Toilday, Abadius 2nd, 4716. 8:30 AM.

A bitter wind moans along the darkly shadowed streets of Tarheel Promenade. It carries flakes of snow from the leaden sky, that can only be seen here and there through gaps in the overhanging, densely packed buildings. The air is bitter and cold, causing puffs of steam when you breath.
Kaer-Maga lies unusually quiet this evening, the city is recovering from its New Years festivities. The cold keeps those who don't have urgent business inside as well. Still, Catgut Ally is busy enough. Porters pass by bearing loads, while a vendor offers grilled sausage from an alcove stall. A pile of rags in a corner shows signs of movement, no doubt it shelters beggars, huddled together for warmth.

The wind swings a sign over the sturdy, brass bound portal in front of you. The sign depicts a dancing troll playing a violin, and is captioned: The Troll and Fiddle. The place is an inn, recommended for its secure, inexpensive rooms, and decent food. The inn is situated on Kaer-Magas second level, convenient to travelers, but above the poorest bottom district. The place apparently does have a stable on the lower level, as a faded sign and arrow point down a narrow, winding staircase several feet from the door of the inn. Another staircase, this one going upwards, sits opposite the inn. The higher up one climbs in Kaer-Maga, the better, and more expensive the shops and lodgings become.

The door to the Troll and Fiddle swings open and a man, dressed in laborer's clothes hurries out. The interior of the inn is well lit, warm and unusually quite.

Enter, and let the game begin.

Troll and Fiddle: Interior:
A roaring fire fills the fireplace, where a simmering and savory kettle sits, back from the greatest heat. From what must be the kitchen come the sounds of someone using a cutting board and a whistled tune. From the door behind the bar comes the sound of angry cursing. Of staff there is none in sight.
There is but one customer, a dark haired, youngish fellow, handsome is a vaguely sinister way. He looks up from the thick tome he is reading and yells. "Master Bulthar! You have guests." Then takes a sip from his tea cup.

Shortly after, a portly, balding man in an apron appears from the door where had come the cursing, earlier. "Jestwin Bulthar, at your service!" Then he frowns. "I'm sorry, but we can't offer you any liquor today, my stock has been destroyed." The inn-keeper regards you with an appraising eye. "You look like you might be able to help though... I can pay, if you're interested."

Elijah, draws his gray tunic tighter, trying his best to shield himself from the bitter cold. He sees the sausage vendor, and figures maybe some hot food in his belly might help better combat the weather. He buy a sausage, and eats it...almost whole...hoping it will help him until he finds a place to sleep.

He than sees the pile of cloth move...he startles at first. Varisia forbid, something animal in nature views him as a meal of its own.

Oh, sh--..Calm down Elijah. Not everything is out to get you...hopefully. It is sad, the predicament of those huddles under. I could give them some coin...but if I give coin I might get jumped. Maybe. His thought trails off, as he looks back and sees the same sausage vendor, huddled up as well.

Elijah, heads back to the sausage vendor.

Hello sir, I would like 10 more sausage please, fully loaded as well

Elija, will leave the vendor 2 silver as payment and tip for the first and second round of sausages. He then takes the 10 sausages, and delivers them to the "moving pile of clothes".

Excuse me, I...I hope this can help you folks. It may not be much, but it is the best I could do at this time.

--------------

After delivering the semi-hot food, Elijah continues on and comes to an inn.

Well, it looks like it should work. Hell, anything to get the hell outta this frigid air. Maybe get warm

Elijah, heads on in, seeing the kettle on the far end, he smiles seeing it. Reminds me of home

He smiles at the young man, and then older man, who pops out from the kitchen area. He listens to teh man, and actually frowns when he hears they are out of liquor.

Well, that is clearly not acceptable sir. Liquor and wine make Golarion go round. What would I need to do to get the pay?

Zorin had just gotten done with his little job for the day, his wears selling a bit well that particular day. Many people had come to his stand looking for a cure to a curious hang over that many were nursing. He was happy to help supply his customers, a bit bored however at the bland remedies he could produce.

