Quintillus Hispaninus |
Durm, perhaps you might want to examine the cave etchings in case they might have something that an oread would find of interest? he begins In fact, I think I remember something that you might find interesting. he says.
Raul the Hunter |
"He is not my... Oh, nevermind," Raul shakes his head, abashed at Maudi's belligerence. "We merely wanted to record why the gillmen came to this cave. For the sake of knowledge and for posterity."
Minna Náttúramœta |
Relieved that the gillman seems willing to humor them, at least for the moment, Minna exhales the breath she hadn't been aware of holding.
"Right...we're from the Pathfinder Society so believe me, we're not here to break anything," she chimes in. "We were just sent here to look around and take notes...all scholar-like."
Raul the Hunter |
"Tell us why you come to these caves, and, if you know, why there is a little city in the middle of the pool."
Durm Grimstone |
Durm continues to look at the murals, not really finding anything of particular interest to oreads.
GM Granta |
"This cave is sacred to my people. It was once sacred to Aroden as well, but the dead god's influence has faded from this place as those carvings have weathered and melted away.
"As to those carvings and this city: they are human things, and I know little of them. We make a pilgrimage to this sacred pool at neap tide, the only time when the water is high enough to submerge in."
He doesn't really have anything else to offer or add, so I'll push forward tomorrow.
Minna Náttúramœta |
"Oh...that explains it then," Minna nods. "Janira will be happy to hear about this! Er, if she doesn't get squished by the minotaur, I mean."
She looks at Raul and the others. "Okay, so you guys were able to make sense of those carvings right? Sounds like it all ties back to the little model city there, somehow. Any ideas?"
Raul the Hunter |
Raul shakes his head. "I fear I do not have any idea, but we have bothered this gentleman long enough. Shall we explore further? Left or right?"
Ash should pick, since he hasn't played this Scenario.
Minna Náttúramœta |
"We can always come back later after we've looked around a bit," Minna adds encouragingly.
"And maybe Grumpy the Gillman will be gone by then," she adds under her breath.
Klah Ashwalker |
Ash sighs, "There goes hope of the easy discovery. I can tell a little of those scenes but I'm afraid the last one is still a loss to me. "
He nods to the Gillman, "May you walk a long path to death. We are sorry again for intruding. "
He begins to look down the south tunnel. "Shall we? "

Raul the Hunter |
"Indeed." Raul draws his bow and makes his way up the flowstone stairs. "I hope Janira returns soon."
Maudi the Giant Vulture |
Maudi gives the gillman one last menacing glare before lifting off from the miniature Star Stone and gliding over to the cave landing. He preens his feathers while waiting for his ground-bound companions.
"Filthy! As though! I keep my wings immaculate."
Shining Fox Blanca |
From her position on Minna's shoulders, Stela chitters quietly and glances back at the gillman as the group prepares to move on.
Let's just hope he doesn't decide to come back with friends to chase us away...

The damp air becomes increasingly stale, and the stench of decay grows as you travel down this tunnel. The passage turns east and opens into a small cavern littered with bits of broken glass, rotting pieces of paper and other unusable detritus. The body of a male humanoid lies facedown toward the back.
But before you can check on him or search the room, several creatures lunge out of the shadows. Despite catching you unawares, the skeletons can't manage to claw Durm or Klah even once!
Everybody is up.
@Maudi: There are low ceilings and tight tunnels, so no flying in here.
Klah Ashwalker |
Ash's eyes grow wide at the sign of the skeletons, "By Pharasma this is unnatural!" he proclaims as he draws his enormous hammer to his shoulders in response to the claws.
5' Step still in flank
Swift: Activate Vermin Focus (Ant) for +2 Strength for 1 minute (currently 18 for +1 to hit and +2 to damage)
Standard: Swing earth breaker
Earth Breaker: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 Damage (B): 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 6) + 6 = 14
Stepping forward Ashwalker's tattoo seems to glow with power. The nearly ghostlike image of an enormous ant seems to appear over his features before disappearing as a mist. He swings his Earth Breaker with all of his might at the (purple) skeleton.
Raul the Hunter |
Raul grits his teeth and frowns upon seeing the skeletal warriors charge from the shadows. He retrieves one of Janira's labeled vials from his own pouch and throws it past Durn, at its skull where it may splash over the adjacent foe and Ashwalker.
Standard:Throw Splash Weapon @ Yellow (Soft Cover from Durn, -2 Range Penalty), PBS) vs. Touch AC
Maudi the Giant Vulture |
Maudi shrieks in response to the appearance of the skeletons. He shoulders his way past Raul and Durm, eager to get to the enemy.
"Foul magic! Fear not, I will set your corpses to rest!"
Durm Grimstone |
"Time to break some bones!"
Durm steps into the fray to get a cleaner shot, and then starts kicking
and punching the undead monsters.
Swift: Assume Dragon Style

Standard: Unarmed Strike at North one
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Damage, First Strike: 1d6 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 2 = 11
Minna Náttúramœta |
"Alright...time to crack some skulls," Minna grins, though there's a hard glint in her eyes. She draws her mace and steps forward a pace behind Raul. "Come on Lady Luck, don't let us down!" she calls out and a feeling of good fortune washes over the party.
______
Minna draws her mace (move action), takes a 5 foot step forward, and casts Bless on the party (standard action).
GM Granta |
@Quintillus: Yes, you have the available actions to cast and retrieve an item.

