When they first meet, Rywokit says, "<Run: greetings> Hello, lady Dolga. It is a socially acceptable pleasure to see you again." bowing, slightly in deference to her station.

Upon hearing the offer, and noting the scroll...
"<Process: implication> ... no, master Konnir is not dead. He cannot be. The scroll will certainly unnecessary. It has to be."

The little wooden creature is clearly shocked at the implication that his master would possibly be in true danger, and is in a state of at least partial denial.

"<Process: thoughtful> ... still, I do vote we hurry as soon as possible." he adds. "<Run: clarification> As soon as we can be ready, that is." he adds.

Lazur gasps at the councilwoman's pronouncement. "You think dad is dead?!?!?! We must get in there as soon a possible. I've got 9 shots and I'm ready to go but with and hour I can add another 10 shots. It's up to the group.

Wait I'm getting ahead of myself."

He lets out a long breath then inhales deeply and slowly exhales.

"Ok, do you know anything about what Dad found in there on his first trip that he brought back that crazy machine and do you know anything about his second trip?

Do you know anything about what happened at the Marrymaid with that person being sliced open?"

Jack regards Lady Dolga with a nod. "With my strength I can build houses and break stone. With the arcane, my physical limits are merely trivial. It matters not, I was not destined to be a great spellcaster like my kin."

"How do we prepare ourselves for if the fire resumes while we are still inside?"

Jack pauses, thinks about his trip over, and asks a question. "Did Garmen Ulreth or the Ropefists have a quarrel with Khonnir, maybe the town?"

"I am also of the opinion that we should prepare well before venturing into the Hill," Raven says in a placid tone. "Everyone should have rope and a lantern, for starters." The Alchemist's dark eyes move to Dolga. "I have a question for you. As the administrator of law and order, you have no doubt had occasion to detain miscreants and confiscate their equipment, including tools used to pick locks and deactivate traps. If you still have a set of such tools, might I loan them from you for use under the Hill? It might be very useful."

With a loud laugh,Dolga says,"They spreading that rumor about again. No one was gutted at the Marrymaid. Unless it was their wallet. Wrennie runs a clean shop, and her grrls are quite capable of taking care of themselves." With a considering pause,"Now I would believe if one of them had cutoff a customer's extremities, if'n you know what I mean..."

"So many questions. Where t' begin...

"Well, as to the first we hope that Khonnir hasn't died, but hoping is for the young and the foolish. When you been around as long as I you understand that the worst is likely and if'n you prepare for it, so much the better. Our little insurance policy, can bring him back. So don't grieve yet."says Dolga with a grim tone.

"As to what's down there, the caves are inhabited by several enormous vermin and other scavengers, along with some strange humanoids who had the ability to blend into the shadows of the cave walls, and a nest of gremlins. Khonnir believed this indicated a deeper connection in the caves to the Darklands, but of more immediate interest was the discovery of a wall of solid metal deep in the caves. A wall made of a skymetal alloy called glaucite. He said it was like the kind we mine from the hills and surrounding plains, but formed into a structure with doors. It was near one of these doors that Khonnir found the broken automaton that he brought back after his first expedition."

Glaucite DC10 KN:Engineering:

When the phrase “Numerian Steel” is used, the speaker is usually, knowingly or not, referring to an iron/adamantine alloy called glaucite. This dark gray metal is the material that constitutes the walls, floors, and ceilings of the strange ruins found throughout Numeria. Without more advanced technology, glaucite is extremely difficult to work with. Because the metal isn’t much better than steel for forging weapons or armor, and the process of extracting the adamantine from it is so expensive and time consuming that the resulting adamantine isn't worth the effort, Numerian scavengers have, by and large, left the walls and floors of the structures buried in the region untouched. It’s simply easier to scavenge smaller objects or work with normal iron or steel in the long run.
Glaucite has 30 hit points per inch of thickness (the same as steel) and hardness 15. It is half again as heavy as steel, and the difficulty of working with the material triples the object’s total cost to create.

"One of the doors in the wall was locked tight but the other was open. He had planned on exploring deeper beyond that door on his second expedition, but who knows if he actually made it that far?”

"Young lady, I do not believe that the township would store such tools, in fact the last set of them tools we acquired were tossed into the torch. However, I'd assume if you asked around the market place you'd most likely be able to find someone that would sell you some."

"Jack, with my years of experience with the Torch, the best I can do is guess. The nature of the fires are that they only generate heat one way, up. So I guess that it comes from a long narrow tube connected to the source of the flame. Also with the description of the caves, Khonnir never mentioned them being fire blasted."

Digging around her messy desk again, she pulls out a specific sheet and hands it to Jack. "This here is a writ that you can show to any of the merchants in town for a flat 20% discount on any gear you need to purchase," with a short pause and a sigh,"I wish I could offer a greater discount than that, but that's the best I can do."

"It looks like you've already made arrangements with Val. Finally, the entrance to the caves is flooded. You'll need to swim a bit to get to the caves. Joram Kyte has agreed to cast water breathing on any group to aid in entering the caves - free of charge, of course. You can find him at the temple of Brigh or up at Crowfeather Palace when you're ready to go."

"Anything else I can do for you?"

Allen looks up at Raven, "I don't have a rope or lantern, I have some candles..." He looks a bit sheepish, "You see, ropes are so bulky and heavy, and I'm so small."

His eyes widen when the dwarf mentions swimming, "I hope I don't become too much of a burden on this venture...I am not a very good swimmer. If it's not too far, or difficult, I'm sure Desna will grant her favor...but if it's too far, I might need help."

