Zan will make sure to be the last one exiting the area and pulling back, keeping a rearguard for the group but hoping to avoid the monster.

Nakoma recognizes the statue's subject, but pays it little mind, as a quivering wall of goo appears before them. Taking Zan's advice, Nakoma takes a step back five foot step, sheathes her starknife and draws her shortbow.

The Urn Depository - Round 1 - concluded

19 Baldek
14 Zirelle
11 Nakoma
8 Zan
1 Creature

Reacting first, Baldek moves backwards as far as he can to give the others more room to maneuver, drawing out one of his javelins as he withdraws.

Zirelle unleashes a sheet of scorching flames that strikes the gel-like creature, searing it a bit. She then moves back a step or two.

Meanwhile, Nakoma steps backwards, sheathing her starknife and taking her shortbow out instead, ready to fire if the cube comes within sight.

Moving backwards out of the room, but trying to shield the others, Zan watches in horror as the cube surges forward, rolling with hard-to-believe speed until it is right next to him. A long pseudopod forms from the ooze, reaching out to strike Zan but the ranger is able to avoid the creature's gooey touch.

All the party is up again. You can move yourselves on the tactical map, if you chose to, but please use arrows to indicate movement path etc.

Plague House Map is view-only, at least for me.

DM:

Minor suggestion: if you use a Google Slides document instead of just a picture doc, you can put all of the maps in one document, just on a new slide. Only a thought; definitely not a demand or anything.

Zirelle reaches out to Zan, moving his head aside briefly as she spits past him at the cube. She then backs off past Baldek to give other people room to attack as well.

With her bow out Nakoma takes aim at the massive jiggly ooze... She scowls. It would be a hard shot with her companions and a doorway in the way.

Desna guide my course.

She lets the arrow fly.

Attack: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 3 - 4 = 13 Includes penalty for firing into melee.
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Then she backs up into the corner of the next room. Can't edit the document either. She'll move back three spaces to be behind Baldek, then up one space.

Zan slashes at the scimitar to drive back the dungeon denizen. After slashing he steps back hoping the confined space would hamper the oversized monster.

Changed the permissions on the document, my fault. LMK if its still an issue. Still a few more hours before Baldek is over the 24 hr rule where I will run him, so it may roll into tomorrow, before he and the creature act. Meantime, we will resolve your actions first.

The Urn Repository - Round 2

Zirelle leans over Zan's shoulders and spits a stream of acid at the cube, her draconic heritage on full display. The ray of acid hits the massive quivering cube easily enough, burning a small hole in the transparent mass. After spitting her acid, Zirelle retreats behind Baldek to give others a clearer line to attack.

Nakoma bites her lip as she determines how to fire around Zan in the crowded hallway, but taking a chance she aims high, over the ranger's head with the idea of hitting the large-sized cube. Her shot is not particularly well aimed, but it does strike the cube anyway, mainly due to its great size.

In addition to the melee penalty, you'll have a cover penalty from shooting around Zan, but even with that subtracted, still a hit.

With a skillful and powerful slice, Zan slices a chunk off the gelatinous cube, wounding it but not doing the significant damage he had hoped as most of the force of his blow was absorbed by the liquid creature.

Can't crit, flank, or do precision damage to oozes, sorry.

"Zan! I thought we were moving back!!?" shouts Baldek as he wants to throw a javelin, but hesitates, fearing to hit the ranger.

"I can't fire if you stand in the way!" he says as he draws a second javelin just to be ready.

"The Smith guide your hands friends! Let's smash this thing on His holy anvil!"

Draw javelin, cast Bless.

HP: -10/20, AC: 19, FF: 17, Touch: 12, Fort +4, Ref +5, Will +2, CMB +5, CMD: 17, Initiative +2, Perception +6 (+1 Vs Traps)

"Happy to, just buying ye time to pull back." Zan carefully pulls back in case the creature clammered through the corridor to strike at him.

Withdraw action.

The Urn Repository - Round 2 - concluded

With Zan still standing in his path, Baldek draws a second javelin and then, whispering a silent prayer to the Smith, he brings forth the blessings of Torag on the party, as they fight for their lives against the hungry, mindless cube.

The cube, sensing food, pours itself through the narrow doorway, squeezing forward to attack Zan once more, but its slam attack misses once again.

