Gob Smash One

Game Master Tacticslion

They be goblins, you be food... why are they so weird, dude?

That's what the W.D.G.F.F. (Western Duchy Goblin Fighting Force) first Reconnaissance and Strike Crew, aka "Gob Smash One" (that's you) have been sent to find out, in the barren mana wastes beyond the edge of the Duchy near the border of Geb in an ancient abandoned outpost called Hightower...

Well I figured that whatever DC I had to roll would be higher than a 14 and we didn't have enough time to take 10.

That's fine! I mention because we just hit 3-4 Nat-1s in a row.

Not a problem! Thanks for letting us know! We look forward to seeing you!

Also... the initiative rounds are almost over... almost...

EDIT: also, sorry Pix Lulu, but the door doesn't hide candy. Plenty of dust and musty smells, though - except for wet goblin drying smells! It doesn't have those! Yay!

EDIT: Also, sorry that, once again, it's so late. Family party time is awesome, but it interferes with my ability to post as early as I would like. I may (or may not, though hopefully I will) post earlier tomorrow.

Although I'm not sure I'd recommend waiting, you can choose to hold off on the Antitoxin until Layla can use the kit on you for a guaranteed success. I'm not sure I'd recommend taking it immediately, either. By taking it immediately, you gain an immediate bonus to hopefully avoid taking CON dmg; by waiting, you (semi-likely) take 1d2 CON damage, but guarantee not to take more. I, as GM, will be fine either way. Choose your poison! (Heh.)

EDIT: a clarification: the obscuring mist is 20ft. Away. The blue haze is 80ft. That said, since the haze started miles away, and now is not, your stated actions are likely the same...

Although it would have been prudent for Eris to wait, her judgement is somewhat impaired, and the antitoxin smelled delicious. So she drank it.

Turned out she would have been fine without it! Fate, in the form of a natural 20, smiled upon her.

I just want to be clear here: I can't study the room to gain new spells right? Do you want me to roll something for taking control of the Ray of Frost?

You cannot study the room at present... unless, of course, you decided to let your allies go do stuff while you spend time studying someone else's scribed notes, like from a Spellbook. Your call, really, but I think you'd enjoy adventure more.

Taking control is a caster level check and a Spellcraft. (You could use a charisma check too, I suppose, - one check for each - but, you know, I'm presuming you don't want todo that. :)

Everyone, please note that Shaedo's performance is continuing into this round, so unless the GM rules otherwise, everyone still has the triple action and enhanced speed from the previous two rounds.
Shaedo's only action besides singing and communicating with the others is to move to the other side of the door.

None have to take her advice of using donkeys to close door, but as a character with little physical strength of her own, she tries to think of creative ways to handle heavy lifting, pushing and pulling.

GM, I am assuming the doors open outward (siege resistance!), but please correct me if I'm wrong (it would be even easier to use donkey power to close doors otherwise).

On the side, I saw the pun coming up a couple of posts away- it is plausibly within Shaedo's character to say it, whether or not it is intended on her part. However, now that I see it in a post, I fear it may be a little over the top. >.>

I'm gonna do that here because it's too late to edit my post and it'd look awkward in the gameplay tab. I'm not sure I want to take ten on the Caster Level Check. I'd only get a 12 which is kinda low.

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Caster Level: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

Edit: Finally some good rolls. Can I start posting all my rolls in this tab from now on? :P

I feel I need to clarify something OOC... Ceru is NOT an alchemist. The joke of her backstory is that she was so horrible at alchemy she failed to make anything that worked as it was intended, but somehow the failed concoctions were perfectly tasty, and so she became a cook instead.

Ceru is a gnome rogue with a handful of SLAs, and no ranks whatsoever in Craft (Alchemy). The chirurgeon's kit she carries (that has the antitoxin and stuff in it) was purchased (although it's entirely likely she managed to get cinnamon flavored remedies--although my rudimentary knowledge of herbalism suggest clove might be more likely as part of an antitoxin). Her general character concept is gnome who was too ADD to learn magic properly, so she became a rogue who is still fascinated by the arcane and fringe things like arcane linguistics.

I'm cool with the characters ICly somehow assuming Ceru is an alchemist, given her fascination with substances and flavors, but I want to be sure the meta-wise, you understand she is not capable of alchemy and can't help the party in that way save for what she's got in her backpack.

