Serge Foxmourn |
"Was it a good nap?" Serge smiles at the lazy, bearded human. "Come, we must continue before more of those stinking lizards find us."
Serge moves back into Tulok's room and investigates the door to the east.
Serge Foxmourn |
"A prisoner? Are you okay, friend? Did the big, ugly, smelly troglodyte put you in here?" Serge examines the man for wounds.
Chyrone |
The man, a young looking human with a stub beard and ruffled hair, lowers his arms, relieved Serge isn't who he thought would step in.
"Yes, the troglodytes put me here.
I went exploring and found this place less deserted than i had thought."
Aside from several bruises, the man has no serious injuries.
Serge Foxmourn |
Serge is pretty trusting, so he's not going to sense motive.
Serge attempts to remove the manacles, using the key if necessary. "Exploring? The same goes for us. An old gentleman by the name of Herbert asked us to go here and have a look around, documenting what we can for his academy." Serge remembers the wayfinder, and pulls it out, showing it to the man. "Might this be yours?"
Serge Foxmourn |
I don't want to hog the NPC, but I appear to be the only Paizo addict.
Serge nods. "The rest of your things are probably in the box next door, stuffed in there by the troglodyte. What are your plans, by the way? Perhaps you could help us out. Surely you must be seeking vengeance against these creatures for what they have done to you." Or at least, I am...
Adamondais |
Adamondais keeps quiet as Serge talks to the prisoner, content that nobody is trying to kill him at the moment.
Chyrone |
The man thanks Serge, and heads over to the box.
"Hmm, all that's missing is my bow.
Darned lizards probably either took it or burned it."
He stands up after equipping the rest.
"My name is Balenor, bard, and member of the pathfinder society.
Pleased to meet you."
1 room remaining on this floor, and the top of the building of course.
Serge Foxmourn |
"I believe my friend here may have your bow..." He looks over at Sifah.
"I am Serge, Paladin of Ragathiel. This is Sifah, Adamondais, and Sir Dude." He points to the others as he mentions their names. "Will you be joining us? An inspirational song may help us defeat any other threats we may encounter." Serge smiles and holds his hand out to welcome the bard.
Serge Foxmourn |
It was a slow work day. :)
Perception in case of traps: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Serge leads the party, including Balenor, towards the last room on this floor and pushes open the door.
Chyrone |
And i'm free from work. :)
Serge doesn't spot any traps...though in adventuring that doesn't mean safe 100% of the time
He carefully pushes open the door.
It's very dark inside....
But...once Adamondais fixes that with a lit pebble:
Cracks in the walls and ceiling of this chamber have allowed rainwater to collect here, flooding the room and giving rise to a profusion of mold and fungus along the walls and ceiling.
Adamondais: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (10) - 2 = 8
Serge: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Sifah: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
The Dude: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Balenar: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Surprise init
The Dude: 1d20 ⇒ 5
Frog: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Serge carefully steps into the room. At that moment, The Dude spots an oversized frog, which opens its mouth with a croak.
Surprise round:
The frog gets the drop on Serge, and The Dude gets one surprise round action, before normal init.
Tongue lash, touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Grab?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
A slimey yet sticky tongue catches Serge by surprise, but it was not enough to get a grip on him.
===> The Dude surprise action.

Amondais: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
The Dude: 1d20 ⇒ 2

