Hp 93/93 AC 23 (+14 Perc; +6 Init; Fort +6, Ref +15, Will +8)

I am going up as a straight Oracle.

i do not have channel heal and my mystery/spell/curse is more of a blasty nature.

Male Elf Oracle 3 (Hp. 24/24, AC.17, CMD. 15, Fort. +2, Refl. +3, Will. +5, Init. +2, Channel Postive Energy, 2d6, 6/6 per day.)

One quick change to my character. Changing Extra Revelation to Selective Channeling.

Feel free to tweak your character's as much as you like, just let me know what you're doing.

Sorry for the delay. I'm just trying to plan out the transition from this part of the campaign to the next. If everything shakes out, I'll update in the next couple of days.

Hp 93/93 AC 23 (+14 Perc; +6 Init; Fort +6, Ref +15, Will +8)

sure thing tks for the update :)

Ok, I tweaked Travigan a teeny bit. Bumped all his stats up to 18. That's cool, right?

=P

Male Elf Oracle 3 (Hp. 24/24, AC.17, CMD. 15, Fort. +2, Refl. +3, Will. +5, Init. +2, Channel Postive Energy, 2d6, 6/6 per day.)

Oh no, don't do that! Because then the rest of will just sit there and go; "Oh look, there's Mr. Perfect. Doing what he does best. Which is everything."

=P

Mmmm. I was just skimming through all the various rage powers available to barbarians when I saw terrifying howl. This would be sooo great but I'm not sure I've the dedication to invest SIX more levels into barbarian to qualify for it.

Multiclassing and Prestige Classing makes for tough decisions some times!

I think I've had to re-recruit like 3 times for this campaign, so I'm a little fuzzy on what the connections (if any) between your PCs and the town of Diamond lake. If so, could you please remind me. The town is fairly off the beaten path, so there should be something.

It's not pressing, but it will make my life a little easier and it gives you the opportunity to flesh out your characters a bit, if you haven't already.

Thanks

Oh and re:multi-classing, if we actually finish this campaign, the PCs will all hit level 20.

Half-orc Wolf Shaman 2, Init +2, AC 19/17, hits 17/25, F+5 R+3 W+5, Perception +8

Looks like Ulfak and Sandra (and slightly later Travigan) arrived with the grick, beam and ghost boy.

Ulfak was on a quest brought on by a shamanic vision that ended in Diamond Lake. So he didn't know many people around here.

Then he ran out of cash and spent much time at the local soup kitchen run by a caring gnome, Maginnis. The gnome gave him a line on the Whispering Cairn because he is a sorcerer and has connections to a greater mage in the area. But Ulfak's first party were badly beaten by the first traps, and the wolf shaman came back with his tail between his legs.

That led to this better effort and Ulfak feels he is on the right trail now.

Either Travigan or Sandra may have been part of that previous attempt.

Cheers

Hp 93/93 AC 23 (+14 Perc; +6 Init; Fort +6, Ref +15, Will +8)

Sandra came with the second attempt

She was originally from diamond lake, her father worked the mines her mother practice a minor form of benevolent witch craft and herbalist.

HP 22/24, AC 16, CMD 12, Fort +5, Ref +6, Will +1, Init +3, Perception +6, Traps Check 27 Bombs 6/7, Draught 1/1, CLW Extract 3/4

Ratchet was just here to investigate the cairn. His interest is archeology. He doesn't have much connection to the town itself.

The only suggestion I ever came up with was here, namely that Erethyn might have at some point in the past helped care for Travigan's wife when she was sick. Apart from that, I haven't found any other suggested points of common history between Travigan and anyone else in the group.

He's a simple blacksmith from Diamond Lake and his kids have grown and moved away to larger, fairer cities years and years ago.

Male Elf Oracle 3 (Hp. 24/24, AC.17, CMD. 15, Fort. +2, Refl. +3, Will. +5, Init. +2, Channel Postive Energy, 2d6, 6/6 per day.)

I can certainly say that Erethyn has dedicated his life to helping people along their way by healing their wounds and helping them with their illnesses.

A wandering healer by trade, Erethyn has traveled to a great many destinations over the span of the last 2 decades. The death of his one time mentor and friend Lorton Birch brought him back to the area and he has visited Diamond Lake several times now. It is very probable that any of the long term residents have met or even been treated by him at one time or another.

Fanguar, is there anything else that we can give you that'd be helpful for you as we transition into Chapter Two?

The Exchange

Busy with my wife's birthday Easter and running second part of "Rasputin must die" this weekend, posting may be spotty. Should be back to normal Tuesday.

Cheers

Male Elf Oracle 3 (Hp. 24/24, AC.17, CMD. 15, Fort. +2, Refl. +3, Will. +5, Init. +2, Channel Postive Energy, 2d6, 6/6 per day.)

Hey folks, disappearing for a trip until next Tuesday. Sorry for the late notice. Good luck and feel free to NPC me as necessary.

HP 22/24, AC 16, CMD 12, Fort +5, Ref +6, Will +1, Init +3, Perception +6, Traps Check 27 Bombs 6/7, Draught 1/1, CLW Extract 3/4

Ratchet will do jail time before he helps this guy. He also won't work with the party if they decide to work for him.

