GM Chyro |
Welcome guys, hopefully you're ready for the opera...and the dead.
Vassago Ilsidore |
Dot: Just need the chronicle so I know how much gold I have to play with :) Now that I'm level 3, got some good stuff. Now to hit level 5, get Weapon Finesse, and have melee and ranged options.
Sele the Thorn |
Dot... Kinetic blade is useful. Gold is good, I may be able to upgrade stuff.
GM Chyro |
A week ago, you were seated in the main hall of the Grand Lodge of Absalom, waiting for the arrival of Absalom’s newest venture-captain, a tall, dark-haired and olive-skinned Varisian woman named Eliza Petulengro.
Renowned for her composure under pressure and the author of more than two dozen Pathfinder Chronicles entries, she appeared in the hall suddenly, a stack of chronicles in her arms, and looked you over before speaking. "My greatest pupil, Pathfinder Bodriggan Wuthers, has gone
missing. He followed a cleric contact back to Wuthers’s home city of Oppara to work on a massive dig beneath the House of the Immortal Son, Oppara’s famed opera house and once temple to the dead god, Aroden.
That was a year ago. He sent monthly reports, hoping to see their publication in a chronicle, before all contact dried up a few months back. I’m worried something has gone wrong, and the Society has a vested interest in the artifact he was researching and seeking. We want you to travel to Oppara and find Wuthers.
We’d like to know exactly what he was seeking, too, since he neglected to inform us through his monthly correspondence. He hinted only that the cleric of Irori he was working with told him the object was the world’s greatest ‘living’ artifact—whatever that means."
.....
"I have a few tidbits of information to pass to you before you go: the House of the Immortal Son is nearly impossible to access. It took Wuthers months and countless bribes to get where he did. For you, I have a much simpler idea. Go to an opera, wait for an opportunity, and then exploit it to find Wuthers and his dig site. Be sure to wear something festive—the Taldan nobility are arrogant on their best days and if you arrive at the opera dressed like that, she waves her hands at you, they’ll surely lose your tickets or regret to inform you that the opera house is oversold. Go and report back to me directly upon your return to Absalom."
Any prepping before you arrive?
Sele the Thorn |
"Could you recommend a tailor then please Venture Captain, you've been so informative so far about our mission, i'm sorry to need to ask for yet more information"
Kenji Nishida |
"I, too, will need appropriate clothing as my usual hakama and kimono probably won't do at such an affair. So such a recommendation would not be remiss. Thank you."
Vassago Ilsidore |
"I will have to pick up a new suit.", comments the ifrit.
Picking up a courtier's outfit as well as 50 gp worth of jewelry: a pinky ring, nice cuff links, and a tie clip.
Nicely, this will go over my mithral shirt. Will be turning off the water shield for the opera, of course.
GM Chyro |
VC: "There is Lamare Tailoring, they have very good quality clothing, so i'm told."
Sele the Thorn |
"Thankyou Venture Captain"
I go there and see if they can make me something suitable.
GM Chyro |
They certainly can, you need only pay that 50g, that Vassago also spent on his luxurious outfit.
Kenji Nishida |
Kenji goes to the Tailoring shop and has something made that suits the 'courtier' level of clothing but that also gives some nod to his heritage. spending 50gp on clothes.
Clair Vavassour |
"I keep buying new outfits for all these missions," a pale woman who looks slightly Varisian says. "May I send the bill to the Society? No? Tsk..."
"In case you don't know me, I'm Clair," the young woman says to her allies, absentmindedly running a hand through her long black hair. There are a few strands of hair that she's painted red, which fall in front of her face. Clair frowns and blows them out of her face.
"Give me a moment to shop. I'll be right back."
Clair heads to one of the fancy shops in Oppara and buys a Courtier's Outfit for 30 gp. She also buys 50 gp worth of jewelry to add to her outfit.
When Clair returns to her allies she's wearing a black dress with a white ribbon around the waist. Around Clair's neck hangs a necklace adorned with rubies, and she wears a matching set of silver earrings with rubies.
Clair's dress looks much like this, except it's custom made to show less cleavage to ensure her breastplate doesn't stick out. Her breastplate's shaped like her body, so no bumps save for where they should be.
Sele the Thorn |
Sele goes to the shop and enters nervously. . He entreats the shopkeeper to measure him up making sure he accounts for the Nagajis distinctive physiology and when it's all done hd pays his 50 gold and leaves.
GM Chyro |
The tailor is known for his expertise, and sure enough he crafts for Sele a fine looking outfit.
"Thank you for your purchase, have a good day."

