Recently, Venture-Captain Nieford Sharrowsmith disappeared on an expedition to explore dwarven ruins in the Bandu Hills. Concerned for his welfare after his prolonged absence, his business associate Aya Allahe dispatched a team of Pathfinders to track the errant Sharrowsmith and provide him support if necessary. clues found in the Bandu Hills suggest a powerful guardian lairs within the ruins, yet the dwarves left a powerful weapon capable of disabling the creature in the hands of a nearby grippli tribe known as the Krihirik.

The journey from Fort Bandu to the Kaava Lands is oppressively hot, but it gets easier as the days go on and the terrain transitions from rugged foothills to open grasslands before giving way to dense jungle. Following the directions from Fort Bandu’s garrison captain, it is not difficult to find Krihirik village, which lies approximately ten miles inside the jungle’s border— and twenty feet off the ground. Narrow rope bridges connect a few dozen tree-dwellings overhead, forming a small but secure community. Bright-skinned, bulging-eyed gripplis go about their daily business nearby. Crates and sacks of trade goods litter the jungle floor, and several gripplis busily inspect a bundle of swords, throwing down their spears and nets in favor of freshly forged steel.

A blue-and-brown-skinned grippli in practical traveling clothes bounds forward and holds out his webbed hands in welcome. “More visitors come to trade with the Krihirik? You are most welcome here, though I fear we have little to offer at this time. Or perhaps there’s some other reason you came all this way?”

Before the journey...
Sabni is a half-elven man of Osirion decent, but strangely with bright red hair. He wears a breastplate and carries a longsword and buckler by his side. You see a spell component pouch as well.

"I am Sabni Kabaan, a carpenter who hails from Sothis. I lived there for most of my life just making furniture for a living until one day I discovered the hammer I used for carpentry started taking on magical properties, enhancing my work. I didn't know what was happening at first, but found out that I could then focus my power into items, I decided I wanted to take up training this skill, and hence I joined the Pathfinder Society."

"I am not so proficient with weapons, but you will find that if you use weapons, I have the ability to enhance them in combat, as well as enhancing other combative abilities."

--------------------------------------------------------------------

A most primitive society, yet it works.

Sabni waits for someone much more fluent in social interactions to speak up.

I know not everyone has added their PC to the game yet, but I suspect we don't really have a face in this party. Favian is really good at Intimidate, but that's it.

"We have no need of your trade goods at this time. We're on the trail of a missing explorer that had frequented these parts and we've been told that your people possess an important key we need to find him."

Saphera moves up to the grippli and smiles warmly. "Well met, my name is Saphera. We have come in search of something left by the dwarves many years ago. We have been told, the item that we seek will help us destroy a great evil in the world. Who would we talk to about something as important and old as this?"

"I'm guessing you are here for a weapon to take down the guardian. Follow me, I shall take you to the elders."

He then lets out a couple croaks and several Gripplis lower rope ladders down to the forest floor for the PC's.

Rickety rope bridges connect half a dozen grippli tree houses to one another, though to the north, many more appear overgrown and abandoned. One dwelling is larger than the others, hangs over a small pond. Inside, three gripplis with mottled gray-brown skin pass a finely crafted short sword back and forth with admiration. Gwellik announces the PCs to the grippli elders, and introduces them to the PCs: Mother Bogwynne, the lorekeeper and chief elder; Finyik, the hunt-master; and Diblop, the chief brew-mistress and miracle worker.

