Jakwin Howell |
Jak seems to have been preoccupied with the gravity of seeing this monument to people who died pursuing their own legend. He seems oddly contemplative about the whole thing, but he keeps an eye on the team's attempts at the one shrine. Not sure how else to help, he simply stands back and watches, his massive blade rested across his shoulder.
Kranzer Kraken-Mouth |
"Well look'a that. Don't care what anybody says about you, Gardol, you're smart for a human!"
Kranzer draws his swords, preparing for any trouble.

Tishka Beger |
Squinting her eyes, the little gnome concentrates for a moment. Whipping her hands about, a glowing globe of light pops into existence. "Yippee!" she squeals as another couple globes spawn next to the first.
The globes of light float about just a few feet in front of her.
"I think I've got the lighting handled."
Pulling her weapon free, she steels herself for battle.

Kranzer begins sneaking into the dark tunnel, then stops to turn an eye on Gardol and Tishka when they light up the area. But it turns out for the best, because soon after entering the Pathfinders are ambushed by some sort of bulbous quadruped that reeks like a cesspool--a creature that Kranzer would not have wanted to meet by himself.
Tishka is up, surprise action only.
Tishka Beger |
Her expression visibly softening, Tishka steps forward. "Oooo look at that little puppy!"
But a few feet away from the beast, she smiles. "Who's a good boy now? Eh? Is it you?"

Kranzer scratches the "puppy" with his shortsword, but Gardol can't quite find a clear shot with Tishka in the way. The little gnome manages to bash and poke her attacker though, obviously enraged and being attacked. Huratas tries a different approach, calling on the power of his god to curse the beast.
Unfortunately, the hole that Tishka just punched into the creature's hide closes up, all healed. Thankfully, its fangs miss Tishka again.
Everybody is up.

@Jakwin: Please draw arrows to show your movement, particularly since you are moving through a threatened area.
@Gardol: You would be able to tell that there's no better angles on the other side, especially after Jakwin moves. Feel free to retcon your action if desired.
@Huratas & Kranzer: Please remember than I resolve posts in initiative order. When you're going to delay like that, I prefer to see some in character mention, i.e. Huratas saying "Hold up a moment, I have some magic that'll help."

Jakwin manages to avoid a legful of fangs thanks to Huratas' curse, but the bardarian's own swing also misses. Tishka aims a little better though, and smashes several bones beneath the thick hide. Huratas then blesses Kranzer, but it doesn't help the rogue manage more than a single scratch.
The trollhound's wounds continue to heal, though not as quickly as the Pathfinders deliver the injuries. And once again, it tries and fails to bite the shifty little gnome.
Everybody is up.
Huratas Narby |
Not sure what you mean. Huratas goes before Kranzer right? I think you forgot to unbold Kranzer's name after round 1. Because you mention he scratched the puppy with his greatsword but left his name bolded from the previous round.

GM Granta |
@Huratas: Kranzer acted in the surprise round, then you in round 1, and then the trollhound. At that point Kranzer was taking his round 1 action and you a round 2 action, so he would have to delay to act after you. Or else wait to use the buff until his normal round 2 initiative, but that's not what he did.
Jakwin's gigantic swing cuts the thing completely in half, but something is clearly wrong. You can see one half slowly healing, and even regrowing new body parts. The rest of the party hacks at the corpse a bit more, but the creature's return still seems inevitable, if delayed a bit longer.
Huratas Narby |
Ah I see what happened. I checked your first post for this combat where Tishka's name is bolded and you said she was up. I missed that Kranzer went in the surprise round but after the beast.
"Try fire or acid, Those are the usual answers."
GM Granta |
Huratas' advice seems to have been correct. The flesh sizzles under Gardol's acid for a few seconds, then doesn't start healing again. A quick search of the tunnels doesn't turn up anything, except for a small office carved into the rear of the cavern.
Several desks are arranged along the northern and eastern edges of this small stone alcove. Whereas the stonework leading to this chamber is rough, the walls in the alcove are polished. A single gem rests among the neatly filed papers on the desk, emitting a soft luminescence that brightens the small room.
The paperwork on the desk is a priceless collection of Pathfinder Society lore and information describing dozens of unexplored sites. Unfortunately, most are completely undecipherable and will take the Society weeks to decode.
Gardol |
"Best we take all this paperwork back to the the Venture-Captain at the Grand Lodge...might want to take that gem, as well..."
Gardol starts gathering the paperwork for transport to the Lodge.
Kranzer Kraken-Mouth |
"Aye, see what'd I Tell ya? Smart!"
Kranzer helps carry anything back to the Lodge and slaps each companion hard on the back.
"We did it!"

Stopping a moment, she thoroughly searches the room for anything the may have missed.

GM Granta |
Tishka and Huratas are unable to find anything else, but when dealing with someone crafty enough to hide things for over a century--who ever really knows for sure?
On your way out of the Shrine, the crowd is dispersing, and you can hear many mutters about "poor Sir Reinhart". Apparently, he tried to vault the chasm on horseback, and fell into oblivion. But the knight was brave until the end; nobody heard him scream on the way down.
Back at the Grand Lodge, you find Drandle Dreng in his office. "So . . . what do you have for me?"
Tishka Beger |
"Oh, I had a couple pieces of it too." remarks Tishka, dumping a few pages on the man's desk.
"Is it what you were looking for? It was in the back of the fallen aspirants shrine. Really strange place for it, but they didn't ask me."
GM Granta |
"Most interesting. But I can't possibly read all of this without a glass of wine." Drandle says with a completely straight face.
"Between this discovery and Janira's report on your Confirmation, you're not doing too badly. I suspect we'll have another mission for you lot soon."
Drandle's aide ushers you out of the room without another word from the Venture Captain, but several days later you each receive a letter from the Society.
Mission complete. Part three will start October 6.
Tishka Beger |
I didn't cheat!...I mean...what spoiler...
GM Granta |
It's always bothered me that not even the GM knows what's going on. All the scenario says is, "If the PCs confront Dreng about the convenience of finding a long-lost trove of documents by following his directions, the venture-captain does little to confirm or deny his knowledge and simply emphasizes the importance of the find and how the PCs will be the ones to investigate this potentially far-reaching discovery."
Tishka Beger |
Agreed. I finally just decided, he knows its there...just not which bottle it is. So he periodically sends recruits to pick up specific ones. Either he gets a decent drink, or he finds what he's looking for. (Had to give him some motivation after running it so many times...)
