Ophelia sees everything!!!! Lol.
The doors appear to be made of stout oak, but they don't look locked.
Harlod McSavrock |
Harlod looks carefully at Aravashnial, turning his detecting magic at him.
Sense Motive to Sense Enchantment: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Sense Enchantment: You can tell that someone's behavior is being influenced by an enchantment effect even if that person isn't aware of it. The usual DC is 25, but if the target is dominated (see dominate person), the DC is only 15 because of the limited range of the target's activities.
DC 25
DC 15 if dominated
Ophelia Iestelle Glinathir |
Unless there are any objections, Ophelia opens the door, enters the building, and starts scanning the area with Detect Magic, though she waits if any of the more durable members of the group want to join her.
GM Void Dragon |
The door opens and you see two teiflings moving around several bound librarians. A tall man wearing the armor of a crusader is directing an unbound librarian into putting some books around the bound librarians. When he turns around and sees you he snarls.
"Kill them all! Jack take care of these librarians."
Initiative Party: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

The man swings his mace at the unbound librarian before moving up to the door.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
The mace slams into her and she cowers on the floor as he moves forward along with one of the tieflings who attacks Harold.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Damage: 1d6 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 1 + (3) = 8
Luckily Harold's natural reflexes prevent the shortsword the tiefling has from doing anything more than grazing his armor.
The final tiefling attempts to kill one of the bound librarians.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Damage: 1d6 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (4) = 8
But his blade just clatters against the floor as he tries to keep his eyes on the new arrivals.
Ophelia Iestelle Glinathir |
Remembering her combat training from her brief crusading days, Ophelia slowly moves out of the false crusader's reach while never lowering her guard. Once in position, she quickly launches a burst of rainbow-tinted light at her two closest enemies. The elf then promptly uses her favorite magic track to clear the way for the stronger members of the group.

Combat over
GM Void Dragon |
All of the tied up people are still alive just bound with their arms behind their backs and with a rag tied around each of their mouths.
GM Void Dragon |
The back of the building is fine although covered in rubble it appears that someone was digging in the rubble for items.
The librarians seem overjoyed that you all have rescued them.
"Thank you for saving us. If you hadn't gotten us out of there that man was going to have us all burned using our own books. It's only because the back part of the library had collapsed that he hadn't gotten enough books to burn us all."
The librarians point to the crusader as the man who was giving the orders.
GM Void Dragon |
"We don't know that much about what has been going on in the city. Some huge demon came down and destroyed the wizard's tower and we were lucky enough to be in the library. We hid in here until that 'crusader' came by and asked for help. As soon as we opened the doors he and his two friends jumped in and attacked us. The man said something about demons and then began trying to gather enough books to burn us all."
Ophelia Iestelle Glinathir |
"Based on what I have heard, it seems to me that this was partially motivated to finish the demon's work and partially motivated just to terrorize the city. I am glad we arrived quickly enough to stop it and save these good librarians," Ophelia concludes after analyzing all the information given to her thus far. She points at the 'crusader' and his goons and asks, "Maybe we should try and get something out of them?"
GM Void Dragon |
"We don't know anything about what's been going on out in the city besides that it has been attacked by demons. We have heard rumors that the sun’s been rising later and setting earlier each day—soon it’ll be forever night! Also, that Lord Hulrun was killed during the attack and the demons have his body on display!"
Ophelia Iestelle Glinathir |
"That would be a good idea. However, perhaps we should escort these librarians to safety first. Right now, I do not think that this library is safe for anyone to be."
GM Void Dragon |
The three areas mentioned before as safehouse locations were: Nyserian Manor, Topaz Solutions, and the Tower of Estrod. You do know the route to each of the three areas and could reach each of them in any order.
The librarians seem scared, but determined.
"We swore that we not only work for this library, but protect it as well. We will remain here and protect this place while you brave heroes go out and deal with these 'safe houses' you mentioned."
Halara |
Halara seems to get hopeful that they could free the city, since some citizens are brave enough to try, but then she recalls the scene with the ancient dragon, and her smile turn into ashes. "Plus, there is no safe place to escort them to, Ophelia. I vote for us to go to the Manor first. Not that it makes any difference, in my opinion."
GM Void Dragon |
Encounter chance: 1d100 ⇒ 69
You all begin traveling towards the manor without incident. There you find that what was once surely a stately manor is now nothing more than a pile of rubble and a gouged trough of ruin.
Valkyrie Stormseeker |
"Well this thing has seen better days.." Val casts detect magic and sneaks in for a better look..
Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Ophelia Iestelle Glinathir |
"I concur; then again, that description applies to the entire city right now," Ophelia agrees quietly as she also begins to scan over the area with Detect Magic.
GM Void Dragon |
There doesn't seem to be anything left of much value in the ruins magical or otherwise. All that is left are a few piles of stone and a gouge in the earth that leads directly through the manor.
GM Void Dragon |
Continuing onto the Topaz Solutions you find the street that it is on a wooden sign above the door bears a carving of a bundle of orange herbs and flowers hovering over a beaker filled with smoking orange liquid. The building’s windows are tightly shuttered, but the front door hangs halfway off its hinges.
GM Void Dragon |
Before even getting within 30 ft. Of the building Valkyrie can hear the sound of voices in the store. She can hear something about checking out the surrounding buildings.
