Omen are you waiting for an audit from Dalton before we move on to his dinner meeting or just generally busy?

Waiting on me. I'll be getting home from work soon.

Yes.

Livin' the high life!

Looks like my whole weekend is shot. We'll be putting the game on hold until Monday afternoon. I promise a big post at that time.

Same. Your last post made it sound like there might have been an emergency.

Oh sorry, I rushed that post. I actually spent the whole weekend in Chicago to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday, so it was a mini vacation for us. I'll get a post up in a bit.

Very nice Dalton, you're handling the chatty nosy slaver like a pro. I wish my schedule was less hectic so we could do some rapid posting, but I can't exactly bring my large binder of campaign notes with me to work.

It's primary day - you could get away with it.

Which of the PCs is seated with Bjorkus? I think there was some confusion.

Triba is.

Triba?

Do we have a no PC?

Crap, sorry. I have a character named Triba who uses the same avatar as Rilka. Rilka is sitting with Bjorkus.

Ah. That makes sense.

Were the servants going to answer Bjorkus or are they all too intimidated to speak?

I'm just distracted and tired!

So my girlfriend's father is a computer whiz and I had asked him for help because my adobe PDF reader wasn't working. He started with my active processes. Apparently you're supposed to have about 30 running on a laptop, give or take. I had 182. Give or take. On the bright side my laptop should run much faster!

We have a gold outing coming in tomorrow and I'm pulling a 12 hour shift so it's entirely possible I won't be able to post tomorrow.

Aye. The irrigation system got clogged so I pulled a 12 hour to help get it running again. Tomorrow I'm off work so I should be able to post.

You have a feeling you're missing the mark.

Any hints?

If that diplomacy check had no result I'm thinking they're some type of construct.

Ares isn't trying to convince them to take up arms and openly revolt in the middle of dinner.

But did his attempts at diplomacy really have no results?

Something like "The servants begin to look at Ares in a new light but it's clear they're far too afraid of repercussions to speak up in agreement with the minotaur" would go a long way.

This is one of those circumstances where I'm giving roleplay priority over rollplay.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

Yes, I understand you're looking for Bjorkus to say something specific but his diplomacy check should have some kind of effect.

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord) 11 l HP: 105/105 (127/127) l Init: +1 l AC: 30 (44 v giants) [T: 12 (14); FF: 27; CMD: 29/33(43)] l Fort: +13 (+15), Ref: +7, W: +9 (+11) (All saves increase by +5 for p, sp, and spls) l DR: 5 (Adamantine) l Per: -1

Then can you give Bjorkus a little guidance on how he might actualize his goals? It might be a little frustrating shooting blind since he seems to be making a fair shake at roleplaying. :-)

I've acknowledged that you made the check so you know I'm not ignoring it and didn't forget about it. With that being said, what I've said in gameplay is what Bjorkus has noticed as a reaction to his efforts. That doesn't mean that there was or wasn't an effect, but if there was either Bjorkus failed to notice it or it's not going to show itself immediately.

I'm going to bed for the night, I've stayed up later than I should have already. Tomorrow I have a half day at work so I should be able to post quite a bit.

Edit: I'm aware Toramin, but I can't do much about it without letting you guys aware of something that you should not be aware of yet. However, I will tell you that you'll learn about it tomorrow when I get to post.

Maybe the slaves were all mimes at one point and have trouble expression their emotions!

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

Based on the information we have and the situation, I've deduced one of the following is happening here.

*There's some sort of Red Wedding dinner-massacre being planned. The slaves are nervous because they know they're going to have to pull out knives and try to kill Ares in a few minutes. Bjorkus's attempts to win them over are falling on deaf ears because they're all insane fanatics.

*The slaves are under mind-control and incapable of free thought. Ares is literally speaking to a wall because they couldn't speak up in dissent if they wanted to.

*The slaves are actually hungry for a revolt but want reassurance that they will be protected in the long term. Mechanically, they're already friendly and the cold shoulder Bjorkus is getting is just their nervousness.

Brilliant Bjorkus! That's the kind of out of the box thinking that will keep you alive in my games!

I didn't want to meta, but option C is almost certainly it. I was getting that vibe back since the brawl you had with the elf. That and natural human inclinations.

I was getting a feeling option A would have a decent likelihood of happening if Dalton's true identity - not even intentions - were discovered. Yet I think there's another side to that now to be exploited.

Either way, just be glad this wasn't Nicatha's knowledge check in the other game's makeshift shadow plane. Remember it was like 40+, and the result was essentially "this place is strange". Diplomacy is more nebulous in the sense it may well WORK, but the RESULT is more difficult to see - even via sense motive, as sense motive implicitly needs a desired form of sign to recognize.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

Heh. I'm glad you liked that.

My point was, without some basic feedback on my actions (the diplomacy check) I have a hard time understanding if I'm on the right track. The result is what feels like a guessing game.

If they're hungry for revolution they should look to Bjorkus with nervous hope in their eyes or something to that effect. Otherwise I'm just shooting in the dark.

Feedback: Toramin was trying to read these people to filth, but he is trying to be subtle, so they will have no cause to be directly offended. Is he being innocuous enough? Or do my jabs need to be more clever?

Oh no Toramin, you recovered rather nicely. What's coming was planned out and was actually instigated by Dalton's most recent comment. But I digress, I need sleep!

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

I'm kind of confused. I thought Rahotep worked for Targ and was already in the process of buying Ares for Targ.

Also, this clears up any doubts that the whitecloaks are in Targ's pocket.

He does, but Dalton denied his request. Now Targ is saying "I'm buying him, get over it." I wonder if those two are connected? And it sure is convenient that a number of people knew where your location would be tonight...it makes it so much cleaner if they aren't busting into some ramshackle inn to find you.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

Oh, I didn’t get that Dalton was denying the request. I thought they were in the middle of negotiating. I must have missed something.

Well in any event, isn’t this what we were trying to accomplish?

It certainly does get Bjorkus closer to Targ, although it could be a very dangerous way to do so judging by the state that Gabriel is in.
