Velden Lansell |
Not an excellent fight, a TPK. We have no way to fight a swarm at the moment. Nobody has AoE attacks, and no alchemical items. With no way to damage them, they'd just eat us alive. Seriously, due to character losses, we are down to Velden (archer with no attack spells), Annara (rogue/psychic again, no attack AoEs) and Avizzi (rogue with no AoE ability). Total TPK.
Velden rubs the back of his head. "Aannara, when you find Avizzi, let's decide if we want to swim with electric eels or kill mutant frogs."
Aannra._Blake |
Annar gets to Avizzi and try's to top stop him with a trip.
CDM1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33 Trip from behind
Aannra._Blake |
After she slows Avizzi and explains there are bats not fire she says.
We need to head back,
"I think we can take the bats and pull them to the Frogs, that will be funny. Let them fight each other."
GM Wolf |
Sorry, going with the plan of the module... then again I know you have certain items and possible allies that you could use.
The group gets together once more after all the scares. The door is securely shut and no threats can be seen but many can be heard.
A rhythmic tapping seems to be coming from the entrance.
Velden Lansell |
Unfortunately, we the players don't know what the NPCs have on them, plus they've been out of picture for so long, it feels like a cheat to bring them in
Velden looks around at the tapping. "By the prickling of my thumbs, something a tapping this way comes." He raises an eyebrow. "Anyone want to bet on whether it's a mischievous pit fiend, or a pygmy Terrasque who's hungry?"
GM Wolf |
In a whispery voice all of you hear as if someone is whispering down your neck, "How about a hungry scag that hasn't seen its prey yet."
The bats seem to settle down all of a sudden.
Aannra._Blake |
"Really you think so Velden?"
she says believing him.
Avizzi the Strange |
When Aannra catches up with him, Avizzi spins around with a wild look, but blinks a few times and looks down at himself. "What... I was... the f*ck?" Then he seems to realize what happened and shakes his head. "Stupid gods damn illusions..."
At the tapping, Avizzi pauses to listen, wishing the others would be quiet, and then he spins around with knives in hand at the voice.
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21
"...Shiiiiiiit..." He whispers as he turns back to face the door with the bats. "Big f*cker coming our way."
Velden Lansell |
Taking 10 on perception, not in combat
Velden looks up, and sighs. "Well, it's possible, but neither of those sound like that. It's coming from the stairs, something's either gotten behind us, or one of the greenhorns or the old man enjoys tricks. Honestly, I'm tired of this, so I'm going to go kick the ass of whoever it is."
Velden goes to the bottom of the stairwell, bow drawn and arrow knocked.
Five Arelian |
At the bottom of the stair is Five with Jellena and the big cat humanoid.
"Playing with some ghosts are we?" He asks plainly, standing up and stopping the tapping. "I thought that might get your attention."
Aannra._Blake |
Annara stops and looks at there other replicant, she puts her gun away.
"Hello again"
Five Arelian |
"Hello Aannra, any new news on the vault? Problems with this deathtrap?" Five says a little amused.
"I am sorry, I did not know it would this bad, considering the town sending greenhorns down here. Anything I can do to help? I have a healer and muscle if you need them, let alone my spells." He seems to get down to business, discarding the jovial emotion.
Aannra._Blake |
"well there is a small army outside and we have some young adults in here, our idea as to find the back door out of here, but there seems to be a lot of things in our way and lots of traps. So if you could help us remove the dangers we can get the young ones out"
She says this matter of factly.
Velden Lansell |
Velden keeps the bow out, and an arrow knocked. "Odd that you don't know about the downed bots or traps, or the greenhorns up top, since you should have had to go past all of them to get here. Plus the snake girl should have told you about them too." Veldan says, with a good deal of suspicious in his voice. "I'd be mighty interested to know how you got past all that without noticing it..."
Avizzi the Strange |
Avizzi also walks up, knives still casually held in his hands. "I'm sorry, this is--" He then recognizes the face. "Ah, you're the assh*le responsible for bringing me in here. Hope you realize how much it's gonna cost you."
Aannra._Blake |
Looks from Velden to and back again Avizzi with a puzzled look.
The her eyes go wide and in one move she pulls her gun again.
Jellena Darkling |
She looks like she doesn't like Velden even more and cocks her head to the side.
Five Arelian |
Five just lets them talk and get out with whatever they were going to say. Then he simply responds, "Done."
He gives them a few moments to get their words in if they want before continuing. "I told you I would be following along shortly. Controlling electronics is kinda my thing. The turrets are all operational and has us all marked as personnel. Even you Avizzi. But what I was asking about is down here obviously. If you want I will just head back upstairs, oh that's right your 'friend', Alec I believe, locked us all in here."
Then to Avizzi, "A lot less if you kill me."
Dryly he makes his last comment, "Oh, yes one more word, 'Bazizz'"
He just waits for another outburst.
Up probably half the way is a blast door that has closed off the stairwell. Likely a foot thick at least.
Avizzi the Strange |
