This is my last/only chance at my computer today and it's been 24 hours without word so Tao is going on delay

Ai takes a 5ft step forward an turns her powerful gave on the robed speaker from earlier, Purple and will then attempt to Daze him, but unfortunately fails.

That's perfect. At this point, Tao-Shan would have taken a few seconds to grumble something about "zealous fighters" before looking at what they were working with.

Moving up beside Jian-Wei, Tao pulled one of the small clay bottles from her bandolier, and sighed. "This would have been better utilized over there, but there were people in the way."

He asks if they have finally brought his wine, and claims to have had no idea what the young Pathfinders would find below the Wisp, wether or not you believe him is entirely up to you.

When Narika catches up with Talon, its back at the Wisp. The tall young man is sitting by himself in a corner booth sipping on some warm mead. Apparently he'd gone back to keep his word on spending some time with Master Yargos Gill.

I'm happy to actually RP it or just have it be some background flavor, Narika. Your call.

Liberty's Edge

Sorcerer 16

"Talon, I have a story that I think you might be interested in. I know you are interested in history. Does that include relatively recent history of Cheliax?"

Talon looks up at Narika. His reserved smile carries a bit of confusion.

”I don’t know that I’m all that interested in history on its own,” he responds, nodding for her to sit as he takes another drink, ”so much as what we can learn from it. How we can grow from it. What did you have in mind to share?”

Liberty's Edge

Sorcerer 16

There is a bit of my personal history wrapped together with actual history. I'm sure you know that I was a slave. I was one of many slaves to a high ranking member of House Thrune. One night, I was required to serve at dinner and overheard the planning of a major military expedition. Queen Abby was even present in person. This meeting was at my master's house.

After dinner, I heard the queen give the order to dispose of the servants who had been near dinner. It was after this that I lived in manacles for a few days. I had heard enough stories to know that my life was lost, I was to be killed to make sure the secrets were kept.

It was then that a cleric of Cayden, a member of the Bellflower Network, risked his life to save me. He freed me. He made sure that I made it safely out of Cheliax. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to rescue any of the other slaves who served at dinner that night. However, if this meeting was important enough to kill all the slaves there, I thought it might be of historical interest to you.

Liberty's Edge

Sorcerer 16

Narika looks at Talon speculatively.

I've never told anyone what I overheard. The cleric who rescued me didn't want to hear, because he was afraid of calling attention to himself. I've been afraid of endangering anyone I told. However, here I suddenly feel far enough from Cheliax that I can tell. We have adventured together, and I think you might be interested in what I remember of that meeting. Telling this secret is sort of a way of breaking the last chain the Thrunes have on me.

If Talon is interested, Narika describes the details of a plan to invade Taldor. She doesn't know why that plan didn't happen, for the time set for it is past.

Grand Lodge

Talon listens intently to her story, though by his face, it’s obvious he’s not sure what to make of it. When she finishes, he leans back and shakes his head.

”I don’t know what to say. I won’t pretend to know what you’ve gone through, and I also don’t know what can be done with this information.” He pauses, considering. ”I have no love for slavery.” His voice builds in intensity, as if with a more personal pain, ”And I certainly have no love for a social system that sacrifices those at the bottom for the benefit of those above them.”

He leans forward again, dark eyes connecting with Narika’s. ”If a time comes when we can do something useful with this information, I will help if I can. Until then, we will face what we must. And become what we must. So when that day comes, we will be ready.”

He lifts his cup, ”Until then, to a successful first assignment. And to good company on many more.”

Just as Narika and Talon finish their conversation, they look up and see Ollo trudging through the door of the inn. He hesitates, but finally acknowledges them and moves toward their table before haltingly stammering his way through his words.

Narika raises her cup at Talon's toast, drinks, and then nods toward the corner where Cayden's shrine sits. Thanks for a successful mission she mouths silently towards it.

Just then, Ollo enters, and after he speaks, she smiles at him. "Grab a drink and come sit, Ollo. We all know that spells can make us do things we never would otherwise. Maps: Segang Expedition

The next few days are quiet, each of the party members are given a bit of a reprieve, and a little legal counseling about what to say if Fimbriks broken door lock ever comes into question. As unconfirmed agents there still doesn't seem to be much work in the world at large that the Society is ready to trust you with yet, so leisure time is at a premium.

