Given the number of enemies at hand, the frugal Barrowwheel decided to pull out the stops. Taking a few of his pricier jewels from the folds of his robes he'd been holding for a dire situation, he said a few words, grinding them to dust in a swirl. He then places his hand on Toramin, a faintly radiating ivory aura surrounding him.

"Good sir, the damned and other maligned souls should now have a bit more difficulty working their wicked ways against you. Not that your armor hasn't done you proud thus far, but I figure, what harm is a little extra caution?"

Protection from Evil is now active for the next 6 minutes - or 100 rounds.

At the advent of this venture, Dalton hadn't known the necessary incantation to provide the protection. As such, his intended emergencies for the gems were financial. How things changed...

Let's hope that investment pays off...

The party buffs the living hell out of themselves in preparation for fighting the horde. Rilka flings a stone, nicking flesh off the closest zombie, and Toramin charges in to finish the zombie with a blow that completely crushes the undead's head into its torso.

Gabriel charges forth as well with his borrowed greatsword, swinging into a nearby undead with tremendous force. Sparks leap from his form and arc across the field of battle, minute but many, writhing around allies and granting them power as well. The constant prismatic light that flows through him seems to generate these random prismatic sparks as well, and each one seems to do something. A blade moving through the air a little more accurately here, a blow dodged just a bit more readily there. Ontop of Bjorkus' magic, Gabriel though the undead would be little more then a stepping stone. They had to move quickly though.

Too bad she doesn’t have one. Now at the mass of zombies, Rilka forgoes reloading her sling staff and uses the staff to bludgeon the undead. No map for the moment, the battlefield is basically 50 zombies between you and the dozen white cloaks hiding in a fort of corpses. Any cleave-like abilities can be used to max advantage here.

Rilka takes a chunk out of one of the zombies arms. Boris moves up with a dull roar, finishing off the creature. Dalton places a protective spell on Toramin, and it's clear to see the zombies shrink from the magic. Firyin cuts into another zombie, his attack style clearly working better than the bludgeoning style, but not quite downing it. Talev sees this and draws his longsword "Cut at them, it works better!" Toramin obliterates another zombie, and Bjorkus follows suit, completely cleaving one in half.

The zombies began to react to the new threat, some of them stumbling over to attack. Most of the more experienced warriors manage to sidestep or deflect the blows, but Dalton takes a good claw to the face as the zombie growls and spits bile. 8 damage and I need a fort save from you. While the individual zombies aren't that dangerous, they're quickly swarming the party.

The white cloaks give an exhausted cheer of approval at the "backup". Raul roars and cuts another zombie in half with his terrifying greatsword. The four white cloaks with bows loose a volley into a single zombie, but it seems to shrug off the arrows and continue stumbling forward.

Gabriel follows suit with the other martial members of the party, moving forward and swiftly decapitating a zombie. Edward moves beside him, following suit. "Grab a slashing weapon if you can!" Talev tries to do the same, but is a bit overzealous and swings wide.

Dalton recoils from the claw, the damage cutting deep in his psyche.

FORT: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

I'm not cut out for this kind of thing...

Needing to improvise, he backed around the side of the group, sticking behind the heavier fighters. He conjured his floating disk, hoping to counteract the mindless frenzy before them.

Let's see what Acera's working with.

Floating disk summoned to be directly in front of Dalton, who will take a move action to orient it that way unless said otherwise. Essentially, the 3' levitating disk which holds 700 pounds of force should be enough to prevent zombies from walking into that space; essentially, it's unpassable terrain unless they want to try gymnastics or crawl.

Dalton: Going off of the assumption that they are mindless killers, yes that logic would work. I am not telling you if they are one or the other, just saying that your logic is sound mechanically.

