Started. Recruiting closed. Apprentice-level game (Super Genius Games rule pre lvl 1. Pathfinder @ lvl 1 & beyond). Characters begin pre level 1, gain levels, and classes. Game run on the boards.
Appraise isn't used much. I wouldn't bother with it.
Any loot we want to sell needs us to use Appraise to determine what it is worth. Gems, jewelry, artwork, etc.
Most adventures have some of that, although if we end up only fighting Aberrations or somesuch then it might not be needed.

umd ? Why ? Whe have three full casters.
Probably not needed but if he wants it, why not? It is fun to use magic items. But it does require a pretty high level PC to hit those annoyingly high UMD DCs.

Spellcraft=I can take care of it, but I doubt we'll ever need it.
Any time we find a magic item we need Spellcraft to identify it. Some of those DCs get pretty high, too.
I certainly can. But most parties have more than one offensive caster. Would you please elaborate on your plan?

With our ability modifiers we can cover a lot of the skills that are not "trained only". So int 10 or even 9, and dex as high as possible.
I politely disagree. The higher a Knowledge skill the more we learn about our enemies at the start of combat (without even using an action!). Usually the heroes like to exceed the minimal DC by 10 at least, for learning the two facts of (a) resistances and (b) lowest saving throw. Then we know which weapons and spells to use.
spellcraft doesn't help you use magic devices. you can fully comprehend what it does, but still have it blow up in your face
I think what Nelith was trying to say was that most magic items are either...
(a) Things everyone can use anyway, like a Cloak of Resistance
(b) Things that cast Cleric or Wizard spells, like a Wand of Fireball, that we can use anyway with both a Cleric and a Sorcerer in the party
(c) Things that no one can use at all because they require a class feature, such as items that enhance Cavalier Banner or Oracle Revalation.
There is indeed a category (d) of items for which we would need Use Magic Device. An example would be any wand with a Ranger-only or Paladin-only spell. But those are very rare. It's probably not worth investing skill ranks just in case we find one.
My point was that perhaps Silx himself wants to blast things with that Wand of Fireball. If so, then he should pump up Use Magic Device. But there's not much point to doing so until mid-level.
Yes i won't be picking up UMD until later levels, and generally it's so I can use items. Rogue's can be infinitely more useful with a few extra tricks up their sleeves. However, i do plan on maxing it because of the high DC's and bad results for failed checks
Also, jus to let everyone know, my low amount of posts in-game is because Silx is just keeping very quiet; he's afraid of prejudice from the varient races that have multiple reasons to hate him. I tend to post fairly often once things get rolling
And yes, knowledges are an INCREDIBLE useful skill. speaking of, are there any you wish me to pick up?

Probably not. At this point I'll have a 14 INT and the Bard's bonus to Knowledge checks. No reason to spread out knowledges away from that bonus.
If you could would handle Appraise, Linguistics, and Survival then I can handle seven Knowledge skills and use my eighth skill rank per level for fun role-play flavor stuff, to pick up appropriate Profession and Performance skills. With Aak doing Intimidate and Nelith doing Spellcraft then I think that covers all the basics.
Changing the topic, the tabs at the top keep telling me there are "new" messages in the Gameplay or Discussion areas even when I have seen them all. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Sorry guys, I'll have to drop out. I can't really seem to get into this, partly because I can't see where the story is going. Apologies for the inconvenience and the best of luck to you.
Hmm. Looks like we may need to pause. Do any of you have interest in turning your character into a cleric? I'd prefer to move forward as soon as we can. This sort of thing does not lend well to the possible delays of finding another player. I'm happy to try recruiting. I could go the NPC route too. Let me know what you all think.
I was looking forward to playing an illusionist, but am willing to switch.
We do have the role of Arcane Caster covered by Nimt, after all.
If I switch we would all get the bonus of seeing Shayne die horribly during our first combat. I've grown fond of the creepy little Bard and hope you all have too. Yet it's always good for a story to have what appeared to be a long-term character meet a dreadful end.
However, the weekend is approaching and I have very little free time on the weekends. If someone would be willing to make a Cleric for me I would be grateful. (Hopefully something similar to Shayne in being a capable PC while emphasizing personality and eccentricity over game-mechanic optimization.)
Three ideas, to start the discussion of what type of Cleric everyone wants anyway (whether I or someone else makes the character)...
(a) My current PC in my "meets at my house" Pathfinder campaign is a Cleric--and a giant rat that rides a dinosaur. I'm happy to play another Evangelist Cleric if others want to enjoy Inspire Courage. The "plain old" bonus to hit can translate into a greater willingness to try combat maneuvers and other feats of daring-do.
(b) Alternately, the Cloistered Cleric can allow us to retain my party role of Walking Library.
(c) Finally, ever since Utimate Magic was published I have thought about an Undead Lord who was not evil and was troubled by why Undead kept wanting to be his or her "animal companion".
Male Half-Orc Crusader Cleric 1 (HP:9/9; Init +3; AC:19; TCH:13; FF:16; Perc +2, Sense +6)
I have been toying with the idea of TWF/Shield Bash "tank" cleric? If that's cool with everyone I can whip him up, unless you want me to keep my Half-Orc fighterish guy?
The bard has been fun and I'm a huge fan of half-orcs so this is a tough call. How about we mull it over for the weekend. Until then I was thinking I'd post a bit more back story for you all in case you're feeling the need for more hooks / story.
I can do a cleric, I might be the least attached to their character.
@Aak: there's no reason a half-orc couldn't be a cleric. Check out the Crusader archetype anyway.
If Fiddle is a "new" player, I have no compunction against letting him in as the cleric. I do expect him to play the CN alignment maturely.
It appears that I am flexible, but Aak and Nimt are also flexible and less attached to their characters. So for now I'll retract my offer to change PCs. Please let me know if it helps the group to change Shayne and I will resume thinking about alternatives.
I'll leave it up to you guys to decide if we need color spray or a cleric more in this fight. If the vote is cleric, I can switch immediately.
(I liked the concept of Tom's character, and would play a copy of it, except that he would be following the LG dwarven god, and have the crusader archetype.)
Would you mind playing both the cleric and Nelith for the opening conflict? You can PM on your thoughts about Nelith's transition (NPC, heroic death, or something else :-).
Awesome. Toss me a PM when you have a chance and we can discuss how you'd like the characters to sort out. Feel free to work up the new character. I'll get you the deity info. later tomorrow.
Hey guys, I'm heading out of town to a place that doesn't have internet so I'll be gone for a few days. Feel free to DMPC me if you need to, much cheers and have fun gaming!
I didn't even think to check. I was all excited about the encounter.
Also, we have a cleric lined up so Aak can go back to his previous encarnation. We'll have Than hold the post until morning if you all make it through the night ;)
