Aisha Rageborn |
Aisha is silently a little impressed with a simple vermin's resilience. She frowns and pulls a rock from her belt pouch. It lifts into the air, then flies at the spider. Unfortunately, the rock goes more than a little wide and misses entirely.

With a horrific blow, Norasha brings the spider down, ending the threat. Boram staggers slightly under the effects of the venom. "I'll be no more good to you until I get to feeling better, yeah. I'll only slow you down if I remain on."
Rokar Longclaw |
Rokar frowns as Boram acknowledges his injury, but realizes that he's almost certainly right. "Big spider like that, you're making the right choice, friend. Go rest up, we'll check in with you later. Be careful on your way back. We'll finish up here quickly anyway, I'm sure."
Aisha Rageborn |
"Try to make your way to the Sanctuary," Aisha suggests. "You certainly look like you need some care from a healer."
Norasha Mountainrunner |
"Aye. Do ye need someone to take you over there? I can check and see if I can help first though. You'll probably still need to head to the Sanctuary to heal any injuries afterwards."
Heal: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Norasha sees if any herbs or plants she has can help Boram.
WhtKnt |
Norasha is able to ease the sting of the venom, but Boram will still need rest and care to recover. "I think I can make it on my own, though I'll not turn down company, yeah."
Rokar Longclaw |
"Company it is then, friend. It's dangerous out there enough if you're healthy, and we've got the added bonus of being tracked by assassins. No, we'll bring you back. Maybe Sara can find you somewhere nice to hide while you recover. We should seek her out."
Rokar is impressed by Boram's bravery, but unwilling to risk his life further.
"Shall we, then?" He gestures back the way they came, and will follow if the others agree.
WhtKnt |
Following Boram back to the healer's, you find two others there, looking for adventure.
Psst! That's you, Corric and Magnus.
Corric Toppleton |
There's a small thud as a small humanoid form falls from atop the roof, and into dirt below.
"Ooph!"
The small halfling picks himself up, and tries to dust off the dirt on his jacket, but only smears the dirt further. He notices the party looking at him.
"What? Haven't you ever seen a halfling fall from the sky before?"
Norasha Mountainrunner |
"Yeah a flying Orc is something you're used to if you're a dwarf. I've seen a few orcs catapult goblins at a fortified wall before. Bad day for the goblins though," Norasha said with a smirk as she helped the halfling up.
"So what be yer name stranger?"
Corric Toppleton |
"Corric. Corric Toppleton. And might I say..." he looks at the group, moves to the right and stares at another angle, "you guys are one motley group of haggard individuals."
He winks at Norasha and Aisha, puffs out his small halfing chest and strikes a pose of sorts.
"How about it ladies? What I lack in feet I make up in inches."
So I envision Corric as a pretty open individual, his natural charisma eventually winning you over even if he originally offends you. As for his casual invitation, sorry if that's not okay for this game. I'll adjust.
Aisha Rageborn |
I'm alright with it. Aisha's very shy in character though.
Aisha blushes, making her face go bright red. "Oh my..." She seems at a loss for words for the moment.
Norasha Mountainrunner |
Norasha rolls her eyes a bit and smirks. "Heard that one before," she thought to herself.
"Ye ain't me type, Corric. Sorry about that. Although I have a sister and cousin ye might be interested in and they might be interested in ye, too. Me, I'm interested, in this green-skinned woman beside me. She's got quite the figure if ye ask me."
She winks at Aisha before remembering herself.
"Ahem, anyhow, what possessed ye to get on the roof?"
She did glance a bit at Aisha, thinking, "Girl is good on the eyes that's for sure. Father would bang his head through a mountainside if he saw me flirting with a half-orc woman. Ah well, love finds us the most unusual partners at times I guess."
It's cool. Norasha is actually interested in Aisha, but she's a friendly dwarven paladin so she'll get along with Corric just fine. So, no problem.
Corric Toppleton |
Corric looked at the two of them, the brash and the bashful.
Ah...
He had been around long enough to know a fun pairing when he saw it. There was more ways to amuse oneself than in the bed after all.
"To answer your question miss, we must first ask ourselves why are halflings so small. Was it not those who made us to be so loow to the ground yet dream of standing taller than trees or mountains? Nay! I say we wee folk are destined to stand taller above the rest! It just so happens that I climb on top of things to do it."
There was a clanging from the rooftop, and a jumbled up hammock came tumbling down, the makeshift wooden stilts coming with it. With a quick step, Corric moved out of harm's way as the mess fell to the ground.
He paused, before looking back to the group.
"Or...my makeshift napping spot had a bit of malfunction. That's also a reasonable explanation."
Rokar Longclaw |
With Corric being from Trunau, Rokar is likely to at least recognize him, even if they don't run in the same circles.
"Hah, a good try Corric. Better luck next time though."
Grateful for a little mood-lightening, Rokar smiles a toothy grin while looking at the others.
With those assassins out there, anyone could be an enemy, but Corric? Seems unlikely. And what assassin tries to bed his mark? Only the best or the worst, I'd think.
"I'll vouch for Corric here, ladies. Joking aside, we could use some of his help."
Turining back to Corric, "We're looking into some things for Sara Morninghawk down at the Plague House, and quite frankly, with Boram injured none of us are near as capable as you would be at digging through the old place. Care to tag along?
Corric Toppleton |
"An errand for MorningHawk? Blegh!"
