GM WhtKnt's Alternity: Perpetual Twilight (Inactive)

Game Master WhtKnt

A spacer's life is never easy, and doubly so in the Verge. If the kaa or the klicks don't get you, something else will. It takes nerves of steel to hurtle through the void in a tube of metal, exploring strange new worlds, seeking out new life and new civilizations, and all that stuff.

As Rrin jumps on the man and the effectively pins him, Lig'Tu just starts laughing. At first it's a chuckle or two, but soon he is roaring with laughter...about half of it is real, too.

Sadly, the pistol is confiscated as evidence.

Rayshel puts her finger to her lips and looks to see if anyone else is around. Satisfied, she reaches into her shirt and pulls out a necklace with an odd, glowing stone in the center of it.

"I don't know what it does," she whispers. "Mommy gave it to me and said that I should keep it hidden from everybody but Daddy. But I guess it's okay to show you."

"Can you tell us anything about your father, his address, where he works?"

Rrin's eyes widen at the stone, then says gently, "Best hide that for now, Rayshel... Your mother was quite wise to tell you to keep it out of sight for now." Though it's clear that some people, at least, know if it's existence based on the false father's screams...

"Cub, you should tell us of your birthers. What are their occupations? What are their skin patterns?"

Rayshel hangs onto Alita as if her life were dependent on such. "Daddy's name is Michael and he's a coo-coor- he carries messages for important people. He lives on Aw-lawn-dril (the main inhabited planet in the Tendril system is Alaundril and you suspect this may be the planet she is trying to reference). I live with Mommy, but she let me come see Daddy just this once. Mommy's name is Susan."

When Lig'Tu speaks, she shrinks in fear, but manages to stammer, "I-I don't know what oc-ocu-ocupatin means, but Mommy has black hair."

Lincoln gives his most charming smile and speaks to the young girl. "So your mother just dropped you off here to find your father? Where is she now, and why didn't she stay with you until your father had you safe and sound"?

"Mommy put me on the shuttle and Daddy was supposed to pick me up, except he didn't. That man did and he told the nice lady that he was my Daddy. I tried to tell her, so I ran away."

Even in this day and age, children are sometimes put on a plane and remanded to the care of a steward until they reach their destination and are turned over to a guardian. It is unusual, but not unheard of.

Is there any sort of "Phone book" available, presumably on a computer system somewhere?

Dark Archive

Maps: Car. Crown || Forge of Heroes || Skull & Shackles

Sure.

Rrin winces sightly at the reminder that the girl's father isn't here. I can't imagine that the arrival of a kit is the sort of thing even a human would forget... That... plus the knowledge of her adornment... rather bodes ill.

He stretches out again, using his movements as a cover to scan the area to see if there's any persistent (unhealthy) interest in the girl or the group, then suggests, "Maybe the station's authorities could locate the kit's sure?"

Alita heads towards the data access point and checks local directories for a Michael Pasteur, failing any instances there, she'll check the last weeks local news, see if he features in there.

I get the impression he doesn't live locally so I'm not sure how much help this will be...

Local datanet indicates that a Michael Pasteur does live on Alaundril (the planet in this system about which the station is in orbit), in the city of Babel (the capital). You can bring up his address and comm data easily enough. AT the moment, no one seems to be taking an interest.

"Well, I suppose we try the obvious first, lets see if we can reach him." Alita tries to establish a comm link with Michael.

Dark Archive

Maps: Car. Crown || Forge of Heroes || Skull & Shackles

There is no answer on the comms (and he would likely have his comm with him).

Alita considers leaving a message, but if someone malign has his comm it could bring trouble back to us. Better to try again later.

I assume there's no way to detirmine where his comm his located?

Anything relevant or otherwise interesting in recent news?

Dark Archive

Maps: Car. Crown || Forge of Heroes || Skull & Shackles

No way to determine directly where his comm is located. Now, if perhaps you knew someone with System Operations--Communication and Computer Science--Hacking...

No developments in recent news, no.

Before you can take another step towards finding the girl's father, however, alarms blare and the entire station goes into lockdown. Marines appear at every corner and ensure that everyone stays put.

"That's probably not good, right?" says Lig'Tu jokingly to lighten the mood.

"We should probably move up against the wall and get out of these marines' way. Might give someone a place to hide, too."

Lig'Tu will then move up against the wall and place his back vertical to the wall, while moving his legs at an angle, allowing for a space that a, say, small human could hide in.

Alita disconnects and returns to the girl, she should definately not do anything suspicious at this point.

Lincoln slowly eases away from the group, and tries to find somewhere nearby to "keep an eye" on the situation... preferably somewhere that serves alcohol.

Rrin chuckles at the Weren's joke, "I don't think it's a welcoming committee.... Actually, I hope it isn't.", then follows Lig'tu's lead, trying to block sightlines to Rayshel with his own positioning... Without being too obvious about it.

After a good ten minutes, the alarms stop, but the marines remain in position. Movement through the station has stopped, as though everyone was frozen in their tracks. Lincoln overhears someone whispering that a body had been found in one of the washrooms. Another tense 20 minutes pass and then an announcement comes over the intercom that everyone may resume normal operations and go about their business.

"Well, I guess we're in the clear. Now we should try to find the girl's father. Any luck on the fartalker?"

"No, he's not answering."
did I get an image of what he looks like?
in a low voice that the girl hopefully won't hear.
"I'm not liking this rumour of a body, not sure I want an valuable orphan on my hands."

