"What say you also ask it to open for you?" he suggests.

If that doesn't work, he tries holding hands with others to see if that will let them through.

Lem steps away from the portal and one by one it attunes to each in the group. Though it takes a bit of guessing and more slamming into the door to figure out quite who it attuned to. as the group slowly makes it through the strange portal.

Good first choice as the holding hands would have been bad. :). The axe you found is a +2 Adamantine Battleaxe.

Just past the smaller room filled with meathooks is A strangely shaped cabin stretches forward, but its dimensions are difficult to make out due to its alien features. Odd, man-sized cubicles seem to be stacked into the bulkheads themselves throughout the room, but whether sleeping berths, holding cells, or simply shelving is unclear. Their true purpose is further masked by the growths of ghostlike plant life that hang throughout the room. Like thick tendrils of ivy and great curling leaves, these colorless tangles and shoots mat the walls, twist upon the deck, and dangle in curtains from the overhead, eerily shifting in and out of phase as they protrude through solid surfaces and each other alike. It is as
if sections of them are wholly present and other parts are mere ghost reflections of the strange plant life. The result is a wraithlike maze of otherworldly growths and tangles.

Movement through this tangle is reduced by 10 ft. (to a minimum of 5 ft.) and all creatures have cover from anything more than 5 feet away.

Milo examines the plants in the room as they shift between planes. From what he can tell it looks to be some sort of a creeping vine that is overtaking the chamber. Peering a bit closer Milo's eyes go wide with fright as he comes face to face with a creature. One by one the room begins to fill with flame red humanoids that appear to be a strange mix of insect and reptile. They each have four arms and twitching, fanged mandibles.

DC 16 Knowledge Planes:
These creatures are Xill. Xills are the scourge of the Ethereal Plane, conquering everything in their paths with only one purpose: to perpetuate their race at the expense of others. All xills are female and capable of fertilizing their own eggs, but require living hosts to incubate these eggs, which they inject into paralyzed victims by means of a grotesque ovipositor normally kept retracted behind their mandibles. Evil and alien, the plane-shifting xills possess impressive intelligence and a totalitarian, militaristic culture all their own. Though they see most other life forms as incubators, they particularly prize phase spiders for this purpose.

Before the outsiders have time to react Jhalan spins around and trips two of them to the ground. Swinging his fauchard overhead he slams it into the purple outsider's chest, breaking a couple of her bones.

Green and Purple would have stood up and just been able to do their first attack so hp and grapples are updated. So only attacks of opportunity from Jhalan for them standing which should be one left.

Artian quickly breaks free of the outsider's pitiful grasp. Save your Liberating Command as the creatures would not have grabbed him due to the AoO's.

Milo releases a devastating spell that fills the small chamber. Fire races across the ceiling, walls and floor but never quite seems to reach the party. It is difficult to tell exactly how much devastation Milo's spell caused until the smoke clears.

Jaysin leaps away and fires a single arrow at the closest red faced Xill, as Milo has now recognized them. The arrow sticks right into one of the Xill's four arms.

Cornelius bends down near the halfling and mends all of the little bard's wounds. The Xill hisses at the paladin in guttural tones and clicks.

5-ft step to flank, then tripping madness. Bonuses include flanking, sneak attack, inspire courage +2. Dropping Combat Expertise this round since it doesn't seem likely that green might attack me (if her survives at all).

Trip: 1d20 + 17 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 17 + 2 + 2 = 37 If successful, target provokes AoOs, including (but not limited to) mine:
AoO, +1 Adamantine Fauchard: 1d20 + 14 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 14 + 2 + 2 = 191d10 + 8 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 2 + (3, 6) = 25

Iterative+1 Adamantine Fauchard: 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 9 + 2 + 2 = 291d10 + 8 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 2 + (4, 3) = 21

If the trip lands (I'm hopefuly it will), Artian, Lem and Cornelius can make an AoO against green.

GM, if Artian kills green before I act, I'll take my 5-ft step to arrive between Milo and Artian and do the same action otherwise, but aimed at yellow. In that cast, please don't take into account the flanking bonus, as well as the 2d6 sneak attack damage.

Artian is only able to land a single momentary blow with his Nodachi. Though it is enough as the Nodaci amputates the Xill's arm that has ahold of Lem, releasing the halfling and returning the yellow Xill to the ethereal plane.

Jhalan uses his fauchard with grace and skill once again as he trips the green xill. As the creature is prone he rakes the hooked end across the Xill's chest. Raising it quickly once again he slits the creatures throat.

Milo releases a small wave of force missiles into the only remaining Xill. The missiles also seem to bypass the Xill's natural resistance to magic.

"Bleedin' bludgers!" Milo exclaims with an angry snarl, as he goes over and kicks the nearest xill body in the head. "Prigs was tryin' ta cooper us!"

"Glimmed 'em proper!" He adds, with a wicked smirk.

He starts to look around the strange rooms with the others, but before long, the constant annoyance of having to crawl over and under the strange vines raises his hackles once more.

He finally breaks into a long string of orcish curses, and just stops near one of the Xill to examine it while waiting for the others to find anything of note elsewhere.

The group all decides to touch the console all at once. In an instant they are all teleported on an even lower deck of the ship. The ship’s hold is a vast, split-level compartment with a stair accessing the raised forward portion. The teleportation leaves your stomachs feeling queasy for a few moments as everything tries to realign itself.

The narrow stairwell opens out into the ship’s main cargo hold, a massive split-level affair with the upper portion ten feet above accessed by a wide stair. The entire area looks like a giant botanical garden. A massive plant, milky-white and translucent, grows atop the upper hold area and curls about the entire chamber with a forest of fronds, tendrils, and clinging vines. The shapes of multi-armed humanoids can be seen moving about its thick growth of vines and tendrils that appear to grow into the very bulkheads. A number of strangely shaped flowers of deep violet bloom among this tangle, and at the top of the hold stairs, a great gnarled root crown stands like the trunk of a hoary old tree, a crease in its side opened wide like a dragon’s maw. Behind it stretches a winding taproot that disappears toward the bow of the ship, as large around as a wagon. Clearly discenrable within this taproot are the huddled forms of unmoving humanoids.

The roots and tendrils within the hold itself are all corporeal and create light undergrowth throughout the room (movement costs two squares and increases Tumble and Move Silently DCs by 2) that provides concealment to all within.

In the center of the room is the mass of the ancient plant like creature who's vines take up the entirety of the chamber. Crouching behind the root crown of the vines is another small xill that looks to be cultivating the plant and using it as cover. [ooc]20% miss chance
