Yesteryear's Truth

The adventure starts out as a group of individuals come together on a transport vessel known at the The Okimoro. Whether they are natives to the station, returning after a visit else where or a first timer to Absalom Station, they all have been summoned by the same person. A dwarven Starfinder by the name of Duravor Kreel, with a simple note, We shall meet in Docking Bay 94.

The flight itself is routine. The shuttle makes it way through and approaches a set of starlike arms, which circle the station. Final docking procedures take a couple of minutes. The attendants walk up and down the aisles and a welcome greeting plays over the intercom.

The brightly lit docks of Absalom Station are abuzz with activity as travelers bustle by, preparing to board or disembarking from starships bound to or from any of dozens of worlds. Brash and swaggering starpilots, scurrying ysoki mechanics, and expectant colonists mingle with enigmatic kasatha mystics, hard-faced asteroid miners, imposing vesk mercenaries, and more, creating a microcosm of the abundance and variety of life in the Pact Worlds. New arrivals meet friends, loved ones, or business contacts, and are whisked away into the humming activity of daily life on the vast space station. Beyond them, ground crews tend to the docked ships, and dockworkers in mechanized cargo lifters load and unload freight and baggage. A sharp tang of ozone hangs in the air—a byproduct of electrical discharges from the docked ships—but underneath, the station’s atmosphere has a slightly used aroma. The docking bay’s deck plates thrum beneath your feet, though whether it’s from the passage of innumerable feet or the vibrations of the station’s power conduits and air recycling systems is impossible to say.

Zeigris: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Yannick: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

Standing in the middle of the bay is Kreel, tall and lanky for a dwarf, with a bristly, iron-gray beard and deep-set eyes beneath bushy eyebrows. With his patched and stained coveralls, the dwarf looks like just another dockworker, but a badge bearing the symbol of the Starfinder Society stands out on his chest. The dwarf keeps checking his data pad and searching the crowd. He finally sees the ones he was looking for, and begins to wave at them trying to get there attention.

All but Zeigris notice the Kreel, but before the group can acknowledge the dwarf, the air is filled with laser fire, as rival gangs use the dock as a warzone.

Good way to break the ice and see what these characters can do. There are two gangs, it says to try and dissuade you from fighting both gangs at once, since it makes it a higher tier combat. That being said the reddish is one and the bluer ones is the other.

Zeigris Wilsu is a wiry fellow with a slightly distracted nature. The others in their little group had likely noticed he always spoke and acted as if something else was taking up just a little bit more of his time then the conversation at hand. He seemed pleasant enough anyways. Soft-spoken, willing to discuss anything technological at hand, and interested in the current events of the Pact Worlds as a whole.

He isn't particularly a well kept man, however. There are a couple days of growth on his face and his hair looks like he'd been trying to charge himself at a battery station. His clothing was modest and didn't overtly scream gang member or criminal element despite his past, more a confused, tinkering scientist that tried to keep everything he may possibly need easily at hand. There are various, half complete gadgets attacked to his green overcoat and more hidden beneath. He wears a pair of goggles and when you've seen him pull them off his eyes one is clearly some sort of implant. A rune is etched over the pupil with circuitry, and more data streaks can be seen spidering over the white of the eye.

Ziggy had not been to Absalom Station -legally- in quite some time, and it's left him rather skittish for a lot of the trip into the dock. Even as they arrive he's searching out any familiar faces among security that might recognize him and come to give him an earful... as well as a boot back off the station.

He's so concerned about this he doesn't even notice the shootout until a shot of laser fire strikes the wall beside his head. He jumps in shock and turns to stare at carbon scoring where it struck. "Egads, that was close! I didn't think they were that mad at me!"

Maenala stretches her arms and sighs as she steps off The Okimoro, looking up at the transport ship. "That wasn't a bad ride, though those damn thrusters needed at least three more stabilization rigs. Did you feel the kickback on those things? Rough."

Bluish-purple in appearance, Maenala's face features an inverted triangle dotted with diamonds, a family marking. The two antennae damaya lashunta are known for poke out of her forehead, though they appear shorter than typical. She wears a light orange and white pilot's suit and black military boots.

Moving through Absalom Station, Maenala takes in the sights with curiosity. She'd been here before, but not for some time, and the energy and culture of the place had her feeling both safe and content. She grew excited at the opportunities here, whether it meant building the next hot starship to pilot, learning about her long-lost family, or discovering who she was and what she was meant to do. Nothing was off the table here.

