Cirri thinks for a moment.
"Okay, the stairs are thirty feet up, right? Rika pulled the rope marked 20. Firaxis pulled the rope marked 4. So if we pull this rope..."

Cirri heads toward rope number 5, with the number "6" engraved above it. "Then that adds up to 30. Everyone hold onto something, we're going to float up there!"

Cirri tugs on chain number 5.

Climb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

Blooming Catastrophe Return to Grave

Cirri tugs on yet a third chain just before the water grows too deep for her to easily maintain her footing. The large slab before her turns as well, letting loose what she assumes is more water into the room (though its hard too tell as the base level is rapidly rising above the gap between the slab's opening and the floor).

As a few of you begin chewing on air crystals, Rika's grappling hook proves surprisingly useful, as she secures it to the stairwell above and quickly climbs upwards. The rest of you manage to grab hold and begin your ascent as well, making your way towards the raised stepped platform even as you squeeze in atop it.

How is Pratts getting along Rika? Swim checks?

After a few seconds, the slab Firaxus played with swings back down until it is flush with the floor once again. Cirri' slab spins shortly thereafter, but the granite barrier Rika moved remains askew for quite longer before finally moving back to rest. All the while, the chamber's water level continues to rise until it is just flush with the bottom of the short stairs. Cirri and Mido notice the fluid flowing in and out of the first set of holes in the wall. As they do so, the door behind you begins to slide upwards, revelaing a chamber beyond.

The puzzle has been solved! (with you avoiding the trap if you don't understand it or are just bad at math)

Crudely carved stonework expands into a dank circular chamber. Twin torches on both the eastern and western ends of the cavern illuminate a large stone slab that resides in the northern portion of the chamber. Littering the area around the slab are all manner of strange offerings, ranging from chipped skulls, ancient coins, strange pearls, crude tools, and broken pieces of art. Among all the treasures on the makeshift altar, the largest item appears to be an open tome of the most immaculate bone-white shade. From the tome comes an ear-shattering hymn—a chorus which sings the most beautiful of melodies. The sound in here is almost deafening, making it extremely hard to hear one another.

DC 15 Perception to hear each other, and a 10% failure chance on spells with verbal components

Behind the 'altar' stands a handsome but pale humanoid, whose muscular physique trails off into eight writhing octopoidal tentacles where his legs should be. Spear in hand, he stares at you but makes no movement, continuing to chant and hold his hands over the book.

And that was a long post :p

While Cirri is stumped at identifying the odd-looking figure, Firazus and Mido recognize the creature as a Cecaelia. Human-octopus hybrids that live and hunt near coastlines and coral reefs, cecaelia are quite rare in the Inner Sea, with spotting of them generally found in distant Tian Xia. Their tentacles let them swim easily, generate clouds of obscuring ink in water, grab prey, and create strange sensory nets underwater.

While Rika manages to begin casting her spell Just the brakskin before his response, the cecaelia looks up and you and yells out in a strange tongue.

Opportune Parry and Riposte (Ex): At 1st level, when an opponent makes a melee attack against the swashbuckler, she can spend 1 panache point and expend a use of an attack of opportunity to attempt to parry that attack. The swashbuckler makes an attack roll as if she were making an attack of opportunity; for each size category the attacking creature is larger than the swashbuckler, the swashbuckler takes a –2 penalty on this roll. If her result is greater than the attacking creature's result, the creature's attack automatically misses. The swashbuckler must declare the use of this ability after the creature's attack is announced, but before its attack roll is made. Upon performing a successful parry and if she has at least 1 panache point, the swashbuckler can as an immediate action make an attack against the creature whose attack she parried, provided that creature is within her reach. This deed's cost cannot be reduced by any ability or effect that reduces the number of panache points a deed costs.

Wadi sighs as the noise ruins his spell. This place, along with the Archive Library, was rapidly becoming his least favorite place on Golarion.

Muttering softly to himself he intones another spell, sending a pair of fiery bolts into the strange humanoid.

Blooming Catastrophe Return to Grave

A simple standard action will be fine Friaxus.

As Firaxus dives towards the book and slams the cover of the Celestial Song shut, the angelic chrous cuts off in an instant. Na-Kraka lets out an aggreived cry that echoes throughout the now quiet chamber. His yell is cut off quickly however, as the combined swings of Cirri, Rika, Pratts, Mido, an arrow from Nergi, and bolts from Wadi strike him until he falls to the ground, unmoving.

COMBAT OVER

The chamber now stands quiet except for the heavy breathes of your party and the lapping of water from the room behind you, with Firaxus's hand atop the closed Celestial Song.

Looking around the small chamber, you easily notice that the makeshift stone altar is littered with seeminlgy random knick-knacks and valuables. Among the assorted coins and trinkets and scrimshaw you also spy a glistening pearl (pearl of power (2nd level)), an bright sapphire (elemental gem (water)), and a silver raven figurine of wondrous power.

The book in Firaxus' hand has a strange indentation in the thick cover - one that appears to match a raised design protruding out from the cover of the Infernal Incantation in Wadi's pack.

If no one objects, Cirri holds the pearl above her head and concentrates. It becomes more dull as she focuses. "Great!"

"Uh...hmm. The tunnels we were in is still flooded, right? I have no idea how to drain this." Cirri notices the indentation on the books. "What happens if we put these together?"

Some of the mentions of the twin volumes I have seen in various religious codexs say that the pair can be sealed by pressing each cover against each other. As Wadi places the two books together Nergi jumps in and yells Ollysta's phrase, hoping it's not too late. She seems to make it in time (or 'Nirvix' was not important after all), as when the Song and the Incantation are pressed together a bright band of light dances across the seam between the two books before fading just as quickly. The two volumes are securely linked.

Listening to the sound of the water behind you, now that the angelic song has faded you hear the distant grinding of chain links and gears. Enough of you are wise enough that it occurs to you that whoever designed these floodgates was unlikely to make them permanent - lest he be trapped there as well. You suspect the room should 'reset' before too long.

Wadi wipes his brow in relief as the two volumes are joined together as one. "Sorry about jumping the mark there, I forgot the need for the command word there" He smiles sheepishly at Nergi.

Putting the volumes back into his bag he adds, "I think these books need to be deposited back in the Archive. They should be safe there.", securing the ties for the pack in reply.

"Now, let's get out of here."

Blooming Catastrophe Return to Grave

The seven of you spend plenty of time making sure that the chamber is entirely searched and scoured, then sit and wait. No one ever said exploring, reporting and cooperating was exciting all the time. After about ten minutes, the two un-chained slabs open once more, with the room’s water quickly flowing through the new-open portals and draining from the room.

Eventually, you make your way back through the gillmen tunnels (still mostly deserted, but far more damp), and after a trek arrive back at the Grand Lodge. Amara Li is uncharacteristically emotional with gratitude as you return, and calls a servant in to tend to your wounds once she notices your scuffed and bruised appearances. She carefully takes the two tomes from Wadi and places them in a thick lead-lined case. ”Thank goodness you have returned, and with the Incantation sealed. We will be careful with this, I assure you. There is much we can learn from the Infernal Incantation and the Celestial Song, but in a controlled environment to make sure…incidents such as this are not repeated. Miss Dralneen has already assured me she is preparing safeguards; I’ve no idea how that woman hears of things so quickly but I suspect she keeps far closer tabs on her colleagues than is proper.” Li’s expression furrows a bit at the last bit before she breaths a relieved sigh and looks at each of you.

”So, you succeeded obviously. But I heard reports of some devils loose in the streets. Is there anything else I should be concerned with?”
