The smoke will rise to the top of the cavern and dissipate, we will need to be careful, but it's not like it will be uncontrolled.

An excellent point Benny, we may need them to spend time practicing moving in sync so as to go unnoticed.Retrain a feat into stealth synergy

"While I do agree with the idea Rose has with beginning a smithy, I don't agree with the idea of spreading our numbers out so readily. Sending out scouting parties to the dangerous far corners to explore the caves is too unpredictable. If our hunting parties were to run into something monstrous and be unable to defeat it and it followed them back to us..." Jalel let the implications hang in the air.

"I think we should be more focused on building up our immediate area. The idea of a wall would certainly take a fair amount of time to implement, but it would be a benefit to the defense of us all. I also think we should begin work on starting our gardens."

I already stated the priority belongs first to smithing and farming. It will be very difficult to farm without proper tools, though my recipe will increase the growth speed. And I said an exploration party, not many, and not until we have some kind of defenses in place. And please remember your only solid plan was farming.

Rose gestures to the goblin.

Benny put forth a better plan than you. No offense meant Benny. I quite liked your stance.

The human candidate siding with the goblin. And besides Benny's military thoughts I see no major differences between Rose and Benny's stances. In Fact you two seem to be agreeing more often than not. Just my two cents. Aside from the fact that Benny sees more of a chance that the mists would be gone.

Addressing all three candidates:

So I keep hearing talk about how we will put people to work in the best positions for them, and that works now because most of the elderly and unwell have, and do, die of disease or age. At some point, presumably, the ill and the elderly will not be dying off like flies. What happens when that's no longer the case?

How will we continue to address the needs of our society and of those who are unable to take care of themselves or unable to contribute to the group?

What about those who are unwilling to get behind your ideas?

Grand Lodge

Female Human Rose: Arcane Assassin | HP 29/32 | Init +4 | AC: 16 (Tch 14, Fl 12) | F: 2 R: 8 W: 1 | Perc +7. SM: +4 | Active conditions: None |

Rose moves forward playing to the crowd as best she can. Thank you, I will speak honestly, the problem with the elderly is not something I had considered, but every person of able body and sound mind CAN contribute. Their bodies may be old, but if their minds are still sharp they can teach, they can advise, but for those whose minds have betrayed them, I just don't know. We'll need to figure something to do with them, and I am willing to listen to any ideas anyone has.

As for those unwilling to get behind our ideas, well that's the point of the elections isn't it? Just because we love the duke's foresight that saved us all, doesn't mean those who came before us agreed with his actions. How much food and goods did he take from the people to stock this cave to save us, I don't know. Maybe he paid for all of it out of his own riches. But the point of electing a leader by popular vote is to give the people a choice, and to unify us under one banner.

After this day they are subject to the rules of the leader, whether they like it or not. They will have had their say, and if they don't like the outcome, they are free to leave, though I beg any person who considers that course of action to think very carefully, we need every able bodied man woman and child if we are to survive and they are not likely to survive on their own.

Male Fetchling (Kayal) Sorcerer Level 5, HP: 33/33, Init: +2, Fort+2 (+2 vs. Poison/Sleep) /Ref +3/Will+4, Bab.+2, CMD:15,

Jalel waited for Rose to finish speaking before he stepped forward and held out a hand to Lershoth.

"In your scenario, presumably, we will have a fair number more and healthier workers. This is able to increase the likelihood of the sick recovering from their illness and returning to their positions. We will no longer be at a critical juncture with how many numbers we have. With healthier and stronger workers, our output of work and production should have increased to the point where we can last until they get better and rejoin their station.

Rose's words do indeed carry well thought meaning and intention behind them. But let us be understanding and willing to look at the truth of the matter. If someone's body and mind were to wither away, and the only thing that was to be left was a waning form... barring some higher form of restorative magic, they would have to be removed.

As for those who are unwilling to listen to the new Duke's ideas, more than likely, they have not been... properly convinced of why they should be listening to their new leader."

Rose looks over at Jalel and whispers. If you want the job you may wish to amend that statement to something less... ominous.

Jalel raised an eyebrow. "Now you're making it sound as though you don't actually want to win. he whispered back.

With a flourish he turned back to address the crowd.

"The time for your decision will be at hand momentarily. Though it may take but a moment, your choice will likely have far reaching consequences. Think over what we three candidates have said, carefully. Know that your decisions will be upheld by all, for whichever path you are to choose! Our fate is directly intertwined with each others, choose well."

And do not forget that regardless of which of us you choose, we all share one top priority, feeding you! That we may all survive. Rose whispers again. If you want one of us to win why not simply withdraw and openly support your chosen candidate?

But before Jalel can respond to Rose, the bell sounds *DING DING* bringing the debates to an end. The man with the small mallet then calls "Alright everyone, it is time to cast your vote. Grab a strip of parchment write the name of your chosen candidate, then put it in the bucket there." He points with his small mallet to a simple wood bucket sitting on the front of the stage." Tagolan will sit down, and run an inventory of his gear. Once he has finished that, he will place everything back meticulously, and made sure he was set for whatever work he needed to do. Then he went into the crowd looking for a few cooks.

