I'm assuming that a +3 to AC would not have saved Bjorkus there? We also have a Heroism effect going.

Toramin runs to BB 11 and plants his flippers firmly on the wood. His chain, waiting to lash the hapless pirates.

Bjorkus thunders after Toramin but falls behind when he starts to speak.

"Crew of the Raging Storm, your captain's been gone for too damn long but I'm here now to make things right. Stand up, arm yourselves, and let's take back what's ours!" he bellows. "Titus Blakros's stay on our ship is long over! Make 'em regret ever crossing these pirates' paths!"

The bull's words are laden with power, sharing his might with any that would consider him an ally.

Moving to BB16. Assuming Rilka keeps up with Bjorkus that should put the 3 in close enough formation for a haste.

Knowing Dalton will offer magic assistance to their actions, she decides to remain close to Bjorkus. Her shorter stride necessitates foregoing any attacks but she is able to slightly outpace Bjorkus. She glares at the elf who shot Bjorkus, but draw her rapier since she’s heading into melee.

As foretold, Dalton invoked his haste upon Bjorkus, Rilka, and a good chunk of the archers. "Erastil guide your hands!"

In truth, Dalton only vaguely knew Erastil was associated with the bow. Instead, he meant the saying as a bit of inspiration. Some people need that.

He kept behind the archers.

Using them as soft cover for another +4 AC/Reflex.

Rilka and Toramin both run onto the docks in preparation to fight. Bjorkus makes a call to arms. The Aestherics hear the yelling and start climbing with boarding axes, one of them losing his grip and falling back into the water but the other five making it up and drawing their weapons. Quincy draws his blade with lightning speed and guts one of the pirates, dropping him to the ground before he could even turn around. The six archers raise their shortbows and release a volley of arrows into the pirates, devastating them as every arrow finds flesh. Two human pirates and the elven archer each have two shafts sticking in them, although none fall.

Blakros's voice roars our against Bjorkus. "YOU ROTTEN SHIT, YOU SHOULD HAVE HID WHEN YOU HAD THE CHANCE!" He draws a menacing greataxe and roars, stepping over and chopping at Quincy with such speed and fury that the nimble man has no time to move as he chops into his shoulder. Quincy reels back in pain and surprise, giving a grim quip to Bjorkus. "Don't think you'll have to worry about me taking him down for you!" The lizard draws a battleaxe and a wooden shield, hissing as he chops into the leg of one of the Aestherics. The elf drops behind cover and shouts to the pirates "Work together, we have the numbers! Focus down that f%~$ing half-breed!" Kal Aldhemark looks around in surprise at the sudden violence, then with a scared look he drops into the water, going below the surface and out of view. Bandu seems to react like every other pirate, going for his weapon to chop down the intruders. He pulls out a wicked little sword and goes for the northernmost Aestheric, but his blade falls short. Ragnar stands and mutters a curse, then chants to the Aestherics and party! "Come on than! It's time for Blakros to get what he has coming!" The pirates draw their cutlasses and begin chopping away at the intruders. Two Aestherics gather wounds, while one pirate is foolish enough to run at Toramin and gets his skull cracked in before he can even swing. The other three approach more cautiously, stepping towards him slowly.

Though Dalton's vantage point did not allow him to see things in the greatest detail, flashes of scales made him wonder exactly who was part of that crew. Kobolds? Beasts? It was a question that could wait, but it made its mark in the back of his mind.

He trusted Ianna's views were accepting enough to not be repulsed as he worked a gray necromancy, manifesting some of his own lifeforce as a spectral hand.

Dalton cast haste in round 1. Shouldn’t that be in the battle tracker? The maps are great by the way. Detailed and a clearly labelled grid.

Rilka dashes along the edge of the pier, her speed enhanced by Dalton’s magic. Once she boards the ship she looks for an opening to the hold. (Maybe at V 11 or so?)