Rilka steps away from the front line for a moment, putting away her slignstaff and picking up a weapon from the ground. Assumed you did not want to eat 3+ AoOs from picking up a weapon. Feel free to take either a scimitar or longsword or dagger (all medium sized). With a dull crunch Boris drops another zombie. Dalton comes up with a theory and summons a disk of force...and it has exactly the desired effect. The zombies fail to understand how to get under or over the disk, resorting to moving around it, giving a slight reprieve to the onslaught. Firyin savagely tears forward, cutting down another undead. Toramin crushes another zombie, but he gets too used to the easy targets and his second attack glances off armor. Bjorkus cleaves another in twain.

Toramin has no problems in the swarm of undeath, using his superior defenses to throw off their attacks. Bjorkus's more reckless attack style is less effective at defense as he gets clawed by two of the undead. Gabriel manages to avoid the blows, but Boris takes a trio of hits and is bleeding badly, although still up and fighting. Firyin, Talev, and Edward each take a wound themselves. The zombies are about 1/5 gone, but they are slowly wounding the party down.

The white cloaks volley down arrows and continue stabbing away at the horde. The archers down a zombie, the spearmen drop another, and Raul cleaves through a third.

Yeah that’s pretty much how I envisioned Rilka doing that round’s action. Thanks

Rilka picks up a dagger, not having the training for the scimitar or longsword. The weapon’s balance isn’t the issue, so much as it’s size. Her fingers can’t quite find a good grip. She scans the zombies looking for one to attack preferably one that is occupied with one of her companions.

With two impressive swings, Gabriel's borrowed blade beats two brain-dead zombies into submission. Edward flashes out behind him, decapitating another zombie. Talev mirrors him, taking out another with one swing. Rilka steps up with her borrowed dagger and guts a zombie, leaving it with a terrible wound but it still stands. Boris goes for a swing, but his wounds seem to be throwing off his aim. Dalton swipes his force spell across the front of the party, helping to relieve the pressure of zombies (see below). Firyin angrily steps forward to protect Boris, but he seems lost in his rage and both his attacks go wide. Toramin crushes yet another zombie, but again his second blow is a bit overzealous. Bjorkus follows suit, tearing through another zombie.

The zombies mindlessly continue their onslaught of the party, however Dalton's spell is giving somewhat of a reprieve from the attack. Talev and Boris still both take some hits, and it looks like Boris is on the edge of collapsing soon. The zombies by the white cloaks fail to land any blows on Ulric, but they start tearing at the barricade of corpses blocking them from the other white cloaks.

The white cloaks continue trying to fight them back, Raul tearing through another zombie with haphazard breaths. Two of the archers seemed to have run out of ammunition, but the other six skewer and drop another zombie. The spear men stab forward, but only succeed in injuring one.

Dalton, your spell is cutting down the number of attacks by 1/3, essentially meaning each friendly that is in melee with the zombies is getting attacked 1 less time per round. The mindless undead are having troubling getting around your strafing force spell. If you spend a standard action each round concentrating on impeding the zombies you can continue to do this for the duration of the spell.

Omen, is it possible for Toramin to bring down the column this round from his current position? If he can, Toramin will move to where he can strike the column with his stone strike ability and ignore 12 points of Hardness, deaing Damage: 2d6 + 12 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3, 5) + 12 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 25.

Unfortunately, the pillars are on the second floor of the compound, meaning that some climbing will be required to reach them.

I assume a party of this level has torches and a means to light them on hand. Specifically, flint and steel.

I was mostly worried about Rilka getting caught in the blast. She has flint and steel listed on her gear list ;)

”Ah nevermind! I think I got it,” Rilka says as her mind forms a plan of action.

Next round she’ll climb up and light a torch at the base of the column. Then slide (or throw perhaps) the horn of powder into the flame from a safe distance.