The Dude
The Dude With No Name |
knowledge (nature, big frog lore): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Recognizing danger the Dude takes a step forward and rests his hand on Serge's shoulder (casts sanctuary DC 15 on Serge).
"Don't make any sudden movements." he nods toward the beast. "Ugly little spud ain't it?"
Adamondais |
knowledge nature: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
"Foul smelling humanoid lizards, shocker lizards, and now a giant frog? I'm beginning to think this place is a wizard's tower, ruled over by a mad herpetologist."
spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27 (to identify Dude's spell)
Seeing that the Dude has warded Serge, Adamondias waits to see what the Dude has planned. He readies a spell in case the frog attacks. Readied action: magic missile vs. Giant Frog if it attacks any party members.
Chyrone |
Oh, you should see what i came up with for homebrew.
That'd make these look like harmless puppies.
Giant frog, round 1
Adamondais readies a magic missile, which practically goes off immediately, as the frog moves to attack.
1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
---------
Giant frog (-4)
Can attack?: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17
The frog's hunger is larger than The Dude's magic.
It hops over to Serge.
<CROAK>
Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 201d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Grab?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
It firmly sinks its teeth into the paladin.
---------
Balenar starts a round of inspire.
"Don't lack courage, we will prevail!"
Sifah, Serge
The Dude
Sifah Asashio |
Sifah will acrobatics her way to just north of the toad and attack from there. It's too far for her to make it all the way into a flanking position this round.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Short Sword: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 3 + 1 = 211d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 = 4
Zam Ellyot, Mysterious Stranger |
Off-screen voice-over
"Foul smelling humanoid lizards, shocker lizards, and now a giant frog? I'm beginning to think this place is a wizard's tower, ruled over by a mad herpetologist."
Seeing that the Dude has warded Serge, Adamondias waits to see what the Dude has planned. He readies a spell in case the frog attacks. Readied action: magic missile vs. Giant Frog if it attacks any party members.
Technically, the Dude needs to be standing where Adamondias is. I just didn't/still don't have access to a desk/lap-top computer to make the move in Google's version of Paint. New fan-dangled stuff always confuses me. ;)
"Yep, that there big froghemoth thing looked to be givin' that sad paladin fellow a right good lickin'."
Serge Foxmourn |
Any difficult terrain in this room?
Serge Foxmourn |
Serge pulls his arm away from the slimy frog's mouth and shakes off the saliva frantically. "This place is like a shrine to Urgathoa... Disease and filth at every corner." With that, he sets up a flank 5 foot step with Sifah and strikes at the frog.
Nodachi, pa, flanking: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 161d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Serge Foxmourn |
"Ah, I can imagine. Perhaps taking a dip into these shallow waters will remind you of home?" Serge nods at Sifah after cleaning the frog's guts off of his blade.
Before anything else, he taps himself with the wand of all wands a few times and hands it back to Dude.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 2 = 6
CLW: 1d8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 2 = 8
Serge isn't being flippant, he really knows nothing about undine or from where they come.
Chyrone |
Nothing left but the top floor. The part to the side is just an open space.
When everyone has prepped whatever they want, the team proceeds to find whatever, or -whoever-, is on the top floor.
Adamondais: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
The Dude: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Serge: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 2 - 4 = 10

Snapjaw: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
You've been noticed coming.
How many of you up before combat: 1d5 ⇒ 2
As Serge is the first to arrive, closely followed by the others, he immediately notices the dim light. 20% miss chance for humans.
-----------------
The four wings of the tower are completely open on this level, forming one great, cross-shaped chamber with arched ceilings.
The decayed remnants of a carpet run from the doorways at the end of each wing, meeting in the center, where a spiral staircase drops out of sight below.
A large, throne-like chair stands in the middle of the eastern wing next to a big chest.
The ceiling is 20 feet high, and the chair can be hidden behind.
A hissing voice comes to his ears, and it's none too friendly.
Serge can somewhat make out a figure near the big throne, and an animal.
"By you mammals coming up here, it means you have defeated my followers below. Die!!"
Amondais: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
The Dude: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Serge: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Sifah: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

The Dude & Sifah
==> Three of you (Balenar included), are still on the stairs, with Adamondais 5ft from the top floor, The Dude 10 feet, and Balenar 15 feet. These reptiles had very keen perception.
Adamondais |
fort: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
As the group starts to emerge on the top floor, Adamondais understands the draconic and warns the group, "Watch out, that wasn't an invitation to tea. Let's finish this and be done with it, shall we?"
He moves past the others and courageously hides behind Serge.
knowledge nature: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18 (Do I have any idea what the animal (Snapjaw?) is?)
Adamondais then reads a scroll of mage armor. AC:16 (T:12, FF:14)
Chyrone |
Adamondais conveniently had a scroll in his hand while ascending the stairs. ;)
The dim light made the proper view iffy, but his guess is it must be a reptile. From that distance, with this light factor, it can be tricky.