But then he stops to think. If Sara had ever gotten wind that he could have helped the town instead of "goofing off" he'd never hear the end of it. Besides, it might be favorable to build some good will with the town before he screwed up something bad.
"Well, with afternoon of napping ruined I might as well tag along."
He looks at the ladies once more.
"I suppose we'll be getting to know each other better whether in its in a bed or not."
He has a jovial smile on his lips, excited for the prospect of spending time with two lovely ladies and a big fluffy catfolk.
If Milani is around...
Corric eyes the large tiger, wondering if he could away with getting a free ride.
Rokar Longclaw |
"Ha! Not recommended, Corric, if you're thinking what I think you're thinking," Rokar laughs, noticing him sizing up Milani.
"We've had a rough couple of days, what with everything going on with Rodrik. Everyone's a little on edge, Milani included. But hey, play your cards right, and maybe she'll let you eventually. Your stature is more suited to riding her than mine, at present anyway. She is still growing, after all, aren't you girl?"
Rokar pets Milani casually on the head, then looks over and makes eye contact with Corric, getting a little more grim. "Speaking of Rodrik, there's some things we should catch you up on..."
Anyone have a preference for doing the catchup in character or not? Are you familiar with the AP Corric, or have you read the thread so far? Also, Magnus, where you at bud?
Aisha Rageborn |
"I'm afraid that Boram was injured by a rather unpleasantly large spider," Aisha adds. "So we needed to get him some help before we continued our investigation."
Norasha Mountainrunner |
Sorry I haven't posted yet. Been busy lately. :(
Norasha just stared at Corric before she busted out laughing. She laughed so hard she almost forgot to breath.
"Corric ye scoundrel! Ye have quite the sense of humor. And let no one tell ye that we dwarves don't have an eye and ear for humor! I haven't laughed this hard since me half blind granddad punched an innkeeper for serving him orc wine! That innkeeper must have been born yesterday as no sane person would dare try to pass off orc wine for dwarven wine!"
Norasha then added getting serious, "Aye poor Rodrik was a victim of a conspiracy. There are white marks on several places in town and someone went to a lot of trouble to make it look like Rodrik took his own life. Which I didn't believe such a man madly in love and full of spirit would just suddenly take his own life. As a dwarven paladin, Torag would have my hide if I didn't see this thing through to the end. I tell y'all: this town is being set up for an attack. We dwarves have a nose for these types of things. Call us paranoid if ye will but I've been trained in the Ninth Battalion so you can be sure something big is going to happen. But first Rokar is right: we need to get Boram to a healer. I've done some patching him up but still he'll need to see someone more experienced than me."
The female dwarf raised an eyebrow as she smiled at Corric's flirts. She then smiled at Aisha as she shrugged saying "Still Corric we will be glad to have you come along. Just be careful. We were attacked by assassins and drugged wolves so ye can be sure someone isn't too happy about us avenging Rodrik."
Aisha Rageborn |
"Aisha," the half-orc says, inclining her head to the halfling. "I'm afraid I'm not out and about much, but I've been in town for quite some time."
Norasha Mountainrunner |
Laughing a bit, Norasha introduces herself.
"The name's Norasha Mountainrunner, paladin of Bolka at your service. I just got here a few days ago. Was traveling with a trade caravan all the way from Janderoff."
Rokar Longclaw |
As the others meet Corric, Rokar leads Boram into the Sanctuary, seeking out a healer for him and wishing him well.
He returns to outside after a few minutes to find the introductions wrapping up.
Anyone seen or heard from our other new PC?
WhtKnt |
Okay, Magnus has had to bow out so we're a foursome again.
Rokar Longclaw |
"Well, Aisha is one of Trunau's best kept secrets, Corric. Can't let everyone know. And lucky for us, Norasha's just arrived recently with a caravan. Though maybe she'll be sticking around a bit. She seems to like what she sees...ha!" Rokar laughs as he acknowledges the two women.
Wow, all this and I'm still laughing...wow...
Rokar shakes his head a bit, reorienting himself. He lowers his voice before continuing, in case anyone happens to be listening, "Anyway, they've assured me Boram is in good hands. Back to the Plauge House then?"
Aisha Rageborn |
"We don't have anywhere else to go," Aisha agrees. She doesn't like leaving Boram alone, considering that someone has tried to kill them more than once, but they can't do much just sitting around.
Norasha Mountainrunner |
Norasha nodded at Rokar saying, "That's good to hear that Boram will recover. May Torag and Bolka watch over him. Also, yep. I got here in a trade caravan. Every caravan needs a warrior to protect it!"
When Corric asked for someone to carry him, the dwarven paladin quickly volunteered someone.
"Here ye go! Milani will be more than happy to carry ye Corric!"
Norasha then patted Milani's back smiling commenting, "It'll be like riding a horse, or dog since halflings usually ride dogs or wolves. Although they do ocassionally ride small ponies too now that I think of it."
Aisha Rageborn |
"Wait until you've seen an orc warlord riding a giant boar," Aisha says. "Then you'll really have seen something special."
Corric Toppleton |
Those who know Corric for a long time can tell when he's getting excited for a very bad idea. His normal wry smirk, a happy default of how he lives his life becomes wider as the corners of his mouth rise higher.
Limb Climber: Climb Check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
If that beats Milani's CMD, Corric is successfully able to climb onto its back with no trouble. Being on its back does nothing except we occupy the same space, and it get's penalties to attack me, which if it does then I'll probably need that
Rokar Longclaw |