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

Move action: X8. If the opening to the hold is clear, she’ll dash down there. If it’s not clear, she’ll stay at X8 for now.

Ianna moves forward and chants a protective spell in preparation to bravely wade into the mêlée to heal her allies. Dalton casts a spell with a twinge of pain as it temporarily sucks away some of his life to create a manifestation of necromancy. Rilka runs forward quickly and sees two clear entrances into below decks: a large hole to the north where cargo was being pulled out of, and a door to the south that's ten feet north of the elven archer. Bjorkus marches up next to Rilka while making his blade shine and challenging Blakros.

The Aestherics give battle cries, spurred on to unnatural power between Bjorkus and Ragnar's inspiration. One pirate and the lizard-mean take serious injuries while two other pirates are cut mercilessly to the ground, and the last one manages to climb onto the boat. The archers bolstered by Ragnar and Dalton, unleash twice as many arrows into the boat. One pirate takes three shafts and falls to the ground bleeding while another gets seriously injured and one of the Aestherics even manages to hit the elf behind all his cover. Quincy neatly runs his rapier through a pirates neck, killing him instantly.

The pirates being retaliating but their numbers are dwindling. Two Aestherics take minor wounds and the lizard lands another hit. Two of the pirates try to gang up on Quincy but in a hilarious display he twists their blades and causes them to both stab each other and drop to the ground. The elf hisses and aims at Bjorkus, releasing two arrows at once. The first goes wide, but the second lands in his shoulder painfully. Ragnar barks a spell and one of the pirates along with the lizard pirate fall to the ground, not moving. Blakros roars in anger as his crew gets cut to pieces. "You pieces of rottin' shit, fight to the last man or I'll cut you down myself!" He viciously chops down Quincy, leaving the Aestheric leader on the ground. His next attack opens up a sucking chest wound as he splits the sternum of an Aestheric. He laughs at the death and turns to Bjorkus. "Killed most of 'em when they tried to mutiny! Shoulda heard their cries for mercy, it would have made you proud to know you were in charge of a bunch of cowards!" He raises his axe, standing around a sea of corpses, mostly his own men.

Haha check out the map next to Dalton for the spectral hand, I didn't know Google Docs supported animations in images. Bjorkus takes 12 damage. Toramin remember that defensive stance overlaps with the morale part of inspire rage when it comes to the strength bonus, con bonus, and will saves, so they do not stack. Basically all that Bjorkus's inspire rage does for you is the +4 enhancement bonus to strength, which overlaps with your belt to only provide you a +2 bonus. Ianna, what is the DC for sanctuary?

"Well-done, men!" Sadly, his lack of tactical knowledge meant he did not know how to advise them to move next.

Dalton's ears did pick up on a back-and-forth between the bull and the usurper though. Although he didn't understand the exact bits of their quibble, he did know the temporary captain must have been holding his own. Given the number of Aestherics sent to the boat, that was not a good sign.

It was time to reduce the man's ability to fight then. Dalton walked to the left of the archer line O24 to get a better look at the man. Yes, that must be him. Bjorkus always goes right for the main target! Targ came to mind briefly.

I actually just looked at the spell description to see it only allows the attack once per round, regardless of the number of attacks possible. Sort of irrelevant in this case though as I doubt the 9 (or 10) would hit anyway.

The two dwarves run closer to the main fight. Dalton hits Blakros with his spell, but it seems the tough half-orc resists the slowing effect. Rilka gets behind one of the pirates and stabs him through the kidneys, dropping him to the ground. Blakros shields his eyes from the blinding effect, but can't prevent Bjorkus from wrestling him to the ground in a grapple.

The Aestheric fighters saw Quincy go down, and immediately one of them takes command. "Protect the downed men, and somebody gut that archer! Bjorkus, keep that crazy bastard under control and he's all yours!" Two of the Aestherics surround and chop down the northernmost pirate, while two others go after the elf, one of them landing a wicked cut on his leg. The archers release another volley, one arrow landing in the elf's shoulder and three skewering the last pirate on the docks.