Now that he had closed up shop for the night it was time for him to relax. That day he had dressed in his usual light leather and slacks, as well as a long white coat he had recently bought for it's many pockets. Thankfully the cold air bothered him little, his fiendish constitution offering protection from the cool air. Upon seeing the vendor he reached into his pocket to fish out a silver coin for a pair of the sausages. It had been a long day and he could go for a meal. That was when he passed the moving little pile of clothes. His glasses angled down to the huddled bundle. Images of ways to improve the beggars chances of survival in the cold suddenly flashed through his mind as he stared a bit to long. He suddenly came out of his own head before he turned on his heal and left them to their meal.

Upon seeing the Inn he reaches into his pocket and fingers a few of the coins inside. His free hand reaches up to the large silver screw jutting through the flesh of his head and gives it a slow turn, the sound what could only be described as a "Tink" emanating from his skull after a rotation. "Everyone I served was recovering from a hang over. The least I can do is treat myself to my own product in the morning." He thinks to himself as he walks into the inviting inn.

His eyes take in the appearance of the room, walking in just in time to hear the news about the spirits. "My, now that is not the way for a Inn to start off the new year. Payment would be appreciated if the job is fair. May I smoke in here?" He asks suddenly, not bothering to introduce himself just yet. He takes a seat next to the man in the grey tunic, his miss matched eyes starting to run up and down the mans body. Already he was taking in his physical features. It was a bad habit of his to exam people he just met. Some even took it the wrong way which had lead to many a awkward situation before.

male Tengu Slayer 1st

Ebonfeather had spoke to a man earlier about a potential opportunity in tracking down a person of interest. He did not pursue the mission for to do so would have spoken death for the fledgling bounty hunter. Granted he wanted to get established and really master his swordcraft and his hunting skills but at his current abilities he knew this was not the case for him. The man's’ connections would speak volumes when it came to finding him, thugs and worse may be lying in wait. All he knew was that right now he could use a drink.

-------------

Ebonfeather with his hood and scarves wrapped about neck fought the wicked cold. It was somewhat effective. the Tengu swordsman did not like the fact he had to slip his hands in to pockets just to make sure they kept warm. it was never good to have to hide your hands as to do so could speak death. On the other side of the same thought was the fact in doing the opposite could cause one to lose the very fingers needed to grip the blade! So he went with the first one for if all else failed his beak would protect him from the blunt of it all.

With his steps a bit more longer the bird man made it quickly from his simple plain hidey hole to the hearth warmed rafters of the Troll and Fiddle. Once inside the feathered fellow shook free the chill and cocked his head completely to the side when he walked in on the very utterance of the man's’ liquor stock being destroyed. Seemed to Ebonfeather that such a thing could bring in something more than a merger purse of silvers. Not waiting for any others to pipe up the bounty hunter looked to the man as he righted his head and spoke in the eerie groaning croak.

” I’d be glad to see what such an endeavor entails” he finally said.

Jared Stark raised an eyebrow at the innkeep's offer. "Not my usual line of work, but I am listening."

He looked around to the others in the present company, taking in their stock. A capable-looking bunch to be sure. The fellow with the screw through his skull gave him pause, but if no one else was going to mention it, Jared wasn't either.

Jared himself looked a little out of place among them. He was not visibly armed or armored. He wore clothes that were just a bit too fine for a mid-tier inn (though from the speckled stains on the legs and wrists and the general wear on on his clothes, it was clear his finery was older and not of the latest fashions).

He leaned on a sturdy cane who'd handle was a bird-like doctor's mask. Its visage was a pale mirror of the Tengu at his left.

"How was your entire liquor stock destroyed?"

"Of course." Jestwin Bulthar tells Zorin. He seems to accept the tiefling's unusual appearance without reservation.