Mother Bogwynne, the largest of the gripplis, slowly gets to her feet and hands the sword to the trader. “Thank you Gwellik. You have done well in our time of need, bringing both weapons and travelers from afar to lend aid to the Krihirik.”]/b] She pauses and looks over her guests in the meetinghouse. [b]“So, you seek a weapon to fight against the guardian of the Bandu Hills? Word of our tribe’s secret seems to have reached many ears of late. The Krihirik have such an object, but it is a treasured possession, entrusted to us long ago—one we could not surrender lightly. However...” She looks to Finyik, the hunt-master, whose old bones creak as he gets to his feet to speak.
“We are fewer in number with each season, for we are hemmed in by enemies on all sides. Those who would seek our remaining weapon would do well to bring us one in return, and this is the same opportunity we gave to those who came before you. Travel to Deepblood Ridge, where two beasts of the Kaava Lands reign, and bring back one or more of their eggs. These we can nurture as our own, far from the hungry talons of the lizardfolk who fear the beasts and would eat their young. Do this while surviving the dangers of our forest home, and you shall have our gratitude and our respect.”
Finyik sits down, and Diblop, by far the oldest and grayest of the three, speaks. “The great scaled ones are mighty creatures, the king and queen of the Kaava Lands’ many beasts. But the lizardfolk may curses haunt their breed to the ends of the jungle—chased them off, leaving the nest vulnerable. Now is the time to strike! Those who can defy the lizardfolk and aid us now will be most fit to wield the weapon the dwarves gave us so long ago and end the vile guardian’s threat once and for all.”

Knowledge Geography

DC 15+:
Deepblood Ravine runs from northeast to southwest in the eastern Kaava Lands. Most of the ravine’s western half is close to lizardfolk territory, and the eastern half is generally considered less dangerous. This check also grants the PCs a +2 circumstance bonus on Survival checks to navigate the Kaava Lands during this scenario.

DC 20+:
Deepblood Ravine was once the home of a large tribe of lizardfolk, but the arrival of carnivorous dinosaurs in the ravine drove them out. Ever since, the lizardfolk have aggressively expanded their territory in every other direction.

Knowledge Local

DC 15+:
The lizardfolk of the Kaava Lands are generally more open than others of their kind when dealing with non-lizardfolk. Nonetheless, they are highly unpredictable, proud, and violent—a combination that has resulted in a many deadly encounters over the years. The lizardfolk of Deepblood Ravine, in particular, are aggressively pragmatic survivors. Their conquest of the Krihirik village is inevitable unless the gripplis can secure some advantage.

DC 20+:
Based on the Krihirik gripplis’ descriptions, a human with terrible scars on his arms leads the explorers. He carries numerous daggers, seems to know his way around the jungle, and wore a strange metal badge with a snake insignia. His colleagues sometimes referred to him by the nickname Fiveknives.

If anyone as any other questions, feel free to ask, but you got the most important stuff for now.

The Kaava Lands teem with wildlife, from squawking birds and stinging insects to humongous trees that create a dense canopy above. Vines, roots, and large-leaved plants cover much of the ground. The gripplis’ directions lead northwest through the dark, virtually trackless terrain. The myriad sounds of the jungle grow louder, and the undergrowth grows thicker, as the Krihirik village vanishes into the distance.

First Check- I will need everyone to roll survival checks. I will take the highest roll as the main. Everyone who gets above 10 will be aiding.

Along the way you find a set of tracks. Showing a group of at least six medium humanoids and a smaller set of tracks which shows a barefoot humanoid missing two toes on its right foot.

About four miles from the Krihirik village, the terrain suddenly drops off into a deep ravine. The far side of the ravine is sixty feet away, and its craggy faces descend one hundred feet to the ravine floor below. The gap in the jungle allows a glimpse of the sky above, but the trees grow to the very edge of the ravine, and their dense canopy still blocks out much of the light. Several of the trees have massive, shaggy-barked trunks sporting countless twisting limbs. The trees’ strong roots grow deep into the earth and some even dangle over the side of the ravine.

Knowledge Nature

DC 18:
It is a monkey tree, a common but subtle hazard in the Mwangi Expanse, and its bark and roots contain concentrated oils that react upon contact with skin or leather to create an overwhelming, spicy odor. If you free climb using the roots, cracks and crevices, it will be a DC 10 climb check. You may use rope, it will be at least a 100 feet worth.