With a mighty cleave Gabriel lays waste to another zombie. Edward lashes out, shearing off a chunk of the brain of another. Talev rips another open from neck to naval. Rilka goes for one of the injured zombies, dropping it with a slash to the stomach. Boris gives Gabriel a growl of anger, but steps back and brings his meaty arms up defensively. Dalton continues his spell, while Firyin lashes out twice and crushes the skull of yet another zombie. Toramin begins aiming his attacks more carefully, this time dropping two in a round with resounding thumps. Bjorkus roars and slays yet another.

The zombies are getting thinner, but by no means done trying to kill the party. Edward sidesteps the clumsy blows, but Edward takes a bad gash to the face, leaving him gasping as blood runs into his eyes. Talev takes a scratch on his arm and Bjorkus gets bit in the shoulder. Over by the white cloaks Raul takes a bite as well, but he roars in return and cuts down the zombie. The other white cloaks appear to have run out of arrows and have ducked back down into their cover while the zombies continue to batter away at the wall.

Gabriel, that’s a good idea of using the corridor to our advantage. Let me make sure I understand what Toramin’s plan is. Rilka climbs to the second story and attempts to blow up one of the columns which will (hopefully) cause a structural failure and collapse of the second story floor onto the zombies.

Haha I appreciate the good attention to rules Rilka, but if your armor check penalty is 0 you don't have to include it in the roll.

Rilka finds climbing the pillars to be well within her abilities and scales it effortlessly. Once up she moves over to the crumbling pillars on the second floor.

I had you take a double move action, next turn you start adjacent to it and can do whatever you want.

Gabriel is 5'9, has two mismatched rams horns (one spirals one way and the other the other way), long blonde hair and one somewhat pointed ear and one rounded ear. He is often seen in the company of Colonel Geoffrey, especially at the training field the army sets up when it has time. The guy is quiet and you'll notice if you see him long enough that he stares into space a lot. He also has a tail, one that typically sways behind him, though he has been seen picking things up with it once in a while. Half of it is covered in spines. The other is smooth to the tip, where there is half of an arrow head. He usually walks around during the day wearing his armor and a longsword on his hip. One piece of his armor, his helmet, looks like it was carefully adjusted to suit someone with horns. Gabriel also wears a holy symbol of Iomedae, cast from silver, around his neck. (A longsword pointed downward with a light shining around the cross guard.)

Toramin is tall, for a dwarf, standing all of four feet and four inches. In many ways, he is a study in brown: brown skin, brown hair plaited with runes, and brown eyes. Toramin goes about the camp armored. He keeps his scale mail meticulously clean and his armored kilt wrinkle free. He is most often seen running around the camp inspecting the mechanical siege craft and inspecting complicated diagrams. Occasionally, he carries with him a giant hammer that, in all fairness, is much taller than he is. You believe his job is to advise Geoffrey on technological matters.

So people don't have to go hunting for it, by the way, I got a link in Gabriel's signature thing to his picture. You can clink on it from any of my posts in discussion or game play to see him. (closest I could get to makin it my avatar XD).

Certainly shows me for picking a picture to represent him outside the paizo forumn.

As a half-minotaur, Bjorkus looks like a lesser version of his beastly sire. Although he’d never measure up to a full-blooded minotaur, he towers over most men. His massively built frame wears its power well, with broad shoulders, a barrel chest, and limbs otherwise thick with bulging sinew. A bovine head sits atop his shoulders, complete with a set of meticulously cared for thick horns, but broken up by very human green eyes. His ruddy skin is covered with dense dark body hair, especially across his chest and arms.

Male Tiefling Paladin 7 Tiefling, Init +0, Hp: 67/67, AC: 21/Touch: 10/ Flatfooted: 21, Resist 5: Fire, Electricity; Fort: 11/Ref: 6/ Will: 9, CMD: 21, Perception +0 (+2); Loh 6/10 day, Smite 2/3 day, Shatter 0/1 day

Question. Can Gabriel have a helmet? Since, mechanically, it wouldn't do anything for his AC (for some odd reason I never got that, but -shrug-) would you require an action for him to don it as well? I still want to give it to him. It will just determine how often he wears if it it takes a swift action to put it on, a move, or if he can do it while drawing a weapon.