However about a week after unveiling the cache of information in the Shrine of the Failed, each of you are approached by a runner, who hands you this note (link) detailing some findings from your previous adventure. Appended is a quickly scrawled note providing a time and location to meet Ambrus Valsin for your next assignment.

Water laps steadily at the pier as sailors, laborers and merchants rush busily around Absalom's port when you arrive. The venture-captain's summons called for a meeting aboard the Sixwing Drake, a sleek sailing ship. Walking onto the deck, you see a number of familiar faces, your comrades from your previous assignment are all here. The Captain, a Varisian woman and fellow Pathfinder named Zarah Zendrani stands at the helm with a furrowed brows.

"Hmm, it's not like Valsin to be late."

As though on cue a tall meticulously groomed man (link) pushes his way through the crowd and up the gangplank, cursing audibly.

"Whoever supervises this mess of a port needs to be dumped into the sea!" The tall man looks at the group assembled before him and nods.
"Just the group I requested. Perfect, I am Venture-Captani Valsin, and I took great care in selecting just the right Pathfinders for this assignment."

As he talks Valsin reaches into a pouch on his belt and withdraws a small folded paper.

"A few days ago I received a curious note from a rather unexpected source. It's not everyday that I get a request from an agent of the Aspis Consortium." Valsin smiles as the Captain's eyes widen.
"But Magali Delroya does not seem to be your average Aspis agent. As you surely know the Aspis Consortium pursues a variety of activities across the Inner Sea that the Pathfinder Society finds abhorrent. It seems Delroya has been working with them for some time and can no longer stomach their practices. She wants to stop a shipment of an experimental drug from leaving Diobel later this week. It's bound for quite a few locations across the Inner Sea. According to her, she can't ask the local authorities because they have struck a deal with the Kortos Consortium, a powerful merchant collective. Her hands are tied, but she has provide three separate tasks that may help disrupt the shipment long enough to move the goods to a secure location and out of Aspis hands."

He unfolds the note and hands it to whichever party member is closest.

"She will not meet before at least two of these tasks have been completed. If we -if all of you- are able to attain a meeting and stop this operation, it will be a significant blow to the Aspis Consortium. You'll have prevented this drug from spreading, potentially ruined a burgeoning alliance, and if you're particularly cunning you may even recruit Delroy into our ranks, having a turncoat would be invaluable to the Society. Take some time to read over the note, if you have any questions, now is the time to ask."

Looks like we have a bunch of handouts again, hopefully you guys like reading flowy script on PDF's. If either of these are too hard to read let me know, I'll try to split them up into multiple files but I was trying to prevent handout fatigue in the first post of this scenario.

Ai frowns, sticking out her lower lip in an exaggerated pout as she reads through the notes. "I remember when I was a child. I had lots of drug problems then. My mother drug me to school, she drug me to our grandmother's house, she drug me to the temple..." She looks at the tasks and grins. "So, it's a timetable job this time? I do have an important question. How do you know this isn't a setup?" Her eyes narrow suspiciously. "The Aspis aren't exactly our friends, but would they go to these lengths to trap out a few novice Pathfinders?"

As she continues scanning the tasks, she mutters to herself before continuing, this time addressing her comrades. "I think getting aboard a ship that's bustling with workers could be the most difficult. My vote is to bother these two agents and pay a visit to the Leper gentleman in the sewers. Although...the smell isn't likely to be much better than those troglodytes..." She looks to the others, handing the notes over and waiting for their inputs.

As the situation is explained, Narika's face darkens with anger. After she reads the notes, the words burst out "I want to go after the son of Asmodeus who makes the stuff. I saw slaves try to flee inside themselves with drug use, and their slavery to the drug was worse than the slavery of their bodies. I want to punish those who profit from the suffering of others. We can steal his notes after we deal with him, and so be making progress on the alloted tasks."

Talon steps up onto the Sixwing Drake, his long strides carrying him easily across the gangplank as his dark eyes find his new teammates. He gives them a small smile, and he looks to be sporting a new, fancy greatsword across his back.

