Martina sucked her teeth scornfully. "Goblins! Why is it always goblins?!"

Dropping her torch for the time being, she turned to her horse and a shouted "Defend the little ones!" before drawing her sword and moving up the path to confront the goblin and his cur.

The goblin dog (with the goblin riding it) takes a step backwards, and the two disappear from view, almost as if the darkness inside the Spire is engulfing any light that tries to permeate it.

It is? Asks the gnome. Lets see if we can get some light in there,

Jubal moves 20ft up the trail (as long as eveyone else does) and casts Dancing lights into the darkness.


As you cast the spell, the light does illuminate the area immediately around it, though not as much as it should. As it moves into the darkness, it the darkness seems to swallow it up. You catch a glimpse of the goblin and goblin dog as the light moves by.

Your spell will only provide a 5-foot radius of light, and is doing so more than 5 feet into the room, which is why you can't see it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe you can actually cast spells on people, Barrakhan. You can drink your extract, but others aren't effected by it.

As far as I know you're correct Gaius, unless he gets a discovery called Infusion which basically turns his extracts into potions other people can drink.


Red:
You are pretty sure there some sort of powerful transmutation magic going on inside the tower, but other than that, you're unsure. It's not a spell being cast by anyone at the moment—it's some sort of at least semi-permanent effect placed on the spire.

Seeing the goblin dog bounding out of the darkness, Rilka makes her way up and around close to the creature, striking out with her starknife.

Martina sneered at the toothy abomination riding atop his hideous mount. "Is this what passes for a Goblin Knight? Have at you, cur!" she cried, thrusting her blade towards the goblin.

Martina's blade catches the goblin with her sword and wounds him. The dog attacks Martina in return, but misses badly. It takes a step back, and both the dog and rider vanish into the darkness once more. As if waiting for the perfect moment, an arrow flies toward Rilka from the direction of the recently-disappeared goblin. It connects with the halfling's arm, slicing it open.

Rilka takes 4 damage from the arrow. The goblin delayed, so now it is next to its mount in initiative. Rilka and Barrakhan can act.

Dirty little cheat

Rilka curses as the arrow slices through her arm. Looking into the darkness she can't make out where the arrow came from, but she notices that Barrakhan seems to be able to see.

She whispers as she reaches over to touch Barrakhan, granting him a bit of power from Desna.

Barrakhan, were are they? call Jubal from the back of the party. He then listens for the half-orc and for the any hint of where the goblins might be. Once he feel like he has a general idea he moves forward reciting an incantation. Once he is next to Barrakhan he extends his hands to send out a sheet of fire into the darkness in the excitement of combat he stutters of the words and nothing but smoke comes from his fingers.

Though still not as effective as it should be, Red's spell helps illuminate the room. Rather than gradually dimming, though, the light is swallowed up by the darkness after 5 feet. Jubal's dancing lights also illuminates the back section of the room.

From the darkness to the northeast comes an arrow once more. It barely catches Barrakhan, wounding him.
