Male Half-Orc Inquisitor of Gorum 2

"Your mother will be happy to see you," Chardak replies. He looks ahead somewhat apprehensively. Passing the gate in daytime would leave him exposed to the taunts and jeers of any townspeople they passed.

He lifts the girl Annah to his left shoulder and slides into the center of the party so that the pile of leather armor on Karthan's horse is on his right. He nudges Nesteruk and motions for him to join him beside the horse. "How will they receive us?"

female

The mayor wife responds "Well you did fight off the towns enemy that did pose a threat to anyone gathering wood. For the most part. Here in southwatch we care about deeds rather than what you were born as." The mayor wife then looks deep in thought.

Male Half-Orc Inquisitor of Gorum 2

"That's not always true." Chardak rumbles.

Male Human Cleric/1

Jondar places a hand on Chardak's shoulder and says, "You and Nesetruk both fought well and in the service of Southwatch. I count both of you as companions and friends. If they shun you both they shun me as well, but I think we all will be greeted as the heroes we are. Tonight we shall feast and raise drinks to our fallen comrade Symas."

Male Half-Orc Inquisitor of Gorum 2

Chardak grins, "That would please the lord in iron."

Nesteruk looked confused.

Why would they shun us? Lastwall is not known for shunning anyone who steps up in the defence of its settlements. Even though I originally came from the Hold of Belkzen, they have always made me welcome in Vigil once I proved myself.

female

The little girl states "I think you are all heroes."

Male Human Cleric/1

Jondar smiles down at the little girl and says, "Thank you little one and you were very brave little girl when we found you."

"It doesn't matter who we are or what we've done. We all die just as easily as the next." Lyle interjects, giving a morbid turn to the conversation. Realizing his faux pa, he quickly adds "Let's just get this done, so we can move to the next job."

"Once they know you maybe. But when people don't know you they judge how you look."

The half-orc listens to the interplay between little Annah, Jondar, and Lyle. He nods agreement with the halfling. "Let's get this done and go to Jondar's feast."

Anna adds to Jondar's reply

"Indeed you were a brave little one."

The mayor's wife says "I don't have much expirence with that looking almost completely normal for beign from Lastwall."

Male Half-Orc Inquisitor of Gorum 2

Chardak looks at the mayor's wife. "I haven't been here in a long time. When I was a boy, the other children were not kind."

'Children never are," Lyle says in a wry tone.

Karthan says "we should not linger here much longer let us move inside the city walls" Karthan leads his horse through the gates of the city. assuming party follows Just inside the gates the same town gaurd that was ranting yesterday seeing the mayor's wife says [b]"congratulations heroes took a while but you got the mayor wife back good job. I hope you don't get captured again. Wow they found the missing girl too..."

Male Half-Orc Inquisitor of Gorum 2

Chardak looks puzzled. "We were not captured?"

The city guard says "I was talking to her the" and points to the mayor's wife.

Male Half-Orc Inquisitor of Gorum 2

Chardak nods and shuts up.

Sorry, that kind of deliberately misunderstanding humor is a weakness of mine.

Getting straight to business, Lyle clears his throat before saying, 'And the reward...?"

The City gaurd says "You will have to talk to the mayor for that."

Lyle sighs, loud enough for the guard to hear him, then waits for the party's next move.

Male Half-Orc Inquisitor of Gorum 2

Chardak waits too. After all the rest of the party did the negotiating.

Male Human Cleric/1

"Well, let us see the mayor my friends and these two to their respective families.", says Jondar as he walks through the gates of the town.

Inside town it seems to be running normally with a few commoners walking in the street minding their own business. A few walk by but mostly seem to be going through their daily lives nothing major or out of the ordinary seems to be happening. The door to city hall is shut and as the party opens it. behind the desk a young Taldan man sits behind there And he says "state your business in city hall." The mayor wife walks in and he then asks "Are you the adventurers that went to rescue the mayor's wife?"

Winter Witch 3

"We are."

The young Taldan man replies "Very well he will be with you shortly" He then takes a small bell out of the drawer of his desk and rings it with a high pitched ring coming off of it.

Male Human Cleric/1

Jondar seems a little surprised by the taldan's comment. His wife has been rescued and he'll see us shortly. Strange. "Strange reaction to finding the mayor's wife and the missing girl don't you think?", Jondar whispers to his friends.

Immediately after Jondar whispers that comment The sound of a chest being slammed shut Then a few footsteps follow heading towards a door. IT has been under a minute since the time you arrived. The mayor is wearing a wool jacket and says "Many thanks. I see my wife is alive and well and welcome back." He then hands a stick of oak wood to Jondar about 6 inches in length. He continues "If you wish to talk more come and take a seat" He shows a small talbe with 8 seats with a well made seat towards the end of the table.

Lyle nods to Jondar in silent agreement of his last statement before seating himself at the table. Something's not right here, he thinks silently.