With a growl, Milani whips her head back towards Corric.
Rokar slides forward quickly, laying a hand on her, and murmuring Whoa girl, whoa...

Milani shakes the halfling off of her back and growls menacingly.

Rokar Longclaw |
"OK Corric, that's probably enough of that for now. Let's get going shall we?"
And be happy you've still got all your limbs...
Rokar breathes a sign of relief as the situation diffuses, glad that no one is the worse for it.
"Let's get back to the Plague House, shall we, everyone? Milani, come on girl, you too."
Rokar starts walking, and will continue as the others follow.
Assuming we're not waylaid...
"Up there, and to the right Corric, that's where we found the spider," Rokar announces, as they enter the building, having climbed back up the entrance.
"There's a hidden basement off through this room with the cots, but we were saving that for last- it didn't suit Milani very much. Oh, and I think Boram had had been looking over there when the spider attacked" he finishes, pointing to the hallway on the left.
Aisha Rageborn |
Aisha is fairly quiet on their way back to the Plague House. "So we replace one eager halfling with another. The world works in strange ways sometimes..." She shakes herself from her stray thoughts and focuses as they return to the burned out building, keeping a look out for more vermin that might be skulking about.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Rokar Longclaw |
"Anything suspicious... not that that's particularly helpful," Rokar says, "but according to his journal, Rodrik was investigating something down here, and it looks like whatever he stumbled upon cost him his life."
"Best we can figure, all the weird things in town, the graffiti, Rodrik, our would-be assassins, the strange lights and 'spirits' people have been claiming to see down here are all related. More than likely, someone's basing out of here, and trying hard to cover their tracks."
Norasha Mountainrunner |
"Rokar has pretty much said everything I was going to say. I do hope we find the hope knife that Rodrik lost while investigating here. It would prove my theory that someone tried to make it appear that Rodrik killed himself when really someone murdered him. Hopefully we can find it. For his love's peace of mind," Norasha added. She gripped her axe tightly as she thought about Brinya's face and the tears streaming down it.
WhtKnt |
Close examination of the corner where the spider had been reveals a abandoned hopeknife sitting in plain sight on the shelf.
"What's this, then?" Corric says, examining the bookshelf more closely. He fidgets with a section of the shelf and opens a concealed panel containing an ornate gold coffer, studded with gems.
Meanwhile, Aisha follows the trail of the magical auras that she detected earlier and finds, after pushing aside some loose boards and debris, two iron flasks, a beat-up steel scroll case, and two crystal vials of clear liquid.
Norasha Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 (darkvision)

Aisha Rageborn |
Aisha follows the trail in silence, making sure to keep everyone else in sight just in case something jumps her. She pushes past the debris and picks through the items. "Curious..." Her eyes light up again, examining the items under mage sight. She also opens the scroll case to check its contents.

The clear liquids prove to be holy water (non-magical). One iron flask contains a potion of shield of faith, the other oil of magic weapon. The scroll case holds three scrolls; two of knock and one of summon swarm.
Rokar Longclaw |
Rokar exhales with both relief and surprise as they take stock of what they've found.
"Safe to say we've stumbled onto their nest-egg...Whomever they are."
Aisha Rageborn |
"Interesting," Aisha mutters. "Holy water doesn't seem like an assassin's tool. Perhaps these were left behind by someone from the plague house." She lifts the scrolls up. "Rokar, I think at least one of these will be useful for you. It calls up a swarm of ravenous insects to attack your foes." She lifts up the last two vials. "And these two seem to be useful. One calls on divine power to protect the drinker and the other enchants a weapon for a short time."
Rokar Longclaw |
"Maybe the holy water made them feel better about the spirits in this place. You're right thoughit is weird." Rokar reaches out to take the scroll from Aisha.
Looking over at Corric inspecting the coffer, he laughs. "Oh, now you're cautious Corric? You'll jump on the tiger, but a little pot has you scared?"
WhtKnt |
Corric notes no traps on the box.
I'll also point out the abandoned hopeknife that seems to have been overlooked.