"I can't pay much. Just five gold for each of you." With a pained expression, the middle aged innkeeper adds: "And a week of room and board for you all. My rooms are my livelihood, I need paying guests, but I can spare a week."
From under his apron the innkeeper produces a key. "I also offer this. It's a key to the Undercity. May not seem like much, but the Undercity has treasure to be found."
Master Bulthar's face seems both proud and sad.
"It's where I got the money to start this inn. Also where I lost my best friend."
The innkeeper scrutinizes each of you in turn, his look now shrewd.
"A gate to the Undercity may not seem like much to you. Let me tell you. The Duskwardens have most of the ways into Undercity under their control. They keep folks out for the sake of safety. There are other ways in, but they are either controlled, or watched. People wait for adventurers to crawl out, bloody and weak, then kill them and take their stuff."
"Here, you can come and go unnoticed."
Bulthar pauses a moment to let his proposal sink in, then answers Jared.
"A lot of it went to the New Years festivities, to my profit. I went to check my stock this morning, and found the rest of it wrecked. Smashed, broken, and spilled on the floor."
"My storage cellar has a door to the Undercity. It looks like rats chewed a hole through it."
The man frowns. "Rats don't usually act like that. Something made them do it. Rats go for food, not alcohol." Now Bulthar's face has a look of disgust. "They left plenty of droppings though. Anyway. I've got a shipment of liquor on the way. And a carpenter to fix my door. What I would like you to do is: Deal with those rats and whatever is driving them. It would be a huge favor for me, I'll repay you any way I can. I hear a lot of things, so if you want to know what's going on in this burg I can help with that."
The innkeeper stops, probably trying to think of what else he can add to sweeten the deal.

Zorin fished out small square container from his jacket pocket and pulled out a slightly crumpled cigarette from it. From his other pocket he pulled out a tinder twig out from his pocket and struck it. After placing it into his mouth he took a heavy drag from it and blew it into the warm air of the room. His eyes quickly focused in on the key after the Inn owner pulled it out form his pocket.
"Their are many rumors about how dangerous the Undercity are very widespread through out the city. The many creatures that live down their are kept trapped for a reason. I've always wanted to see what has developed down their. At this point he finishes his cigarette before snuffing it out with his thumb and setting it on the counter. "You have my help. I will be happy to take up your offer of a free room for the week as well. If now is a good time I can help to figure out what has been driving the rats upwards here to the Inn as well. My only last request is that if I do manage to take something back in relative condition you will not make any large deal about bodies. I would like to do some research if I find anything that catches my fancy." With that he stood up and reached into his pocket, pulling out his morning star and giving it a few practice swings before he looked to the rest of the people in the group. His eyes lingered slightly longer on the large tengu who had came in soon after him."I would be happy for some company of course. Never know what might jump out from the dark after all."

Human Ranger (Tactician) 2 | HP: | AC FF TCH | F/R/W: | Init +

Elijah's eyes go wide as he sees the man with a screw in his head...literally. After staring for a moment, he looks to the innkeeper.

He ponders the deal presented, a free room and board for a week sounds amazing. He then wonders what type of liquor and ales he has coming.

Hmm, he said he has another supply coming in soon. I wonder if any of it is or was as good as the stuff I had in Kintargo? Spiced ale perhaps?

His thought trails from various ales, and wines, and stronger liquors he had in the past. He looks to the innkeep.

I have one small request to make. I am an up and coming alcoholic vendor and current connoisseur. I would love the opportunity to taste the various liquors and other alcoholic goods you will be receiving. Part, due to my curiosity. Also part in if there was a way to improve your quality, perhaps more patron will come to your inn.

Jared knew an opportunity when he saw one. The undercity was a potential tresure trove of usefulness for the ideas he'd been coming up with lately.

He nodded to the innkeeper. "Happy to help. Lets see this door in your store room."

