Smiley, Kharg will wear the hand for the time being. He would probably think it's funny, it being a mummified elf hand and all.

Kharg hears what sounds like solid advice from his dwarven comrade. He grabs the mummified hand around his neck, points it at the dragonman with the keys and loudly exclaims

Mummy hand! Grab the keys

He furrows his brows in concentration, but nothing happens.

This is what happens when the dwarf and half-orc try their "hand" at magic. I've been metagaming and read the Mage Hand spell description. I am just out of range and the object must be unattended to be targeted, so I am guessinig the spell failed.

In frustration, Kharg lets go of the hand and readies his ax, moving quickly to the dragonman with the keys.

Kharg takes his move action to move 30' to intercept the gold guy. I would imagine this will provoke an AOO from red?

Shows me for trying to update quick at lunch ;) The grapple vs bullrush really doesn't change the outcome, so I'll let it stay where it's at; you beat the DC either way.

Kharg, one of the spell casters could have explained the Hand to you, so you would probably know that wouldn't work. You can make an attack at Gold; up to you if you want to go with the tactically unsound but funny RP plan ;)

With Smiley, Kharg, and Jillia each engaging one of the dragonmen, Nella realizes that leaves the fourth one free and currently unoccupied. Hoping that the others have things well in-hand for the moment, she digs out the tanglefoot bag she'd picked up earlier and moves forward in preparation of assisting Markus if he needs it.

SOP if Nella is a Melee/Ranged Target:

Use Adoration ability as an immediate action to negate; functions as sanctuary with a DC 13 Will to resist. Only works against one individual attack, should the attacker target her with multiples.

Move to dig out the tanglefoot bag, move to current position. And that's fine by me Kharg! Honestly, I expect the very nature of the Society would lead to some hiccups regarding battle tactics since you're working with people you're not that familiar with and such ;)

Quote:
A dull hum emanates from Skyreach as the ground trembles, trees sway, and glass shatters. A moment later, most of Skyreach’s northwest tower tears free from the keep; however, rather than crash to the ground, a visible aura holds the structure aloft and causes it to float above the Grand Lodge. Even the shower of stone blocks floats, swirling around the airborne tower in a nimbus of speeding debris.

Looking up as the main spire tears itself away, she tries to remember anything she's learned in her three-year, three-day career as a Pathfinder that mentions what to do if the Grand Lodge starts disassembling itself and floating away, but nothing comes to mind.

"That can't be good," is all she can mutter.

Still holding the tanglefoot bag in one hand, she focuses her power on Kharg to aid him in the use of that fearsome axe.

At least now it'll actually make a difference! Need to watch my timing and distance more closely...

Let's try this again...BotF for Kharg; +2 to attack rolls ;)

1. AOO attempt
Kharg squares off against the dragonman with the keys. As he prepare his attack, he catches movement out of the corner of his eye. To his amazement, another dragonman is running straight at him, but seemingly oblivious to the half-orc. Kharg takes the opportunity to attack the fleeing foe, swinging his axe with both hands.

I just got home from work. If it is not too late, I'd like to take an AOO at purple. After that I will tale a full round attack on gold for my turn.

Lodge Map | Tower Battle Map

No worries Kharg on the AOO. if it was a pivotal factor I would have rolled it for you :)

With casual ease, Kharg dispatches two of the Wyvaran in a span of seconds, his axe whirling around faster almost as fast as the eye can see! Nella's Blessing allows him to strike true! Yes, that was the difference between hitting and missing

The lone wyvaran, bloodied and with his clutchmates cut down around him, withdraws into the sky, clumsily flying off on its ponderous wings!

As you look around the wreckage of the once proud Menagerie, two of the animal handlers that Markus saw previously during the Competition emerge from hiding outside of the sea of tents come rushing quickly, surveying the situation. One exclaims, "Oh, thank heavens! I thought that we'd have to go about reclaiming all of our lost charges. I can't imagine how much chaos they've wrought. Those... things... have nearly ruined us!"