Blakros struggles but the iron grip of Bjorkus is relentless. He spits into the quarter-bull's mouth as his only available form of vengeance. Meanwhile Ragnar puts a hand on Bandu's shoulder and with a few whispered words causes the foreigner to stop attacking, and the elf throws down his weapons with a snear, holding his hands up in surrender. With the rest of the pirates dead or dying and the leader in Bjorkus's tender care, there is little resistance anymore.

The Aestheric archers turn to forming a perimeter while the ones on the ship start moving the pirate bodies, trusting Ianna to handle the wounded. One Aestheric has a nick while two others have some fairly more serious cuts, but Quincy and one other Aestheric have terrible gaping wounds from Blarkos's axe.

Initiative reliant combat is over. Congrats! Bjorkus go ahead and decide how you're going to handle Blakros (poor bastard, I actually made him a level 8 barbarian but he can't do much against a grapple check like that). Everybody else, decide what you're going to do with the wounded, both friendly and enemy.

I totally forgot. Bjorkus gets to deal damage when he starts a grapple due to his raging grapple rage power.

Last Round's Damage: 1d6 + 10 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 10 + 6 + 2 = 22

Though he's passingly aware of his friends and allies were securing the ship around him, the whole of Bjorkus's attention is on his hated enemy. Blakros was a monster who'd butchered hundreds of pirates, sank dozens of vessels, hanged entire villages for being even associated with piracy. Above all of that he was the man that had taken the life that Bjorkus had known. He wasn't alone in the guilt but at that moment, the bull poured the entirety of his anger onto the orc.

Tightening his grip, Bjorkus flips his opponent onto his back and mounts him. With one of the orc's arms still secured he smashes Blakros with a bone-crushing hammerblow.

"THAT'S FOR MY CREW!" he roars.

Grapple for Damage (buffs, maintain, power attack): 1d20 + 16 + 4 + 2 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 16 + 4 + 2 + 5 - 2 = 44
Damage: 1d6 + 10 + 6 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 10 + 6 + 2 + 4 = 28

Mechanically (via raging grappler) Blakros is prone and Bjorkus is not. If he's still trying to escape the grapple Bjorkus's CMD is 28 this turn (and Blakros takes a -4 penalty to his grapple check).

Between Bjorkus's superior grappling skills and the Aestherics sitting nearby to help, Blakros is completely unable to break out of the grapple. He takes the blow and spits out blood, groaning in pain.

He needs at least an 18 to break out just against Bjorkus, and even then he would be bludgeoned back down instantly, so you can basically do what you want with him.

Now with an audience, Bjorkus continues to brutalize the former Xilres naval captain.

"THAT'S FOR MY SHIP!"

"THAT'S FOR THE INNOCENT FOLKS YOU'VE BUTCHERED IN YOUR F$%$ED UP CRUSADE!"

"And that's for me", he growls after he delivers a knockout blow - pulled at the last moment to spare the half-orc's life.

Ianna rushes forward to heal the injured. Holding up her hand, two golden rings begin to glow with a warm green light.

"Grant us mercy!"

The green light spreads over the fallen.

Will this save Quincy?

It takes half a minute of strenuous fighting, but Bjorkus bludgeons Blakros into unconsciousness.

Ianna puts healing magic over everybody, which wakes up nine of the pirates (already subdued by the Aestherics) and Quincy. However the Aestheric with the sucking chest wound remains on the ground and the healing appears to have had no effect on him whatsoever.

Quincy is barely conscious as he slowly stands, looking around at the carnage. Once he takes in the aftermath he takes a knee next to the fallen Aestheric. "Forgive me, I could not distract him long enough and he turned his attention to you. I failed you." He hangs his head for a moment, then takes the Aestheric badge off of the man and pockets it, turning to the party. He looks at the ten captured pirates, including the unconscious lizard and Blakros, as well as the surrendered elf. "So, what's being done with them?"

