Valgrim and Achmed both miss the caster!
Kinn!
GM thunderspirit |
Mordenaar's thoughts include mass kobold death. They also include better armor.
While visions of armor plums dance in his head...
Kinn |
Kinn takes advantage of the opportunity to press the attack once again. He calls to his allies, "Sarenrae has graced me with power -- distract him!"

Theeeeeere we go. Lol. Thanks for the assist, Valgrim!
Endar the Entertainer |
Endar also dreams of kobold death.
GM thunderspirit |
Mordenaar and Endar's finest dreams come true as Kinn smites Chief Roaghaz in two!
Out of combat!
Chief Roaghaz has a wand of web (4 charges remaining), one more scroll of glitterdust, and he wears a cloak of fangs. Two locked chests (which Endar can open by taking 10) can be found here; one holds a total of 1895 gp value in assorted coinage, while the other holds six large green scales and an even larger black scale.
GM thunderspirit |
Upon returning to Belhaim, you can all go to level 3!
Mordenaar |
Mordenaar is in a sour mood most of the way back.
Once he gets a meal in his belly he lightens up considerably, even if it is straight to business. "thank you. I owe you all my life. Who desires the treasures we've recovered? I know not of their powers. I DO know that I'd like to protect myself better. "
out and about until tonight. I'll update to level 3 then.

Dungeon Master S |
The cloak is pretty sweet. Should go to melee, I don't see Kinn with it though :-)

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Once Endar awakens, he stabs the kobolds' bodies a few times for good measure, then helps carry the dragon scales back to town. Then he lies down and sleeps for a week to regain his strength. LOL
Valgrim |
is the gold spoken for to someone outside the group or is it ours to divide? the Web and Glitterdust items we could use, but we should sell the cloak of fangs...
Achmed Ifit |
"I can use the scroll"
- - - -
Achmed also rests for a few days and enjoys a few hot meals with his companions.
Glad no one died. Is there a log of the treasure in the thread?

It was not explicitly said, but the understanding is that you guys get to keep what you find, unless specifically instructed otherwise.
As for a loot list: Mordenaar is usually Johnny-on-the-spot with that sort of thing (uncannily so, LOL).