Male Gnome Experimental Gunsmith 3 | AC 21 T 16 FF 16 | HP 28/28 |F 5 R 7 W 2 | Init +7

Vitreous assumes you are an excellent alchemist, and will offer his skills to assist in replacing restoratives. He has a +8 to craft alchemy so with assistance can probably make most things.

Not sure about the gameplay thread. I haven't gotten over a ten yet on any attack rolls from my pistol, luckily I haven't needed to actually fire it yet.

EDiT: Shaedo, the magic of your music has now ended. Please subtract a number of rounds from your daily performance equal to the number of rounds you sang (minimum 0 remaining today no matter how much you sang, though I don't think you used all of them).

The Aklo chant was part of a bluff and the Sylvan song of love and beauty was just -relatively- normal performance. Shaedo was taught that these two languages are opposites, and they can be used to balance each other, so when she saw that nasty skull- it was time to balance Aklo with a little Sylvan!

As far as bardic performance, I do believe I sang for three rounds, leaving me with six. (Whoo- my voice is tired!) ~_^

Oh, and Shaedo still should have about a minute left of her current invisibility, though depending on how long everything takes that the party is doing, she should be reappearing probably by the time the party decides which door to take- if not sooner.

EDIT: I added a HP and Daily Resources tab to Shaedo's profile (an idea I adapted from someone in the group- was it Lulu?).
There I will track uses of Shaedo's spell-like abilities, ki, bardic performance and hit points.

Oh, and of course,

Shaedo could still be talked out of it in the meantime, if anyone is so inclined to do so.

I be here ta' learn about all'a different peoples an', then I gots all tangled up with tha' folks wantin' ta' train peoples agin their Gobbie problem. This part of tha' time be right confusin' an' I still kind'a be workin' through all that.

Then, we all woke up on our small horses, all a'ridin' though tha' warm, dry place in this part of tha' world.

Then, as we wus comin' to our selfs, a BIIG, HUGE storm come rollin' down a'top us! (O_O)

It weren't like no storm I ever seen a'fore, let me tell you! An' my kin can see tha' storm whut never ends! (From tha' top of our highest islands...when it's rilly stormy...on'a good day, like)

WHut were happenin' in'a sotrm were also confusin'. But we all kne it were a right bad place t'a be so we all made a final dash ta' where we were asked ta' go ta' help solve tha' people's Gobbie problem.

So, after tha' ride up tha' hill, an' tha' tangle with some Gobbies, we got our selfs inside th' place and then! in tha' tail of tha' storm there were more even stranger stuffs goin' on an' this lady kind'a...um...fell out'a it.

We caughter her, dragged her in with us an have now bin pokin' about an seein' to her soothin'.

I think that pretty much covers tha' basics?

I know I've missed stuff, but that's tha' right of whut I can recall, any ways.

Tha' notion that tha' lady is tha'' dragon form tha' storm...I, forgets where that link be. But I did read it in'a open post...from tha' DM, I be thinkin'. It were in'a description some where.

Then, there be tha' post from Layla about tha' connection a'tween tha' lady we got here an' tha' lady whut were trainin' us a'fore.

So. Tha' lady, who were a dragon at one point, were also tha' lady who were trainin' us. Who, were tha' lady who were leadin' tha' people's agin tha' Gobbies. Who give us tha' information about where ta' go ta' get tha' Gobbies. Who, when we were here an' bein' lashed by tha' storm, turned up 'possibly' as a dragon an' possibly got in't a fight with...somat (Not quite clear on that fightin' bit) BUT tha' dragon went from...um dragon ta' lady. Who...like I said, we'd all seen afore.

(>_>)

So...that's kind'a tha' who of tha' dragon lady.

As fer why she be here? Ah, that be a question even we in't bin askin' yet. See? Ye be standin' back an' thinkin' all ahead of us! (^_^)

Me potin's gon'a be a tad cramped by me workin' quite a few hours soon. So, sadly, no more rilly big posts lie this fer a copl'a days.

