not too many people would want to risk the ire of Barzillai.

Now I would also think that a decent bluff/disguise (with a good post) would be enough to get people inside

Don't worry about range/duration of the figurine; it's only an RP element at this time. If you want it to use to signal the rest of the Raven leaders then just let me know and it shall be so.

I'd assume that most people who hawk their wares actually cannot afford to live inside the walls and commute to work daily... say farmers who come to sell fresh fruits and vegetables. I could see long lines of small carts and wheelbarrows going in and out at the start and end of the business day. Although a large group of freed halfling slaves would likely beg for questions to be asked, considering we haven't had a chance to provide changes of clothes for them and I can't see their captors were too concerned about their wellbeing in the keep.

Elsbeth first and foremost doused her hands with some alcohol before snagging one of the pastries. Even though it was cold, it was still delicious. She also gratefully took the coffee and sipped it, letting it warm her insides.

As Forvian waited expectantly, the cleric started by introducing Roshio.
"We wouldn't have found our way around the Keep without him. I'm sure you can find some use for him. As one soldier there kept trying to tell me, they are elite and well-trained."

After that order of business was taken care of, Elsbeth continued, "The main thing that the Silver Ravens need to know, other than the Gap being closed, is that there was a Thrune in charge at the Keep. I think his name was Lucian, maybe Lucius. Anyways, I don't know what relation he was to our Thrune or how important he was to the family but he's dead."

The Wasp Nest has a sewer entrance.

The Lucky Bones you would have gotten in from the river. You probably met a couple of aquatic elves there as well that are keeping guard. I forgot about them. :(

Action 1

Brother Hawthorne, Halfling that he was, certainly considered eating all of the pastries he could, but first he needed to find a place for his charges to sleep. "Master Forvian, could you accommodate these sojourners for a few nights, until we can get them out of here and off to greener pastures?"

Action 2

"We should not feel the need to whitewash the results of our mission," Hawthorne suggested. "We went with a mission to accomplish. We went with good intentions as to collateral damage. It is not our fault if events got in the way of that. The mission was paramount. There were devils, and a Thrune, these facts are important. The fate of the minor functionaries is immaterial."

Action 1
Rizolla returned the hug from Forvian and then sat to eat as they told their story. When they were wrapping it up she added, "I managed to make the erinyes we fought back down and leave without fighting. She seemed, well, pleased, we had killed the commander as it freed her from her contract. She figured out where we came from and who we worked for easily enough on her own and seemed to think we'd be seeing her again in the near future. It would be a good idea to figure out how to counter and erinyes and her sisters. Maybe some research on that tentacled devil would be a good idea too in case she brings another one to play next time."

Action 2
"I agree," Rizolla nodded as she spoke, "it couldn't be helped that we'd have to kill many of them, or even most of them. I do wish we could have spared a few more, at least one or two seemed like they might have been persuaded to join us if we could have saved them." She sighed then and continued, "I would like to get this meeting over with as soon as we can, I need to go see Xeno and let him know I'm alright."

Are you asking me? :)

His profile says level 7 and seeing that there are no 4th level spells, that is probably right.

He 'should' be level 8.

Busy times for me… I’ll try to get something outbetween things…

Action 2

”Thank you; if only so many lives hadn’t been lost before we managed to make this one a priority,” Eirik said, sighing as he sat down to take the weight off his feet; no matter how much more fit he was compared to how soft and fat he looked, walking most of the way back to Kintargo to give the halfling prisoners a chance to ride on the wagon had been enough to make him appreciate a good chair.

Eirik told the story with few words and little embellishments, trying to resist glancing at Caleb when he mentioned the end of Lucian Thrune, knowing the mystic’s hate for that particular house. He finished the tale with description of the winged demoness, a foe that might be unwilling to risk her material existence to bring them harm but someone who could perhaps be counted on to try and take her revenge at them from behind the scenes or by using proxies.