If that means I have to make a new character or bow out of the game, I will (or I'll just pick the locks and walk out, but might still have to be out of the game).

Allastor died like 50 years ago. He was a runaway that abandoned his family because he did want to do farm chores. That's why he was cursed to never rest. Smenk and Filge have nothing to do with the cairn at all.

Though I guess it is possible for your character to believe that.

HP 22/24, AC 16, CMD 12, Fort +5, Ref +6, Will +1, Init +3, Perception +6, Traps Check 27 Bombs 6/7, Draught 1/1, CLW Extract 3/4

I was under the impression that the reason the kid's soul was stuck in the cairn was because his body had been dug up and stolen.

That was the impression Ratchet was under from talking to the kid. Regardless, still not working with or for anyone who employs a necromancer. Ratchet hates them.

Half-orc Wolf Shaman 2, Init +2, AC 19/17, hits 17/25, F+5 R+3 W+5, Perception +8

I understand all that. Ulfak hates this evil - necromancer lover but we can do more good away from him than behind bars. Ulfak has no intention of working for him. He will but only long enough to get the man caught for all he deserves.

Ratchet may be black and white, but this shaman is all about the shades of grey. I mean what can we do behind bars?

It makes for great roleplay, I mean I had no idea that Ratchet was so serious. And that matters.

Ratchet, just to clarify the events: Alastor's spirit was trapped because his body was in the cairn where he died. We found his bones in one of those weird sacks beneath the narrow walkway with the trap you disarmed halfway across (It's presumed the trap is what killed the little lad). We had to carry his body out to inter it with the rest of his family when we discovered those bodies had been exhumed by Filch/Smenk's men.

Travigan has it. Allastor's request was that he be buried beside his family, but they had been exhumed. All the skeletons you fought in the observatory belonged to his family.

Just to be clear, you don't have to agree to anything, but legally, Smenk is in the right.

Hp 93/93 AC 23 (+14 Perc; +6 Init; Fort +6, Ref +15, Will +8)

how about we listen to the task he wants us to do then we can each decide?

HP 22/24, AC 16, CMD 12, Fort +5, Ref +6, Will +1, Init +3, Perception +6, Traps Check 27 Bombs 6/7, Draught 1/1, CLW Extract 3/4

I'm fine with listening. Its going to have to be a hell of an interesting offer to get Ratchet to budge.

Male Elf Oracle 3 (Hp. 24/24, AC.17, CMD. 15, Fort. +2, Refl. +3, Will. +5, Init. +2, Channel Postive Energy, 2d6, 6/6 per day.)

Oh man. This Smenk guy is so smug, I just want to punch him in the face. Although he'd probably press charges for aggravated assault. To clarify, me, not Erethyn. Although the Elf certainly despises the man.

Curse our reckless adventuring ways.

Hp 93/93 AC 23 (+14 Perc; +6 Init; Fort +6, Ref +15, Will +8)

its fine we are going to destroy more worms and get more info on them any way

Hey, he's just an honest businessman trying to make a living. He knows how had it can be for an ex-con to make it out there and just wants to help you guys out.

Oily f##&er. If he was on fire I'd put in ear plugs and make s'mores.

If Smenk isn't forthright and blurt out exactly what he wants us to do for him within a few breaths, Travigan will earn his stay in jail by adding assault charges to his rap sheet as the angry, raging blacksmith is good to his word and will start swinging for Smenk's face.

Half-orc Wolf Shaman 2, Init +2, AC 19/17, hits 17/25, F+5 R+3 W+5, Perception +8

I don't trust him at all. Rather try for a jail break.

Hp 93/93 AC 23 (+14 Perc; +6 Init; Fort +6, Ref +15, Will +8)

well i am going to the diner.

the possible threat of an infestation of Spawn of Kyuss is enough for Sandra to learn more and hopefully stop this

Male Elf Oracle 3 (Hp. 24/24, AC.17, CMD. 15, Fort. +2, Refl. +3, Will. +5, Init. +2, Channel Postive Energy, 2d6, 6/6 per day.)

Huh, trying to be fugitives on the run could bring a rather interesting element to the game. The disguise checks could be fun to finally play with.

I'm sure in the published adventure this is a pretty straight forward plot hook and the vast majority of parties just grudgingly accept Smenk's terms. I really like how organically and naturally it's played out for our group here though. I don't know that I've seen such natural, character-driven reactions to dealing with an unsavory NPC before in light of the blatant plot-device that it is.

I really like how this has played out and I'm looking forward to how it'll resolve =)

HP 22/24, AC 16, CMD 12, Fort +5, Ref +6, Will +1, Init +3, Perception +6, Traps Check 27 Bombs 6/7, Draught 1/1, CLW Extract 3/4

I'm a dwarf. How long is a human jail sentence going to keep me? A few months? A year. That's fine, I needed a nap anyway.

I'm perfectly fine just doing the time. If that means the area is overrun by zombie worms, fine. As far as I'm concerned this whole area deserves what it gets for letting necromancers live among them, and for letting sleazy bastards try to capitalize on public health and safety issues.