Tasskar says some words in draconic, while making a few weird but rude gestures.

Serge Foxmourn |
Fort save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
After coughing up some of his lunch, Serge moves up in line with the crocodile, then holds his nodachi out in front in preparation for the crocodile's attack.
Move action to get aligned with the croc, standard action to ready an attack. Also, isn't Adamondais still using a light spell?
Chyrone |
I don't think he did. Guess it'll be for later.
The croc marches in.
Readied Serge strike!: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 - 2 = 41d10 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 - 2 = 8
Croc bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 231d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Crit?: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 91d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Grab?: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25Deathroll dmg: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Snapjaw closes in on Serge, and viciously bites his thigh. It establishes a grab and goes for a death spin, knocking Serge both prone and KO.
Stabilize roll to be certain.
------------
Balenar hears something above.
"Things sound dangerous up there. I know just the thing."
Balenar starts an inspiring tale of an university teacher, who's the greatest adventurer on the side.
Sifah& The Dude
Serge Foxmourn |
I could have rolled my own attack... Would have power attacked anyway, and nodachi is a brace weapon.
Serge Foxmourn |
Welp, we're done for. Next time, please let me roll my own attacks.
Serge Foxmourn |
Serge bleeds?, con: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Adamondais |
(It's impolite talking about a lady's weight, in her presence, you know :P)
:P
Wait, is Balenar playing the Indiana Jones theme on a lute? I don't see how I can possibly be pessimistic if that's the case!
Adamondais fires a magic missile at the crocodile-thing.
force damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
The Dude With No Name |
Adamondais fires a magic missile at the crocodile-thing.
knowledge (nature, crocodile-thing): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
knowledge of the ages! (nature, crocodile-thing): 1d20 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 4 = 8
Hmmm? I wonder if I could get someone to make a bowling ball bag out of it, whatever it is?
Chyrone |
Sifah dealt +1 dmg, btw, from inspire.
The Dude knows crocodiles are usually larger.
They are obviously large strong reptilians.
I think you forgot acrobatics roll, since you're traveling through a threatened square, the one below Serge. You also still have a fort roll DC 13 to make against Tasskar's stench.
Acro The Dude, DC 17: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
The croc snaps at The Dude.
AoO croc: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 101d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Why'd you not buy some armor? A chain shirt is still a shirt.
A leather jacket is still leather armor.
Grab?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25Death roll dmg: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
The Dude is snapped in the leg, and the crocodile performs its death roll again, knocking his Dudeness KO at -5.
Stabilize roll please.
====================
Boss level, Tasskar, round 2
Adamondais launches an arcane missile into Snapjaw.
RRRRRR
That hurt.
----------
Tasskar finishes his gestures and muttering.
A carpet of spiders appears underneath Sifah's feet.
Swarm dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 5
He ushers some new words, and a ball of flame appears in his palm.
----------
Serge bleeds 1 to -5.
----------
Snapjaw now attacks its nearest target, Sifah.
Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 161d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Aw man... >_>
The damage of the reptile's jaws is too much after the spiders' bites, and Sifah passes out.
Tail slap: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (13) - 2 = 111d12 ⇒ 6
The tail's impact doesn't help much either.
=> Sifah, 1 fort roll vs the poison, DC 11. (2 rnds 1d2 str, 1 save = cured)
Plus a stabilize roll please.
----------
Balenar casts a healing spell, and moves up, and sees the carnage.
Keeping up inspiring words, he touches Serge.
CLW: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

The Dude With No Name |
I think you forgot acrobatics roll....
I think what I think needs a child-proof spoiler tag. The Dude was on the stairwell, unless the croc-ish thing has 10-foot reach the Dude didn't leave a threatened square without withdrawing. Normally that is what triggers most movement AoOs. What threatened square did the Dude need acrobatics to leave/move through? If the stairwell exits on the northside then he obviously stands north of Serge. I mean 'common sense' and all.
fort save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18 And yet, I still feel fatigued.
