Lockwood is a term that was propagated by a GM several of us had, that essentially means "Please move me to Location X on the map" typically if you're posting from a device that doesn't have a mouse ;)
It's funny how terms used by different groups can go around for a while.
Markus Notine |
Sorry, I didn't really think about it. I just continued using it from our previous PbP. My bad.

No worries. Good to clear up though.
Also! Unrelated, but fun fact: it doesn't appear that there's a 4-player modification for encounters in this scenario. I have a feeling that my 4-player CORE game I'm playing in that I joined to make the table legal is going to be... interesting.
Jillia Tennille |
Just gotta make your saves, then.
Hopefully, you're not a CORE table of 4 in Tier 10-11.
Penelope 'Nella' Tabor |
No adjustments? Yikes! Good luck and I hope it all turns out okay!
P.S. This is primarily for our fighters, but let me know what sort of a bonus you (or your character) would prefer to get from Nella's BotF ability if that's not considered metagamey or anything.
P. P. S. I went for a job interview this morning - keep your fingers crossed for me!
Jillia Tennille |
No worries about the job! You've got Halfling Luck on your side!
As far as blessings go, Jillia will trust your judgment. Situations change and all.
That said, she likes to loop around enemies and tends to try and avoid lots of AoOs with Acrobatics...

Yah, no worries, Markus. Today I Learned.
GM Wolfpirit4W |
In order of topics:
New topic: how do groups normally handle things when it gets down to one enemy? I don't want people to feel like Nella / Markus get double actions, though I have a feeling that the combat will be mopped up soon. Mostly I want to just keep things moving when possible.
Markus Notine |
Good luck Nella, got my fingers crossed.
The one enemy thing is difficult. I think it'd be fair to finish this round's actions with Nella, Smiley and Kharg before moving onto mine and Jillia's next round, assuming the remaining beetles live that long. The posting rate seems like it's going fast enough that it wouldn't impact on play speed.
Jillia Tennille |
As far as the "one enemy"/"double turns," it doesn't bother me any.
Also, since I know there's a clock ticking, I'm okay with some of the fights going quicker than normal. No worries here.
Penelope 'Nella' Tabor |
Thanks guys! Regarding the 'double turns' thing it doesn't bother me either way; I've seen it done before in the interests of keeping combat moving along.
@Jillia - Hehe yeah, I figured for anyone in melee it's likely to be either AC or attack rolls but wasn't sure if people preferred one or the other. Your comment about Jillia's combat style is noted for sure :)
Jillia Tennille |
For the sake of total disclosure:
Tomorrow I'll be away from my computer for most of the day, and for a good portion of the day on Sunday (judging a MtG tournament, GMing locally, and GMing for Aethercon on Sunday). I'll try and get a post or two in via my phone, but no guarantees.
GM Wolfpirit4W |
That's perfectly fine; thanks for letting us know. If you'd like, I can GM- NPC you if there's something waiting on you for over a day.
Throughout this, no one should be afraid to be honest about when you can't reliably post. I expect there will be a decent chunk of that around Thanksgiving in particular.
In the interest of disclosure, I'll probably go dark on posting tonight and be a bit sporadic myself through the weekend. I'll keep everyone updated on when I might be around though.
In general, I expect that the pace will slow down some over the weeekends, but we've had a pretty exceptional pace so far. There's a few "meatier" encounters that I suspect will take longer, but the progress of this table is well ahead of a few others. (With my other table we ran straight away into a combat that we've only done 3 damage in so far...)
Penelope 'Nella' Tabor |
I'll go ahead and mention that I'll be out of town Monday and Tuesday; I should have WiFi access at the hotel but any posting I do won't be until later in the evening/night for those two days.
Penelope 'Nella' Tabor |
Hee, Nella's point was that if there's a building on the grounds (Arliss Hall) that can change its shape/interior then anything is possible, such as this building having a secret entrance ;)
Penelope 'Nella' Tabor |
Re: Vermicious Knids - I didn't just make them up! Well, Nella did but I didn't... :)
GM Wolfpirit4W |
Oh, I know exactly what they are. It just took me (as the GM) a while to figure out how to process the level of zaniness going on and how to translate it into the game events. Crack team of infiltration experts, you are not.
Pathfinders. Breaking encounters since forever.
GM Wolfpirit4W |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Despite the serious nature of this encounter and how touch and go things were (you guys were a bad dice away from toasted pathfinder agents), for some reason I had Yakety Sax playing in my head throughout it.