You can roll gather info or Kn. Local for information on Wuthers and the opera house seperately.

GM Chyro |
Bodriggan Wuthers was an orphan of unknown ancestry, found 20 years ago on the doorstep of the Pathfinder Lodge of Taldor’s capital, Oppara.
He was raised in an orphanage, but the Taldan Pathfinders made it a point to look in on him from time to time, encouraging the boy’s curiosity and pushing him toward the life of the vagabond scholar.
When Wuthers turned 16, he left the orphanage behind and traveled to Absalom to join the Pathfinder Society. After a few years of training and following Venture-Captain Eliza Petulengro, Wuthers settled easily into his routine, traveling Avistan and Garund seeking greater glory for
himself and the Society through treasure hunting.
He quickly made a name for himself, battling through a host of demon-possessed apes in the Screaming Jungle at age 18 to recover the Garls Harp, an Azlanti musical instrument thought lost to time and memory.
Once a temple to Aroden, the House of the Immortal Son has, since his death, been Taldor’s most opulent and expensive opera house.
It is a large, windowless, cylindrical building made of polished marble and granite and surrounded by thick, finely-carved pillars.
Built in the earliest traditional styles of Aroden temples, the opera house lacks windows (visitors are meant to look up, not out) and its roof is a complicated piece of stone statuary that replicates the holy symbol of Aroden, a steady winged eye gazing forever toward the heavens.
As you enter, you notice the fine decorations inside. Luxurious carpets hang from the walls and paintings of various themes hang in the waiting area. From the ticket booth you hear the middle aged, cane supported man, call out.
"Next for the tickets!"
Fortunately, your own tickets had been arranged prior to your arrival.
Sele the Thorn |
I share the information I have gleaned with all.
Vassago Ilsidore |
"Good work, Sele.", the ifrit patting the nagaji on the back. "Come, let us get our seats!" Vassago goes to the usher. "Our tickets have already been arranged for us; Vassago Ilsidore, and my companions, righteous Sele the Thorn, the mystical Kenji Nishida, and the lady Clair Vavassour.", Vassago smiling warmly.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
GM Chyro |
The man pushes his spectacles a bit higher onto the nose, while he checks the records book.
"Hmm...Vasper..Vaspene....Vassago, yes here it is.
..Murmer...murmer....ah and the other three too. Well then, enjoy our show, your seats are in the back, near the entrance."
Kenji Nishida |
Kenji nods to the man, then enters with the others, glad their seats are where they might exit unseen from the crowd.
Vassago Ilsidore |
Poor seats... might as well enjoy what I can, though, Vassago thinks to himself. "Yes, let's enjoy what we can.", he smiles as he helps escort the party, particularly Clair, to their seats.
Sele the Thorn |
Sele follows the directions eager to see the show
Clair Vavassour |
"Thank you," Clair says as Vassago escorts her to her seat.
"I've never gone to an opera before. I'm curious to see what it's like."
GM Chyro |
Wish Granted..*poof*
The show that makes its debut tonight, is called Among the Living,
It’s an epic tale of a lone Ulfen warrior named Victory who sails to the ends of Golarion, crashes off the edge of the world, and finds himself in a gothic paradise where he falls in love with the undead queen of a jungle kingdom.
After act 2 of the play:
As yet another twirling dancer in a brown costume festooned with bright pink, flowing silk scarves spins across the jungle set at the front of the stage, the orchestra reaches a screeching crescendo that crashes the entire opera to a halt.
The dancers stand quietly for a moment, breathing heavily and listening to the scattered applause across the obviously bored Taldan audience. Suddenly, a sound like a thousand gongs shakes the entire building to its very foundation and the audience murmurs in a mixture of delight and fear. The actors and orchestra, however, flee the stage, disappearing behind the curtains.
Hushed talk and murmers start within the crow.
..........????
Suddenly, the doors to the north and south entrance crash open, as a horde of people dressed like zombies come in, very much in the theme of things. A noble stands up to greet the 'actors'.
"Jolly good performance, keep up the good wor..*gurgle*"
He is unable to finish his word, as he's grabbed and his throat bitten open. As he falls to the ground it is silent for a second or two, before the crowd erupts in panic, the nobles desperately trying to get away from the pulling of the zombies. Zombies who look very very hungry.
Shortly after, the exit where you are seated near, crashes down too, though the amount of zombies is less. They are now less bloodthirsty though.
----------------------------------------
You are at the moment still seated, with weapons sheathed.