Well so far for jobs I have being a hunter, and aid in making a map. I should find a few cooks and see if I can make deals with the meat and stuff I bring in. Perhaps get an apprenticeship, or a cooking set to learn on my own.

Unfortunately Tagolan, all the cooks all seem so busy making food for the impromptu party, that none will even give you the time of day.

Yes. Unless we have someone who can make a map. But Talirin and I should be able to get plenty of food. If you could gather a few cooks, and make deals. Start the economy with food.

Alright Talirin. When we get out there, there is something you should know, my fellow hunter. Tagolan smiled.

But seriously Rose, we could start the economy up with this hunting. See if you can find cooks, that is probably a good set up. I know I shouldn't be telling you this, but it is just an idea. Also if you can find a good map maker, I could use my second flint to mark up our path while hunting. We could bring them down later to make a good map.

...please grab some samples if you could. It's not a big deal if you don't see any but it never hurts to replenish your lab supplies when you can.

Turning to address Rose
Though I'm doubtful if the best thing for you to be doing on your first night as the new Duchess as going out for a hunt, I'm sure several people would love to ask you questions. But either way, congratulations on the election, I look forward to seeing how things progress from here on out.

Turning back to the group at large. If you need me, or find anything off of that list, I'll be in my lab.

He gives you all a once over, Furthermore, you will likely get us all killed.
I am not saying you shouldn't come...but Rodia, why don't you hang back with Rose while Tagolan and I scout about 75 feet ahead. That way our new leader has some added protection and that chain shirt you are wearing doesn't alert every predator for 500 feet that we are coming. Fair enough?

M Catfolk Swashbuckler 4 | AC:18 | HP: 46 | Init:+6 | Perc:+9 | Fort:+2 Refl:+10 Will:+2

Of course our best bet is to use you as bait and spring a trap on whatever creature comes to kill you.

I fear you'd find using me as bait rather boring, you'd just be picking up the bodies I left. But your first one was a good point, if I stayed ahead with you I'd alert every predator in the caverns of our location. I will stay back, just don't kill anything without me.
Rodia returns the grin.

Current options include:

•Hunting/Foraging for food: Primarily Survival will be used here.
Cost one in game day. Unless you beat perception roll of 15 and survival roll of 16. Then it will only cost half in game day.

•Gathering information: about the world or city around you. Perception/diplomacy can be useful here. time spent a day unless beat DC of 17 in Perception or diplomacy.

•Entertainment: Perform/Profession/acrobatics/K. history or some other applicable skill you can think of right now.

•Scouting: Stealth, Knowledge Geography and Survival to gain a better layout of your current surroundings and what dangers may lie ahead. Cost one in game day unless beat DC score of 15 in at least 2 of the three necessary skills named above.

•Training: Of soldiers, alchemists, mages and so forth. you will spend 1 in game day on this. If you stop early the ones you were training will make no progress that day unless leave another trainer behind.

•Crafting/Repairing: Build/repair buildings/items. time spent on this depends on the building or item and how many workers you have. Currently you have 35 builders. The stone wall would take two in game weeks.

•Treating Wounds/diseases: People are hurt or sick in various ways. Help everyone out. time spent depends on how many need help. You can just focus on a select few if you wish.

•Downtime/Resting up: Relax, work on some personal tasks, check your inventory to find those strange forgotten items you nearly forgot you had, read or write if your literate, take a break and let your wounds heal. Time spent is up to you.

•Resource gathering: Collect stone, mine for minerals. Perception, skills in mining. Options will expand as you find new areas. Time spent 1 in game day unless beat DC 16 in Perception or Mining. Then only half a day.

•Build Points: Every time you want to build something it will cost Build Points or BP Each thing you build has a different cost. You can increase your BP by gathering resources. Currently have 2 in stone, 1 in wood 0 in metal. 2 in stone is enough to build the wall.

•Food Points: Food Points or FP, As you may have guessed showed your food stock and tells how many days you can feed your citizens. Currently have 2.

•Population: Population a higher Population can help bring in more goods and currency, along with potential soldiers, ect...Current Population is 105.

survival: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 Well there goes a twenty. +1 for track if that can be added.
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 it has to balance out

During the hunt, Tagolan decided to not use his bow, showing his claws to his fellow hunters. He moved through the tunnels like it was a simple walk from his own area to the main colony.

The dutchess came out hunting. I have a new level of respect for her.

So what happens with the twenty?

I put up the system so the PCs can play without waiting on me, for the most part I will mostly be needed in battles of course.(Though I won't ignore you. And I have story stuff and NPCs to play out.) If you beat the score you don't need me to tell you if things worked out. Also currently in the caves it would take 5 days of successful hunting from at least 2 of the PCs to increase your FP by 1 point. Twice the time for a solo hunter. and half that with more than 2.
Resource gathering would be 8 days to increase BP by 1 point. Twice the time for a solo gatherer. Half for more than 2.
You can shorten that if are able to roll well and go out twice in a day.

I also forgot to say that a 2 FP equals 1 week of food for the whole population.