The party is up, remember we are trying to move in initiative order, so Zan's planned withdrawal, which I indicated with arrows on the map, has not happened, and will occur after Nakoma's action. If you wish to delay or ready so the path is clearer, you just have to state that. I will assume it in some places (like I did with Baldek's actions).

Baldek waits until San is out of the way and throws his ffirst javelin.

Finally realizing Zirelle is SPITTING at the enemy, Nakoma spares a glance behind her and raises an eyebrow in surprise. Then she returns her attention to the quivering ooze, clearly deciding she doesn't care who spits at what.

@ Zirelle - I love it!

The Urn Repository - Round 3 - concluded

The rest of the group waits for Zan to clear the hallway and the trapper happily obliges knowing his luck is running out on avoiding the cube much longer. He withdraws quickly to a spot out of line of sight.

Once Zan is clear, Zirelle spits more elemental acid at the ooze and over the head of Baldek, burning another small hole in it and creating a foul odor as it sizzles.

Nakoma fires her bow once she has a clear line, and her arrow strikes home, damaging the cube a little more.

Now with a clear path, Baldek hurls his first javelin at the translucent monster, and the light spear penetrates into the ooze, wounding it.

The single-minded gelatinous cube continues its slow, steady advance, squeezing itself into the 10' corridor, and moving more slowly as a result. It is not able to make an attack this round, but has closed the distance to the party.

Yeah, "breath weapon" would sound so much more adult, but, sadly, that isn't what this particular draconic ability is called. :)

Uh, against a squeezing ooze, 6 touch is good to hit. Here is your damage result. Let's just say you have a 95% likelihood of hitting...

The Urn Repository - Round 4 - continued

Cornered by the relentless gelatinous foe, Zan bears down, slicing into the jelly-like monster for all he's worth, and cutting off a good-sized hunk.

Again clearing the head of Baldek, Zirelle spews another stream of acid at the cube, sizzling more of it away.

Trying to stay clear of the cube, Nakoma fires her bow into its great girth, and then retreats down the unexplored corridor.

We'll see what Baldek can do before the ooze has a run at you once again.

Oh, wow. Thanks for rolling for me, and sorry for assuming.

"This is where we make our stand then! May Torag guide my arm!" shouts Baldek, happy to stop running around.

He lets his second javelin drop to the ground and draws his beloved hammer, pulls back, and swing with all his strength at the ooze, wondering how the hammer will react to it.

He then pulls back a bit.

The Urn Repository - Round 4 - concluded

With the blessings of Torag guiding him, Baldek chooses to stand fast rather than run more in the face of the deadly monster. He lets loose with a fierce smashing blow, which lands againt the gelatinous foe. All are surprised when the cube, quivers, makes a strangled gurgling sound and looses consistency, splashing to the floor in a gooey mess. That last blow ended the fight!

End of Combat

I was worried about this CR 3 creature and its rather deadly attacks and high HP (50) but you managed to outmaneuver it and continue to pour damage on. It's low AC (4 before squeezing) helped of course. Well done! No one even got hit! Will have a post-combat summary in Discussion soon.

As the group stands panting and recovering from the adrenaline-rush of combat, they see many coins and other metallic items in the mess that used to be the gel cube. Gathering them up, there is a steel scroll tube with a vellum scroll inside, a masterwork chain shirt, a falchion, a star rose quartz amulet, and coins totaling 20gp, 95sp, and 146cp.

You can appraise the scroll tube and the amulet. Only the scroll is magical. I will list the items on the Loot Tracker and the divide the coins on the cash tab. If you want to chose the armor, weapon or other just call out.

"Torag be praised! The Smith always helps those who act wisely. Firing from a distance at first served us well." roars Baldek as the ooze oozes away. "Look, lots of things were floating in it. I guess even its guts were transparent." he adds, helping to collect the loot.

"Whoever was living here did not come here. The ooze is proof enough."

Zirelle studies the amulet and confidently places its value at 75gp. The steel scroll tube is highly decorative and valuable even if empty. Her knowledge of such things is more limited, but estimates 40gp for it if sold.

The scroll is magical. Since Zirelle cannot easily read magic, she relies on her spell knowledge to determine the properties of the scroll.

Zirelle uses Prestidigitation to clean goop off of any weapons and objects (and shoes) that came into contact with the weird goopy cube thing, just in case it could do more damage.

After identifying the scroll, she places it back in the scroll case, and carries that and the amulet for now, until they have a chance to sell the items.