Sry, the map didn't show underneath my picture yet.
Map's up.

greatsword confirm crit: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 142d6 + 7 ⇒ (3, 4) + 7 = 14
GM Chyro |
Forum ate my post.
As per earlier, you guys are seated at start of combat.
Double moves to get up close and personal.
Sele the Thorn |
If that movement could be between the two front zombies that wuld be ace.. I can't move myself on the map, i've tried
Kenji Nishida |
in that case
Kenji stands and says softly to his fellow pathfinders, "I doubt we can defeat these kind of numbers alone... perhaps we should take this as a sign to use it as cover to make our way to the diggings rather than stay and fight..." However to belie his own suggestion, he moves to the closest zombie, defensively, just in case the others decide to stay and fight.
Vassago Ilsidore |
GM: Map is set to view only! You'll probably need to add edit rights to those who use the edit link and use that in your profile :)
Zombies and me with my primarily bludgeoning damage :P
Vassago stands up, trying to leave room for the lovely Clair to move behind him if need be. Then thrusts his fist forward, sending a ball of water towards the closest zombie.
Water blast (bludgeoning damage) @ Green: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 1 = 27
Damage on hit: 2d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 + 1 = 12
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 1 = 13
Extra damage on crit: 2d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 + 1 = 12
Hopefully? :P
Clair Vavassour |
"Looks like Urgathoa wants to test me," Clair states as she turns her head to look at the zombies.
Clair gets up and takes a 5-foot step north. She focuses her divine energy, which collects around her as a black fog. The fog then spreads out and envelops the zombies north of her.
"Protect me and the others who live," Clair commands the zombies.
Using Command Undead to take control of the group of zombies north of us. DC 16 Will for each to resist.
Can't move myself, but I want to move 5 feet up. Are the zombies without colored borders also our enemies in this encounter, or are they actors who fled?
GM Chyro |
View only? I could have sworn i enabled edit rights.
It's fixed.
The zombies without borders are invading the room, but the bordered are the ones focused on you.
Kenji and Sele get up from their seats and move into closer range of the zombies.
Claire gets up and attempts a channel to restrain the zombies' brain eating tendencies.
Will blue: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Blue is refraining from trying to eat Kenji's brains.
Command Undead is kind of vague in description. It reads to me as an attempt at a specific undead, located within 30ft. No mention of a burst aoe for random results.
You will have to keep making opposed charisma checks to make them do anything opposed to their initial command, as they are initially also under another's control. Staying stationary won't be an issue, fighting other zombies and evil people associated with them, would be. :)
Vassago expertly launches a ball of water at green.
The zombie falls over.
------------------------
Blue (does nothing)
Purple Vs Sele: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13Dmg: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
A miss.
Red closes in with Kenji, yet provokes.
AoO Sele: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12Dmg: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 5) + 7 = 18
It is hewed down.
The bigger zombie makes a charge at Clair, Kenji swings a punch in aoo.
Aoo: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13Dmg: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 A miss.
Charge Vs Clair: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 2 = 27Dmg: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Clair takes a firm swing to the jaw.
------------------------
In the public, the zombies pour into the masses and people are being dragged down, the sickening sound of flesh being chewed and the screams of death fill the air. Some of the nobility's bodyguards fight back however, taking down some zombies.
ZOMBIES!!, round 2.

