Gimble, The Storyteller |
Jafit casts at one of the cots in the room, but it does not help the stench. This is the barracks, not the mess hall. No tables.
Green sees two of the goblins fall, steps back, and looses an arrow at Hovok.
Shortbow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
The arrow ricochets off of his armor harmlessly.

Lucifer, Neilman, then the rest of the party is up.
Lucifer Belthrue |
Annoyed that he got clipped by an arrow, Lucifer dashes into the room and makes his way around to get behind the goblin. He smiles behind the goblin and whispers, "Time to die." to it.
Double Move: 40'
Hovok Thunderforge |
Hovok takes a couple of steps forward before taking another swing at the last goblin.
Time to join your friends.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 1 + 1 = 16
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 4) + 6 = 14
Voldarus |
Pretty effective, though I wanted to ask about your first attack. I was assuming you were usong cleave, but uts my understanding is that to cleave the enemies need to be adjacent to each other ot just within reach. Am I wrong? I'm kinda a rules junky, sorry, but I'm sure that I'll mess up plenty.
Gimble, The Storyteller |
Hovok moves forward swinging his hammer and silences thelast goblin in the room. All is quiet.
Out of Initiative.
@Voldarus: Rereading Cleave, you're right. Thanks for the clarification. The enemies need to be adjacent. Since he could have used cleave against purple and green instead of purple and red, the overall result would have been the same. I've posted the cleave text below.
Hovok Thunderforge |
Well lets have a look around now that the buggers are down.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
After looking about the room if there is nothing else that draws Hovok's attention will take a look over his hammers to make sure they are still in good condition.
Sorry when I read that for some reason took it as adjacent or within reach and was using my longhammer that gives me reach and all my targets were valid in that sense. Will have to keep this in mind moving forward cause that will have been twice I misplayed that feat. Really think I was assuming the text was written with regular weapons in mind and that was why I overlooked the adjacent part of the text.
Voldarus |
It makes sense Im playing in another campaign with a half orc bloodrager/shaman who enlarges himself and uses a bec de Corbin and it's super fun to play, but reach and cleaving has been driving me nuts.
Voldarus lowers his bow now that the threat has been quickly dealt with.
"Bye the Gods you're a one man wreking crew, safe to say you'll be going down in goblin lore as a fierce enemy of their kind. Actually I doubt the little freaks pass down much oral history to thier kin."
He helps scour the room with little hope of finding anything useful.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Hovok Thunderforge |
'eh trying to give my hammer a name though "Goblin Smasher" isn't really goal...Hopefully will find some more worthy opponents to give 'er a name.
Think I may have found another option where I could have confused it...If I looked at the Mythic cleave it doesn't say anything about adjacent just within reach. While that may change how I want to play with this guy the 2d6 damage for the freaking longhammer is hard to put down at this rate.
Lucifer Belthrue |
Not having to bloody his blade with this skirmish, Lucifer starts to look around too. "I wonder if this place was looted before or perhaps the goblins have hoarded all the valuable stuff somewhere else."
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Gimble, The Storyteller |
As you search the room, Voldarus finds under one of the mattresses, the smelliest wheel of cheese he's ever seen.
Hovok, however, finds what looks like an arm to some kind of mechanical automaton. Lucifer thinks it might actually fetch a decent price to the right buyer.
Lucifer Belthrue |
"That arm is really strange. We should definitely get it appraised later."
Lucifer then moves to the next door, to the south east and listens for anything behind it like normal.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
After listening, he will warn of any sounds he hears before opening to door and moving into the next room.
Gimble, The Storyteller |
Lucifer, hearing nothing on the other side of the door, opens it to the next room:
This curving hall has been badly damaged, but there are intact doors to the west, east, and south, as well as a large double-door leading north to the core of the tower. The southwest corner of the room has collapsed in a mound of green glass rubble, but a tunnel runs through the debris, shored up with rough timbers.
There are no creatures in this room, nor anything of interest. The tunnel is a hidden back entrance leading outside.
Lucifer Belthrue |
Lucifer spotting nothing of interest in the room except the tunnel leading out of the spire. He moves to the eastern door, remembering there was a mechanical sound coming from this area from the kitchen-like room.
He motions to others that there might be something in the room beyond the door and waits for everyone to gather before opening the door to proceed onward.
Hovok Thunderforge |
Hovok moves into position to watch the doors to the east and south before motioning to Lucifer that he is ready to head into the next room.
Voldarus |
Voldarus lines up at the door, bow drawn and ready to shoot.
Gimble, The Storyteller |
Lucifer waits for everyone to get ready and opens the door:
This curving room is a good-sized kitchen, complete with decaying tables, cupboards, and bins. One newer table has what seems like a child’s laboratory set up, with broken cups standing in for beakers. A faint green glow emanates from crystals scattered throughout this room.
This room is illuminated enough to see.
Also in this room is a goblin and his automaton. The automaton is greenish in color. It looks like it's been pieced together from scraps including a pegleg and a human skeletal arm.
Lucifer: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

Lucifer Belthrue |
Not liking the look of the automaton and not sure if his attacks would be that effective against it, Lucifer decides to make his away around the automaton, putting his back against southern wall and besides one of the table.
Acrobatics (Avoid AoO): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Voldarus |
ehnh I should have held, leave the doorway open if you can
Gimble, The Storyteller |
Neilman casts a spell around the corner at the automaton as Jafit hides from view.
The goblin casts a spell as the construct moves toward Lucifer and attempts to swing, but the gears in its arm seem to slip and the arm gets stuck for a second.