Male Half-Orc Inquisitor of Gorum 2

Chardak keeps to the middle and rear of the group. He keeps near Nesteruk and looks to his fellow half-orc for social cues. He mumbles to the alchemist.

In orc:
"This little man leads the town? Karthan is more fit.

The mayor clears his throat and asks "DId you find anything that captured my wife or any immediate danger to the town?"

Male Human Cleric/1

Jondar inspect the stick handed to him by the mayor and assumes its the wand of cure light wounds promised before they left town and stows it away for later inspection. He looks around for something to drink before he sits down at the table. Once the others sit he says, "We found a cave a day walk from here where your wife and the child were being held by orcs and half-orcs. We lost one member during the assault on the cave, but fortune was with us and we made a tactical retreat. That night while recovering from initial assault a patrol came along and that was when Lyle joined us. The next morning we made a second attempt and were much more successful. We defeated all the inhabitants of the cave and rescued your wife and the child." He glances around the table at the others and says, "Did I miss anything?" He looks to the mayor and asks, "You wouldn't have something to drink by any chance?"

The mayor says "Why would I need to drink now knowing my wife is safe." HE thinks for a moment and says "I know there are a few tribes of orc living in the fangwood we cannot get because of all the other monsters in there and dense foilage. But to see them this close is disturbing"

Male Half-Orc Inquisitor of Gorum 2

"Your patrols are weak or they would have killed the orcs before now. They would not fight the orcs with us. Gorum can not be pleased with such cowards."

He says "No he cannot. Did you get the cowards name?"

Male Half-Orc Inquisitor of Gorum 2

"Sow-low was the sargeant's name. When we told him about the orcs and asked him to help, he left Lyle with us and marched his patrol away."

The mayor says "Hmmm... " then appears deep in though and says "He should be showing up here in ten minutes I think I may have to talk to him. There is only one reason as a scout he may have refused." The mayor now appears to have a grim look on his face then contiues "To report a much more dangerous problem to thier superiors."

** spoiler omitted **

Nesteruk looked a little taken aback that Chardak addressed him in Orc, but answered, a little hesitant as though his tusked mouth was no longer used to speaking in the language-

Orc:

The leadership of the town is surely his by right. Incompetent leaders do not last long in such a place.

Chardak Bonereaper wrote:

Nesteruk had been silent for some time but he spoke up here, a little awkwardly.

Come, Chardak, not everyone can be expected to fight at every opportunity. They are serving the kingdom as best they can and they chose their path. Every man in Lastwall must do his bit for the realm and they risk their lives for theirs. I am sure, when the time comes, they would hold the line he chided, placing great emphasis on his final three words.

Nesteruk addressed the mayor-

This patrol does not report to you then, milord? he asked, pronouncing the title as a common man does, rather than a nobleman's "My Lord". Who do you surmise they report to?

The mayor responds "No these are not my men. They are the men of Thaum gauntwood the captian of castle everstand. He did seem he wanted to take the battle to the orcs."

Male Half-Orc Inquisitor of Gorum 2

"Bah. A woman and child at risk, and they ran." Chardak folds his arms across his chest and closes his mouth with finality.

Karthan chimes in now saying "Scouts are suppose to find the orcs in the first place so we can attack with overwhelming force."

Male Human Cleric/1

"Well, I wouldn't call our group an overwhelming force but we got the job done.", Jondar says with a chuckle. "Now about that drink you mentioned Mayor..." Jondar looks at the mayor with a raised eyebrow hoping he gets the hint.

The mayor responds "No not right now my wife is safe if she wasn't maybe."

Male Human Cleric/1

Jondar looks to the others and wonders, Is this man really that stupid not to get the hint.

"Well, I can't speak for my friend but I need to clean up and get something to drink. Unless you have some other task that requires heroes." , he says with a smile as he stands to leave.

The mayor realizing his mistakes says "Oh yeah I offered you a drink sorry it has been a long day missing my wife. Is their anything you want?"

Lyle sits quietly, listening to "the big people" discuss their "matters of importance".

Was the wand the only reward for this task? A good man died fighting for your wife, perhaps you should honour his sacrifice by providing coin to keep us fighting the good fight for Lastwall. Another task would also be welcome. This was far more rewarding than militia duty, that is for certain.

The mayor says "There was a traveler who came in who was attacked by bandits recently he was at the local tavern the widow's tankard."

HP 12/17, AC- 15 T- 11 FF- 14 CMD 16 F +7, R +5, W +4, P +8, In +1, AOO +6 Half-Orc Alchemist 2

Nesteruk was too polite to press his other, unanswered question. He turned to the others-

Does this sound like something you might be interested in following up on, or has our time working together come to an amiable end?

Male Human Cleric/1

"I'm willing to take a look into the bandit problem.", Jondar says to Nesteruk.
