Thaddeus Silverhorn |
"Can any of you disable traps? If not we could march him to the statue and see what happens..."
Does pushing Carson onto them count?
Thaddeus looks sideways at the elf, flourishing his thieves tools. "I've already showed you..." he says, jerking a thumb back the way they came. "It shouldn't be a problem if it comes up again."
GM Tyranius |
"Can any of you disable traps? If not we could march him to the statue and see what happens..."
This is the statue Carson already set off grabbing the feather.
Yes...That is our tunnel.....The creature was a hairless humanoid. It almost seemed to lurch on back-bent doglike legs. It's mouth was the worst part though. It seemed to be flanked by tiny arms with three fingered hands.
Please just let me go. I need to get out of here. The treasure is all yours. I am done with it.
Mors Buolgun |
”You show us this thing’s door. Then you can leave.”
More looks over at Thaddeus, ”Hairless. Dog-like. Terrifying to look at …” he breaks into a grin, back-handing the tiefling’s chest, ”Sounds like them twins back in Augustana, no?” He laughs at his own joke for a few moments before winding down, ”aaaaaaah … good times. But seriously, that sound like anythin’ to you?”
Time for some knowledge rolls, people. Let’s see if that description helps us out any.
More only has Religion and Local.
Knowledge: Religion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9; +3 if Local is appropriate
As he thinks, he slides the long blade from his back-sheath as he looks at the Tengu, ”Which door you say this ugly mother is in?”
Let's go kill us a monster. :D
I'd suggest we throw open the door, give Kurzan a chance to soften it with a bomb, then Zerika and Mors can move in first. Then the rest can fill in as the space and situation dictates. Sound good?
GM Tyranius |
It would be a Knowledge Dungeoneering Check
It is one of the doors to the west. Let me go please I have told you everything! The Tengu seems very shaken.
Thaddeus Silverhorn |
"Let you go?" Thaddeus asks in a conspiratorial tone. "But didn't you say there was that creature? Surely you don't wish to face that again. No, much better to wait here, I think. Still..." The tiefling shrugs, implying the tengu's future will have little impact on him, either way.
Zerika the Immortal |
"I make you and friend safe in here. You make him not die."
If the others follow Zerika out of the room, she uses 4 of the iron spikes from her pack and her hammer to thoroughly trap the two tengu inside.
Thaddeus Silverhorn |
Oh, that's my cue!
Knowledge (Dungeoneering): 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 7 + (6) = 14
Carson Williams |
@Thaddeus: But I may bounce back and be even stronger! Of course, I'd rather not test that on every door/statue...
"Typically, I'd be a "let it go" kinda guy, but it would be safer for us to keep you here for the time being. If there are other strange things here, it would be bad for you to face them undefended or to run and possibly bring it to us and cause problems for myself or my allies.". Carson hands the tengu some rations. "That should keep you going for a few days, until we get out and let the Pharasmin know of your crimes; you still gotta pay for that you know!"
After that, he follows Zerika out as she seals the door shut.
GM Tyranius |
The group throws a few rations into the room as they hurriedly slam the door shut, sealing the Tengu's within.
There is clawing and screaming at the door for some time but it eventually calms to a sobbing silence.
Where to now?
Zerika the Immortal |
"We went Left, now we go Right."
Zerika tries the door directly across from the Tengu's room, pausing to allow Thaddeus to inspect the door if he insists. It is almost like she is learning something. . .
Thaddeus Silverhorn |
"But what about those?" Thaddeus asks, indicating the corridor to the north. "We're already here, after all."
Am I interpreting that correctly? 6 doors in the hallway north of us?
Thaddeus Silverhorn |
Oooohhh....
Moving up the hallway directly across from where they found the Tengus, Thaddeus pauses before the first door on the east side. Kneeling down, he examines it for any traps, before attempting to open it.