Her reminiscing is interrupted as laser file suddenly fills the air. "We're in the crossfire, head to cover!" She runs ahead and perches behind a crate.

Awesome start. I'm not sure if the crates provide cover, but I'll move up to them.

Yesteryear's Truth

I'll call them partial cover. Hence why all the gang members all took to there spots.

Throughout the journey back from Diaspora, Yannick had been bouncing excitedly in his seat, reading through a battered notebook on interesting rock formations he discovered on the asteroid belt. Hearing the announcement over the intercom informing them of their imminent arrival to Absalom station, the pale Lashunta looks out of the shuttle's window to take in the site of Absalom station from the unique position of space. He had enjoyed his first journey away from the station, but was ready to return home to the workshop to test out new theories.

"Almost ready Zy, we will be docking soon. Sorry you had to go into the hold..." he whispers over the comm built into the rig over the right side of his face. Leaning back, Yannick pulls up the message from Kreel and smiles to himself. He had been contacted by the Dwarf during his trip to say that his application into the society was ready to be processed. Waiting to meet him as they get off the shuttle, Yannick rushed straight into the hold as they dock to collect his Draconian companion and disembark.

Standing with a few others he had learnt were also here to meet Kreel, Yannick starts as the laser bolts begin to fly and is frozen in panic. Luckily he is snapped out of it by a fellow Lashunta and he runs behind the closest crate, cowering. "Zy! help Kreel!" he calls out, sending his Drone rushing forwards towards the Dwarf.

Hrm, seems like a perfect place to put the background I wrote up already.

Starseeker Model G-607 is a combat android originally constructed in Absalom Station. Though many of the past souls inhabited by the Starseeker android are largely lost to history, the android's current soul is inhabited by a devout worshiper of Ibra. This iteration of the android came with interstellar powers. It was fortunate for these two to come together, matching the android's capabilities with the soul's expertise. G-607's goal is to show others that Ibra is a powerful being worthy of worship.

The machine may have combat prowess, but lacks some basic communication features common on more modern machinations. As an older model, sometimes those limitations can seem odd or off putting to others, but there's a certain charm that comes with the hyper-logical talk that is output by the communication system. However, the soul does have influence over communications so can output some lines of thought without coming off too mechanical.

This particular soul decided to stick with the Model number given on the android: G-607. It was a line created several centuries ago so many are not around anymore, and therefore can stick out as a somewhat unique name.

Upon the weapon fire...

He prefaces each statement with a descriptor, and speaks in a mechanical voice.

"Commentary: Unsure which side to help."

"Strategy: Photon Stance will be enabled and weapon protocol shall commence. Closest active shooter shall be targeted. Chance of cover unlikely. Will advance in the open."

Non-Action
G-607 activates the power of the stars, going into Photon Stance. Going to put that in his stat bar so I can track points...

Meanwhile, Zygex looks down at the scorching in his armour playing and makes a far too human tut as he does so. "Damn this weakly armoured form! I hope i don't have circuitry damage from this!" he groans, his voice a mettalic rasp. "So, what next oh destined ones!"

Maenela quickly slides her rifle back into its sling, rushing over to the security staff to assist in explaining the situation. When Zeigris mentions what's on the computer, Maenala speaks up. "What are the chances our names and ... what we look like ... is right here on this computer? Maybe it is destiny. Kinda creepy, though. Hmm. Come to think of it..."

"Chiskisk is a high-ranking Starfinder here on Absalom Station. And that what do you know? The address leads right to Lorespire Complex, the Society's HQ." Maenala bends over to pick up one of the pistols, checking the sights on it. As she's looking through it, she continues. "Come on, Yannick, you're gonna be fine. No one would mess with 602--err, 607. He's got our backs." She offers a hand to help him up. "It sounds like we know where to go, though, so let's get to it!"

"Hmm, the Kings and the 21s." More to himself, since the fight is breaking up he makes it a point to slink away to hide behind Zygex while the security team is being assuaged over the incident. This is when he takes the time to play with the computer he found and gather up whatever he can off the corpses while things are settling down.

Doesn't hurt to pad the pockets when the chance comes. He coughs at all the mention of destiny. "I'd say some divine source of manipulation is perhaps a far stretch. We were all likely asked to come here, and he was to meet us. It only makes sense for us to be on his computer so he can actually identify us." He pockets the piece of equipment for possible use later. "I do agree that we should head to this Lorespire and see exactly what they wanted us for. However..." His eyes distractedly wander over to Yannick's drone. "If I could have a moment with this large automaton, I think I can do something about his state of disrepair... and see how he works a bit as well. Doesn't hurt to understand these things."

