In walks a man of rigid posture and stern countenance. He stands just under 2 meters in height, but is thin of frame. He is undoubtedly of Osiriani birth (and indeed his Taldane is slightly accented.) His pate is shaved clean, though he sports a meticulously maintained mustache and Van D!@+ beard. His clothes, obviously tailored, have the flowing fit of a desert dweller, but they are in rich black cloth of Vudrani styling. Racing throughout the folds and seams are cerulean highlights. His jewelry is simple, yet the quantity stands in contrast to the otherwise plain garb. Both his ears are pierced with gold and his fingers each bear simple golden rings.
This is Nemis.

A tall Chelaxian with distinctive features casually strolls in. His face is smirking, as he seems quite pleased with himself. He notices Nemis and looks the man up and down, sizing him up. "It seems that doing personal favors for the Paracountess brings both rewards and extra duties. Interesting how they can be both dreadful and enticing."

He gives a small nods of his head. "I'm Aiden."

No worries, we still got some time until January the 13th :)

Friendly reminder:

Instructions to the table GMs for multi-table scenarii wrote:
Since the results of each table have an impact on the success or failure of the collective House, Table GMs should encourage players to be proactive, even if a particular encounter seems daunting. Their involvement (or lack thereof ) can have an impact on the rest of the House. Players should also be made aware that at certain points, they may be able to interact with or assist other tables to achieve a goal together.

This is a timed event, please do your best to post at least once or twice a day and everything will run smoothly :)

I'll do my best as well!

A...strange figure makes its way itnto the room. The strikingly red hair and wide-featured face makes the entrant look like a gnome, but it rises five and a half feet off the ground. Wearing a cloak that trails down to the floor, the man makes his way oddly slowly toward the two other humans.

"Hello!" the man says brightly. He continues at the breakneck pace"Fancy day for a contest, right? It is a contest we're here for? Or something? The briefings were a bit vague? Do you think its an art contest? I just got some practice in on those and it went great - except for the murders of course."

The man looks around, confused. "Quiet types here, are we? The mum always said a little silence made her nice and happy, but every time I looked at the she seemed to be frowning."

He cocks his head attentively, seemingly in reaction to nothing. No, I don't think its that. There's a way-whatever here anyway. Besides, I look just like the rest. What? Oh, of course! You're right, how rude.

The figure straightens up and gives a quick bow that almost seems to throw him off-balance.

"Forgot to say the name out loud again. Whoops! It's Fimbir! Like the sound!"

Perception 5:
The gnome before you has his feet strapped to two foot high stilts, poorly covered up beneath an oversized cloak.

"There's an arena?" Fimbir says surprised. He frowns and then nervously excuses himself.

Minutes later the gnome returns - this time a foot shorter (but still walking on uplifting poles). A separate pair of stilts pole from his bag.

"And some magic. I guess. Mostly the one type: burning. But I can do that pretty well! Oh, and if we need to clobber some ruffians," he fishes in his sack and pull out a somewhat rusty jointed stick that looks like a metal arm "this might be more contest friendly, right?"

As the other Pathfinders chat amongst themselves, a small creature emerges from the shadows of the room, where he had been intently studying the others. Those not paying attention probably didn't even know anyone else was there. The small wayang is just over 3 feet in height, and covered in an old grey cloak. His features are tough to make out, as his face always seems to be covered in shadow. When he begins to talk, it comes out as a low gravely whisper "Hmmmph, what's our purpose? Like to be prepared. Will make more concoctions if needed." He comes across a bit gruff and would much rather focus on the task at hand than niceties.

Fimbir gives a big shrug to the wayang. The motion causes his cloak to settle even more poorly, making the stilts now utterly obvious.

"I'm not exactly sure yet. It's something to do with the Ruby Phoenix contest though. Maybe we'll need to get a phoenix egg! Or cook a phoenix egg. You know concoctions: what seasonings do you think would go well with poached phoenix? It's probably already spicy, so I don't think too much pepper."

A middle-aged half-elf woman approaches your group, carrying some papers in her hands. When she sees you, she smiles lightly. She has a natural grace and looks attractive, she seems to display manners that show a noble legacy. She's dressed with an adventurer's outfit, however displaying the chelish red and black colors, and when you hear her voice, you sense she trained for years in the art of opera and singing.

"Ah there you are! Nice to meet you, agents. My name is Noravia Starnon, of House Starnon. I am Venture-Lieutenant from the newly reformed Wiscrani pathfinder lodge." Seeing that you don't know anything about what she's talking, she laughs lightly and puts back behind her ear a lock of black hair.

"But I see we have a very diversified group here! Please tell me more about who you are and your last adventure. And yes, I'll be your overseer for this moment of... getting to know ourselves better. Oh! Another question, have you heard about the Ruby Phoenix Tournament?" she says with a giggle.

"Fimbir miss. And we were just talking about it. As best we can tell it's either an arena contest or a cooking competition. The jury is still out."

"If it's culinary, I just got back from Galt and picked up some tips about cooking pumpkins from a nice little festival! Well, mostly nice. Except for the murders. But I did make some more friends!" Aiden bows to Noravia. It wouldn't suit the Paracountess for him to behave rudely, and he certainly wouldn't to a Chelaxian noblewoman. "Good morning, Venture-Lieutenant. So, a lodge is reforming in Westcrown? Interesting."