Between Saphera and Oleander, you have enough rope to make it down. And you may take 10 to climb down, as there are no other threats at his point. And since you have a rope, it will be DC 10 to climb down and avoid the monkey tree.

Just in case we have anyone challenged at a (DC 10) im going to ask if we have enough rope to knot it, which should lower the DC even more. If knotting it will remove to much length to make it all the way down, then we will go with it unknotted.

"We might need the rope at some point down the rode. Do we have anyone who is adept at climbing, that can easily make the climb without the rope?"

Of course you can always knot the rope, but that is going to take time to knot it and you will need another length of rope to make up for the knots. And you that will make the DC 5

Sabni, 9 will probably = no progress. If needed we could lower you down, to avoid an accidental fall.

As fare as the wolf is concerned, we could attempt to rig a harness and lower the wolf as well. It would help if someone new something about engineering.

"I can either hold off on climbing down until we have everyone but Oleander safely down. This would allow me to help with the lowering process, or I could go first in case there is anything down there to be concerned about. I will leave it up to the group to decided if I go first or almost last. With Oleander willing to make the climb without the rope, we will at least have the rope going forward. Only bad thing about removing the rope, is the fact that we wont have it in case we need to quickly climb back up."

Wolfie can get lowered on the end of the rope. He won't like it, but it is the only way I can think of. That said, wolves are probably okay scaling steep hillsides, and he might be able to do it anyway if it is not a sheer cliff. I think we'll go with the rope though.

The problem with stripping down and climbing, is the prospect of being attack once you reach the bottom. Being lowered while geared for combat, might be a better option. Ultimately its your call.

With a rope up against the wall is a DC 5 which everyone can make. To avoid the monkey tree is a DC 10, which everyone but Sabni can beat. So moving on. Everyone makes it down safely and only Sabni has the Monkey Tree Oil on them. You may take the time to wash it off if you wish, but will take some time. Moving on.

Fallen trees, rocky streams, hanging vines, and other obstacles litter the ravine floor, making travel through this area just as difficult despite the sparser foliage. After several hundred feet, the terrain gives way to a natural trail running through the middle of the ravine. In most places the trail is a mere five feet wide, though it widens to fifteen or even twenty feet in some areas. The ravine walls and the distant canopy still block out most of the natural light along the path.

Where the path narrows again, a humanoid corpse—one hand stuck in its vest as though desperately trying to reach for something—lies sprawled in the dirt next to a thick, thorny plant. Countless biting ants swarm over the corpse, making its features difficult to discern.

Survival DC 13:
a half a dozen sets of humanoid tracks that ran through this area and don’t appear to have returned.

Put yourselves on the southwestern corner of the map on the trail. Anything off the trail is difficult terrain.

GM Z..D..

First I would like to say thank you for running another fun scenario. I enjoyed it a lot and I intend to stick around for part 3 if you are intending to run it.

Chronicle: Saphera's chronicle is coming out horizontal with the chronicle vertical in the center of the page. This is causing some of the text to get garbled. The last chronicle, I was able to drag the chronicle sideways, which corrected the problem. This one I am unable to drag. Is it possible to turn the chronicle sideways so it fits on the full length of the page? That should correct the problem I am having with the text.

@Sabni, I would say the elders would be considered a similar figure, one of which is labeled as a lore keeper.

@Saphera, I rotated it for you, hopefully that fixes it for you.

@Oleander, I updated your sheet with your purchases. The red guy was a divine spellcaster, however it does not list a deity. It also does not say any of the gripplis have access to spells or a deity they worship. So none this scenario unfortunately.

After looking over this section multiple times, I am not seeing any adjustment for this part.