She tells the rest of the group about the staircase she spotted, and then proceeds to follow Nakoma further into the tunnels.

I moved the scroll to Zirelle's possession, since she's the only one who can use it without UMD check. What's next?

Baldek asks Zirelle to clean his hammer, mentioning how useful this incantation would be around the forge.

Once everyone is ready, he'll try to take second position in the group, but will likely end up last.

Moved Zan to the front

Moving forward in the narrow hallways, Zan leads the party around a few corners, but then the passage ends in a door. The door is not trapped, nor does it appear to be locked. When it appears safe, Zan opens the door carefully.

This once grand flagstone hall is filled wit statues of different celestial creatures in every corner. An old fire pit in the center of the room is bordered on all sides by moth-eaten bedrolls, while shovels, picks, and other digging equipment lie strewn about a shallow tunnel bored into the northeastern wall. The ceiling above the tunnel has collapsed, leaving a whole open to the sky above a pile of burnt rubble.

The pile of rubble leads upstairs but will take a Climb check to scale safely. The hole to the outside, is the same that Nakoma saw when you first made a circuit of the exterior of the Plague House.

Zan:
As the door opens you catch the flash of scurrying movement and the tell-tale squeak of rats in the area of the tunnel and rubble.

"Sneaky Iomedeans! Who would have thought they had such a network of tunnels! They would make fine Dwarves!" roars Baldek with his voice like steel on a plate when he sees the room, but the recent tunnel and Zan's warning make him drop his voice instantly, though no one can make the difference.

He watches carefully and waits, hammer and shield ready.

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Zan enters the room, while Baldek and the others watch from the doorway. The ranger bends down to a knew and examines the bedrolls. They are all empty, and made of poorly woven wool. A fine layer of dust covers them and its apparent they have not been used in some days, perhaps as long as a week. The firepit seems to have not been disturbed in about the same time. There are heavy boot tracks in the dust and dirt made by the excavation, that wander all over this room.

From above, I assume you are just checking out the campsite for now. If you move on to the rubble or excavation site, let me know.

I wonder where they were trying to dig to, or from, or ... trying to find.

"We need to find out where this leads..." Nakoma remarks, despite the obvious danger of trying to reopen a collapsed tunnel. "It could take some time, though. Let's finish searching the Plague House before we try our luck with the tunnel."

The dug tunnel only advances about 20' from what would've been the outer wall of the basement. There a pile of rubble totally blocks any further advance. The body of a humanoid lies buried in the rubble pile, headfirst. The body looks dead, and apparently has been fed on by small rodents in the meantime. A magical aura is present emanating from the body in the rubble.

As Zan moves through the scree from the cave-in, a pair of rats appear hissing at him aggressively. The rats are covered with rotting flesh, torn and matted fur, and have reddish blazing eyes. Its skin is semi=translucent skin showing discolored bones and muscles.

Know Religion DC 10:
These fearsome looking, yet tiny, creatures are Shadow Rats, a form of undead creature.

Know Religion DC 15:
Shadow rats can assume incorporeal form, which means that cannot be harmed by normal weapons, and magical weapons only do half-damage. Ghost=touch weapons are needed to harm incorporeal foes.

Know Religion DC 20:
Like their shadowy undead counterparts, shadow rats drain the strength of foes they touch in addition to any physical damage they do. Due to their translucent nature, they easily blend into shadows in dim or lower light, making them much harder to hit. They are also known to carry and spread disease.

You have the choice to back away and avoid an attack by these little fellows. If you choose to press the attack to see about the dead body, then roll initiative.

Nakoma touches her starknife, and prays to Desna over it, causing it to glow with a holy white light. Then she offers her prayers to Baldek's axe or whatever weapon you offer her, a weapon of Zan's and a weapon of Zirelle's if she wants. Each of the weapons glow just as brightly as the star knife.

Using the holy strike blessing on up to four weapons, which uses up all four blessings of hers for the day. Holy Strike makes each touched weapon glow brightly and deal an extra 1d6 points of damage against evil creatures for 1 minute. During this time, the weapon is treated as good for the purposes of overcoming damage reduction.

"There. Ready to destroy some undead?" she asks seriously.

Nakoma's ready to move into the tunnel and fight now.

If Nakoma's warning comes in time, then Zirelle backs off and offers her morningstar to be blessed.
