Talon Shadowblade |
As Talon scouted ahead, he barely informed the party his findings when he is nearly trampled by the onslaught of the curious.
as the other go about their searching Talon tries instead to keep an eye out for ambush or more canoes approaching.

Milhar Korashi |
Watching the way that the snake leads Milhar comes to a decision. He pulls a sleek iron wand and steps up to tap Bouzz, covering him in a metallic sheen that is quickly absorbed by the toughened scales.
"Can anyone use a canoe well?"
GM Tribute |
The statue seems to resemble no deity anyone is familiar with. The tracks seem to be many, but weeks and maybe months old. The path is well worn, so it is not possible to determine much more.
Careful searching in the alcove reveals no traps or hidden doors. The canoes each have two paddles in them. Made out of a wood that is light and fibrous, the canoes seem somewhat light and should hold two each easily. They may be lacking in durability of a heavier wood.
Sandrion Delcour |
Sandrion nods in agreement, "A wise decision here, Bikmalu. It maters not who pairs with me, yet I would...prefer a body with legs!" He smiles and gives a wink to the female savage. "I surely hope your worthy companion can swim?"
William Allenin |
Milhar, I will take the back of a canoe if you want to keep a hand on your bow at the front.
William looks over one of the canoes looking for a paddle and checking for leaks.
William Allenin |
Oops I missed that Milhar was already with Bikmalu. I was trying to make sure a raged person was at the front of each canoe.
No need to break up an existing pair. I have had some experience crossing rivers in my armor before. Its weight bothers me little. Vardlon, Care to join me?
i am suddenly glad I used a skill point on swim :)
Vardlon |
Vardlon is taking notes and making some sketches over by the carvings and statue.
Hm? What? Oh, yes; I can be right there ... William, was it?
Vardlon stows his pen, ink, and paper, and heads over to the canoes. He hopes to compare his notes to others' findings and see what he can figure out about the people who lived here, but that's for later.
Skirros the Savage |
Skirros looks at the canoes and does not seem too enthusiastic. "I am not a great swimmer, especially with this heavy armor." She points down the darkened tunnel. "There are many tracks heading this way, even if they old. Why not follow them?"
Yes, I know, I have to be contrary, but my Swim check is -2 :)
Sandrion Delcour |
Skirros, the black areas are the walls of the cavern, so it looks like the only way to proceed is by canoe. BTW Bouzz does have a Swim speed :)
Sandrion gives the half-elven savage woman a reassuring smile. "Now I am sure these canoes can hold our weight quite easily. And your legless friend should be able to swim quite easily." He walks over to one of the canoes and takes one of the oars out. "Do you want to paddle, or should I?"
Skirros the Savage |
The tatooed half-elf gives the Oerdian a strange look before ordering her snake into the water. "In a canoe, generally both people paddle, human, especially when you have two paddles," she says, pointing at the paddles lying next to each other in the craft.
"But since you seem so enthusiastic, I will give you the stern. Just don't run us aground or dash us against any rocks."
With little more fanfare, Skirros jumps into the front of the nearest canoe, taking off her backpack, and arranging it behind her. She carefully lays her bow next to her. Ahead, Bouzz ducks under the water to see if there are any tasty subterranean treats awaiting her.
Bouzz Perception check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Bouzz Hunting (Survival) check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Milhar Korashi |
"I can do the same trick for you Skirros, if you want to remove that armour," Milhar points out as he takes the lead position with Bikmalu.
"Bikmalu, would you tell me anything you know of the City as we paddle. It would help to pass the time and we may learn something. For instance why can we not return. What is the other tribes issue with that?"
Sandrion Delcour |
"Of course! I only meant one of us should watch for danger whilst the other one rows." Sandrion replies to her. "Talon looks like he is with out a partner so I would suggest he go last, once we have made sure the water is clear."He whistles softly and soon his red-tailed hawk flies back to his shoulder. "Stay," he orders the bird to stay put on his shoulder for the journey.
Skirros the Savage |
"I can do the same trick for you Skirros, if you want to remove that armour," Milhar points out as he takes the lead position with Bikmalu."
Skirros looks a little uncomfortable at removing her hides, but gazing down into the water she changes her mind. "Anything is better than being drowned by my own armor. Thank you, Korashi, that is most generous." she states, unfastening the ties and buckles that keep her leather breastplate secured.
Skirros the Savage |
Bouzz can swim and has a swim speed. He'll stay parallel with my canoe.

The canoes begin to move out.

