Wren. |
An observation about dwarf/elf relations: it seems like a common theme for elves and dwarves to have personality conflicts with one another. I think the dwarves of our group are fairly neutral in regard to Wren (even Kraygan, despite recent evidence, which is more an after effect of his first barbarian rage). I'm not sure if Wren holds a racial bias, but it is hard to tell because there are no other races in the group to interact with and those outside the group seem to have been treated similarly.
To this point let me mention that Wren is intended to be a typical old Golarion elf: condescending and haughty as a rule.
I don't really subscribe (and have been trying to actively avoid) the Tolkien elf/dwarf cliche, but realize that it might appear that way.
To be clear, Wren doesn't think he's better than dwarves...he thinks he's bettter than everyone. ;) More like Thranduil but across to all races...which I consider the baseline Golarion Elf per my reading on the matter. I could be wrong.

This is exactly what I thought.
I was actively trying to avoid the Tolkien cliché myself. Kraygan might poke fun at Wren occasionally, but I don't think he's doing it because Wren is an elf, but rather an odd person from his short and not slender or graceful point-of-view.
Jorgan Steelkeg |
Although it's more of a Peter-Jackson-cliche than a Tolkien cliche, but yeah, it's still a popular fallback.

Dear Dwarves--
Please take a looksee at the editable lootsheet. Let's sell some crap and get some coin, eh?
Please mark anything you want or want to keep by Sunday.
Love,
Wren

Kraygan drank the potion of cure light wounds.
Is there someone in Trunau known for appraising items and/or identifying magic potions/items? We have a couple inidentified objects (iron flask/wand?).
Kraygan agrees on most of the items suggested to be sold, though he wants the potion of shield of fairth and the silk rope. Once things are sold he has a few things he might purchase, but before we go crazy, what are the limitations on buying and selling in Trunau?
GM Tyranius |
Trunau is a small town with a purchase limit of 5k. Purchasing limit of 1k.
Jorgan Steelkeg |
I strongly suggest we pool our remaining moneys and buy a wand of cure light wounds first, then maybe a few useful potions/oils such as bless weapon, magic weapon, daylight, etc.