Ziggy seems harmless enough, but his hands do begin to glow faintly as he tries to approach Zygex and tinker with his damaged bits while the scene settles.

Breathing deeply and still shivering, Yannick takes Maenala's hand and gets to his feet and fumbles for his pistol, placing it back in the holster at his hip. As the others go for the laser pistols, he lets them- he is happy with his battered sidearm for now and it makes sense for those not armed get first choice. Meekly following the Pilot towards his new allies, destined or not, he listens to the deliberations and nods.

"I-I agree." he stutters, still suffering a little. "W-we should tell them about Duravor's death. Thankyou for fixing Zygix..." he says to Zeigris.

"Much obliged. Now, despite our protests the security are still keeping an eye on us. Shall we?" Zygex states in their rasp.

Yesteryear's Truth

The group moves on out of the docks and start to head out to the Lorespire Complex.

The Lorespire Complex, located in Absalom Station’s Ring sector, is a campus with multiple buildings and rooms, though its eponymous spire is what people most associate with the Starfinder Society’s headquarters.

The doors of the complex open up and leads to a lavish receptionist area. A female lashunta looks up and smiles warmly at the PC's.

Welcome to the Lorespire Complex. My name is Kima, how can I assist you today?

Looking on in wonderment, Maenala smiles as she passes into Lorespire Complex. This was her first time setting foot in the headquarters of the Starfinder Society, and she'd heard great things about how they worked to benefit the Pact Worlds, even after the Scoured Stars incident. I'm assuming here that this is general knowledge, but could roll something either way

Stepping up to reception, Maenala greets Kima warmly. "Hi Kima, I'm Maenala Seplucher, and this is Yannick, Zeigris and his trusty drone, and G-607. We're looking to meet with Chiskisk. We unfortunately don't have an appointment, but this is urgent, trust me."

The Lashunta seems to enjoy helping people. Chiskisk is busy at the moment. But if you like to, you can have a seat in the waiting room. She points you to a small quiet waiting room.

Several minutes go by, a Shirren comes down, and enters the waiting room. It gestures to the group, You must be the ones here to CHiskisk, please come with me. The Shirren leads you down several hallways and into a cluttered but clean office.

Behind the desk is another Shirren seated behind a polished and unadorned plastic desk, who you assume is Chiskisk picture added to the slide, it wears understated business clothes and is nervously flexing their antennae from side to side.

I am Chiskisk. Please have a seat and some refreshments. It gestures to a stand with a pitcher of water and some wafers. Where is Kreel, he was to escort you here, did the dwarf get caught up somewhere.

Smiling weakly at the receptionist, Yannick gratefully sits in the waiting room and startsto tinker with Zygex's workings, deciding to see if there was any lasting damage. Fortunately, Zeigris 'magic touch' seemed to have solved much of the problem with the melted plating and the circuitry would be a quick repair. Yannick for his part seems to visually calm as he gets absorbed in the work, the tip of his tongue sticking between his teeth in concentration as he pokes with tools and examines the damage with an interesting contraption around his right eye. He was so lost in the work the Shirren made him jump.

"Err- yes, Chiskisk yes. I'm sorry, i hope i didn't make a mess..." he apologises, his pale skin flushing in embarrassment as he follows their guide through the spire.

Marvelling at the grand complex, much fancier than anything he had seen before in his years living in the junkyards of the spire, he takes a seat indicated and reaches out for water, realising how parched his throat is.

"Thankyou, and greetings. Ermm i'm not surehow to say this but - there was an incident at the docks and..." the Lashunta trails off, unable to say the words.

G-607 doesn't have any trouble stating what happened.

"Response: Kreel died in the crossfire of two rival gangs upon our meeting. We were able to take down one gang but Kreel died before we could resuscitate him."

Yesteryear's Truth

Chisisk antennae snap to the sides in response, it then speaks to all of you telepathically. “I am sorry that I cannot welcome you to Absalom Station under better circumstances. I assure you that such attacks are not a daily occurrence, though I realize that is likely small comfort to you. I am pleased that none of you were seriously hurt, but I grieve for Duravor’s death. He was a valued member of the Society, and a friend. May the Lady of Graves be kind in her judgment of his soul.” The shirren bows their head momentarily, then looks up, their compound eyes glittering.