"There is another exit. Below, down by the stables. You could use it for anything that might upset my customers, or the animals." This is an oblique answer to Zorin's question about research subjects.
Bulthar fetches a lamp from behind the bar and lights it with a twig from the fireplace.
"Come, I'll show you the cellar. I just have the usual sorts of drink. Beer from Humphrey's. That's local. Whiskey is brought in from Korvosa, or Magnamar. Whichever I can get it cheapest from. I keep a supply of Kumis on hand. The wife likes it, as well as any Shoanti that wander in. I do what I can for wine. Sometimes, I can get some pretty fine vintages, sometimes not so good. There's no local vineyard, but Kaer-Maga sees trade from all around the world. I suppose that once my stock is restored, you could have a tasting."

The innkeeper leads the way back through the door he had originally entered from, and down a long flight of stairs, a landing, and another shorter flight of stairs. An open door leads to the store-room, a 15' by 25' space, where a boy in his early teens is cleaning up a mess of broken bottles, with a broom, dustpan and bucket.

Directly across from the door you enter by is another sturdy, brass-bound, wooden door. "Goes to the stables." Bulthar explains. To the left, centered on the wall is a similar door. This one has a ragged hole at its base. The hole is a foot and a half high and about a foot wide and was clearly gnawed through.
"That's the one that leads below." Bulthar gestures toward the damaged door. "Long passageway to the right opens out to streetside. Door on the the left goes on down..."

Zorin simply smiles as at the answer he got. Once the group was lead down the stairs Zorin quickly begins to look at the ragged hole in the door. As he examines the various things in the room he reaches up, lazily cracking the screw jutting through his head lazily. Every rotation caused a loud tink, almost like a spring was resetting itself inside his head.

He was happy to take the lead in exploration if the others would be comfortable with it.

Ebonfeather stayed quite through the whole exchange. He wasn't above the work presented just was never much of a talker. So he followed listening and taking in the area as they went. He had probably passed by this before and never really noticed anything.

Elijah, nods at the possibility to taste any ales or liquors upon the innkeep getting restocked.

Elijah, looks as he is lead from area to area...then he wonders what is down the hole at the last door he is presented to.

My name is Elijah Moore, cleric of Cayden Caliean. If we are not in major hurry, I would like to say a prayer, it will take but a minute.

If given the appropriate time, Elijah will say a prayer to Cayden, He will ask for swift movement throughout the Undercity. May the time below be quick and swift, to find the source, and then return topside.

"Jared Stark. Doctor by trade." the man with the cane said simply, nodding his thanks to Elijah's prayer.

male Tengu Slayer 1st

" A Doctor and a Holy man interesting"Ebonfeather said not sure of either man. Both paths proved beneficial in doing various things. He however was more for the seedier things in the world around them.

" My profession allows me to speak with a sword in a back alley. All in the name of retrieving what I had been paid to retrieve." he said not much more ponding the various scene with the eye of a hawk. Something wanted them to come this way.

Zorin simply shrugged as he learned of everyone's profession. "I suppose I am a doctor as well. I have carried out my fair share of surgeries after all. For now though I simply craft small alchemical blessings for people. His eyes drift down to his legs as he tests them out a little, feeling a bit lighter now. "Very interesting. I would love to see if your prayers actually effected the muscles of my legs at all. He mumbles to himself.

Zorin finds nothing of real interest in the bucket. Just trash. The scat is indeed rat droppings.

The lad steps back eyeing the Tiefling. It's not everyday that a man with a screw in his head visits the inn. The young fellow doesn't seem too amazed though. In a city where trolls read the future in their own entrails, the citizens become jaded at a young age.

"My son, Ganef." The innkeeper introduces the teen. Then Jestwin Bulthar offers the key again. "Well here's the key, if you gentlemen are up for the job."

Ebonfeather and Zorin see nothing unusual about the room. It's just a storage space that has been trashed, then partially cleaned up.

Both the innkeeper and his son bow their heads in respect when Elijah prays.

Ebonfeather rises and nods his hand resting on his sword hilt ready to strike. He looked a bit nervous as he stood there.

"I am ready" he says heading to the door and inspecting it.