Scarab Sages

Male Half-Elf Occultist 5 | HP 43/43 | AC 20 | T 13 | FF 17 | CMD 15 | Fort +9 | Ref +6 | Will +7 (+2 vs. enchantment) | Init +6 | Perception +9 (low-light vision) | Sense Motive -1 | Spells: Level 1: 6/6, Level 2: 3/5 | Focus: Conjuration (3/4), Evocation (5/7), Transmutation (2/4) | Reroll 1/1 | Active Spells: Longstrider, Sudden Speed

Some battles don't have them, actually. Usually they omit it for battles that aren't high enough CR to warrant a 4-player adjustment (such as when it's an APL or APL+1 encounter).

Yeah, the Cr for this one encounter is only 4

Sovereign Court

Neutral Human Magus 12 (Sheet) (Equipment) | HP: 76/87 | AC: 38 (29 T, 23 F) | CMD: 38 | F: 13, R: 15, W: 10 | Init: 18 | Perc: 13 | Speed 60, fly 90 (good) |
Tracked Resources:
Arcane Pool 5/14 | Lesser Extend Rod 0/3 | Pearl I 0/2 | Reroll 0/1 | Ablative Barrier 20/50 | Mythic Power 0/2

I don't think that shot missed Favian by much. As far as I can tell, Favian can't see the kobolds because his light doesn't extend far enough, so I think they are shooting at his flat-footed AC which is only 18.

Favian's plan is to pop a scroll of obscuring mist in the hallway next round in case opening one of the doors in the hallway is required.

GM Z..D.., what is your ruling on being handed an item by someone else? Some GMs say that it requires a move action for the receiving person to take the item, some say it can be dropped in the receiver's hand without requiring them to take an action (technically taking a free action).

I have always ruled as a move action, either some one grabbing it or the other person presenting it to be taken. So long as one person sacrifices a move action to get it.

Welp, was auditing my own characters, and found out that this guy was listed as the wrong number.

He is 43439-23. Dunno how that happened.

Went ahead and changed it on the reporting....I have done it too..so many ideas/characters, too little time.

Just a warning, starting January 14 I will be on a long business trip in a very different time zone, so likely my post rate will be shifting for the remainder of this game. I still expect to be able to post 1/day (hopefully), but if I go silent for a little (especially on weekends) I just want people to know what's up. :)

I'm trying to let others lead as I have run this before, but I'm happy to kick open random door if it keeps things moving.

Knowledge Checks -Sky Key Solution Aid Token

Favian, pleas do help us kick in some doors, it is only 4 of you now..

Just FYI, I have a trainee at work with me for the next few weeks, so I will not have access to my laptop like I usually do. I should be able to update once a day.

Silver Crusade

Female Aasimar (Angelkin) Inquisitor (Sanctified Slayer) 5 / HP 43 / 43 / AC 26 /T 15 /FF 22 /F +5 /R +4 /W +6 /Init+9 /Perc+10 /CMB+6 /CMD 20 /(+1) Cold iron bastard sword +7 (1d10+4/19-20) / (MW) Repeating light crossbow +7 (1d8/19-20)

And so it seems paizo is having some issue with the message boards. I am only able to access this link through my previous posts. This means people are probably not getting flagged when there is an update. Not a big deal, I just though I would post something incase it isn't happening to everyone.

Silver Crusade

HP 60/60; Reroll @+4 0/1; Wand 11/50 Ranger 7; Init +3; Perc +14 (+4 vs human, +2 vs evil outsiders ;+2 in urban areas); AC 20; Fort +6; Ref +9; Will +4
Wolf:
: HP 30/30; AC 21; Bite@+6 (d6+3+trip); move 50'

I was getting this yesterday too. This morning it is working, although the level of overnight activity was (understandably) low.

I have the campaigns tab of my profile bookmarked so I wasn't noticing any problems.

I am in process of doing chronicles. Please roll for day jobs.

IF Oleander has a reroll left at the end she will use it with take ten for 10+6+3=19, 10gp, otherwise she is back to her normal 1gp. Must be her attitude stops her getting tips.