“What puzzles me is the reason behind the attack.” Chiskisk taps a few commands into their computer. “According to the incident report just released by station security, two gangs were involved in the attack: the Downside Kings and the Level 21 Crew. Gang wars are not uncommon on the station, but they usually confine themselves to the more lawless sectors like the Puddles. It is rare for street gangs to battle openly in public areas like the docks. I cannot help but wonder whether all is as it seems. There must be a reason why those two gangs were at Docking Bay 94 at that time—the time of your arrival, coincidentally. But was it coincidence? Were you and Duravor just innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire, or might you and he have been specifically targeted? And if so, why?

“My understanding is that you are interested in becoming Starfinders, and since you were witnesses to the attack, I would like to ask you to investigate the incident on behalf of the Society. Find out exactly what happened and why. It may simply be a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time—I have no doubt station security will rule it so—but if Duravor was murdered, I would like to find justice for my friend. At the same time, this will give you the opportunity to demonstrate your own skills and abilities and show the Society that you are worthy of the title ‘Starfinder.’ Good luck.”

Zeigris needs to be redirected to focus on their current activities several times as they meet with the receptionist, and further to move with the rest from the waiting area where he had been examining Kreel's computer that he'd taken from the scene.

Once they're settled before Chisisk he listens to the introductions of the others, and further to the Shirren's response to the news they brought. "Yes, yes I thought I recognized those two groups. Always been troublemakers, but I thought it was odd for them to attack so suddenly. You might be right about there being something more to all this." Becoming a Starfinder, though? He hadn't thought too much about it, really. He'd just been told there was an offer waiting for him here... but it would lend him some needed legitimacy so he could actually wander more freely about Absalom Station again.

Kreel had talked about it, but I never thought they'd pick me! Yannick considers as the weight of Chiskisk's suggestion sinks in. He always considered Kreel was just appeasing the poor Junk-rat such that he was with his talk of seeing the stars. He would have to ask his uncle first of course, but he should let him know he was back especially with the news of Ganger attacks on the arms.

Again telepathically, Chiskisk speaks to the PC. I suggest you all getting settled in before starting your investigation. I offer you 200 credits each as a welcome and recommend you stay at the Moons of Sleep. It is a small hotel that offers extended stays for those working along with the society.

Options are going to be 16 credits per week for an efficiency. Or 50 credits per week for a two person suite. Discuss among yourselves and then we can launch the investigation, starting with the research potion of the mission.

While travelling the station. The PC's hear snippets of current events. Most interesting is the arrival of the derelict ship Acreon a few days ago, the whereabouts and fate of its missing crew, and the nature of the mysterious “Drift Rock” the ship brought with it. Rumors and speculation are rampant: the Acreon’s crew witnessed something significant and were killed to keep it secret; the entire crew went mad and walked out the airlocks; the Drift Rock contains precious riches, from rare and valuable minerals to advanced technology, or even legendary treasures of lost Golarion, preserved before the planet disappeared.

The other main topic of discussion is the disagreement between Astral Extractions and the Hardscrabble Collective, both of whom claim ownership of the Drift Rock and the right to examine the Acreon and determine the fate of its crew.

Yesteryear's Truth

The PC's make their way to the Moons of Sleep and are able to secure two efficiency rooms for 32 credits a week. While there, you also have access to the community computer terminals in the lounge.

During the investigation phase. Before you attempt a check, you may make attempt to find information on the infosphere(internet) with a DC 10 computers check. This allows you to take 20 on the check.

First off is to find out what you know about Duravor Kreel.
Diplomacy(gather intel)

10+:
Duravor Kreel was a midranking member of the Starfinder Society. Most of his work focused on mineral prospecting, but he also took an interest in mentoring new and prospective members of the Society.

DC 15+:
Kreel was a native of the Diaspora, the diffuse asteroid belt between Verces and Eox, and was known to have ties to dwarves and other mining groups in the region. An outspoken champion of miners’ rights, Kreel was active in challenging large corporate interests that exploited individual miners and laborers, including Astral Extractions.

DC 20+:
Kreel had personally invested money in the Hardscrabble Collective. In addition, one of his cousins was a member of the group, but she died in a mining accident—the result of safety violations perpetrated by her contract employer, Astral Extractions.

Next up is gathering information on the gangs.
Downside Kings.