Searching through his gear, one of the zookeepers approaches the group and says, "Here, I was saving these to aid some of the injured animals, but I think these would do best to aid your cause. Thank you for dealing with those winged cretins without damaging the animals!" He then turns to look in at the rest of the zoo.

Markus does spy in one of the surviving cages the ape he intimidated previously. It jumps at the bars of the cage screaming before making a rough approximation of a clapping motion.

Success! Supply point!

Ok, group decision time. There's another couple of days left in this section and one possible encounter left. Would you guys' schedule permit trying for one more combat, or would you prefer to just have the next couple days to be low key and RP? I know it's Thanksgiving / Black Friday the next couple of days. If people want to press on, I'll post the final encounter for this part, otherwise we'll RP :)

Lodge Map | Tower Battle Map

Posting this in case we decide to press on. Not sure when I'll get to update next. If we decide to take a break, this will just be a vision of what could have happened. Kharg, Nella, you can post your actions though. Also, feel free to add a retcon to RP with the zookeepers / Menagerie if you'd like!

As you move away from the Menagerie, it appears that some order has begun to be imposed on the chaotic battlefield that is the Grand Lodge. However, you hear a shout of "There are... things... attacking at Durvin Gest's Monument!" Hoping to prevent the despoiling of such a legend, you hurry south!

This tall statue is cast in the likeness of Durvin Gest, the most famous Pathfinder of all time. Carved in a likeness of the adventurer in his later years—still dashing and bearing an assortment of scrolls and adventuring gear—the statue stares intently off into the distance. Beneath the statue, pedestals stand adorned with angelic figures and elaborate friezes showing some of the more memorable scenes from the Pathfinder’s long and celebrated career.

Most notable, however, it appears that a pair of the small angel statues that usually surround the monument have ripped free from the pedestal, flying around and harrying anyone that ventures close with odd tentacles that project out of them! Noticing you, they turn their unblinking stone faces towards you.

"Living statues? It's going to take forever to break them apart at this rate, all while they've got free reign with those tentancles! I don't think so," Nella mutters. She dashes over to where Markus stands and kneels down to grab the silver whistle he'd been given by the paladin.

"Sorry Markus, need to use this for a moment!" she says before putting the whistle to her lips and sounding a shrill cry with it. "HEY! A LITTLE HELP OVER HERE!"

Move to Markus...standard to use the whistle (Aid Token)? If using it doesn't count against her actions, she'll use BotF on Kharg again for +2 to attack rolls. Going for the Bardic Assistance with the Aid Token.

Nella blows the whistle, and for a moment nothing seems to happen. Then, shouting out triumphantly, you hear a familiar voice cheering you on!

"Defend the Lodge along with me!
We've all but won, finally!
I'm here for you now, so break that stone!
I'm here with you now, you're not alone!"

Kharg feels the familiar power of Nella's blessing combined Brob's Bardic Inspiration surging through his limbs! His first attack strikes true, causing the statue to fracture and fall to the ground. With a graceful, almost magical motion the other head of his axe flashes around, completely severing the neck of the second construct and causing it to explode in a shower of small stone fragments!

The strange energy that seemed to be possessing the statues appears to have lost its hold on the wrecked statuary, and a otherworldly roil of energy escapes them, dissipating harmlessly.

Within the wreckage, you find a small aspis sigil, though whatever magic that it held seems to be only lingering.

Success!

Ok, I wasn't expecting Kharg to roll two 20s when I suggested you use the aid token, but it was the difference of destroying one in one hit or wasting 20 damage on a construct with one hitpoint.

Nella gasps as Kharg seems to tap into some hidden well of power and decimates both of the tenta-statues. "That was amazing Kharg! And thanks for the help Brob!" she calls, waving excitedly in the direction of the singing.

Unable to help herself, she peers curiously at the sigil found among the statue wreckage. "More Aspis work, but I wonder what it does...did?" she muses, poking at it tentatively with her quarterstaff.