Councilwoman Freddert, is there anybody here who sells things that could be useful for destroying robots? I'm fairly certain that we're going to run into some down there if there is such a high concentration of glaucite."

Analise then turns to everybody else. "I really hope that Val's dad isn't dead. However, like Councilwoman Freddert said... We must prepare for the worst. We should at least try to find Khonnir's body and bring it back with us. At least we have a scroll of resurrection. Anyways, I'm going to go and talk with Val after getting some supplies. Hopefully, having some lessons with her will help calm her down."

The members of the Star Warriors, spend a little over an hour to prepare for their first foray into the caves, then they headed up to talk to Joram Kyte and get Water Breathing cast on everyone but Rywokit. He explained that the spell will last for about 4 hours on each of you. He leaves to work on the new contamination problem the town is facing, since the townsfolk have been dumping their sewage into the lake since the torch is out.

You see the dried footsteps of a lot of humanoids heading into the little spring, the water gives off a bad smell, but it is not instantly toxic as most of you know.

Moving things along. If you wanted to buy something, hit me up in discussion. Lazur made bullets, but give yourself 20% off since the materials would been cheaper with the writ provided by Dolga.

Rumor for everyone:

During your prep hour, you'd heard several more complaints of recurring and exceeding painful headaches being felt by many townsfolk. The rumors indicate that normal remedies don't seem to relieve the pains.

Even if I'm posting before others, Rywy will move in last.

Rywy doesn't really need to swim much, from my impression of this thing. He should be able to just "crawl" along the the sides of the rocks, like a kid at the pool, allowing him to easily move through the water and to the other side. His darkvision should also allow him to see well.

As the weight of Jack's tower shield and armor begins to drag you all down, Rywokit finds himself bobbing on the surface for a few moments, before enough water soaks into him that he begins to sink. Luckily he is attached to the rope so is eventually dragged under with everyone else. About 20 feet down, you spot the opening where a tunnel seems to lead under the bank.

It appears that this is where most of the water that fills the pond comes from. There is a minor struggle as you fight against the current to move along the tunnel. After several minutes, you manage to break the surface, under the hill. The little cave you find yourself in is without light. Through this ordeal Rywokit is dragged along as his natural bouancy throws off his balance.

Raven takes a moment to check her own equipment, and fits an arrow to her crossbow before falling into the middle of the group. She looks around with a general air of interest.

Round 1
Roll20 Battle Map
Dampness hangs in the air of this cave, condensing into heavy moisture on the slick, stone walls. The calm, dark waters wind around to the east up north, along a stony, soot-scarred beach. A five-foot-high ledge sporting several stalagmites rises to the east, beyond which a low-ceilinged cave beckons.

After you have dried off and checked your equipment, Jack takes the lead. Looking over his shoulder Locke notices first, but within seconds you all hear the scraping of many tiny legs scurrying through some large cracks in the cave walls. You can also see a light coming from the tiny openings getting brighter and brighter.

Another moment passes and 3 house cat sized beetles, with a dull brown color brightened by two glowing green-yellow spots on there carapace, come skittering out of the cave straight for you.

Jack takes a five foot step to his right, bringing his shield up to bear against the beetles.

"Ah," Raven says, blinking once. "Most intriguing. Gratifying, even, to observe interesting local wildlife at this early stage, as it suggests this area is not too polluted to support life. If possible, please leave one specimen mostly intact so I may conduct some research? It might be interesting to determine whether these are natural specimens or mutations of some sort, you see. The specimen would have to be dead, of course, as these appear to be carnivorous specimens, which are known for being unreasonable in the face of scientific investigation.
Note the phosphorescent patches, which indicate these creatures probably live their whole lives in lightless environs, obliging them to generate their own illumination as an aid to travel and probably to attract prey to them. These creatures may have been drawn in by our own lights! The question whether they acted on hunger or the desire to mate suggests itself for consideration...
Recommend we limit ourselves to more mundane weaponry at this engagement, as challenges deeper inside the labyrinth may require magical or otherwise exotic solutions."

Even while she prattles on, Raven takes aim at one of the beetles, fires, and fits a new arrow in the groove.

My connection is really bad lately, so I can't see the map. I basically shoot the closest beetle and reloads.

Knowledge (nature) to identify the beetles: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10. Ranged attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12 for 1d8 ⇒ 7 damage.

Knowledge Nature DC 10:

Fire Beetle
They have luminescent spots that glow even after death, shedding light in a ten foot radius. They are mindless vermin and are rather easy to kill.

none (identifies as nominally male) Wyrwood Arcanist 1 | AC: 14, T: 12, FF: 13 | HP: 16/16 | Fort: +0, Reflex: +1, Will: +2 | CMB: -1, CMD: 10 | Init: +1 | Perception: +0 | Sense Motive: +0 |

"<R-r-run: p-pun> f-f-Freeze, vermin!" Rywokit says, as he attempts to cast a spell.

Ray of Frost against any creature wounded, but not dead by the time it's Rywokit's turn. If there is none, he goes for the one with the green dot (nevermind, Jack is moving to attack that one), as that's the only one that's not currently covered, and will be able to move behind Jack once he's in position to attack the green-dotted one.

Concentration: 1d20 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 1 + 3 = 24
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17

EDIT: Woah! Wicket throws down when it's time for action! That's a heck'a concentration check!

EDIT 2: Knowledge (nature): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7, max DC 10
EDIT 3: He neither knows nor cares, it seems.

Making a mental note that a ranged weapon should be on his to buy list the next time he had spare coin, Locke moves to the beetle directly in front of him putting himself to the left of Jack and swings his short sword in an arc attempting to cleave the beetle in half.

Beetle slash!: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15 which will do Shortsword Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 if successful.