The water begins to bubble as Bouzz thrashes madly in the water, red blood is making the dark water even darker. A large reptilian tail slaps the water and the canoes move vigorously in the water. Large crocodiles are looking to feed on a big snake, but they cannot seem to hold the wily reptile in their grasp. The crocs seem content to stay below the surface for now, but their sheer size and thousand pounds of bulk make you sure they are filling this fairly large pool. Sandrion and Skirros feel multiple bumps as crocodile bump on the bottom of their canoe, but they seem to be after the large snake.
Bleeding badly, Bouzz manages to stay conscious as most of the crocodiles lock on him, one biting him badly near the eyes.
From the commotion, you think the crocodiles are located mostly where the rectangles on the map are.

Bikmalu looks into the water, hoping to see if there are any plants he might be able to wrap around the crocodiles.
I can't act till after them anyway, but checking to see if there might be vegetation to use for an entangle. I think it will be too late for wild empathy.
ps sorry for missing you Talon
William Allenin |
If the map is correct William is still at the beach having never pushed off. If that is the case he will hop out and run around the shore drawing his weapons. I have placed him on the map where I think he can reach with a single move (assuming a move action to get out of the canoe)
Skirros the Savage |
"Bouzz, back!" Skirros yells as she commands her snake to withdraw. Tightly gripping her paddle, she tries to move the canoe back toward the beach.
Full-round action to move the canoe back to the shore. Once the water is waist-deep, she will jump out, grab her bow and try to attack the crocodiles.; Bouzz is using withdrawal action
GM Tribute |
Bouzz attempts to withdraw, and his retreat toward the statues leaves only on crocodile able to grasp at him as he makes it closer to short without reprisal, but lucky bite from the only croc that can reach for him pulls him under.
The canoe heads toward shore and two crocs snap it like light kindling spilling Sandrion and Bikmalu into the water. Sandrion stabs on with his swortsword and they retaliate in kind.
Threee crocs snap at Bouzz, but two decide to go after the ranger.

The ranger is grabbed by two crocs that fight over him trying to grab him.
Two crocodiles stay on the surface fighting for the ranger in their mouths. The other three went under with the giant snake.
Sandrion takes 16 damage and is grappled by two crocs--Sandrion doesn't need a swim check. Skirros is in the churning water and needs a DC10 swim check to stay afloat and a DC 15 to move in water.

See and here you were upset with me for not giving you one ;-)
Thrown from the canoe, Biklamu treads water and tries to grab for the shore.
Swim 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14
GM Tribute, still curious about any plants. Also is Bikmalu in that square that reads Canoe? If so, can he get to shore since he is next to a shore square?
Milhar Korashi |
Milhar points at the unfortunate Sandrion grappled twice and calls on a minor spell to help. The water around him starts to oil as he is covered in grease.
Then the Celene acolyte runs back towards William and leaps with a somersault over his head towards the shore.
Standard action to cast grease spell on Sandrion, Move action to use acrobatics (hopefully back to terra firma) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25, free action with +1 bab to unlimber bow.
As he completes the twist and lands, the elf gracefully frees his bow into one hand. "Get to land. If you can."
Distant Scholar |
Vardlon backs up out of the canoe and on to the shore, pulls out his two-handed elven curve blade, and hurls it at the nearest crocodile. The sword dances gracefully back to his hand.
Move action out of the canoe, Free action with move to ready sword; Standard action hand of the apprentice, targeting Croc1, presumably.
Hand of the Apprentice: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 181d10 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
The above assumes Point-Blank Shot works with Hand of the Apprentice, which I think it should.
GM Tribute |
Work was hectic this week.
Anyone in canoes 3 and 4 can disembark to shore with a move action.
The druids see no vegetation in this underground pond and feel that the likelihood of any is slim.
With the water churning, Milhar casts his grease spell despite the movement with focus and concentration and the ranger slips out of the grasp of the crocodiles. Talon's bow fails to hit a crocodile and Vardlon's attack fails to penetrate the thick hide of the croc he attacked.
'canoes move vigorously in the water' -

The crocodiles close and attempt to grab him again. One bites deeply again, but fails to hold him.

Vardlon |
I kind of want to see what happens with the other moves before I send in Vardlon's; in particular, I'm not sure who can see which crocodiles (2 on the surface that everyone can see (and attack?); 3 below that we cannot see?).
Vardlon will likely try Hand of the Apprentice again on a visible crocodile, and hope for better results.
Also, I put Vardlon on the map where I think he is.
GM Tribute |
William and Talon strike a crocodile and leave it bleeding badly. Skirros avoids the crocodile and maneuvres to get and arrow off and misses, not able to penetrate the crocodiles tough hide.