Round 2
Effects bless

- Green - 1 damage
- Raul -
- Maudi -
- Quintillus - mage armor
- Durm - 12 damage, dying
- Klah -
- Minna -
Raul's flask separates one of the skeletons from whatever evil force had been animating it, while Maudi foolishly tests his luck against the skeletons. Quinitillus casts a protective charm on himself, and Durm cracks the stone, but misses the skeleton. Klah's hammer utterly destroys another monster, though. Minna also draws a weapon, then asks fortune to favor the Pathfinders.
Unfortunately, one of the skeletons somehow rips through Durm's tough skin and spills his vital organs all over the cavern floor.
Everybody is up. Keep in mind that I resolve in initiative order, as Durm's possible actions will depend on who heals him.
Raul the Hunter |
"Durm!" Raul takes a step toward the fallen oread. "Durm is down!"
He swings at one of the skeletons (green) with his halberd, a swift vertical chop.
Standard: Attack, Bless
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Maudi the Giant Vulture |
"Surely now is not your time, Durm. Wait."
The giant vulture snaps at the animated bones (red).
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Klah Ashwalker |
Ash roars, "Death may come for Durm, but not today, and not from the likes of... " He spits as the words fly at the skeleton, "You! " He shifts his positioning somewhat to try and open up the room. Once in position he again throws his weight into another swing of his weapon.
Hold onto your soul Durm, Pharasma has not named you yet.

Minna Náttúramœta |
"Durm! Hold on friend, we won't let you go that easily!" Minna cries as Durm takes a nasty hit and drops to the cavern floor. She...
...steps forward and taps Raul on the shoulder. "Here, a this'll give you a little extra 'oomph' the next time you swing!"
Minna casts Guidance on Raul.
...maintains her position and calls out to the spirits to stop their companion's bleeding and buy him some time.
Minna casts Stabilize on Durm.
GM Granta |
- Durm - 12 damage
- Quintillus - 4 damage
Distraught over his companion's fate, Raul's vision blurs and his aim falters. Unburdened by compassion for the oread, Maudi's miss must be due to circumstances beyond the vulture's control. Quintillus suffers a wicked scratch for his bravery, but takes down his target as reward. Klah destroys the final skeleton, as Minna rushes to Durm's aid.
Heal up, and let me know what/how you want to search.
Minna Náttúramœta |
With the immediate threat ended, Minna quickly draws the healing wand they'd found in Janira's pack and sets to work mending the damage the skeletons had caused.
"Okay...that was a great job guys! But next time let's try to leave out some of the bodily harm to ourselves," she muses as she works.
Cure Light Wounds (Durm): 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Cure Light Wounds (Durm): 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Cure Light Wounds (Durm): 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Cure Light Wounds (Quintillus): 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Wand charges remaining (4).
Raul the Hunter |
"Minna? How much power does that wand of Janira's have left?" Raul asks, inspecting the vulture's wounds as the shaman tends to their oread comrade. "If there is energy left after bring Durm back from the brink, Maudi has an unpleasant wound that could use mending."
Once his companions are tended to, he explores the room, looking for hidden treasures that the rotten necromancer might have stashed away.
Durm Grimstone |
Stabilize: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Durm, saved from death by his companions, has no idea what has happened. As he opens his eyes, flat on his back, he sees Minna healing his wounds. "Thank you. What happened? I didn't even see it coming."
GM Granta |
@Quintillus: That rule is for wands that we can purchase normally. This is an NPC wand that the scenario says is more powerful.
While Minna is healing everyone's wounds, Raul discovers a secret passage. He also finds a note on the body detailing plans to start an army of undead made from the “fish people” who have been frequenting this cave, as well as some very well made arrows and jewelry.
Continue along the secret tunnel or backtrack and check the one you skipped earlier?
Raul the Hunter |
The Garundi uncovers the passage way. "Look here!"
Ash can decide, since I know what's in both.
Minna Náttúramœta |
"One of those skeletons got the better of you," Minna responds as she offers a hand to help Durm get to his feet. "Don't feel bad though; I wouldn't have guessed a pile of bones could react that fast either!"
When Raul points out Maudi's injury, the young woman blushes. "Oh! Sorry Maudi..." Minna responds, looking a bit sheepish as she carefully approaches the giant vulture and gently touches the tip of the wand to her beak. "...and Raul. Um, I know how important she has to be to you - Stela's practically my best friend, so I get it. And I don't think I could live with myself if I let someone else's animal friend get hurt or die because I wasn't paying attention."
With the healing taken care of, Minna peers curiously over Raul's shoulder at the note and other items that he'd found on the man's body. "An undead army?" she sniffs, a look of distaste on her face. "Looks like this guy should've paid more attention in class. At any rate, maybe that gillman will be a little more friendly now that we've taken care of this guy."
She glances over at the secret tunnel and then back the way they'd came. "I'm good with going whichever direction," she shrugs.
Cure Light Wounds (Maudi): 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Wand charges remaining (3).
Durm Grimstone |
"Maybe if we tell the gillman what we found, he might be inclined to teach us more about his people."
Klah Ashwalker |
Ash frowns at the entire situation, "skeletons, dead fish people coming to life, this sounds like foul magic at work. For our sales, and the sakes of the gillmen , I say press through your tunnel Raul"
In response, Ash doesn't wait for a response and begins down the tunnel.

Maudi the Giant Vulture |
The giant vulture, moving slower on the ground, takes the rear-guard as they enter the tunnel.
Minna Náttúramœta |
"Right; most magic of that sort is bad news," Minna whispers as she takes her place back at the rear of the group.