I be keepin' a eye on'a thread an' might be able ta' add lil' posts about tha'place. Hope I've bin some small help ta' ya Lulu. I be sure t'others'll be about ta' keep answerin' ye questions an' helpin' ye about. (^_^)

If you need a "full game rundown":

(before the game)
1) you were recruited by the W.G.F.F. ostensibly under the command of a woman you only briefly met once, "Emergency-General Amita Narahari" who had only recently come to the Mana Wastes and founded the W.G.F.F.
2) you underwent a strange hazily-recalled "training", you're now all good at killing things and knowing stuff
3) you were equipped and sent to a place on the far South and West of the Mana Wastes called High Tower to destroy some Gobs... if any of them were there... with instruction to report back afterwords, "if possible"

(During the game)
4) as you neared the place, a huge storm welled up; a strange one that had many chaotic effects
5) your group used the storm to attack some goblin watchers, before fleeing into the Tor (basically an enormous rock on a big hill) you came here for: High Tower
6) you're now inside the Tor, with three ways to go, as described before: straight (long straight dark corridor), right (long, curving corridor ending in stairs down), or left (long curving dark corridor)
7) during the storm, there appeared a large bat-winged skull and dragon who fought each other. The skull tried to kill you guys, but the dragon stopped it, and tossed it into deadly stuff, and then turned into a woman (the "Emergency-General" Amita Narahari mentioned in the first post) who collapsed
8) she was dying, but was successfully (if barely) saved, though unconscious; using blue stuff on her that was used in your training mysteriously saved her life and somehow gave information (as presented in my most recent post)

Your stated goal was to get any goblins in this tower, and report back if possible.
You're currently trapped in the tower/Tor by the storm.
You guys are deciding which direction to go.

Anything I'm missing?
(I think that's everything that's relevant to this point.)

I would say first of all, to Lulu and to everyone else, I don't think anyone should feel bad for being confused or lost in the flurry of events that tends to happen here. There are a LOT of people here--and sometimes a lot of people post this huge flurry of posts at once (usually while I am asleep), so it's hard to keep track of everything.

My tactic is normally just to pick just one or two things to react to and just stick to those things where possible. It means I may not reply to everybody, and while that runs the unfortunate risk that it may seem like I am ignoring someone (I really am not) I can only do so much before I feel too lost myself. (For example, in a smaller game, Ceru might have also participated in the riddle contest that happened at the beginning of the game, but she was already talking to some other people and then we were asked to focus on the game's start, so I decided I had to let that go to perform properly in the bits I was already paying attention to.)

I'll be honest, when I threw my hat in the ring, I thought it would be more like a typical game where the number of players are limited. That didn't happen. That's okay! But I accepted that meant things were going to be chaotic. It's just going to feel different than a normal PBP (it feels more like a freeform PBP, really, where there a lot of different people coming in and out all the time).

I think it would be helpful, since there are so many PCs, to only have a couple, at most, choices offered us at any one time, so we can all focus on one problem---a lot of enemies/choices/problems is often valuable in an RPG, but that's when you're presuming a typical party of four to six.

I will also say, if people are more comfortable with a smaller group, while I am having fun, I am willing to pull out to make it easier for everyone else. You're not going to lose a lot, save apples, from losing Ceru, and I'm in several other PBPs. Just let me know, here or via PM. I don't want to leave per se, but I'm willing to do so if it makes for a better game.

I just want to play Lulu becuase she cannot get into most games becuase of her race not being a paizo race.

came from this book

and it is not in the SRD

I fear Lulu is very under-powered but can be great fun especially in a smaller group.

but I will try harder to stay on target but I do know I will have difficulty in the future.

I think I could learn from Ceru's approach. I tend to want to interact with as many as I can, and end up maybe including too much in my posts, which may be part of why they can be confusing at times.
Also, with a group this big, it is easy for us to get separated. Multiple things are often happening at once in different places.

Though Shaedo has not had much chance to get to know Lulu, I just want to say that I like Lulu as a character, execution and concept, as I do all the characters with whom I am sharing this adventure. I hope the two of us can get along!
I am very new to PbP, so if I am missing any sort of proper etiquette or posting guidelines, please let me know. Especially if it would make my posts easier to follow.

(I did read the stuff that GM Tac sent us in the beginning, such as this, but if there is anything else I am missing about how how to do this, let me know!)

No, Ceru, you can't be quitting yet! We haven't gotten to the point of the story where it makes sense! We're, like, 1/6 of the way there, so you can tell that it happens first thing!

More seriously, I'm sorry the pace is difficult to keep up with... however! We are not currently in-combat. Hence botting is less necessary and pace-setting is a bit more relaxed.

Combats, as I said, need to be tightly-run affairs, or else they will never get completed. Hence the request for 1-2/day, though it seems more than 1/day was impossible for most.

Out of combat, the pace is less of an issue - you can post more at your leisure. I'll respond to things and give over-all summaries as-needed. No problem for me. :)

I'd like to poke my head in here to say that I'm enjoying this game quite a bit. I would certainly like to do whatever I can to help make things easy and fun for all the players.