Bandu looks around at all the corpses, then shrugs and sits down, running his blade through the corpses of one of the pirates to coat it with blood.

Ragnar makes his way over to Bjorkus and puts a hand on his shoulder, worry and happiness and confusion in his eyes. "Me and you got a lot to catch up on."

Bjorkus sees to tying up Blakros personally before climbing to his hooves.

"You can say that again. I'm just sorry I took so long gettin' back to you", he says before turning to wrap up the older pirate in a tight embrace. "Where's the rest of the crew? Don't tell me Blakros was tellin' the truth. And where'd Kal get off to?"

As the archers break formation on the dock, Dalton trots down the pier, coming up the plank to the boat. It was a bit of a bloodbath, but it could have been worse. He was glad Quincy was coming to.

As the lizard-man was gestured, Dalton saw he? was not dead. Being no expert on the beastial races, it was entirely possible he could have been a slave or had not known any better. It was also an opportunity to learn about their kind.

"Erm, do leave this one alive if you can. It may give a unique perspective on the situation. "

He did not deign to interfere overly much; the boat was Bjorkus' business.

Ragnar looks around in confusion, trying to find Kal. "Damn, I didn't even see him slip off. I was a little distracted by being boarded out of nowhere." He scratches at his neck and deflects. "Why don't we take care of this situation now, and we'll talk about the crew later. Who are your friends?"

Quincy responds to Dalton. "As far as we're concerned, these men are all pirates and killing them is justified. That doesn't mean we're going to though, since they haven't done anything really evil or horrendous." He shrugs with a wince of pain. "In short, I don't give a damn about them one way or the other. Authorities sounds fine to me, but there's not any of that in Balgradash."

At this point the pirates are crying out for mercy or shouting insults or staring on in fear or anger as their fates are casually discussed. The lizardfolk wakes up and snarls while the elf sit in a haughty manner.

Have we met a nice elf yet? I think the most common descriptor you have used is haughty. What do they have to be haughty about? They have a negative Con modifier. ;-)

Toramin shrugs. He wasn't going to watch their throats be slit, but also he wasn't invested in carting them half way around the world for punishment.

Dalton approaches withing a few feet of the lizardfolk. "Can you understand me? What happened here?"

If it doesn't seem he can understand, Dalton will ask about to see who knows how to communicate with him.

"Surely, there are those dedicated to reforming criminals?" Ianna asks uncertainly.

Tiasar was a bit distant but a generally decent guy. Wasn't Shen an elf? He was pretty nice. But yeah, a lot of elfs are dicks, and a lot of them regardless of their alignment can be very haughty. That's not being racist, that's just a fact about them that's born from their higher intelligence, long life span, and culture.

Quincy rubs at his temples, thanking Ianna for the additional healing. "Most of them were just following orders, which is deplorable, but not worth being killed or damned. We'll take the leaders to some authorities and let the rest go."

The lizardfolk hisses back at Dalton. "You kill half of us and then ask what happened? Are you a half wit?"

Bjorkus finds himself nodding in agreement with his old mentor's suggestion and addresses the prisoners.

"Listen up you lot of sods!" he bellows over the clamor. "My name is Bjorkus, son of the pirate lord that goes by the same name and the Raging Storm is my ship. If you're on board you're either crew, guests, or you're cargo but this one time you get to decide which. Now I don't know what pit Blakros dragged all of you out of and I don't really give a f%+* because all that matters is now. Swear loyalty to me now and whatever you did under Blakros's command will be forgiven. If you refuse you'll be stowed below decks until we stop at a port where you can be ransomed to whatever poor fools are out there that might give a damn. Think hard about the offer but be warned: If you swear loyalty to me and you betray me, you're dead."

Diplomacy: 10 + 13 + 2 = 25

While he gives the prisoners a moment to think of his offer, Bjorkus turns back to Ragnar.