"I'm Aiden Richter. I was a tracker in Cheliax before...well, before the Paracountess found me. Now, I'm a bit of a finder for her and the Society." He holds up the curved knife. "I do a bit of this and a bit of that. I'm pretty good with this blade, and even better with the other one."

***OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT

Overseer thread

Decemvirate Speaker

”The Decemvirate are truly grateful that so many of you have answered this summons to the Grand Lodge, for they, above all, know the trying lives that field agents endure. Indeed, you have only to look about this courtyard and gaze upon your colleagues to know they have come from all ends of Golarion to be among us. Look not grim, but rather determined, for this summons is not one brought of dire threat or terrible consequence. No! The Decemvirate has instead summoned you to taste the opportunity to enter the greatest contest of martial arts the world has ever known—the Ruby Phoenix Tournament”

”The legacy of Tian Xia’s legendary mystic arcanist, the nearly immortal Grandmaster Hao Jin, the Ruby Phoenix Tournament is held only once every ten years. The Tournament is run by Sifu Xho Nuo, Emissary of the Ruby Phoenix and sole heir to Hao Jin’s secrets. The prize for victory: an artifact pulled from Hao Jin’s fabled collection of the greatest wonders Golarion has ever known”

”Though Xho Nuo has made no formal announcement, we have learned the sifu has chosen to hold the qualifying round for this decade’s tournament here in Absalom. The Pathfinder Society has long sought to send one of its members to compete in this tournament. If our information is true, this means that for the first time, the Society has the opportunity to qualify a good number of its field agents. While the chance to glean an artifact from Hao Jin’s collection is enticing, that is hardly the entirety of our goal. However, I shall speak more on this subject at a later time”

”At present, we have learned that Xho Nuo plans to host a covert meeting to address all would-be contestants. Don’t get too excited though; it’s supposedly being held at a decrepit tavern in the Docks called the Devil’s Dregs. Go there and see what details you can pick up about the competition and the other entrants, but watch your backs. There’s little law to protect you down on the wharves, and it’d take a riot to raise any attention. Oh, and I wouldn’t expect an appearance from Xho Nuo either, as his social status prevents him from contact with such filthy and common places. My guess is that he’ll send one of his agents to rile up as many lowlifes as possible to serve as fodder for the first round of the contest”

”Lastly, though its likely Xho Nuo is aware of our interest in the competition, we need all our agents to maintain as much secrecy as possible. For all we know, he has deliberately chosen Absalom to bait our interests, so it’s imperative that he identify as few of our agents as possible. From here out, to keep our affiliations covert, we request all of you make arrangements for your stay outside the Grand Lodge. Try to pick a place that’s low key to avoid attention. Don’t worry about the cost though. The Decemvirate will pick up the tab. Good luck.”

Welcome to the Multi-Table special – Blood under Absalom, we are now underway!

A man with heavily angelic features stands to one side as the woman speaks, taking notes in a small personal journal and making certain to capture names, places, and other important information.

Once it has completed, he nods, adding "While I'm not sure I will be of much use in either this tavern or a martial arts competition, I shall do my upmost to defend my fellow agents and see that we all return."

"I am simply called Archon, as that is the realm to which I came to be, and whose ideals I uphold. It is a pleasure to meat you all, and I hope that my endeavors find a place within this team."

The man seems to have odd religious iconography on his flesh, at first appearing as some sort of birthmark or even scars on what bits of flesh can be seen beneath his chain armor, but also seems to radiate a nearly physical sense of calm, peace, and friendship. At his waist hangs a few magical twigs, indicating some sort of magic caster, and likely a religious one, while at his other hip hangs a simply small scepter of silver. on his back, his main weapon, more for defense and protection of others than outright aggression, is a well kept, but likewise well used longspear.

Know Religion DC 15:
The strange celestial and religious glyphs or pictograms are actually a holy symbol, albeit it a very uncommon, if not unheard of divinity called Arqueros. A faith that appeals to bodyguards and defenders as it focuses on ideals such as protection, watchfulness, and guardianship.

All around you, vendors are packing up their carts. A gnome with wands is throwing them back in the barrel, and a wayang with a stand full of alchemical supplies has started putting away his potions and vials.

Slide three

In a quiet, rundown section of the Docks, you spot a weathered wooden sign hanging above a wide alcove that reads “Devil’s Dregs.” The area outside the tavern smells like what you’d expect... weathered wood and old fish. A pair of thick double doors within the alcove lead into the tavern. It looks like the word is out that something is happening here. Small teams, some of them that you recognize as fellow Pathfinders, and some that you do not, are streaming into the place.

Are you scouting it, or walking straight in?

Varuna goes in steathily but his approach might be compromised by Aiden's poor attempt to help as he seems to wink heavily in Varuna's direction. All of you safely get in and squeeze between the crowd to find some place. Fimbir and Aiden have an ale served, as the barmaid doesn't seem to bother with drink names.