He’s his usual quiet self through the briefing, though his concern for doing work for an Aspis agent is obvious. He nods along to Ai’s question of trusting her motives.

He reads the letters from Delroya, pulling out his own journal to make a few notes. ”I agree with Ai. Taking the alchemist’s notes could set their production back. Less whip sounds like a good thing.”

At Narika’s explosion, Talon puts a gentle hand on her small shoulder, but says nothing. Instead, he looks at Valsin, ”Will we need anything in Diobel? I’ve never been there.” He looks at his notes, ”And how quickly can we expect to leave Diobel afterwards? If our tasks require more … obvious measures, will we be sticking around to deal with the repercussions?”

He looks at his teammates, shifting to preparations of the taks themselves. ”Getting the notes is fairly straightforward. Locate the lab. Find the notes and samples. Get out. Disrupting the meeting, however … any ideas?”

As Aarion reads through the notes he begins to display a look of concern.

“I have grave concerns about this source of information. If the informant is legitimate, she would indeed be a valuable asset to the society. Unfortunately it sounds like this could be stepping stones to a larger picture. It wouldn’t be the first time I have heard of the consortium using the society to complete specific goals to achieve some diabolical plot. Ultimately, the only way to evaluate this informant is with time and scrutiny.”

Knowledge (Local): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 (On the drug (Whip), and (or) any effects it might have had on the locals, on Laszo the Leper, The Blue Dragon Bite ship, Dioble, Krotos, and the Overflowing Oyster.)

“Out of the three options, I find the first and third choice to be the ones that interest me the most. I think we should present ourselves as something other than Pathfinders if we decided to accomplish task one.”

“In regards to the third option. Killing this alchemist, and removing his work from this world, sounds like a win-win to me.”

Let me know if any other knowledge skill checks would be helpful in preparation for the upcoming quest.

Valsin nods approvingly at the line of questioning he's received.

"Good, good, this is precisely the kind of thinking I'd expect from the group who discovered Eylysias secret information cache. First let me state that I initially shared your concerns, but our own agents have confirmed much of this information, that is as much as I can say about that. I will add, however, that I have met this woman in the past, before she became an Aspis agent. I saw much in her that I see in you all today, the makings of great Pathfinders, but she did not feel the organization was worth her time. Had I known she would have signed on with the Consortium, I'd have pushed a little harder, instead it falls to you all, despite your relatively new status to the organization, to exemplify what it means to be a Pathfinder. I suspect that you are all up to the task. Lastly, the Kortos Consortium is quite powerful in Diobel, and at least formally, are a neutral organization, circumstances may call for a heavy hand, but I know you will do your best to keep our name in good standing with them, the Kortos are not our enemy yet, and I would see it remain that way. As far as your departure, the Captain here will wait for you all before returning to Absalom, your departure relies entirely on how long it takes you to arrive back on deck."

Valsin will wait a few moments more for any questions, if he receives none, or when he has answered them he'll turn to leave.
"Any items you need to pick up or bring with you on your journey, I suggest you retrieve in the next hour or so, but you must leave as soon as you can, we can not risk the Aspis getting this shipment out. You will have a day, maybe two to complete your assignment. Make sure you use your time wisely."

Aarion:
As far as Whip, this note from Magali would be the first you have heard of it. Diobel is a small coastal town that see's most of the shipments going to and from Absalom because of it's lower taxes, trade between the city and Diobel is extremely important to the cities welfare and the Kortos Consortium has enough power to influence the continued cooperation.

Kortos: As Valsin said, there is no formal agreement between the Aspis and the Kortos and neither group is centralized enough to make cooperation easy, a large enough disruption in their dealings could very well permanently prevent an alliance. House Locosta, the faction of Kortos currently aligned with the Aspis Consortium claims a major interest in Qadiran spices but derives most of it's profit from buying and selling Qadiran slaves.

Lazlo and the Blue Dragon bite are unknown to you, it is likely that only Aspis agents would really know any relevant information on them and the Oyster is just a bar.

When Valsin departs the Captain turns to the party and with a curt nod says "Just let me know when you're ready to leave."