Out of character, I'm totally for this. +1
In character, assuming Wren lives, Wren has no reason to think he'll 'enjoying' the dwarves presence for any more than this, so pitching in for a wand now would be wrong. As things go along, he will gladly contribute.
Kraygan Steelkeg |
Wren has a good point. I think the dwarves can pool their own resources to buy a wand, and should Wren find himself in our company for an extended period of time, and benefitting from it often, then he can either choose to offer a donation - or not. In character, the dwarves probably wouldn't care either way (or at least Kraygan wouldn't), and out of character its a small thing to consider over the course of a campaign.
Regarding party treasure in general:
As a player I don't care if all loot is evenly split, but I realize it is in the nature of some characters to want (and sometimes demand) an equal share every time loot is gained. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I'm happy to do whatever. I've had PbPs who #1) split evenly no matter who has taken what and others that have a #2) pro-rated split, rounded by what is claimed.
I'm too lazy to personally do the math for option #2. But would happily do it if someone else wants to keep track.
* * * *
Just waiting for Torgan to chime in on the loot, then we can sell everything marked with a ? or a Y that hasn't been used.
Kraygan Steelkeg |
I made a couple edits to the loot sheet. Kraygan is holding on to one of the holy waters, the potion of shield of faith, the silk rope, and both universal solvents - they are cheap, and if we come across something that has been sovereign glued, they are one of the only options available to unstick it.
Also, it appears we (or someone) identified a few items. The only mystery is that iron flask. Is it magical or does it contain some sort of poison or potion?
@Wren: regarding option #2 (the pro-rated split). I'm not sure what you mean by this.
Something I suggested in a home-game I run is that all gold (including liquidated gems and art) is split evenly, and players "buy" found items found at 1/2 cost. If you don't have enough to buy it you can go into debt if the other players are ok with that. Everyone keeps a tally of how much they have (counting items at 1/2 cost), so the group knows how the treasure is being divided. Those with the lowest value are usually offered first option to buy from new loot.
I should also note that it's a good idea to have a slush fund for party consumables, like curing potions, scrolls, wands, and maybe raise dead, but as Wren pointed out, we aren't quite a "party" yet.
Jorgan Steelkeg |
As long as no one is too greedy (and I don't think we have to worry about anyone here), I'm a fan of the big-party-pot system. Request something and the party decides what is needed first. That's the way we've always done it in my RL games and our group is good about it. They actually had to force the flame oracle to buy something at one point because she always felt the money was better spent upgrading everyone else's stuff than buying her own gear, haha. Although she was kind of right that casters can (in general) get by with less gear imo.
Torgan Steelkeg |
Support big party pot!
Everything looks fine, but we don't want to keep the Campfire Bead?
Jorgan Steelkeg |
"Aye. To the wall."
Jorgan, I think the wand Wren brought is the one we found on the orc body in the collapsed tunnel. According to our loot sheet it only has 8 charges - which is why I think we should visit the local cleric for healing before using it (either that or make sure we can actually buy a full wand of cure light wounds in town). Visiting the local cleric might also give us the opportunity to get Vanderhoff cured of his disease and heal his ability damage with lesser restoration.
Oh, sorry. I thought we agreed to sell some stuff and the dwarves would buy a full wand. I thought that happened already but maybe we just talked about it. We'll stop at the temple and pick one up on the way then.
Also, I agree with Torgan about keeping the campfire bead. Neat item worth having.
Kraygan Steelkeg |
If we can hit up a temple and store on route, I think we should buy a few things.
Wand of cure light wounds
A potion or two of cure light wounds (for those rare times when the casters are all bleeding out it is up to Kraygan to heal someone)
Oils of magic weapon
Kraygan specifically wants:
A buckler
2 potions of enlarge person
2 potions of cure light wounds
Oil of magic weapon
@GM: is it possible to put more than 1 potion of cure light wounds into a flask/jug/etc? Kraygan has a barbarian rage ability to drink potions or ale as a movement action, but having to get out multiple potions (each a movement action) makes it a tough ability to use effectively.
Jorgan Steelkeg |
@Kraygan: Round 1: hit someone and take out potion, Round 2: drink potion and hit someone.
It's never too early to pick up a few oils of bless weapon too. But magic weapon is also a good idea. Once we get a little bit more cash an oil of daylight is essential too.
Wren. |
Here, busy work days, and just haven't had much to add.
From my experience, it's better to post a nothingburger or empty push post than nothing at all. At least a nothingburger post connotes interest and involvement.
"Vanderhoff finishes his drink and has nothing to add."
"Jorgan doesn't quite hear over the sound of his own flatulence and has nothing to add."
Did you guys wish to sell the items for 1745 gp? And if so do you wish to purchase anything?
Wren wants nothing but a cut of the loot.
Kraygan Steelkeg |
I felt like Kraygan was bulling his way through the investigation and didn't want to get too far ahead without the others. Since I was pretty busy the last few days myself, I figured I'd hold off to give the others a chance to post when they could.
I have a little more time now, so I'll be jumping back into the swing of things.
Regarding loot: I'll buy what I listed before.
buckler
2 potions of enlarge person
2 potions of cure light wounds
Oil of magic weapon
I'm assuming we're spending 750 on a wand of cure light wounds as well.
GM Tyranius |
Ok just subtract it from the totals.
Torgan Steelkeg |
Torgan don't abide by religious zealots who try to form lynch mobs.
GM Tyranius |
Join the dark side and together we can rule Golarion.
Vanderhoff Steelkeg |
@Wren: Your "catchphrase" has now become a part of my vocabulary. We got a new puppy yesterday and I find myself cleaning up "piddlespots" and telling him NO "piddlespots"!
Vanderhoff Steelkeg |
Nice!
Do you guys get your cat carriers from C. Specialties?
On the puppy note. He was a rescue. We now have three dogs, two cats (two dogs and one cat are rescues), and three daughters, hence my sometimes sparse posting. i.e. falling asleep in the chair before 9:00p....