I have noticed that with so many of us, there can be a lot of 'clutter', which can make the flow of the story tough to follow at times. I've decided I'm going to try and streamline my posts by putting conversations into spoilers wherever possible. Not to exclude anyone from any conversation or to hide any information, but to mark things as 'optional' for those who may not have the time to read through everything and would like to focus on the meat of the story.

So here's how it works: anything I post is free for anyone to respond to, if they want. (Even if I post a conversation specifically to Dijiron, for instance, you can certainly say your character overheard and interjected, if you want.) But it's all completely optional, and you don't have to respond or acknowledge if you don't want.

If Eris is speaking to the group at large, or is taking actions in a combat-type situation, I'll leave those things out of spoiler blocks, so that everyone involved can see them quickly. I'll also try to keep my posts as concise and to-the-point as possible (sheepish admission: I have a tendency to ramble on, and write posts longer than they need to be; this post may well be a case in point).

I have greatly enjoyed the character of Eris Kaddren, specifically because she has grown and developed in ways I hadn't expected, and that really intrigues me. I wanted her to be prideful and arrogant, and she is, but I hadn't expected that she would also turn out to be so likable, or that she in turn would develop such an affection for her squadmates. She has quickly become one of my favorite characters--I'm excited to see where she goes to next.

I'll try to streamline or use spoiler tags as Eris suggested.

Lulu, Layla tried to give you a brief summary in my most recent gameplay post.
Also, as others have already described above, the woman who trained us appeared as a dragon to defend us then fell unconscious and turned back into a woman when she was seriously injured in battle. Now we're carrying her with us. Her name is Amita Narahari.
I think she's the only important named character so far, except for all us PCs.

Also, I think it would be fun to see a little gnomance in this campaign. ;)

(What? They both have a compulsive love of opening doors and of eating good food. What else do you need in a relationship, really?)

Faen Sorcerer (crossblooded) 1 | AC 14 T 14 FF 11 | HP 6/8 | F +2 R +3 W +2 | Init +3 | percep +2

and who are you referring to?

LOL, Layla is rooting for a romance between the only two gnomes in our group, Ceru and Vitreous. :)

good, cause for a minute I thought you thought that everyone else thought I was a gnome. cause there is no way that Lulu would stand for being called a gnome, however...if....

never-mind, I am not a gnome, right Pix? Pix? stop laughing Pix... I'm gonna get you

<runs off after Pix>

Grr... okay, you should know: my iPad's autocorrect is really irritating right now. It's absolutely convinced that every instance of Layla erg, of Layla, grr of Lulu is supposed to be Layla (as you can see), it enjoys switching my commas (,) for exclamation points (!), is certain that I want to talk about Douglas firs whenever I write "fir" arg, "fir", dang it, "fir"... Fir fir fir fir fooooooooooooooor - the word "for" - and reorganizes entire words along similar lines after I've left them. Hence, if you see something that's along the above lines! please mentally correct it and/or feel free to ask to clarify. It's really annoying, and difficult to correct. Also, formatting is a bear. My apologies for any confusion that results. I'm really trying. The above is just so you can see what I do normally with this sort of thing. Thanks!

(No, but seriously, why fir? That doesn't make any sense at all! Sure, "I" and "O", they're next to each other, but if I accidentally typed "for"... Dag. Gum it. I typed the tree and got "for" instead. Aaaaaaarrrrrrrrrg!!!!!!! - anyway, if I accidentally typed it once or even twice, why would it autocorrect? And why isn't it Autocorrecting this note? So irritatingly random! Ugh, this machine. Sometimes... So awesome, and so annoying. Blarg. But at last I can update while on a trip. That's pretty awesome. :D)

How we goin' with gttin' peopls of tha' sleepin' kind ta' move? Or has we some other way of keepin' 'em out'a harm's way fer tha' moment?

This is a good question. I'm going to 'bot Stone for now as "official defender of the stuff" until he otherwise comes to reclaim his character and tell me actions. The mobility of unconscious folk are probably entirely in the hands - er saddles - of the mounts. Simply place people or creatures on the mounts, and they can move most places. Stone can stay and guard folk, and anyone who wishes to guard with him can do so.

Also, Lulu, no need to change your name! ... and, just to be perversely contrary, my iPad has (for now) stopped attempting to auto-correct it, naturally, as soon as I post about how it's auto-correcting it... *Overly-dramatic sigh!* ;D