Culture, Diplomacy or Intimidate DC 10+:
The Downside Kings are a brutal street gang that controls several decks of Absalom Station’s lower levels, or “Downside,” through a combination of intimidation and violence. They are known to engage in a wide variety of illegal activities, from extortion, fraud, robbery, smuggling, and theft, to drug and arms trafficking, kidnapping, murder-forhire, and trafficking in sentient species.

Diplomacy or Intimidate DC 15+:
Turnover among the Downside Kings’ leadership is high, but the gang’s current boss is a barbarous human woman named Ferani Nadaz.

Diplomacy or Intimidate DC 20+:
Astral Extractions has recruited the Downside Kings to threaten the Hardscrabble Collective and pressure the miners into handing over the Acreon and the Drift Rock to the company without dispute.

Diplomacy or Intimidate DC 25+:
The Downside Kings are known to use a nightclub called Fusion Queen as a front for their illegal activities

Diplomacy or Intimidate DC 30+:
Fearing that the Starfinders might be interested in the Drift Rock, Astral Extractions contracted the Downside Kings to kill Duravor Kreel in hopes of preventing any Starfinder interference.

Level 21 Crew

Culture, Diplomacy or Intimidate DC 10+:
The Level 21 Crew are a street gang that claims (unsurprisingly) Level 21 of Absalom Station’s seedy lower decks as its territory. Their known criminal endeavors include theft, fencing stolen goods, gambling, prostitution, racketeering, and smuggling.

Diplomacy or Intimidate DC 15+:
The Level 21 Crew may be a criminal gang, but they have a reputation in their territory (and neighboring levels) for promoting community empowerment, and many neighborhood residents tolerate or tacitly endorse their activities. The gang has also been known to hire itself out to defend marginalized and threatened groups or factions. A grizzled ysoki called Jabaxa currently leads the Level 21 Crew.

Diplomacy or Intimidate DC 20+:
Fearing retribution from powerful corporate interests, the Hardscrabble Collective has recently hired the Level 21 Crew for protection.

Diplomacy or Intimidate DC 30+:
Those who want to get in touch with the Level 21 Crew can leave word at a bodega called Mama Fats’, which the gang uses as a message drop.

Finally, the information on the contesting research groups.
Astral Extractions-Culture or Profession Corporate Professional or Miner

10+:
Astral Extractions is a powerful mining conglomerate with business ties throughout the Pact Worlds. Most of the company’s operations are centered in the Diaspora and the rocky moons of the outer planets, but it has also begun sending scout vessels into the Vast in search of new claims. The company recently hired one of the Hardscrabble Collective’s ships, the Acreon, for one of these exploratory missions

15+:
The public face of Astral Extractions is that of an ethical and respectable corporation, but outside of the public eye, some say the company uses hired muscle—corporate mercenaries, strikebreakers, and even criminal elements—as proxies to
intimidate and threaten those who stand in its way.

20+:
Following the arrival of the Acreon, Astral Extractions secretly hired a violent Absalom Station street gang called the Downside Kings to coerce the Hardscrabble Collective into abandoning its claims on the Acreon and the Drift Rock.

30+:
Underworld sources claim that Astral Extractions specifically ordered the Downside Kings to target Duravor Kreel, whose anticorporate activism was well known to the company’s board of directors, to discourage other parties (particularly the Starfinders) from intervening in the Acreon matter.

The Hardscrabble Collective-Culture or Profession Miner.

10+:
The Hardscrabble Collective is a clan of stubborn asteroid miners that operates primarily among the scattered planetoids of the Diaspora. It has no offices or base of operations, but the clan members usually view the Armada—the ever-changing
fleet of ships that orbit Absalom Station—as a central gathering place. Collective crews hire their ships out to a wide variety of business concerns, including Astral Extractions, which recently
employed the Collective ship Acreon to scout for new mining prospects in the Vast.

15+:
While the Hardscrabble Collective calls itself a clan, it is more of a cooperative business enterprise, a coalition of dozens of ships’ crews who have banded together for mutual benefit and safety. While some of the Collective’s members are related, most of them are individuals from a dozen different races: humans, dwarves, androids, ysoki, and more. Nevertheless, the Hardscrabble
Collective is as tightly knit as many families, and members fiercely look after one another’s welfare.

20+:
Following the arrival of the Acreon and Astral Extractions’ claim on the ship and the Drift Rock, the Hardscrabble Collective contracted with an Absalom Station street gang called the Level 21 Crew to protect its members and its interests on the station until the dispute can be resolved.

Let the research begin. If you use the intimidate, just imagine you cornered a thug of the appropriate gang.