As Valsin is departing, Talon thinks of one more question. "Venture Captain! This alchemist ... is he a Kortos man?"

Talon will pick up another Scroll of Mage Armor (noted on my character sheet), but is otherwise read to move on when the group is.

"As far as I can tell he's an Aspis Agent. If he is a Kortos man, I'm sure providing evidence of his alleged involvement with this drug will be more than sufficient for them to deny their affiliation."

Ollo sits up from where he sat quietly on a barrel of pickled fish.
"Seems ta be pretty straight: Stop the shipments, end a meetin', and play nice wit' a turncoat. Ya sure ya can vouch fer this woman, Capt'n?"

Can we assume that I have purchased the wand of Bless already? If so, I am good to roll.

Ai grins. "Picoperi has ideas on how to best disrupt this meeting. If the tavern's 'burnt down', there's no place for these two agents to meet. I think, depending on the size of the tavern and its timing, that three or four smokesticks could do the job."

Ai will purchase four Smokesticks. They're useful even if that plan isn't the one followed. -80GP, +4 Smokesticks.

Ollo becomes alarmed at the Kitsunes suggestion. With wide eyes, he jumps up from his "seat", waving his hands at Jian-Wei. "No, No, No! That'll be a bit TOO much 'o a good thing, I be thinkin'! We need to still make a few friends, here too!" the dwarf says.

"I think we should recruit the bar keep. The knowledge that he sells fake pearls on the black-market could prove useful. There is a chance he knows the agents in question and could point them out to us. There is also the chance he might assist with the whole thing. Closing the bar would be better then burning it down. We could also pick a fight. A random obnoxious drunk picking a fight can't be unusual in a place like that."

"I don't want to burn down the tavern either, of I would have chosen something more flammable than a few smokesticks. I just want to get a really good smoke going at, say, a quarter 'till noon on Oathday." Ai brandishes an open hand dramatically. "I just think this method has a certain...style. If we did it right, the barkeep would think it was a joke played by some harmless children." She pauses, looking at her hands and opening her eyes wide in a parody of surprise. "Wait! That's just what it would be!"

After a moment, she looks at Ollo slyly. "Too much of a good thing? So I can use just one smokestick, then?"

EDIT: I'm fine with whatever strategy you all want to pursue. I was just throwing out an idea that wouldn't involve alerting civilians to our presence.

Well, you lot were certainly active, unfortunately Tuesday nights are hectic for me.

The party makes a few last minute purchases and discusses tactics as they return to the ship and board, giving the Captain the OK to ship off. Your voyage takes you along the southern short of the Isle of Kortos and the ship sails through the night. At dawn the next day (Oathday) the ship pulls into a massive barrier of broken war-barges, crumbling walls, and jetties of iron and wood that protect the port of Diobel.

"Well, here we are," says Captain Zendrani. "I'll make sure everything is in order with Diobel's inspectors and charter you a barge to port. You aren't carrying anything particularly valuable so you shouldn't draw much attention from the inspectors or pilots, so long as you don't run your mouth. My crew and I will wait here with a ship. You can return to rest if you need to, but remember - there isn't much time!"

The captain slips a few extra coins to the barge captain, a middle aged man with weather beaten skin named Markus Karbie, on the agreement that he hang around the shore to bring the party back to ship if they need it, no questions asked. Markus agrees and provided an uneventful trip to the coast. Now in Diobel, it's up to the group to decide their next action.

Looks like we're basically unanimous on tasks 1 and 3, it's dawn, you know the meeting happens at noon. Let me know which activity you choose to pursue first and we'll move from there.

Finally setting foot to solid earth, Ollo thanks his patron Torag forr the safe journey. "I hate sailing!!" he exclaims with a shudder.
"What be yer thoughts here? Th' meetin' don happen til noon, and its already light, so it'll be harder ta git those papers. I say we go fer the sewers and the rat makin this mess!"

How big is Diobel? Basically, I’m trying to decide if it’s better to ask for directions (to the tavern or to a sewer entrance) or if the town is small enough to just go looking around.

Or might the ship captain have told us the location of both when we arrived?