If they really want help dealing with it, they can come talk to me, apologize, and let me out of jail.

Male Elf Oracle 3 (Hp. 24/24, AC.17, CMD. 15, Fort. +2, Refl. +3, Will. +5, Init. +2, Channel Postive Energy, 2d6, 6/6 per day.)

Oh no don't worry about it. I'm loving the role play here.

So Fanguar, since it's obvious that 2 or even 3 of the group are at least temporarily out of commission via jail time or the like, what next? Should they start looking at building characters to replace the members, or does your game have a contingency for this outcome? If they're still interested that is.

HP 22/24, AC 16, CMD 12, Fort +5, Ref +6, Will +1, Init +3, Perception +6, Traps Check 27 Bombs 6/7, Draught 1/1, CLW Extract 3/4

Clearly it means that the rest of you need to get arrested.

Then, when the area is overrun with undead the jail will be the the only safe place around. Everyone else dies and we get to launch into the next section of the game which is a zombie apocalypse scenario. :)

Hp 93/93 AC 23 (+14 Perc; +6 Init; Fort +6, Ref +15, Will +8)

My plan is to go along with the request and do the investigation part. Seeing the danger sandra would come back and try to convince the 3 imprisoned to the terms of the Mayor (ie kill all the worms breeding facility / if you are caught the gov will deny any involvement in your activities)

then we go back and proceed along as planned: Kill all the bad guys / destroy the worm from infesting everything

retired

Smenk's only mentioned worms in his yard from what I can recall so far, where are you getting the notion of a whole breeding facility from, Sandra? Did I miss something from before?

Half-orc Wolf Shaman 2, Init +2, AC 19/17, hits 17/25, F+5 R+3 W+5, Perception +8

Smenk has said little, so I doubt every word he has said. Half truths at best and our deaths at worst.

Cheers

Hp 93/93 AC 23 (+14 Perc; +6 Init; Fort +6, Ref +15, Will +8)

it is conclusion that sandra came up with.

We know that the worm comes from a very far and rather exotic place. (info from the necromancer)

it was therefore imported to this area.

Now if you add the fact that Smenk imply that he is having a worm problem in his backyard does suggest that someone with high up connection is breeding those worms here.

Not many people must have been paying attention as no one knew what those worm did until the necro did his testing and finding out that they infect people and create super zombies.

That that is why he is more than happy just to point us in the right direction without saying much since if we fail / get capture he can deny his implication and even if we are magically interrogated we can't reveal much since he never said anything directly

(its all politics - think House of Cards)

It all very interesting to see how things have played out.

As for how we'll proceed, I'll put up a post tomorrow explain what Smenk actual proposal is and most good aligned characters would feel morally obligated to investigate, no matter the source of the information. But either way, the prison stay wouldn't be more than a week at most, so I don't think that rolling up new characters is really going to be necessary.

This second adventure isn't really crucial to the overall AP, so we could technically skip it completely, but as the consequences of not getting involved are pretty substantial to Diamond lake, we'll play things out for now. Unfortunately, those consequences don't result in a zombie apocalypse, yet.

retired

I find it alarming that consequences NOT resulting in a zombie apocalypse is something to be considered UNfortunate. =P

The Exchange

Ulfak can be swayed by some honesty from "snake-oil smenk".

HP 22/24, AC 16, CMD 12, Fort +5, Ref +6, Will +1, Init +3, Perception +6, Traps Check 27 Bombs 6/7, Draught 1/1, CLW Extract 3/4

I think the best solution to the whole problem is probably to demand payment upfront, take the cash and use it to buy crafting supplies, and let Ratchet spend a week in jail doing nothing but making alchemist's fire and tar oil.

Then we light Smenk's entire property on fire to kill the worms.

Wonder how long an arson sentence is compared to breaking and entering...

Hp 93/93 AC 23 (+14 Perc; +6 Init; Fort +6, Ref +15, Will +8)

i don't think the worms are inside smenk's property :)

would have been a fun plan otherwise...

Dang, Fanguar - you got every one of Travigan's buttons! Shoot!

I think Travigan may be at the front of the line now.

Just keep cool mr barbarian. Your dwarf pal plays the long game and already has plans.

We're going to take this f#~!er apart.

Male Elf Oracle 3 (Hp. 24/24, AC.17, CMD. 15, Fort. +2, Refl. +3, Will. +5, Init. +2, Channel Postive Energy, 2d6, 6/6 per day.)

Well, so much for the Barbarian keeping his cool there.

Erethyn is ready to flash to a dinner scene whenever.

Sorry for the radio silence. Travigan's response is problematic in the 'and then everyone died horribly. The end.' sort of way and I wanted to give it some thought.

Now I assume that everyone does want to play the AoWs AP and not Robber Barons of the Cairn Hills, which while probably awesome, isn't something I'm really in the mood to run.

So with that in mind, sorry for the bit of retcon and DM fiat. For those of you that I am putting words into their PC's mouths, I apologize, but in the end I hope you realize that it's really for the best.

I railroad, because I care.