GM Wolfpirit4W |
Oh! I need to get a direction you guys want to go now. You've exhausted this section
Penelope 'Nella' Tabor |
For what it's worth, I've got other characters that would've taken a much more sensible approach like oh, trying to talk the guy down...but thankfully things worked out and now there's a funny story to be told, heh.
Speaking of Faction Cards, would the guy's surrender also count for this goal for the Silver Crusade, or would Nella need to escort the guy herself for it to count?
Accept the surrender of an enemy combatant (other than an evil outsider or undead creature), and ensure his fair treatment until he can be safely released, ransomed, or delivered to authorities for justice. Alternatively, allow an enemy combatant with no means of escape to flee without further harm.

I just love the fact that the cleric with a strength of 10 is succeeding at physical challenges the martial types aren't.
I'm pretty sure that allowing HK to go satisfies the faction goal.

Here's the various application of Aid Tokens:
Once per encounter, any character at a table can use an Aid Token to assist the group in one of five ways described below. Once a table uses an Aid Token, the token grants no further benefit until the end of the encounter, at which point one of the players can pass the Aid Token to a neighboring table for them to use. It is very important that the players remember that there are a limited number of Aid Tokens, and hoarding one means that somebody else doesn’t get to use it.
An Aid Token’s benefits vary based on the table’s subtier, and these benefits can take one of the following five forms.
Aid Another: A Pathfinder agent helps the PCs solve a puzzle, disable a trap, or accomplish some other task as if performing the aid another action for a PC.
Allied Offensive: A Pathfinder agent strikes a creature at the same time as the PC, increasing the damage dealt by one attack by 1d8 points. In addition, after the attack, the target is considered to be flanked until the beginning of the attacker’s next turn.
Burst of Healing: A Pathfinder agent heals all of the PCs of 1d6 points of damage. Alternatively, in any subtier the agent can instead cast neutralize poison, remove curse, or remove disease with a caster level equal to the table’s APL (minimum 5).
Spellcasting Synergy: A Pathfinder agent casts a spell at the same time, increasing the save DC and caster level of a PC’s spell by 1.
Timely Inspiration: A Pathfinder agent provides the effects of a bard’s inspire courage bardic performance for 3 rounds. In Subtiers 1–2 and 3–4, the competence bonus is +1.
Jillia Tennille |
A noteworthy thing is that if we use it promptly, another table can benefit from it. Hoarding them is inefficient.
GM Wolfpirit4W |
Yeah. They can keep getting passed around, so if they get used, it's more likely one can come back again. Don't waste it, obviously, but don't save it for the end battle.
Penelope 'Nella' Tabor |
Should we discuss when during an encounter we want to use it or is it just kinda up to whoever decides to do it first? I don't mind having a discussion, but I want to be sure because it's tempting to just use it now to patch Smiley and Kharg up :)
GM Wolfpirit4W |
Up to you guys on how you want to use them or decide on how to use them.
If Smiley decides to use Aid Another to attack a butterfly though, it's on your own heads.
Jillia Tennille |
Butterfly had it coming!
I'm not going to complain if we use it for some extra healing. The 3 rounds of inspire courage ain't bad either.
GM Wolfpirit4W |
I just made a note in the Gameplay that you guys found some potions of CLW that you could probably use to top off healing.
Markus Notine |
The Overseer announcement said that once we use a token we have to nominate a table and pass it over in character. How do we choose a table?
I agree with Jillia, the healing and inspiration seem the most efficient uses.
GM Wolfpirit4W |
There's a list of tables that have received an Aid Token. I'll figure out how easy it is to get the list of tables that don't have one.
Worst case, I know one table that hasn't gotten one. ;)
Smiley Stonegirdle |
I think Nella requested a CLW potion before anybody else chimed in, so that leaves no extra for Kharg. :-(
That leaves only the Invisibility potion unclaimed. Markus is the only one who only took one item, so I suggest it go to him.
CLW <-- Smiley
CLW <-- Kharg
CLW <-- Jillia
CLW <-- Nella
Invisibility <-- Markus
Tanglefoot <-- Smiley
Tanglefoot <-- Nella
Tanglefoot <-- Kharg
Smoke stick <-- Markus
Bead of Fireball <-- Smiley
Hand of the Mage <-- Kharg
Smiley Stonegirdle |
a Bead from a Necklace of Fireballs When thrown at a target, deal 2d6 points of fire damage in a 40-foot radius (Reflex DC 14 half )
I think you meant 20 ft radius, yes?
