Nothing is heard over the sounds of crashing waves. Justin smells that there must be campfires nearby.
Justin, together with snowflake, inspect the wall of thorns.
A little bit to the west, there is an irregularity in the thorn wall. Examining it, it turns out to be a 'thistle door', a part of woven briars that can be lifted.
Behind it, a four-foot-high tunnel winds through the dense briars and nettles. The floor is hard-packed earth, with patches of wiry plants growing stubbornly here and there.
I've marked the door on the map with an arrow. Everything behind that point is actually tunnels and 'chambers' in the briars. So the corridors you see on the map are actually tunnels.
Justin Norvegicus |
"Well this has a big old sign on it that says "way in" Or "Trap". You know they're the same word in goblin?"
He puts his palm up to dayo and closes his eyes for a second. A slight shimmer appears around him. "You're armored for 2 hours. And since a small tunnel wasn't part of the plan"... He Looks through his book and once everyone is ready, shrinks Dayo down to his size. Minus the ears. Which count. "That lasts 5 minutes. Lets try to get to the human part of the fort by then."
Dayo |
Updating statblock now! EDIT: geezus, that's a +6 bump in Armor Class! Itty bitty living space...
You can tell that Dayo is reliving that excitability from the last time he was shrunk all those weeks ago, but when he unsheathes his sword his emotions clash. As he peers down the tunnel, you can hear him whisper to himself, "I strike where I am needed, but only when evil has been unmasked and there can be no doubt of my enemy’s malice."
He turns back to the group, his normally large eyes still full of emotion (despite their currently shrunken status), but his voice is abnormally steady and stern (despite being comically higher pitched).
"We will kill Goblins today. And their unpleasant leaders. We do this to protect the lives of Sandpoint, and to stop evil from growing greater. We take no joy in this. It simply must be done."
And after a moment of silence to let his words sink in, he turns and enters the briars.
Vy "Snowflake" Baro |
Vy nods to Dayo
"I guess you take front, with our unarmored compatriots follwoing. I'll will set up as rear guard"
He readies his shield and spear, and hunkers down, keeping his shield level, and crabwalking with his hunched legs
"For Sandpoint, indeed" echoing Dayo's resolve in his voice
GM Woran |
I've updated the map according to you following the trail
Three thistle tunnels open into a large cavelike chamber. Above, the thorny canopy grows thin enough that tiny slivers of the sky above can be seen, while below, the ground consists of trampled dirt. To the west, the distant sound of sloshing waves echoes up from a hole.
Justin Norvegicus |
"Stay here for a second baldy, I don't trust goblin infrastructure not to collapse under your weight and all that metal you're wearing. "
Justins going to take a peek down da hOOOOOOOOOOole.

sneak Justin: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 Making an asumption here
Justin inches closer to the hole. The hole is very deep. Its hard to guess in the half-light, but its most certainly deeper then 60 ft. You can hear water sloshing at the bottom. From the sound and smell its clear that this sinkhole is connected to the ocean, probably by an underwater tunnel.
There are clear signs of struggle around the hole.

With Justin checking out the hole, the others quietly continue on.
When Dayo pokes his head round the corner of the tunnel, he sees a musty-smelling chamber, its walls and floor are covered with matted, wiry fur. Well-gnawed bones lie scattered about the floor, and a dozen
wooden stakes have been driven into the ground near the walls.
There are four Goblin dogs in the room. The one closest to Dayo begins to bark loudly, waking up the other dogs in the room.

Justin Sees the narrow confines behind him, and if something can get through the magically augmented Dayo, and Oskar, and Vy he doesn't want to get anywhere near it.
He pulls back a bit, taking what cover he can to hide and readies his crossbow to shoot anything coming from the side passages.
''Vitro'' Wizjietroczenon |
Vitro's grimacing a bit at the irony: tall pointy elven wizard forced into a thorny goblin hedge maze. At least his earth wizardry has prepared him for lots of weird crouchy meditation positions.
Spotting a brawl beginning and with no real line of fire for any precision spells, it's time to smell up the place again.

I also figured you'd roll one acrobatics and that was it, but I've been wrong before. You provoke from green for sure, but I am unsure about blue, as it depends on how you apply the penalties stacking. You also need to make a sort save against Vitro's cloud.

In retrospect, I could Flurry of Blows, but since that's Strength based at this point I'd only be like +4 to-hit instead of +9, and 1d6+1 instead of 1d6+5.
Oskar Dragenaev |
In retrospect, I could Flurry of Blows, but since that's Strength based at this point...
Huh? How do you figure? I'm not sure how you get that. (Not saying it's not true, mind you, just that I don't understand.)
Nefreet |
This is the complicated interaction of several different abilities.
Virtuous Bravo allows me to Weapon Finesse with "one-handed or light piercing weapons".
Slashing Grace allows me to treat a one-handed slashing weapon as though it was a one-handed piercing weapon.
The problem is, I lose the benefits of Slashing Grace during a Flurry of Blows.
Since one of the benefits is that I treat my 9RB as a one-handed piercing weapon, I therefore also lose the ability to use my Dex to-hit.
So although I can Flurry, because it is a Monk Weapon, I'll be using Strength for attacks and damage.
Losing 2 Strength from Reduce Person doesn't help there =\

I feel like that robot that Kirk disables by describing love to it. I don't know if it's just that Im distracted b/c I'm at work, or I've just gotten too feebleminded to handle this sort of thing.
Nefreet |
Woran is being gracious by allowing me to eventually take a custom feat I named "Flurrying Grace", which will allow me to benefit from Slashing Grace during a Flurry of Blows (at -2 to-hit, akin to the Two-Weapon Grace feat).