Avizzi cocks his head to the side and then barks his raspy laugh. "Heh, I don't make a point of killing my employers. In fact, I do my best to keep 'em alive so they can hand over my gold."
The murder of Avizzi's last client notwithstanding.
With that the scarred man sheathes his knives and tosses a wink at Jellena. "Good to see you again, sweetheart. No hard feelings about the snake, huh? Thing did try to off me, after all."
Velden Lansell |
Velden shrugs. "Last time I checked, I hadn't sworn any oaths of loyalty to anyone. Only accepted a job to escort some people. And as to locking the door, I'd be upset if he hadn't. Lot of nasty stuff down here, and a bunch of greenhorns up there." He eyes Five suspiciously. "I'll ask it again, since you didn't seem to get the hint. I'm curious how you made it in from outside. Saw you talking to Huc earlier. And little Miss Asp there took off because she likes the snake better than anyone else. So not seeing why I should show her any loyalty at all. Now, why are you here. As to the dragon, what about him? Last I saw him, he was with Bishnu." Velden spits on the ground. "Let's you try speaking plain old english, instead of all these damn elf half-questions and riddles. If I feel like dealing with elven enigmatism I'll give mommy a call. And you ain't my mommy."
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Velden is obviously beginning to feel like he's being jerked around and treated like a rat in a maze, and he's just as obviously beginning to get fed up with it. He's also not making any attempt to hide it.
Aannra._Blake |
Aannra looks at all of them now looking very confused.
Then thinks of something. She says
"Can we walk and talk? I think we really need to get moving and get out of here."
Velden Lansell |
Velden nods. "Sure, where do you want to walk? Into the room with the flesh eating bats, down the hall with the electric eels in four feet of water? Or up the stairs with the sealed tomb door?"
Aannra._Blake |
"Bats
Five Arelian |
"Sorry its an old habit of mine in talking in riddles. First off Bazizz is one of my old rivals, he enjoys staying in psuedo dragon form but is actually a huge demon, or half demon. He usually makes trouble where ever he goes.
Bats you say, do you want a fireball or lightning bolt?
I hacked into the turret systems, turned their protocols to slaughter the marines, then loaders. Used some electricity attacks to fry the loaders' systems to go haywire. Loaded my personal files in to be safe, and walked in the front doors. Said Hi to Huc and told him to stay there. Jellena directed me down here through the trap room."
*Shows some holes and slices in his clothing, with some of his blood.*
"Greeted the greenhorns and the reserves protecting them and Alec Faust. Then here I am wondering how to help my Vault Hunters, its up to you how you interpret our relationship and agreement, I keep it loose because that is normally how Vault Hunters like it. This door?"
"Me, I am here to investigate this Vault. Likely the Everburning flame which is its core and whatever it protects."
Jellena Darkling |
Jellena nods and a small smile shows up on her face at Avizzi's comment towards her, she then follows the group and sidles up to Avizzi as they walk towards the bats, she whispers to him, "Oh sorry I didn't know that, I was out cold for that fight, I am upset with each of you for basically not healing me. Then snapping at me once I had recovered."
Aannra._Blake |
"lightning bolt would be best, Avizzi doesn't like fire, so are all the bad men outside the vault dead now"
Avizzi the Strange |
Avizzi nods. "Yeah, okay. Sorry about the healing, too, weren't sure what was up, wondered if it was, uh, 'that time of the month.'" He clears his throat and blinks. "Not sure if reppies and mechs even get that... Whatever." He shoots Aannra a quick, sharp stare when she mentions his dislike of fire, but doesn't say anything for once.
Velden Lansell |
Perception: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (13) + 18 = 31
Velden gives Five a thorough lookover, and then nods. "Better." He puts the arrow back in his quiver. As they walk toward the door, he tilts his head as Jellena whispers. "At the time, I had no way of healing anyone." He pauses, reconsidering. "Well, I had no ability to heal one with your philosophical mindset. Expecting me to heal someone without the ability isn't logical." Once at the door where the bats are, Velden nods, preparing to re-open it. "Whenever you're ready."
Aannra._Blake |
Annara smiles, and skips over to the door,
"Time to zap"
Jellena Darkling |
She shakes her head thinking, 'I can't believe that these fools are vault hunters.'
She quietly says to the group, "Well you might want to have a few ways to heal the healer just in case that person drops. No I guess it is not logical, but it is senseless or illogical to not have a way to heal yourself let alone others."
Five Arelian |
Five nods his head at the door, "Open it."
With the door being opened Five unleashes a stream of electricity from his hand, shooting it through the door and grimacing. "Thalda bats, they can collect into a larger form!"
5d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 6, 2, 4) = 22 Ref DC 20 for half.
GM Wolf |
With the door being opened the lighting arcs into the room, blasting many of the swarming bats that seem to be active but silent. The large tripod creature moves quickly towards the group, its head that of a bat but the size of a normal humans, six wings help keep it aloft, on top of the three legs.
It takes the blast fully and looks charred over much of its body.