Dark Archive

Maps: Car. Crown || Forge of Heroes || Skull & Shackles

Yes, you can bring up a picture of him. He looks nothing like the man who tried to take Rayshel.

"If you have a picture of him, we should go find out either way."

Rrin nods, "Agreed. As much as I think we can all guess the result."

Alita will try and move towards the washrooms, see if they can get anywhere near, unless the body has been moved already.

She will also endeavour to keep Reyshiel back.

Male Human Diplomat (Free Agent)

Lincoln also knows better but decides that seeing the body found in the restrooms might be interesting, and heads that way... after over-tipping the bartender. Never hurts to make a friend in a new place.

As you expected, the law enforcement is keeping everyone clear of the scene, pending notification of next-of-kin. However, an officer does let it slip that the victim's name is Michael Pasteur. Fortunately, Rayshel does not overhear this.

"Well, that was not surprising to anyone who watches human entertainment. Especially the law enforcement entertainment. What should we do now?"

"So, do we hand the girl over to law enforcement, or do we keep her and try to reach the mother?" Alita at least tries to keep her voice from Rayshel, though won't leave the girl far enough to eliminate the possibility of her hearing.

Rrin says, "Not sure that I'd trust law enforcers to not just hand over the kit to the first one to show up with paperwork... Like the documents our now-arrested friend carried. "

Male Human Diplomat (Free Agent)

"Well this seems important. I think we should keep the girl safe somewhere, until we can contact her mother. We need more information in order to make a decision".

"Do her travel paper's have her birther's information?"

Dark Archive

Maps: Car. Crown || Forge of Heroes || Skull & Shackles

Yes, her travel papers do list her point of origin; Port Royal on Lucullus in the Algemron system. It's a short journey, with a good drivership (about 20.21 light years). For a typical small starship, that's a month or so's travel. The papers also list her mother's contact information. Her name is Susan Greymore.

Can't find the reference right now, but Inter-system communication isn't real time is it - so we can send her a message but not call her.

"We should get out of this terminal anyway. If anyone comes looking for her they'll come here."

Perhaps move to some sort of cafe a short distance away, while we decide what to do?

"I agree. We shouldn't stand around gawking like spectators."

Male Strix

It takes 11 hours for a signal to reach another system via drivespace satellite communications.

I'm hoping it is ok that I dive in on this?

A very slightly built sesheyan approaches you. He is wearing green fatigues and a beret, with what were likely corporate patches removed in several locations, and only his namepatch still present, which reads "Choraak." He carries a knife visibly, but amongst the folds and pockets of his clothes, he may have other items hidden away. His many eyes are covered by dark goggles.

He carries himself with a sureness and freedom that would likely not be evident in one of Voidcorps' many employees seshayens.

"The moon hunter watches and sees the many creatures that do not see him. He wonders at their goals, and marvels at their strength. The normal ways of the House of Light are disturbed. A scuffle here, and a death there are not the usual way. The moon hunter sees not coincidence in these things and wonders at the link between them. The dead man will tell no tale, so the moon hunter is forced to query the victor of the fight. What spoils did you gain? The moon hunter seeks excitement before he returns to the nest, and possibly to share in any future spoils and adventure."

Once his long exposition is completed, he slowly bobs around, his head and eyes moving to capture all that he can see in the area. He waits expectantly for a response.

Alita eyes the Seshayan for a moment, his approach at this time seems suspicious - but it seems an odd ploy if he's after the girl. Besides which, it occurs to Alita that she's already putting her faith in a Human, a Weran and Pershala that she barely knew.
"We've already had a stranger resort to violence against us for something we're protecting, I'm sure you will understand if we are cautious to trust you. But if you wish to accompany us, I wil not turn away aid."

Male Strix

"The moon hunter recognizes that the Aleer-kin and her friends might hold suspect his motivations. Strange circumstances breed strange suspicions. The moon hunter offers his company, and will not be offended if mistrust is the price of acceptance."

what does Choraak smell like?

Male Strix

Like a hairless bat that has not showered in several days. It has been way too long away for me to smell like the forests and trees of my homeworld.

Rrin looks at the newcomer, "For the sake of not standing around long enough for our friend's friends to come looking for him... Let's say we're accepting your help provisionally... And that provision would be the Weren tearing you to shreds of you betray us or harm the kit."

Male Strix

"The moon hunter would gladly accept those terms, as he sees no reason to risk the consequences of the hairy one's menacing claws."

"You don't smell like trouble. It should be fine. I've never met anyone who hunts moons before."

Male Strix

"The sniff sense of the great clawed one works well. The moon hunter is trouble for his enemies, which you are not."

Male Human Diplomat (Free Agent)

"All of you have your own particular odor if you ask me. Does anyone know anything about this place? I believe we find an affordable, but discrete hostel, get a couple of rooms, and wait to hear back from the girl's mother. The police will probably only complicate things, and somehow we'll end up in jail".

We need to check on procuring passage to Port Royal, and determine how we're going to pay for it... hopefully the girls mother wants her back bad enough to help out. We should probably keep a close watch out as well, and try to be stealthy as we don't know if the man we thwarted worked alone or not, and it's obvious that this is a pretty important thing to someone".

Male Strix

"The moon hunter is not entirely unfamiliar with the House of Light. View it as a city in the hole of space. All can be found here, food, room, vice."

"If the father of the pup is from this system, the moon hunter politely suggest looking into him while you are here."

"We already did."