Hovok Thunderforge |
Hovok moves forward into the room getting into position to hit either the construct or the goblin.
Eh hit the construct or the goblin...Don't think I want to trust the spells that little beastie wants to throw out.
Hovok takes a swing at the goblin then hoping to knock him out of the fight quickly so everyone can focus on the golem.
Attack (goblin): 1d20 + 1 + 6 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 + 6 + 1 - 1 = 26
Damage: 2d6 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 + 3 = 17
Performed power attack...Sadly they aren't adjacent so cant cleave them.
Lucifer Belthrue |
Just his luck, the construct decides to go after him. He bring his blade up and tries to do some damage to the thing. Thrusting his sword toward, hopefully, and weakened joint.
Short Sword vs Clanky: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Gimble, The Storyteller |
Hovok moves into the room, provoking an AoO. The automaton lashes out and hits the dwarf squarely in the back as He passes by. Hovok then swings his longhammer at the spellcasting goblin, who never saw the weapon coming, silencing the creature.
AoO @Hovok: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Lucifer goes to attack the construct, but is too distracted to be effective as pieces of the goblin shower the wayang from Hovok's longhammer following through the creature.
Voldarus, Jafit, Neilman, Bolvurn
Neilmin |
Neilmin pulls out a flask from his pocket and using his mage hand he dropped it on the goblin.
Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Alchemist fire: 1d6 ⇒ 4 goblin
I'm gonna burn you alive goblin
now sense I used mage hand to drop it on the goblin still need to make a attack roll correct? I did just in case.
Gimble, The Storyteller |
@Neilman: I like the creativity, but there's a couple flaws to your strategy.
1. The target must be a nonmagical unattended item, and it's not unattended.
2. It takes a move action to move the target object 15 feet. The goblin is more than 15 feet away and you are out of actions (moves action to retrieve splash weapon, standard to cast the spell).
3. Hovok killed the goblin.
You can go ahead and change your action, if you like.
Jafit |
The Ifrit scoots into the room and tries to distract the mechanical thing to give Hovok a better shot.
Aid Another (Hovok) Attack: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (2) - 4 = -2
But his tiny, charred hands slip on the shaft of the spear and instead of using the pointy end to threaten the thing, the butt bounces off the floor between his feet before Jafit gets hold of it properly again.
Voldarus |
Voldarus drops his bow as he moves in while drawing his club on the scary creature (provoking an AOO?)
He takes a swing at the beast trying to break it apart.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Gimble, The Storyteller |
Neilman conjures up an ice dagger as Jafit and Voldarus move in. Jafit attempts to distract the construct from Hovok's next attack, but the automaton pays no attention.
Voldarus, dropping his bow, and getting out his club takes a swing at the construct, but his club mearly deflects harmlessly off its metal exterior.
With several targets around it, Clanky attacks: 1-Lucifer, 2-Jafit, 3-Voldarus: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Slam@Voldarus: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

Jafit |
Focusing for a few seconds, Jafit lets a wave of passion and zeal for life itself flow out from him and through his companions, explicitly choosing to skip over the forms of the goblin and armor.
Selective Channel Positive Energy for Healing: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Woo-hoo! Everybody back on the dance floor!
I believe that's the second channel used since we entered the ground floor. This one was a little more effective, I think.
Voldarus |
A slam from the construct sends Voldarus reeling but as quickly as the new wounds open so too are they closed. He lets out an audible sigh as the healing energy reinvigorates him. "That be a good feelin and I thank ya for it, " he sees in appreciation but keeping his eye on the battle at hand.
Hovok Thunderforge |
I am assuming with reach I sadly don't get flanking with Lucifer in this case since I am not next to the golem.
Thanks Jafit and now just need a bite with some good ale after smashing this bucket of bolts.
So saying Hovok takes a swing at the construct with his "Goblin Smasher" I guess we will call it that for now until we get some better enemies to kill with it.
Attack: 1d20 + 1 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 6 = 12
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15
Sadly that isn't going to cut it.
Voldarus |
Voldarus takes a swing, hoping to imitate his dwarven counterpart.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Neilmin |
Neilmin move by jafit and sits himself in front of Hovok
I read somewhere that traveling through a friendly square is considered rough Terrain that correct?
Lucifer Belthrue |
With the goblin dead and then feeling the divine energy from his companion heal him, Lucifer's confidence in this battle rises and he looks to damage the construct's many joints. Waiting for an opening, he drives his short sword toward a perceived weakness of the construct.
Short Sword +Flank: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 2 = 23