Mors nods appreciatively when Zerika spikes the tengu door closed, then he lumbers after Thaddeus, taking up a position behind the tiefling as he works on the door.
He watches their ominously-quiet surroundings suspiciously, bastard sword in-hand.
Just keeping an eye out while Thad does his thing on the door.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Also, I updated map positions for Thad, Zerika, and Mors based on recent posts and my understanding of player's intentions for their character's actions. Feel free to edit them as you guy see fit (though Mors would like to remain at the opposing door in case something tries to come out of it while we're focusing on Thad's door).
GM Tyranius |
Thaddeus does not see any traps and in response cracks open the door. Inside is a large circle of tarnished silver powder, surrounded by arcane symbols in the center of the room. The center of the circle is empty.

"It's probably a safe assumption that it would be the creature the Tengu spoke of." Eying the circle, he adds. "I can't tell if it was focused inward, or outward. I think it just as likely the summoner stood in the circle, and broke it once he or she left.
Thaddeus Silverhorn |
Thaddeus nods, moving to the door across the hall with Mors.

Sorry forgot these spoilers. They have not impact on the gameplay for the rooms investigated so far but are nice info. The tiered basically means that you must successfully complete the a spoiler to try at the b spoiler if that makes sense.

The group finds no traps and Zerika opens the door. Brightly painted carvings along the walls of this room vividly depict mighty dragons in flight over shining cities, while below winged angels kneel and serve human masters. Peacock feather motifs dominate throughout the chamber, and a faint, pleasant perfume drifts through the air. Several humans lie supine atop biers draped in rich cloth. If they are dead, the bodies are perfectly preserved and have the appearance of relaxed sleepers, showing no signs of corruption or decay.

Thaddeus taps a clawed finger against his lips. "And the room with the binding circle symbolized the sin of sloth."
Mors Buolgun |
”Greed and sloth?” Mors looks back in the general directions of the other rooms, a dumb/confused look on his face. ”Most religious folk I know don’t celebrate those.” He looks back at this room with its depictions of human power and beautifully-maintained corpses. ”So what’s this one for?”
Let’s see if the others can fish out those good rolls to get us some more information on this current room. If we get nothing more, I’m good to move on … there doesn’t seem to be anything related to our actual assignment in here. Nor does there seem to be anything we can loot. :)

Zerika makes the first pass without paying much attenention, but begins paying more attention as the search goes on. After the first room, she begins casting guidance on the main investigators of the group before they enter each room.

"Oh! Illusion magic. That why room fake! Make sense now."

Oh, then using my Kn(Local) roll from above...
Thaddeus blinks at Zerika's words. "Did it? Xavorax, as in the hidden Calbourn city below the Asylum Stone?"
Thaddeus Silverhorn |
Are we not checking the other rooms to the north?
GM Tyranius |
Just let me know which room :)
Mors Buolgun |
At mention of illusion, Mors scowls at everything that seems to occupy the lush room. As the teammates begin to file out, he takes a step towards the nearest opulent object and tentatively pokes it out of curiosity.
With one last look at the strange room, he hustles out to catch up … just in time to see Zerika headed back the way they came. ”Hey! Zerika!” He hikes his thumb back over his shoulder (towards the unexplored doors in the hall), ”How ‘bout we keep movin’ forward?”
He then puts words to action, lumbering northward down the hall and pausing at the first door on his left, waiting for Thaddeus to do his thing.
Center-left door in the hallway. Mors’s position is updated on the map.

"I agree Mors!", Carson cheerily following the large half-orc. "Wonder if I can hear anything...", he puts his ear to the door, focusing on if he can hear anything on the other side.

Carson listens to the door and hears a small bit of shuffling in the room as Thaddeus clicks the lock on the door and swings it open.
Shockingly graphic depictions of orgies with all manner of creatures decorate the walls of this chamber. Five humanoid skeletons lie in state on biers—though the bodies appear human, their skulls are those of some monstrous creature. A pile of bloody bones and feathers is all that is left of a recently killed creature.
A human sized creature stands at the back of the room. It has a perfectly formed and anatomically correct female human torso, but
any resemblances end there. Its arms are unnaturally long and end in three wickedly curved talons. Its lower jaw splits into two monstrous halves lined with sharp teeth, below bulging red eyes.

Stepping into the threshhold, the tiefling levels his longspear at the abominable beastie, and prepares for the worst. "And Mors - tell them to hurry."
