Eristinian begins working the lock, taking his time and being very careful. A few moments later, there is a commotion from the doorway. Kell squawks and ducks under the bed as the largest goblin you have ever seen comes through the doorway! He stands five feet in height and carries a greatsword. He is flanked by two good-sized and burly goblins equipped with chain shirts and horsechoppers.

The largest of the goblins is momentarily caught off-guard, but swiftly recovers. "Intruzów! Zabij ich!"

Goblin:
"Intruders! Kill them!"

One of the guards immediately moves to confront Galfon, slashing at the halfling. It is a solid blow, but Galfon manages to twist to avoid the brunt of it. (Galfon takes 2 points of damage!)

Friar O'Grady delays his action, as does Greatshanks, waiting to see how effective his bodyguards are.

Galfon shouts out in both surprise and pain, the realization that goblins were upon them sinking a moment too late. Gritting his teeth he backs away from his attacker and pulls back his bowstring, pointing at them the very same arrow he has had nocked since entering this godsforsaken place.

Caelryl swings his sword but meets only empty air. Galfon takes a step back and fires his bow at point-blank range, but though the arrow hits, it does not penetrate the heavy chains that are wrapped around the bulky goblin's body. The other guard moves in and also confronts Caelryl with its horsechopper, but the hasty blow is clumsy and misses the agile elf.

On my phone so I can't see if Tasius is in melee, so I don't know if he needs to cast defensively or not.

Tasius draws his rapier and with a thought enchants it with a fraction of its power causing it to glow softly. He then utters a quick warding spell for the combat ahead!

As Tasius casts his spell, Eristinian steps up and engages the guard that had attacked Galfon, his blade finding a hole in the goblin's armor and inflicting a deep cut. The goblin seems not to notice, save for a grunt of pain.

It smiles wickedly and swings its horsechopper at Eristinian. Eristinian manages to defer the blade; though he still suffers a nasty wound, his efforts turn a potentially fatal blow into a glancing one. Eristinian suffers 4 points of damage.

Now Friar O'Grady moves into the fray, channeling healing energies and giving all of his allies a warm, healthy glow. (Everyone recovers 7 points of damage.)

After another goblin's blade connects, Eristinian adjusts to stay out of reach of the horsechopper. "Time to even things up," he says, pulling an extract from his pouch, giving it a quick shake, and drinking it. A screen of pure force begins whirling around him.

I think he's got a clear path to Greatshanks.
Later Tasius couldn't explain what possessed him, but at that very moment it seemed there was nothing for it, but to charge that monstrous chieftain! Sword first, Tasius smacked into Greatshanks at full pelt, aiming for his guts.

Eristinian casts a spell to even the odds against the goblin bodyguard as Tasius, possessed by some unknown force, charges Greatshanks, ramming his scimitar home into the giant goblin's gut. For his part, the surprised goblin weathers the blow that would have slain an ordinary one of his kind (or even a human).

The wounded bodyguard takes a five-foot step to disengage from Caelryl and slashes at Tasius instead! The blow is deflected, however, by the magical field of force that surrounds the hexcrafter! Greatshanks, now moved to join the melee, takes up his greatsword and swings at Tasius. The weapon clangs into the ground, dislodging several chips of stone.

Realizing that they are in the fat now, Friar O'Grady resolves himself to joining the fray. He strikes at the wounded guard, moving to flank with Tasius, but the blow (though powerful) misses.

"All right, that's enough," Galfon says resolutely, more to himself than anyone else in the room. Eyeing Greatshanks, the paladin takes a deep breath and slowly draws back his bowstring, pointing the tip of his arrow right at the leader of the group. There was not a doubt in his mind that the goblin was as wicked as the rest, if not more. "Deadeye, grant me this - let my arrow fly true and strike down this wretched creature."

Apparently dead to his god, Galfon has no words for what happens next.

The harried guard attempts another swing at Eristinian. The blade would have connected, were it not stopped by the invisible shield that protects the elf.

Friar O'Grady attacks again but misses handily.

Greatshanks swings hard, hoping to decapitate Tasius and very nearly does so. His blade is turned by Tasius' shield, but still manages to bite deeply into the man's shoulder. Tasius falls to the ground, bleeding heavily. (Tasius takes 16 points of damage!) The goblin chieftain laughs coldly!

Caelryl strikes in desperation, trying to down the guard, but once more, his blow is turned by the armor the goblin wears. Galfon is more successful, and his arrow catches the goblin leader in the ribs as it turns. The leader snarls angrily and snatches the arrow from the wound. The guard that Caelryl is engaged against scores a solid hit upon the elf. (Caelryl takes 9 points of damage!)

O'Grady grabs his holy symbol and prays aloud and once again, a warmth of healing spreads over the party members (everyone heals 2 points).

Greatshanks enters the melee now, swinging at the friar, but the priest's armor turns the blow.

Caelryl grits his teeth to try to muffle the scream of pain from the goblin attack. Greatly concerned they may not get out of here alive, and trying to avoid another hit, he drops his sword and takes a step backward. Eristinian strikes at the guard, his blade cutting into the creature's throat, but the blow is a glancing one, not solid. The goblin squeals in rage. The guard battling Caelryl and Galfon swings at the halfling, cutting deeply into his body (Galfon takes 7 points of damage) even as O'Grady releases another healing burst (everyone heals 5 points of damage). No sooner does he finish his prayer than Greatshanks manages to connect with the good friar (O'Grady takes 9 points of damage).

Galfon lets out a shout of pain when the guard's attack connects, but the wound is healed away almost instantly by the friar's channel. Realizing that focus firing Greatshanks isn't working, the paladin decides to turn his attention to the chieftain's flunkies. Unfortunately, without Erastil's power guiding his hand, his next shot goes way off its mark.

Sounds good, Caelryl, my calculations may be a little off.

Caelryl steps back and fires again, putting another arrow into the guard and it staggers slightly before pitching forward to the ground, bleeding from the wound. Galfon fires at the other guard, but the shot misses.

"There's more where that came from, cur!", Eristinian says with coldness in his voice as he thrusts his rapier at the goblin again. His overconfidence gets the better of him, though, and the greenskinned creature easily dodges out of the way, cackling all the while.
