GM Tyranius |
Barrel draws his longsword in an attempt to bring it down on the large centipede though his room for movement is hampered and he misses the slithering beast.
Lovec lets loose an arrow. The arrow clatters against the stones as he is unable to find a decent shot past Barral. No precise shot so also need a -4 for shooting into melee which misses the AC
@Jaren- You are too far away for a melee attack. Where did you wish to move to on the map?
Round 1

Jaren Morgenstern |
I'd have to change my turn to a double move, straight to the left. I guess save my actual attack for turn two. Didn't notice that a combat map was up. My bad.
GM Tyranius |
Jasmine slowly moves forward looking for additional enemies all about.
Riggs fires a small globule of acid into the rubble near Barral as Jaren rushes forward.
The giant centipedes bite at Barral and Jaren.
bite vs Barral AC 18: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 +poison Fort save DC 13 1/round for 6 rounds; 1d3 dex damage; cure 1 save
Bite vs Jaren AC 16: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
The red centipede's sharp pincers dig deep into Barral's leg.

Barral de Gauzignan |
Round 2 HP 6; Dex 9; AC 17; Long Sword
Fortitude DC13: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 for Dex Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Barral stoically endures the poison coursing through his veins and rallies for another attack ...
Long Sword: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 for Slashing: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Seriously ... what is up with these rolls :-(
Jaren Morgenstern |
I didn't want to end movement completely adjacent, I'm a reach melee character, so I would have liked to have been at least ten feet away forcing them to move to hit me, or I take a five foot step to hit them. As it is, now I have to take a five foot step back to try to draw them to the rest of the group. Ah well. Guess I should have been more specific. One of the many downsides of phone posting. (And I'm still working out the kinks with Google slides and my iPhone. For some reason it moves the map layer instead of the token when I try to move Jaren myself. )
Jaren steps back, speaks a word of arcane power, and then lashes forward with his long spear!
Attack, Arcane Strike: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Jasmine Almandine |
Maps not working for me because I don't think I moved and its hard to see what character I am. Am I in melee range (I don't imagine that they were more than 60 feet away) or am I not?
Lovec |
@Jasmine: Your icon is about 45 feet from the melee.
Lovec moves up to engage the centipedes. Getting a firm grip on his Lucerne hammer, he takes a huge swing.
Power Attack, Lucerne Hammer: 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 1 = 19
Damage: 1d12 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 2 = 13
GM Tyranius |
@Jaren- I adjusted your position.
@Jasmine- The map is set as a google slide so that you would be able to adjust it from your phone. The map is a larger one so you will need to zoom in the map to see you icons. If you continue to have issues I can switch it Google drawings.
The poison courses through Barral's veins giving him a heavy bout of lethargy. His arms are barely able to lift his longsword against the centipede.
Riggs continues to blindly hurl acid all about the room.
Jaren steps back and skewers the blue centipede with his spear while Lovec smashes the remaining centipede with his hammer. Gore spatters all about the rubble.
@Barral-Please roll the remaining 5 rounds of your poison saves / dex damage
Combat Over
Barral (6/13; -3 dex; 5/6 rounds remaining)
Jasmine
Riggs
Jaren
Lovec
Barral de Gauzignan |
Fortitude: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 for Dex Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
Fortitude: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 for Dex Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
So ... looks like 2 more points of dex damage and AC 16 now
"I don't suppose that I may prevail upon someone for a cure? I was more injured than I expected for such an encounter."
Barral de Gauzignan |
"Well then, I place my full trust in Irori ... from a safe distance of course." Barral adds that last bit as he swaps out his long short for his bow.
GM Tyranius |
Looking at the only door in the room to the south it seems to be locked.
GM Tyranius |
Lovec's key seems to fit the door perfectly. The door opens with the sound of grinding metal.
Numerous jail cells line these abandoned corridors. Each of their solid iron doors hangs ajar, and includes both a peephole at eye level, covered with a piece of sliding metal, and a smaller slot for food and water at floor level.
Barral: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Jaren: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Jasmine: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Lovec: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Riggs: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Looking about the corridor everyone but Lovec notices that there are a pair of secret doors leading south. Marked with green squares. The doors were once much better disguised but decay has left them poorly hidden.
Riggs Parrett |
Assuming Lovec tells the others, Riggs inquires "So, should we check the secret doors first? I don't think the doors would be secret unless they held important information."