Elijah opens the damaged door, revealing an unlit corridor. To his left is a closed door. (The one that goes to Undercity.) On his right, the corridor runs 40 feet to another door. (The secret door that opens to the street on the Bottoms level. It's not hidden from this side.)

You can search the room for treasure.

A 10' wide passage at the foot of the stairs runs south. Similar passages run to the east and west.
Under the staircase to the north is a brass bound wooden door. It is closed.

You can explore the any of the passageways, or open the door. Or you can start the down-time portion of the game. It's time to vote. Please do your voting in the discussion thread. Unless you want to discuss it IC, of course.

Zorin will brush himself off a bit after that, rubbing at a few bruises that he had from the teeth of the rats. "Well that was annoying. Little pests were surprisingly happy to try and rip into me." He will walk over to the little blue creature to see if it is still alive and attempt to stabilize it.
Heal: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18
After the quick attempt he would walk over to take a peak down each hall way before stopping at the door. He gives it a little knock with the back of his hand. "Well I would be interested in continuing forward with our little investigation. I do also have a nice little test subject as well to go through now. I would not want to waste that by giving him the chance to wake up before I can get to work. I vote we head through this door though. Everyone knows the best gifts are the ones hidden by something." He says with a smile.

Elijah, will look at the rats, than at the little blue creature.

Is that the cause of the rats going crazy? Hmm, I wonder if he is the only creature, or are there more?

Elijah will look around, hoping there are no more like the blue thing on the way. Satisfied that there is nothing else incoming, he begins to look around. He sees the stone statue, and is curious about its nature.

per: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

per stone statue for any useful quirks/info: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

He casts detect magic on the statue in case its magical, and than keeps the aura up and goes around the room and focuses on the various crates and barrels in the storage unit.

Ebonfeather began looking about the room seeking out what ever else was down here.

Jared had scarecly moved during the attack. He'd raised a hand toward the ugly man, but he had been killed before Jared had done a thing. The rats he was ready to strike with hsi cane, but his companions were simply quicker.

He chuckled at the efficiency of the fight. It was nice to be working with competent comrades.

The statue is decorative, a winged lady holding a musical horn. It looks to be quite heavy. Nothing unusual about the rats.

Ebonfeather finds some shiny stones that look valuable. 3 are a lustrous, deep black, 4 are a pale blue in color.

Zorin is able to stabilize the creature. The tiefling also notices that the ugly little bugger is wearing a necklace of silver colored metal that looks valuable. The chain is doubled around the tiny creature's neck, the jewelry was designed for a larger person.

I consider jewelry and gems to be trade goods, they can be sold at full value. After they are correctly appraised of course.

It will take a DC 10 strength check to open the door. The hinges are oxidized a little and the wood is swollen from the humid atmosphere.

Zorin will take the necklace off him and slip it into his lab coat pocket. "I found some treasure on the little blue thing. We can divide up the loot when we head back up stairs. For now we will just have to remember to get a party bag. By the way does anyone have any rope? I could use something to tie this thing up." While every one else investigates their own things Zorin will brace his shoulder on the door and give it a solid push.
strength: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Zorin will continue to try as well until the door gives.

"These seem to be valuable but I am not skilled in the art of Appraisal!"Ebonfeather said before he looked over at the door.

With a bit of strength he tries to get the door open.

strength: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

Initiative:
Skeleton(red): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Skeleton(yellow): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Skeleton(blue): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Skeleton(green): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Ebonfeather: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Elijah: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Jared: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Zorin: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

With a heave Ebonfeather pulls the door open, revealing another storeroom. Human skeletons line the back wall of the room. The one to the far left clatters quickly forward, clawing at Ebonfeather.

Claw 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Claw 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

The tengu easily evades the attack.

Ebonfeather is up. Fighting through the door provides partial cover. +2 AC, +1 Ref.

Not one to waste the opportunity the Ebon bodied bird striked out with his cestus covered fist in hopes to break the jaw.