Zombies:
Blue (?)
Red
Other zombie.
Kenji Nishida |
Kenji attacks red.
1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 1 = 25
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 1 = 19
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Vassago Ilsidore |
Vassago steps to the side and blasts the zombie in the back with another hydrodoken!
Water kinetic blast @ Purple: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 1 = 18
Damage on hit: 2d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 4) + 6 + 1 = 12
GM Chyro |
Whoops, red is not supposed to be in the equation.
Another target?
Clair Vavassour |
"As a standard action, you can use one of your uses of channel negative energy to enslave undead within 30 feet."
It works for (all) undead within 30 feet. Not just a single undead creature within 30 feet.
I'll wait with my next post to see if the other zombies make their saves or don't.
Charisma check, if required, for the command Clair gave: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
GM Chyro |
It yet doesn't say any number of undead.
Man they really need to clarify this more, sometimes text can be read both ways.
Will purple: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Will red: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
This forces more retcon.
Purple and red will now also be stationary.
You now control 6HD worth of zombies.
DC for cha checks was 13, they won't attack this turn, but are harmless to anyone in the theater.
This is based upon the zombies being controlled by [object], handled by [bbeg].
Still, having zombies as your personal meatshields can be useful.
Clair Vavassour |
It seems pretty clear to me, especially with the plural here:
"Undead that fail their saves fall under your control, obeying your commands to the best of their ability, ..."
"Guys no!" Clair exclaims as her allies cut down the red zombie. "I just took control over it!"
She points at the blue and purple zombies. "Leave those be! I control them now, so focus on the other enemies!"
The non-colored enemy's also an undead, isn't it? I see no save for him, but he was also within 30 feet. Or was the save you rolled for red meant for him? (Red's already down.)
I'll wait a little longer to see if I, besides purple and blue, also get to control the other zombie. It greatly influences my planned actions.
GM Chyro |
I didn't roll for the 'other zombie', since you couldn't add his number of HD. Yup, one many HD bugger.
Sele the Thorn |
Without thinking of the implications of his companions actions for the moment Sele moves to help others with zombies
moves to another zombie
greatsword: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 172d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 3) + 7 = 15
Clair Vavassour |
@Vassago: If you could leave purple be, yes please! :)
Clair moves into flanking position with Sele and swings her scythe at the zombie in between them. "You don't want to listen, huh?"
+1 Scythe, +2 Flanking: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 2 = 29 Damage: 2d4 + 5 ⇒ (4, 4) + 5 = 13
Confirm crit: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 2 = 10 Aww... Damage: 6d4 + 15 ⇒ (3, 1, 2, 3, 4, 4) + 15 = 32
She then tries to give blue and purple a slightly different order than before, hoping they'll now listen. "Attack only the undead, except yourselves!"
Charisma, vs. the other controller: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
GM Chyro |
Clair, you'll roll a cha check for each undead you're giving a conflicting command to, other than move around, so a second please for green.
So looking back...
Failing save: blue (becomes controlled)
Failing save: green (becomes controlled)
HD of control reached.
Purple (independant, gets blasted down by Vassago.)
Red (independant, gets cut down by Sele)
That should be about it.
Clair cuts into the zombie before her.
Blue is compelled to move towards the nearby zombies.
But will need continuous cha checks to attack them.
Vassago

Zombie (-13)
Clair Vavassour |
Charisma for green: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Need a 2nd roll for the other zombie? Sure, I'll just repeat the 1st roll! xD
GM Chyro |
Green shuffles onwards towards the fighting crowd.
Other zombie swings its fetid fist at Clair.
Slam vs Clair: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26Dmg: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Crit?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26Dmg: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Clair gets slammed hard, but she still stands, on the skin of her teeth.
--------------------------------------------
The fighting continues, blood splatters and the fetid bloody head of a zombie rolls past your feet. The pleads for help are cut off as the zombies eat away at the terrified public, who accidentally trample one another in the chaos, or trip each other to distract zombies from themselves.

Other zombie (-13)
Kenji Nishida |
Since blue and green seem to be non-combatants, Kenji strikes at the 'other zombie'.
to hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
dmg if hits: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
flurry attack if close enough to reach the other zombie with a 5' step (can't seem to get the map to load - it's my internet, having trouble with other maps too, not just this one):
to hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
dmg if hits: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
never mind the flurry attack - restarted my computer and all is working now and had to move more then 5' to get to the other zombie, so no flurry... sigh