GM Wolfpirit4W |
Nella was saying Jillia might want a CLW. I don't think she was wanting one for herself.
Moving the Hand of Mage discussion here.
I believe the Hand of Mage uses a Standard Action to use and otherwise works as if you were using Mage Hand. Mage Hand only works on unattended items, which the keys are not.
If someone disarmed the keys, then it would be a valid target, though.
Jillia Tennille |
Unless noted otherwise, magic items are command-worded, which means standard action. I can't imagine HotM would be any different (and if it did, it would state it).
Kharg |
Well, I should probably get in the habit of checking the discussion tab more often! I just posted in gameplay about using the HotM. I drew the same conclusions as GM and Jillia on the hand. I sort of played it out because I did not want to blatantly meta-game.
As far as the aid token goes, I agree that the healing or inspiration would be good uses of the boon. I am willing to give my vote proxy on when to use it to either Markus or Nella. As spellcasters, I think they are in the best position to know when we are running out of resources.
GM Wolfpirit4W |
We can have the discussion here about whether to press on or take it easy the next few days. I'm open either way and think the combat is do-able (especially if Kharg breaks stuff the way he occasionally does) but if people have a busy holiday schedule I don't want the group to waste resources and possibly not get the Encounter completed.
Penelope 'Nella' Tabor |
I'm also happy to tackle the last encounter; I'll obviously be out and about a fair amount of the day tomorrow but I should be able to post tomorrow evening for sure :)
GM Wolfpirit4W |
Yeah, sounds like we're going for it. It'll be nice to say we cleared it all, too. If for some reason anyone has to duck out for an extended period of time, just let me know, and I can auto-pilot or delay you.
Penelope 'Nella' Tabor |
Happy Thanksgiving to all the US folks and Happy Thursday for all those that live elsewhere in our wide world! :)
Jillia Tennille |
I echo this statement!
The Hazuka Family Thanksgiving Dinner would rival the scope of the Grand Covocation...
GM Wolfpirit4W |
Really sorry about that guys :( I'm sure we'll still manage to wrap up the fight between today and the next half day (though mostly relying on Kharg for the damage, it appears ;)) If only there were actions for people that can't do meaningful damage and / or a token that helped increase the chance that he hit <.<
Yesterday went from "We're going over to friends for lunch, we're not going to spend all day" to lunch(?) not being served until 5:00PM and us not leaving until after 10:00, an hour drive, and a lack of reliable cell reception so I just crashed when I got home without checking to make sure that message posted.
Hopefully everyone had a great Thanksgiving though! Not let's carve some statues!
Jillia Tennille |
I'm all for calling in a bard for alleviating hardness a bit.
For what it's worth, Jillia is switching to a (hopefully) more effective weapon on her turn.
@GM: No worries! Real life always comes first.
Smiley Stonegirdle |
Allied Offensive could be useful too.
Penelope 'Nella' Tabor |
No worries GM! Also, sorry about my own delayed posting today; spent the better part of the day in bed feeling kinda sick but thankfully feeling better now. Maybe if we're quick we can at least kill one of the statues before we transition to the next phase :)
On another note, I might be pushing the limits of acceptable taste by saying this but I struggled with finding a way to write Nella using that whistle without it opening the doorway to a slew of dirty jokes :P
GM Wolfpirit4W |
Is there anyone that you guys would like to nominate to pass off the aid token? I'll double check with the GM to make sure that he didn't already shuffle it off.
Also, this afternoon marks a scene shift! I'll be out GMing at a Game Day, but I'll try to have stuff set so I can post from my phone
GM Wolfpirit4W |
I meant, is there someone that you would like to go make an in-character post to pass the token along ;) I'm seeing if there's anyone else that hasn't gotten a token, but I wouldn't turn one down for my table, if it isn't too much of collusion, heh.
The Core table is going. We've gotten through ~4 encounters, though the rate of posting is a lot slower.
Our mage with a strength of 14 and a MW Bastard Sword is doing a decent "Kharg" impression and randomly splattering guys, which I find hilarious. The Ranger / Rogue I'm playing also came prepared with a Wand of CLW and a variety of skills and knowledges that have come in handy ;) I think my character is the only one that isn't level 1 and doesn't have 2 skills per level. It might have been a different story if Jester was a level 1 pregen instead of a Core approximation of a Slayer.
GM Wolfpirit4W |
As an aside, that last encounter was *rough* There were at least two times that you got an enemy down to 1-2 hp from going down. Humans Fighters with Toughness, an AC of 20, and potions of CLW are kind of nasty at level 1...