GM Tyranius |
Opening the secret door reveals even more abandoned jail cells. As Jaren approaches the center of the southern jail cell As shown on the map he hears a a ragged voice call out.
Oh gods, kind faces! Aroden bless you, noble souls! I ain't seen the jailer in ages, I think they forgot about us! We ain't eaten in days and the water's all but gone- My cousins're both sick. I swear we'd give back the boar if we could, but we ate it, starving as we was. We didn't even know it was the baron's lands, didn't know we was poachin'! I beg you, we're all gonna die in here! Kindness, noble souls, we've suffered awful! Good Baron Sarvo wills it.
GM Tyranius |
The man listens to Riggs wide-eyed. Water! Food! Good Baron Sarvo wills it! The man's hand weakly reaches out.
Barral de Gauzignan |
"Does it strike anyone as strange that the Baron would use the wizard's tower as his dungeon?"
GM Tyranius |
It has been days! Water! Food!
Riggs Parrett |
I assume this dude is still in a cell? If so...
Riggs pulls out a ration of cheese and hard bread and slides it through through the cell to the prisoner. "Eat that, then answer my questions."
GM Tyranius |
Thank you, you are so kind. The man grasps the cheese and hard bread as he moves back into the shadows, out of sight into the room.
Looking closer at he door Riggs notices that the door is unlocked. Has it always been unlocked?
Jaren Morgenstern |
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Knowledge History: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Jaren pulls the others away from the cell and whispers
Baron Sarvo was a Belhaim lord who rebelled against the crown back in 4500 AR and was the last Canteclure to rule the town. He can't possibly have ordered them imprisoned....
Barral de Gauzignan |
"Something is definitely not right here."
Barral will 'Detect Evil' to ensure that at least is not the problem ...
Lovec |
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
"I don't think we're dealing with a living person here. Look, he's slightly transparent. You can see the seams in the brick work through his body. I think we're dealing with a spirit of some sort."
GM Tyranius |
As Riggs calls out once again he is met by silence in the dark cell.
Jasmine Almandine |
Jasmine shivers slightly. "This place gives me the creeps, first someone is there, and then they are not. I agree that a spirit is the most likely explaination, but this entire thing still scares me"
Riggs Parrett |
"I don't see we can let the thing out until we know more. I say we press on, then come back for them later. I know that seems harsh, but I'm not sure what else to do."
GM Tyranius |
Leaving the prisoner in his unlocked cell the group leaves by the second secret door to scout out the rest of the tower.
Within moments you reach a door to the west past all of the cells that seems to be stuck.
Barral de Gauzignan |
"I mislike this place the more I dwell within it. Let's move out and get this over with."
GM Tyranius |
Lovec and Jaren hardly notice the door being jammed as they slam it open.
There can be little doubt what this chamber once served. The dank room stores an ancient rack, a fanciful brazen bull, an iron maiden, a cauldron, iron chairs with sharp edges and cruel protuberances, and a wooden table upon which sit various implements of torture. A bronze plaque affixed to the western wall depicts a crowing rooster above crossed spears. Underneath the spear, a short phrase is inscribed.
The phrase emblazoned is written in Common and reads Confession Cleanses the Soul- Pain Clarifies the Mind.
The bronze plaque displays the Canteclure family crest and motto.
Jaren I need a DC 15 Will save
As the group looks up again there is a dark raven perched on top of the plaque and it begins to speak.
Greetings, fine citizens of our glorious Empire! So good to have visitors, though I fear I have no refreshments to offer. I assume you are here for the treasure. Well I'd be happy to assist, provided that you give me what I require! It has been so long since I was able to ply my trade. I require only that each of you shed your life's blood in this room- Simply take a seat in one of my lovely chairs.
Jasmine Almandine |
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
How high / far away is the plaque? Can i just walk over to the bird and smack it silly?
Barral de Gauzignan |
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
"And how exactly will you help?'
Lovec |
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
"Wait, what is this treasure you speak of? And what exactly is your trade? I wasn't aware that ravens had much of a trade, aside from stealing shiny objects and scaring peasants.
Besides, we were sent in here to figure out why the tower collapsed. What do you know about that?"
Wild Empathy: 1d20 ⇒ 7 Works like Diplomacy for animals. Assuming this is actually a raven.
GM Tyranius |
The Raven and Plaque are on the western wall. I marked the Raven on the map
How can I help. I can tell you how to reach the treasure of course. Treasure for resting your weary bones in a chair seems fair.