Velden Lansell |
Velden shrugs. "Well, miss priss. Last time I checked, I don't have control over other people deciding not to continue into the ruins. I suggest if you want to have better supply chains, you take it up with your boss, or else join the military." He readies to fire his bow after the door is opened. "Until then, you might want to consider that your inability to stay out of the line of fire is not my responsibility. Perhaps if you were a better person, I could have healed you. But since you're a stuck up selfish b#@~$ who's only out for herself, you got no room to complain about me not being able to heal your selfish worthless ass."

Jack Iwamatsu |
If I had a chance to buff up before the door opened I would have done so, won't change this turn however:
Jack takes a step forward so that he isn't catching anyone in the ensuing blast and helps Five begin clearing the swarms. He brings his sword up and it lights up with psionic magic, he reels back and sends an arc of crystals towards the bat swarm and the flying creature.
Edit: Sorry no saving throw.
damage: 3d4 ⇒ (4, 3, 1) = 8 Not a great spell but it's a backup AOE spell for now.

*10 Bat swarm
*8 Velden
8 Avizzi
7 Five
4 Bat Beast
Between Five and Jack, the bat swarm disperses, leaving the abberation in their wake. The sound of flying and now dieing bats can be heard as the sound comes back in a blast.
Fortitude Save DC 15 or be shakened for 1d4+1 rounds, if Natural one on the save you are deafened.
Two arrows from Velden find their mark as several dying bats fall to the ground from the large form with each arrow.
Jack would you like to move into the room more, or back behind Five? You can still do a move action if you choose.
Jack Iwamatsu |
Just noticed the map, will move in further. Can you put me back on active players so I can see new posts? Cheers.
Changing my size morph into +Con morph for the moment as it looks like some very tight corridors. Unless people don't mind me basically being a wall and let me take all the damage.

Velden grabs his ear with both hands, holding the bow with one hand. He let's out a steady stream of curses in multiple languages, many languages he doesn't even speak, just knows the best curse words of. His highly sensitive ears, that usually alert him to danger, are now ringing after the high pitched squeals.

Round 1
Fort Save: 1d20 ⇒ 7 vs. DC 15
Five seems to be doing the same as Velden grabbing his ears and wincing in pain. He then collects himself for a spell before stepping back to collect himself further.
After a few strange words and a flick of his hand, arcane blasts of white force leave his hand slamming into the aberration of bats. 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (2, 4, 2) + 3 = 11
Will Save: 1d20 ⇒ 10 vs. DC 15
Once collected he follows the group into the next room with the reflection pool. He sees his reflection in the pool and looks away in disgust. "Another corruption, no doubt." He says with anger in his voice.

Round 1
By the onslaught that the group put out the creature drops to the ground in a pile of dead bats, many crawling away, and some flying.
End of Combat
Will Save DC 15, Anyone entering this room cannot help but catch a glimpse of himself in the reflecting pool. Those who gaze into the pool see a horrid, rotting reflection that slowly turns to murder the others in the room. Those who make their saving throws against this trap are immune to its effects for 24 hours. Those who fail their save flee, screaming, toward the entrance of the dungeon.
If you have been affected by this, not saved from the Will save, you will need to make another save.
Feel free to take creative license to describe your fleeing if you fail. If you want I can describe it to the group, just PM me.

she made this befor but I'll roll again, will save 15 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Aanna is not affected by the high pitched sound, her replicant ears filtering it out.
Shen then skips into the room, looking into the pool. She giggles,
"That's a funny display screen, it's showing me killing all of you, silly things broken"
Then the pool forgotten she looks around the room for more dangers.
Sometimes her nieevity works in her favor.

Damn.
Avizzi takes a step into the room, shakes his head, and steps back out. "Nopenopenopethat'sfire" he comments rapidly before turning and hightailing it.
Of course, others could be prepared to stop him, knowing how he felt last time... It is weird to me that this illusion continues to affect people who found out it's an illusion, though.
Velden Lansell |
Perception: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (16) + 20 = 36 Took Vault Hunter campaign trait, also, my understanding is that since Velden made his will save, he doesn't have to make another
Velden looks around the room once his ears stop ringing. "Door on the western wall, loose stone next to it, probably the method of opening it, or at least something to do with the door." He double checks the rest of room before going over to the rock. He makes sure there's no trap, then moves the rock, finding some glowing writing. "Anyone read glowy blue scribble?"
Aannra._Blake |
Runs after Avizzi once more, shifts in front of him and stops him getting to for.
"Its all right Avizzi, its just a broken tri-screen"
GM Wolf |
You don't think its an illusion, though if someone tells you that it is it gives you a +2 on the save. Even with that Avizzi you fail.
Correct Velden and Aannra are safe from the illusion, just like Five is now as well. Now to see if Avizzi will be able to over come it a third time... and the others.
Jack Will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 vs. DC 15. Jack seems to be phased by the image that he sees in the water and just stands there frozen for a few moments before the fear reaches his heart.