Despite its sizable taproom, the Devil’s Dregs seems filled to capacity. The smells of cheap ale, unwashed bodies, and thick pipe smoke mix in the crowded room, as tightly squeezed contestants push and shove their way about the tavern. As one might expect in the Docks district, the tavern extends over the harbor, and beneath the floor lies the silty, brackish water of Absalom’s wide bay. The dim light of the tavern’s few lanterns exposes few specifics about the patrons or the surroundings.

Right now, everyone’s milling restlessly. You think that if you want seats, you may need to grab them now.

Can everyone place yourselves accordingly to your description on Slide Three?

Varuna and Fimbir notice a number of potential exits. Aside from the front doors from the shore, a set of double doors leads out of the tavern onto rickety piers in the center of both the east and west walls, and a number of windows look out over the harbor to the south. For those who swim, the quickest exit may be the pool in the middle of the floor. You’ve also noticed some sort of service exit, but it seems attached to a storage area behind the bar.

***OVERSEER ANNOUCEMENT***

Overseer thread

Kiang Zhen

Without warning, a flash of smoke flares up from the center of the tavern floor. As it clears, a towering, golden-skinned humanoid of hideous and terrifying countenance steps forth, ebon teeth gleaming fiendishly. Standing before the crowd, she greets them with a slow and gracious bow, yet her eyes never look away.

The creature gestures to call the crowd’s attention, and one by one they fall silent.

“Good evening and allow me to introduce myself, I am called Kiang Zhen. My sifu, Xho Nuo, the Emissary of the Ruby Phoenix, wishes for me to tell all of you that he is most pleased to see so many of you eager to attend the tournament. It is his desire that everyone please find a table and make yourselves comfortable at his expense.”

The room becomes increasingly packed as contestants file in, and barely a minute later arriving contestants quickly fill all remaining tables leaving the tavern with standing room only – yet more and more continue to fill the place out – it is tightly packed and it is a struggle to both keep a hold of your own food and drink as well as dodging the spilled food and drink of others.

A short time later…

”Again, your attention please. I regret to inform all of you that Sifu Xho Nuo will not be present this evening, though he has appointed me to speak on his behalf.”

”To speak with candor, there are many who wish the Sifu dead and wish to steal from him the ancient secrets he was appointed to guard. This comes as no surprise to the Emissary, for he has been charged with the protection of a great and terrible power. Even now, in this very room, some of these same individuals sit amongst us. To them I say, Sifu knows who you are and fears you not. He even entreats you to join the Ruby Phoenix Tournament, for he shall not compromise the primary intention of the contest – to find the world’s greatest martial artist. Rest assured, this tournament shall test the mettle of its contestants, regardless of their intentions. Competition shall be fierce and violent without regard for contestants lives. That is your concern – not mine, not the Emissary’s. Those who fail might be lucky enough to walk away with their lives. For this reason, there are few places where our tournament is truly welcome. Thus, given the nature of the tournament and other circumstances, the Emissary has expressed to me the need to retain secrecy. However, I assure you he shall make an appearance before the end of the qualifying round.”

”Lastly, I have noticed many of you have come as teams. This is good, for initially, you may need help from allies you trust.” The beast pauses for a moment, letting his dark, pupil-less gaze hover upon the crowd. From his belt he unfastens a leather satchel and holds it aloft before the crowd. “I have here 100 rubies. On the morrow, fifty of these rubies will begin to glow, and those individuals or groups in possession of one such gem shall be contacted by one of our agents, who will give them the details of where the first event of the qualifier will take place.” then with a wide and wild grin he says “And so it begins!”

On his final words, he tosses the bag into the air, sending the rubies scattering everywhere. The next moment, he vanishes, leaving behind only a vaporous wisp.

Overseer beat me to the punch. Nemis would have been close to a door, as is his nature.

Nemis watches the scene unfold, and quickly calculates his best bet to snag a ruby. He starts with mage hand

Rubies are flying everywhere in the air! Nemis wants to cast a spell but he's not swift enough! As your dazzled by the display, hundreds of people in this room are now scrambling on the floor.

SURPRISE ROUND

If you are have combat reflexes (or some other feat or class feature that prevents you from being flat-footed) you may act in the surprise round to catch a ruby flying through the air with a DC 22 reflex save.

ROUND ONE

Everyone may roll perception checks. If you get a 20 or better, you find a shimmering ruby rolling around on the floor. Go to it!

Varuna uses his small stature while Zheng speaks to wiggle his way through the crowd, trying to get a good vantage point. As soon as the monsterous creature tosses the rubies into the air, Varuna's instincts kick in and he snatches one out of the air. His eye catches another ruby bounce off a worn boot and his other hand reaches out to grab it.

Not sure if I have to do something else to grab the one he sees or if it's automatic.

Fimbir's eyes dart around the room as he scurries about. Underfoot from the larger men and woman around, the gnome apologizes even as he races past them as competitors. "Sorry. Excuse me. Exciting contest isn't it? Hope to see you in the next part."

Spotting a ruby tucked away in a corner, he loudly points in a different direction and says "Red gem! Get it!" before rushing to pick up I think? Is there another action involved at the moment besides spotting it? his own jewel.