A helment? On me?!

Dalton is a fat half-elf. Yes, you heard that right. Perhaps pleasantly plump is a more appropriate term. The man doesn't look like he belongs anywhere near a battlefield, yet here he is. He laughs more often than not around here though, and the soldiers take well to him overall.

As far as what he does besides eating his share at the mess hall, you may occasionally see Dalton setting-up tents or moving earth to form trenches - with his fingertips in the air. There are no fireballs from him, but the man wouldn't be strong enough to shovel a cityway let along dig a trench, so he relies on his mental ability. His shoulder length straw hair is solo without a beard or moustache, perhaps a part of his elven heritage that actually came through.

He keeps a pair of glasses on him, and he wears his 3/4 length viridian cloak about him well. With it, and with the crimson garb underneath, he looks more like a statesman than a soldier. One may wonder why he's digging trenches in fine clothes.

By all means. Mechanically it won't effect anything, just how you look

Given our GM's gleeful recounting of his called shots home rules, I think keeping all your mangleable bits covered is a smart call. :-)

You don't have to type in this format in the discussion thread, only if you are talking out of character in the gameplay thread.

Well if you're wearing armor and get crit on it, it's probably going to be damaged.

He is jolly! He has a special treat that he likes to give to all the good boys and girls.

Better the armor than my delicate, dwarven good looks.

Lindale stands taller than most men at just over 6ft. He is yet to don his newly acquired battle armour but can be seen with a shortsword at his hip when he is about. Silver hair just past his shoulders flowing in the wind and matching his grey eyes, which search the camp. You might know he helps with the camps security. He looks suspiciously at all, as if anyone could be a potential threat. Usually his tasks are not that important however. Making sure things are present and in order usually. He is neither quick to socialise or one to shy from people, but will happily talk to anyone who approaches. Though most leave him be due to his abnormaly dark skin and elf like ears.

Oh that's right, not everybody knows how drow work in my world.

There was some huge magical catastrophe that involved the dragons and the drow, but nobody is quite sure what it is. For some reason it caused them to lose their natural spell resistance.

Some of the drow are trying to progress in this world, but most of them stick to their old stubborn ways. If you go to a major city and take something similar to a citizenship test (although easier) you will be granted a card verifying you as a member of civilized society. If one of the old fashioned drow runs into one of these, they will usually kill on sight.

If our rogue checks in within an hour we can get started.

The previous post is what folks would see when Bjorkus isn't actively on duty or in combat. Having spent the greater portion of his life on the deck of a ship he hasn't worn much armor.

When on duty and basically forced to wear armor, Bjorkus is clad in a suit of worn scale armor a size too small and fitted for a soldier with reversed dimensions - being too tight across the shoulders/chest and too loose across the midsection. A heavy hide breechcloth and loincloth keep his hefty bovine manparts secured and tucked away. A massive axe is secured to his back via a leather harness and a hide sack tied to his hip holds his supplies.

Although imposing and constantly bearing a certain musk, those that are around the young bull for more than a short while quickly learn that he's approachable and friendly enough to most. He's often flippant about his military duties but seems to bear individuals no ill will.

He likes to sing and he likes to drink, often challenging other soldiers for a chance at winning their ale rations off of them. He loves physical tests of strength and seems to have an eye for the fairer female soldiers around the camp.

That better Mr. Omen? =P

With a deepening voice and a smattering of acne, Psotheos is clearly entering manhood. He’s just over six feet tall and slender. Despite the stains of blood, sweat, and dirt, his clothes clearly at one time were fit for a noble. His silver and purple tabard has a coat of arms over the left breast. A stranger can tell by his accent he’s from Xilres. For weeks he has marched tied to a wagon along with other hostages. His hair is long enough to fall into his eyes.

I will get a character sheet up very soon.