"These are friends and some allies I made while I was away. The dwarves are Toramin and Ianna, royalty from the dwarves in the mountains west of here. The elf's Dalton, mage and merchant. The little one's Rilka, she works with Quincy over there and his men", the bull explains gesturing briefly to each of his companions.

Looking to his friends, Bjorkus nods toward the older bard. "This is Ragnar. He's about as old as dirt but he taught me almost everything I know 'bout bein' a pirate."

Ragnar smiles. "I may be as old as dirt but at least I'm not as dumb as it." He prods at Bjorkus. He offers a wrinkled and weathered hand to each of the party. "What are we gonna do about the people below decks? Since the slave trade collapsed in Akropash, Blakros was going to take these and sell them off in another part of Yenrick."

Bjorkus chuckles at the ribbing. "Some men got big brains. Some are gifted elsewhere..."

"Let me see what we're workin' with", he says before heading below decks.

How many people are we talking about? Ages? Genders? Races?

Bjorkus sees twenty bronze-skinned men and women of various races, mostly human but also a few elves and dwarves and halflings and half-orcs. They're between the ages of adolescence and early adulthood.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

"Where're you all from?" he asks in the common tongue. "I imagine it's 'bout time for you to get home."

What about the drugs?

A few of them miss the common, but the majority seem to understand it. "We are from Yenrick, we were taken when we tried to flee to Akropash to escape the slavery."

The drugs are as I described them for Rilka.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

"Well you're in Andril now - the port of Balgradash. You want to go back to Akropash or are you interested in startin' new lives here?" he asks the speaking slave. "I wouldn't suggest settlin' down here in Balgradash but there's bound to be plenty of work further south toward the capital. It might be hard work but it'll put a roof over your heads and coin in your pocket."

"Unless a life on the water interests you..."

After poking at the assorted drugs, Bjrokus calls out. "Hey Rilka, any idea how much this stuff's worth?"

There are various responses, but the general agreement is to stay the hell out of Yenrick. Quincy puts a hand on Bjorkus's shoulder. "Getting these people to safety and freedom and set up with good opportunities is definitely something we can handle."

Bjorkus takes a scan over the drugs and can't identify most of it, but he does notice a couple crates of pesh...

It will take some time and effort to find out the worth of the drugs, and while I would normally say that's such a complicated process that you would need to find an NPC to do it for you, we have an alchemist (by abilities if not name) and a merchant in the party. Between Rilka and Dalton you should be able to get a gold value.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

"Thanks", Bjorkus says in reply to Quincy's offer. "That's just what I think they need. They woulda found opportunity in Akropash but it'll be easier here."

"What was his name - the one you lost?" the bull asks. "He died helpin' me take the Storm back and free my crew. I wanna toast to his bravery tonight."

My general plan was to sell off the drugs and use the cash to help pay to have these people relocated and given a fresh start.

"What's goin' on with the fools upstairs? They got any sense or are we gunna have a load of prisoners?" he asks Ragnar.

Quincy actually is looking a bit relieved at the sight of all the slaves. "His name was Sam." He glances around at all the people on the boat. "I'll tell you more about him later."

"You know Blakros. Bastard won't change, probably will just hate you all the more for what you did. The lizard f$$! is even worse, he's downright cruel, just an evil creature. The elf's a mercenary, I actually don't know much about him. As for the rest, they're just more scrap off the bottom of the barrel. Followin' the orders of their captain is all."

"No, just a half-breed. Speaking of which, I'd like to hear your story; I haven't seen your kind before. I'd also like to know why you're working for the former captain of this vessel." He gestured towards Blakros.

"My goal here isn't to have you killed. In fact, I'd rather you be set free ... but that freedom comes at a price. I have pull here, and that price is the information I asked for. If the price is too expensive, a cheap and slow death can be arranged."

The lizardfolk hisses through his teeth. "I don't need to explain myself to you, filthy half-breed." At the mention of a slow death he turns pale. After a minute he speaks softly. "What do you want to know?"