It comes from cutting my teeth on 1st edition. Back when the thought of BUYING a magic item was anathema. To think, BUYING a potion of Cure Light Wounds! The grognard in me swoons.
Mordenaar |
If I'm not mistaken a natural primary attack means you get it in addition to your normal melee? So I could make two gladius stabs and a bite without suffering penalty? If that's the case, Mordenaar would totally use it (especially if flanking, since he now has Sneak Attack. (if all 3 hit it'd be d6+3+d6+3+d6+4+3d6 or 6d6+10)
Kinn |
It's still a cloak of resistance +1 if nothing else. I say we hang on to it now regardless. Who is wearing the other cloak we discovered?
"We should report our success to the Lady," Kinn states matter-of-factly. He wipes kobold blood from his blade and stares at it a moment.
Let's get a loot list document going somewhere. I can put together a GoogleDoc later today or tomorrow. Unless Mordenaar has already started?
GM thunderspirit |
The return trip to Devy Manor is uneventful, if somewhat achy in light of your recent battles. Lady Origena greets you shortly after your arrival, requesting a thorough account of your mission.
Kinn |
"Good day," Kinn begins by way of greeting. "We return to report success in encouraging the kobolds to relocate. A great many were slain -- 33, to be precise -- including their Chieftan, a grim and malicious fellow who went by the name Roaghaz. We liberated three slaves who should have arrived in Belhaim by now. We also encountered a peaceful kobold, who has agreed to lead the tribe on to emptier lands where they will not both the people of Belhaim gain."
"Now, Chief Roaghaz stated that he was the servant of Lord Aeteperax. Do you know that name? And do these scales which we found mean anything to you?"
Diplomacy to Improve Attitude: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
GM thunderspirit |
Lady Origena listens intently to Kinn's words. She expresses some obvious concern about leaving the kobolds alive, and asks several probing questions about Nighttail. After some time, Kinn's confidence in the course of action (combined with his Diplomacy check) assuages her fears somewhat, though she is quick to point out that if Nighttail fails to keep her promise, the consequences will be on the party's head. She gives you the promised reward.
Her face darkens considerably when Kinn mentions the name Aeteperax. Hmm, that's the name of a great dragon slain by Lady Tula Belhaim some thousand years ago. She is the founder of our town. She thinks a moment, then seems to come to a decision. I would ask you to keep this name quiet for now; rumors that the old dragon may not have been slain after all is the last thing we need, particularly in light of a new development.
After the wizard Hunclay perished, word was sent via raven to his only living relative, a cousin in Yanmass. Just this morning, her reply arrived; she doesn't seem all that distraught at his death, and has no interest in coming to Belhaim to claim his estate and belongings. Instead, she has requested that we auction off all of Hunclay's property and possessions so that the proceeds can be sent to her (less expenses, of course).
This leaves us with the daunting task of cataloguing the contents of Hunclay's manor home. Which means entering the place and exploring its interior, an enterprise that could entail considerable danger. The old man was something of a foul-tempered recluse, and word around town is that his manor was warded by magical traps and guarded by monsters. The fate of the kobold who burned to death on his front porch has only added to those fears.
The Lady take a deep breath before continuing. I wonder whether you would be interested in taking on another job for Belhaim — exploring Hunclay's manor and identifying any unusual or magical items there, while simultaneously deactivating traps and dealing with any monstrous guardians. Now in this case I can't allow you to simply loot the place, but I can offer a flat fee for this service; say, 1,000 gp for each of you, plus free admission to the auction held afterward?
Mordenaar |
Mordenaar rolls her words around a bit before replying, "The reward seems fair, but a trap gets deadly real fast, and the potential expenses get big real quick. Can you spare any gear to help us with the task?" He turns away before turning back, "How do you feel about half now and half after?"
Unless someone speaks up, I'll add the cloak to Mordenaar's sheet. I'm going to hold out for a bit more. With the cloak I think the slayer would be more keen to make his blades sharper. After all the best defense is a dead opponent.
Valgrim |
back and updated and ready to go
"Seems like a risky venture. If we are to do this then we will need all the information regarding the manor, all known traps, a layout if possible. Anything that can help us 'explore' the manor."
GM thunderspirit |
Good heavens, my man, Lady Devy says, taken quite aback by Mordenaar's request. Half for nothing? You have demonstrated considerable skill thus far, but I know not near enough to give away something for nothing.
She considers Valgrim's inquiry more reasonable. Wise thinking. Hunclay Manor is the newest building in Belhaim; its construction was assisted by the stonemason, Gregol Lenton. You can check with him at his shop in town.
Kinn |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Kinn considers the tenor of the woman's words and smiles an imperceptible smile. "Perhaps half is too much to ask," Kinn chuckles, "but an advance would go a long way in our preparations, and could mean the difference between life and death for us, and success and failure for you. Perhaps you could spare a quarter now, with the rest upon a completed catalogue?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29 BOOM
GM thunderspirit |
Lady Devy chuckles slightly at Kinn's response. I take, from this negotiation, that the job is accepted, then? She calls for an assistant, who brings in a piece of parchment. Twenty percent in advance, no more, she states matter-of-factly, grasping a quill and writing something down.
She slides the parchment across the table when finished; it is an employment contract outlining 5000 gp payment with a still-wet indication of a 1000 gp advance, and direction to exercise every possible caution to leave items inside the manor intact and undamaged. Her signature, also still wet, is on the bottom alongside five empty lines. With a genuine smile, she holds out the quill.
GM thunderspirit |
Kinn detects no evil in Lady Devy, and Mordenaar scans the contract — its language is spare, with little room for a loophole. He does not suspect any monkey business going on.
Endar the Entertainer |
"Seems reasonable enough to my, my friends. Thank you for your generosity, my lady!"
Diplom: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Kinn |
Kinn whistles a bit to himself as he goes to find an armorer, where he picks out a nice shiny breastplate for himself. He even gets it embossed with sun motifs.
"Well, let's get on with it then."
GM thunderspirit |
Okay, all five signed and done. Kinn's done a bit of shopping. What's on the party's agenda now?
Kinn |
"We may wish to visit the stonemason first," Kinn counters. "Gregol Lenton was the name, I believe."