Gabriel, I'm doing the math and I think you have a 22 point buy. Also, just to clarify, are you simply using the longsword with 2 hands?

Dalton, I'm getting a 23 point buy from you, and that is taking into account your +1 str from your school of magic.

Middle age accounted for?

Male Tiefling Paladin 7 Tiefling, Init +0, Hp: 67/67, AC: 21/Touch: 10/ Flatfooted: 21, Resist 5: Fire, Electricity; Fort: 11/Ref: 6/ Will: 9, CMD: 21, Perception +0 (+2); Loh 6/10 day, Smite 2/3 day, Shatter 0/1 day

Lets see...

Str 15 - 7 (+2 racial)
Dex 10 - 0
Con 14 - 5
Int 11 - 1
Wis 12 - 2 (-2 racial)
Cha 14 - 5 (+2 racial)

Total = 20

And yes, I'll be using a longsword with 2 hands. Its his goddesses and his mentors favored weapon so unless something better comes along he'll probably stick with it. Mechanically not the strongest weapon but -shrug-

Mr. Omen, was the added description sufficient for Bjorkus?

Ah Gabriel, I forgot about your alternate racial ability bonuses. Thank you.

Always forget about age rules. I was never a huge fan of them, so I don't allow more than middle age. It's too easy to start off ancient and begin with like 23 cha or something. Ok, thanks for clearing that up

It's a little late for me to start anything. Check back in about 12 hours and I'll connect the gameplay thread and get everything started. G'night all

Yes it was, thank you. I will try to get into the habit of confirming things like this more often. Sometimes I just think "ok good" and don't say anything about it.

Hopefully Dalton doesn't need regular doses of Remove Meanness.

Heya Stratos.

Character Sheet ready for perusal. I didn't choose gear since I figured that depends upon what the Geoffrey gives him; probably some basic general issued weapon and armor. If I took the trait Rich Parents and bought some masterwork armor and weapon would Geoffrey allow him to use that? Or would the situation be more along the lines of "Well, do this for us and you can get your family heirlooms at the end of the war." If I don't take Rich Parents I'll probably go with Ear for Music.

Crunch looks good. Make your equipment as you were going to, I have a solution for it in game.

I was wondering if it is ok to take the alternate racial trait Ancestral Grudge, which replaces Poison use.

That trait is fine with me

Had a bit of unexpected time this morning. Gameplay thread is up. Please post your responses in appropriate spoilers, such as "DM & players x" (where player x is the other character with you at the time).

sweet, character sheet completed finally. Posting in gameplay soon.

Oh also, can everybody tell me when they normally have time to post? Just so I know when to be prepped to keep things moving. I know times fluctuate depending on the day and how busy you currently are, but I would like at least a rough estimate.

And hello, Bjorkus. Skaar #2, I see. Dalton is quite amicable as long as he gets his pastries.

It is late autumn

Hmm you're in my time zone Dalton. That will be easy to keep track of

I am an hour behind you guys, but I'm used to dealing with Est time so...

I'll typically be available 8-5:30 est time during the week and weekends, and then again from about 2:30 AM - 3 or 4 depending. So early mornings and early, early mornings. XD

PDT — usually able to post either early morning around 7:30 a.m. and after 9 p.m. Sometimes lunch time. Like now.

Busy man Psotheos. Most of my breaks are just before yours so that might work out pretty well.

Also, I have just finished setting up a very nifty program that sends a message to my phone every time somebody posts here, so I will be able to respond relatively quickly unless I'm busy. Normally after a large post I'll wait for every person to post once before moving on.

Yeah, I love being an engineer. Programming is awesome.

A DM I had used something like fantasy ground, a free version or what I don't know, and took screen shots. Those online programs are a lot more reliable when you only need to sign on yourself after all. XD

Check out this one I'm using for a PFS game.

Well it's not awful. I'd like a little more detail if I could. I'm going to PM somebody I know, I think they can help