Wow, that was awesome. I guess we pass off our Aid Token now :)

Lodge Map | Tower Battle Map

Nella can only imagine that there must have been some otherworldly work that tied a denizen of another plane to this world and that the impressive display of destruction must have broken that link. Where the Aspis might have gotten such a thing, you have no idea.

Around the Grand Lodge grounds, there are still assorted fights ongoing. You see a massive two-headed vulture taken down by a team of Pathfinders including a mage with a small constellation of stones around their head, a flying paladin of Iomedae with a fiery sword that glows like the sun, a scaly green tiefling standing 8 feet tall dressed like he was at an opera not a battlefield (complete with a top hat!), and a strange, robed archer that shoots arrows with an astonishing speed while maintaining a strange calm.

Elsewhere a small Circle of Druids and Clerics of Nature deities herd strange beasts back into the Menagerie, a makeshift infirmary is being set up on the South Lawn to take care of wounded, and a small number of captives in a mix of non-descript clothing are being corralled and separated.

Your contribution to this struggle certainly hasn't gone unnoticed. You see a small flight of syrinx clutching the maps you gave them take flight out of the Lodge, to the shouted dismay of some of the wyvern-blooded that still cling to the tower heights in some places. Yargos Gill and a few of the professors you helped rescue are surrounding maps laid on some of the tables that were the Feast was supposed to be served, discussing strategy and how best to muster forces. You pass by Venture Captain Valsin who informs you that all of the Quadrangle is secure: thanks to your brave efforts not a single Pathfinder trainee was slain.

There are still pockets of resistance, but it looks like the initial assault to reclaim the grounds of the Grand Lodge is winding down. Now that the Lodge grounds approach being reclaimed, however, Pathfinder agents turn grimly towards Skyreach and the impossibly levitating tower, wondering what sort of dire portent that holds.

"Well...looks like all the mess out here is more or less under control now," Nella smiles with relief as she looks around. "I suppose we should return that whistle; I imagine some of the more experienced Pathfinder agents will be sent inside the Lodge to see what's going on and one of them may need it to call for backup."

She scans the crowd, looking for the lady knight from earlier. Once she spots her, she hurries over with the whistle. "Hey! We just wanted to return your whistle; it worked like a charm to call a little backup help. But with things under control out here, I don't think we'll need it again...at least I hope not!"

Hope that's not being too presumptuous...

At Marcos Farabellus' words, several groups go off in different directions, seeking to retake Skyreach from the Aspis and their otherworldly allies (or pawns?)

There are three main locations you can attempt:

  • The Restricted Library in the Skyreach Vault
  • The Chamber of the Sky Key
  • The Tapestry Chamber

With the rate we go, we'll probably be able to get through them all. The first choice is up to you guys; I might nudge a second choice depending on how long it takes.

Restricted Library, unless anyone votes otherwise, in which case Smiley will second that vote.

I'm good with the Library too, but not especially set on it.

You venture to the Restricted Library, deep within the Vaults. Twelve bookcases line the walls of this cozy lounge room. Their shelves are crammed with books, scroll tubes, and tablets. Comfortable furnishings are arrayed so that scholars may examine the works without needing to remove them from the room. It may be here that Aram Zey hid his notes about the Hao Jin Tapestry.

As you approach, though, a quartet of men appear to be looting through the Library. Noticing you, one shouts, "Pathfinders! Scatter! Burn the place down if you have to!"

Sorry for the delayed posting, was away this weekend and couldn't get on the Internet.

Venture-Captain Farabellos' words stir a variety of emotions in Markus - pride at the work they have done to secure the grounds, anger at the brazen attack by the Aspis agents, and concern at the effort still needed to resolve the assault.

As they enter the Restricted Library, the vast collection of lore is very impressive. The looters, however, spoil the calm environs. "Aspis scum!" Markus shouts as he moves to confront the armed men, gathering a ball of acid in his hand before throwing it toward the Aspis in the corner.

"Rozpustit!"

Move Action to move 20ft southeast (Lockwood please), Standard Action to cast acid splash at the yellow looter.
