GM Z..D.. |
Goldur, not at this time.
Doodle just remember it is a 300 foot climb. But you can always roll the survival, it is untrained skill.
Celebdan Barhador |
Celebdan starts hunting around looking for a path down into the valley.
survival: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
"Hmm... 'Valley of Broken Blood'," Goldur reads aloud, studying the worn megaliths. "'The great city of Ashkurhall within'..."
When he hears Goldur's mutterings, however, Celebdan excitedly dashes to his side, staring intently at the carvings even though he can't read them. "Ashkurhall? Does it say anything else? I wonder what its ruins still contain."
Bryzaglo |
Bryzaglo helps the others search for another way down to the ruins in the valley.
Survival: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Shaking his head Bryzaglo is no sure what his is looking for. "I prefer the city. I am out of my element here in the wild."
Tomren Tellius |
Survival: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Tomren sighs and turns to Bryzalgo.
"Me too, my roguish friend. Me too..."
Silgil |
Survival: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
[ooc]I didn't think it would ever get to the point that Silgil would need to roll, but there you go![/oc]
"I ain't climbing. How about that little trail over there? Maybe that will work!"
GM Z..D.. |
I am glad some one made the roll.
Silgil manages to find a trail the leads down into the valley by numerous switchbacks.
Once the PCs have descended into the valley they find themselves beneath a dense canopy of tall jungle trees. Due to the limited sunlight that comes through the canopy, the jungle floor is largely devoid of undergrowth, save for extremely small and sparse vegetation. The majority of the jungle floor is made of massive root structures from the ancient trees and moss-covered rocks.
The PCs can easily follow the trail of the kobolds and miners, who did not work to conceal their tracks once they got this far. The tracks lead the PCs through the jungle to a flowered clearing 2 miles from the ridge.
The dense forestation of the valley jungle thins here, opening up enough to reveal the sky through the canopy. Beneath this opening, an ancient ruin consumed by the jungle is barely visible. Vines and leafy foliage encrust toppled blocks of quarried stone, tall grass grows up between derelict paving stones, and squat statues depicting dwarves in heavy armor stand crooked or fractured entirely from the infiltration of twisting roots. Among the more notable features here are the exotic flowers—tall, pitcher-shaped, golden blooms with seven petals, the interior of each a deep red. The soothing fragrance of the flowers fills the valley, and motes of pollen drift lazily in the air.
You all seem to find a miner that is laying on the ground, and a plant seems to be latching on to her as you come into the clearing.

spellcraft studded leather armor: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
spellcraft potions: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
"Here, this armor is magical. Perhaps Goldur or Bryzaglo would want it. And I recognise these as healing potions."
Tomren Tellius |
Looking down at the miner, Tomren motions for Goldur to step closer.
"Here, use this on her."
We can use my wand of CLW to get her up.
Bryzaglo |
I'll take one of the potions. I like the armor I have." He puts the potion in a belt pouch for easy access.
Silgil |
"I'll pass. Take what you want."
GM Z..D.. |
Assuming that Goldur heals her, she comes to, not knowing what happened to her. She last remembered that the kobolds that took her, was trying to keep the captives alive, to what purpose she does not know.
You all continue along the path and come to a split in the ground. A deep ravine divides the valley here, bridged only by an ancient and crumbling span of stone reinforced by haphazard wooden reinforcements. A pair of ancient dwarven statues flanks either side of the bridge, each in considerable disrepair. An ancient stone building partly consumed by the jungle is visible across the ravine.
Ok, how do you proceed. We are not in initiative. Map has been updated.
Goldur Twinthunders |
Sure I'll heal her. Sorry, busy day yesterday.
"I think this armor would do nicely, thank you." AC is unchanged, but my armor check penalty will be 0 for the rest of the scenario.

"This bridge must be ancient indeed, if even dwarven stonework is so worn away. I'd recommend crossing one at a time, just in case."
Tomren Tellius |
If the dwarf says it's good, then it must be good...
Tomren inches his way over the bridge.
Silgil |
Silgil waits at the end of the bridge to see what happens.
GM Z..D.. |
The bridge itself looks sturdy enough to allow everyone to cross. Goldur you do not locate any traps.
Celebdan Barhador |
While the party worries about the bridge, Celebdan, however, wanders over to one of the dwarven statue. He stares at it intently, rubbing his hands over its worn surface. "Fascinating! Ancient dwarven stonework. A pity it's so worn out."
perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Tomren Tellius |
Tomren finishes his perilous and life threatening walk over the bridge.
"It's safe lads! Come on over."
Silgil |
Silgil follows him over.
Goldur Twinthunders |
Goldur smiles at Celebdan and puts a hand on the younger's shoulder. "If it's architecture you like, I know of many wonders I can show you someday. But for now, we've a job to do."
Goldur follows the others across the bridge.
GM Z..D.. |
The bridge seems to hold everyone's weight, please place yourselves on the other side of the bridge.
Tomren Tellius |
Being the first one over the bridge, Tomren moves past the statues to make place for the rest of the party.

Rules on this trap: A trapped creature can either break free of the grapple (CMD 20) or cut itself free as a standard action with a light or one-handed slashing weapon. Succeeding at either action causes the PC to fall 10 feet and take falling damage as appropriate. A creature that isn’t grappled may attempt a Disable Device check to disarm the sprung trap and lower the grappled PC to the ground safely; this Disable Device action takes 2d4 rounds.
Celebdan Barhador |
To clarify, do we move ourselves to the other side before combat starts, or does combat start with some of us still on the other side?
GM Z..D.. |
You start off where you said you moved to. You said you were checking out the statues, so that is where you start.

Learned that the hard way a few years back, when two of us fell down a hole and we spent so much time trying to get them out that we were set upon by the goblins that had dug it..."
Inspire courage! +1 to attack/damage, round 4.
Celebdan Barhador |
Celebdan dashes across the bridge.
Double move to behind Goldur. Can someone move Celebdan? On my mobile.