Updated the Loot List with the sale of the goods and the purchases.
Added in the leftover gold to each person's personal gold #.
Kraygan Steelkeg |
Thanks for updating the Loot List. I have a couple questions:
For the potion of CLW x2 and Potions of magic weapon. They are listed as Book 1 Thread Post 524, but that post doesn't match any found items. Are those items purchased? I'm trying to figure out if you deducted gold from party treasure for the potions Kraygan bought for himself (he also bought 2 potions of enlarge person).
Torgan Steelkeg |
They were purchased from the pot and were listed by you two posts ago. This is above and beyond what you may want to purchase, which I would assume comes out of your personal stash?
If we can hit up a temple and store on route, I think we should buy a few things.
Wand of cure light wounds
A potion or two of cure light wounds (for those rare times when the casters are all bleeding out it is up to Kraygan to heal someone)
Oils of magic weapon
I 'bought' two of each potion cause two seemed like a good number. Post 524 is where Tyr asks if we are selling and buying. Thus, the sale and the procurement of a fresh wand and some pots.
Does this make sense or does it only make sense in my head?
Kraygan Steelkeg |
That makes sense, though the posts must be numbered differently for me because I don't see the same question from Tyr.
Anyway, all good here. Since we bought a couple community oils of magic weapon Kraygan will abstain from buying another with personal funds. I will get the other things (a buckler, 2 potions of CLW and 2 of enlarge person) and deduct from personal gold.

In his haste he forgot to hold his breath though and you hear him coughing and wheezing from just inside the doorway.
Quick rules clarification, GM Tyranius:
In theory, by holding ones breath, they should be immune to the saves/smoke until their air runs out. Is there something specific about this encounter that runs counter to that understanding?
It will matter to Wrens decision.
GM Tyranius |
That is correct. You can hold breath for 2 rounds per point of CON. Each standard or full action reduces the amount by one round to which you need to start breathing again.
Jorgan Steelkeg |
Cool. Jorgan obviously would have held his breath when he ran in then, if that's ok.
Kraygan Steelkeg |
We have a second wand of cure light wounds we found in the Plague House, right? How about we just have him use that on someone?
Nevermind.
Ninja'd!!
GM Tyranius |
Yes just giving a last chance before I get off work since I am unable to post anything legible from work pc
GM Tyranius |
Just made a Reporting tool for PBP. Testing it to see if it works correctly or if I am missing anything obvious from it.
Jorgan Steelkeg |
That's a cool idea. I may steal it. I also usually ask for initiative and perception scores at the beginning of the game so I can make blocks of dice rollers text. And maybe level for APL and out-of-tier gold purposes?
GM Tyranius |
Just added them. Knew I was forgetting something. Throws it all right into a spreadsheet for you and everything.
Wren. |
Combat Over. Boom Level 3! Time to upgrade!
Can you clarify what this means in terms of the current situation and resting, GM Tyranius?
Would casters just their full spells back? Or just new abilities that might not need prayer/memorizing?
Either way, I should have Wren updated later tonight.
Torgan Steelkeg |
I updated and added the HP for the new level, but left the damage that he had still sustained. Otherwise, since I have no spells or abilities, Wren's questions doesn't affect me. :(
GM Tyranius |
Go ahead and get your new abilities/spells. Though the slots you have used today are not refreshed until you rest, if that makes sense.
Kraygan Steelkeg |
+8 hp
Skills:
+1 handle animal
+1 ride
Feats:
endurance (class bonus)
die hard (class bonus)
power attack (level bonus)
Kraygan Steelkeg |
@GM: I realized that Kraygan's yak might be an illegal mount. Since there are no "yaks" among animal companions I thought it might be ok, but I wanted to make sure it's not a problem with you. I don't think he's any more powerful then a horse - and less powerful then a camel, which is the other large companion available at 1st level in the official Pathfinder material.
Vanderhoff Steelkeg |
Van is leveled. For his free teamwork feat, I took Ferocious Loyalty.
You have a powerful sense of responsibility for your allies.
Benefit: You gain a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls against any foe that currently threatens an ally who also has this feat. Whenever an ally with this feat is rendered helpless or killed within 30 feet of you, you gain a +2 morale bonus on attack rolls for 1 minute or until the foe responsible is rendered helpless or killed, whichever comes first.
Perception increased to +3
Jorgan Steelkeg |
Ok, might have to look into getting that one for Jorgan and Hops in the future. They now have Outflank and Precise Strike.
