Once everyone is safely across the crack in the floor, Heryn leads you into the wine racks, "We are looking for the Barrowwood Estates Cabernet Sauvignon, 4690 AR. I think the label should be dark purple.

"To be quite honest, I didn't even realize we had this particular vintage, so I don't know where it will be. Drandle seemed positive that we had it, though."

A minute later, Kembe shouts, "Found it!" but when he tries to take the bottle off the rack, it doesn't move. Instead, a secret door opens in the back wall. Heryn backs away in surprise, "Umm . . . I don't know what that is. You should make sure it's safe. You've been trained, right?"

After a short tunnel, you see a small room with a desk covered in papers. The room is lit by a glowing stone above the desk, with four dark tunnels leading away.

Forvenniel hesitates, waiting for the others to advance into the area before following them in.

"The moon has not seen in here for a long time."

"Woa-ho-ho! What have we here? Heryn's secret cave, eh? Won't mind if I do!" he says as he steps into the tunnel system. What in the hell is down here? How does a bartender not know about her own secret tunnel?

"The sun probably hasn't either! This will have to do for now," he says as he snaps his fingers, causing a bright light to appear. Upon closer inspection, you see a small stone in his hand is generating the light. He tosses it gently down a corridor.

"What a place for a study! I wonder if it has anything worth reading in it!" Norril ponders out loud as he moves towards the desk. Perhaps some lost knowledge of the arcane variety? I'm in no condition for such text now, but tomorrow I probably will be!

She glances uneasily at the papers, the light and then the dark tunnel, before casting a quick enchantment and checking for the presence of magic.

"Amazing! Bevole, check this out!" Zev moves quickly into the room, sharing Norrils curiosity about what's on the desk as his familiar pops back into reality, landing on the desk and sniffing at the documents.

"I was thinking the same thing Forvenniel. Not about the moon, I mean checking for magic. You're probably right about the moon though."

He casts detect magic with a particular interest in the glowing stone. "This would make reading by a campfire significantly easier! Gods know the fire usually flickers too much and you get headaches from the eye strain."

If the stone doesn't detect as magic, Zev will begin helping Norril search for anything interesting to read.

Leaving the beefier party members to handle the arachnids, Norril steps back into the hallway. He cradles his stung arm as he feels some sort of poison begin to spread, unsure if his body will be able to fend it off. "Deep in the cellar, far below, creatures stir, and heroes show!" Now if only they will kill them quickly!

Forvenniel conjures a burst of light in front of the closest creature, causing spots of light to continue glowing in its field of vision. Norril steps back, nursing his wound, and begins a rousing song.

Zevryn, too enamored with the magical stone, almost hadn't noticed the scorpions before Kembes call to arms. Turning around to see the man staring at the ceiling, Zev frowns and takes a step back, considering his options.

Norril draws his crossbow and fires it at the scorpion at Kembe's side, but the bolt barely makes it out of the crossbow! What was that? Going to have to get this damn thing checked.

He takes a step closer to Kembe. "At me you wretched curs!" he cries out, hoping to keep his companion up by diverting some of their attention, despite the burning in his arm.

@Norril & Zevryn: You may store your crossbow loaded ONLY IF you expect to use it soon. Storing it in the loaded position for long periods of time is both dangerous to your own feet and harmful to the equipment. If you wish to always store it loaded, be warned that I will throw some realism at you.

@Sejiri: You may combine drawing a weapon with a regular move, not a 5-ft step.

Sejiri draws his little sling staff and loads a bullet, while Forvenniel conjures the same spell once again and with similar effect. Kembe feels poison coursing through his veins for a few seconds, but the burning quickly fades as he punches one of the scorpions solidly.

Norril and Zevryn both draw and load their crossbows, painfully slow from Kembe's point of view, as two more stings pump poison into his bleeding body.

Behind him, on the desk, Bevole growls angrily, tail up over his head, but helpless to assist.

Sejiri's sling bullet hits at a bad angle, and harmlessly skips off the scorpion's body, then Forvenniel revives Kembe--whose skill becomes blatantly necessary as Zevryn's attack almost hits an ally.

While trying to fight off the poison coursing through his veins, Kembe goes full offensive from the floor at the already damaged scorpion.

Kembe manages to grab the scorpion's stinger as it lashes downward, and twist the limb painfully. The stinger manages to scratch him though, as do one of the claws; and Forvenniel suffers a couple of blows as well.

Sejiri hits one of the scorpions with a sling bullet, almost knocking it from the ceiling. Conversely, Forvenniel just heals herself with the wand, clearly out of her element.

Norril then grabs the wand from her and heals Kembe, who stands up despite another sting from one of the scorpions. Zevryn gives the red-tailed scorpion a little love tap, but it turns out to be enough, as the creature takes one last stab at Forvenniel before falling unconscious. And making matters worse, the other scorpion drops Kembe again.

Everybody is up. More Fort saves from Forvenniel (2) and Kembe (3).

Did the 15 and 19 not make the saves? Ouch. These saves are without the extra +2 from the Rite of Bodily Purity, as that was burned in the second save (if the first failed). Sorry I wasn't clear about that above. If the two saves are from two different poisons then I'm doing this wrong :-)

"What kind of bar gets scorpions in the basement anyway?" Zevryn asks trying to keep light of the situation as Kembe continues rising and falling in combat while Bevole chitters nervously behind him.

He fires another spell, this time a ray of cold magic at the remaining scorpion.

This time, Sejiri's stone bounces off harmlessly, as it strikes at too wide an angle. Forvenniel and Norril exchange the wand two more times, both healing Kembe, who carefully stands up. And this time, he manages to stay conscious for more than a second at a time.

Zevryn's humor seems to be as weak as his magic, but at least they do something: they attract the scorpion's attention. It clambers over toward the wizard, easily clawing and stinging the unprotected prey.

@Zevryn: Please roll 2 Fort saves vs. poison (one for next round).

Kembe for once sees the glow of the hanging orb on the ceiling for more than mere seconds as the vermin skitters away. To his horror however it tears into the unsuspecting and helpful newcomer. "We'll save you Zevryn! Us AND the Moon." He takes a step towards him and punches at the scorpion in his weakened state.

"Just die already!" He says lazily as he slowly regains senses.
