Out on the dance floor, Dash tries to follow the Kings outside, but his dancing hampers the effort. "Save some tender spots for me!" He calls after them.

Once the Kings are gone he looks toward the door to the coat check room.

I'm sure they can handle themselves.

He moonwalks backwards toward the DJ's table to secure some tasty beats for later.

Dash watches as the thugs drag the man out of the club and slowly makes his way over to the DJ, checking out all of the new songs like:

Who let the Droids out!
Walking on the Sun
Point of No Return

Even behind her cover Kcectic catches the leader with a sharp crack of electricity that causes her arm to jerk and ocular implant to twitch.

Non-Lethal Damage is slightly different as well.

Non-Lethal Damage:

NONLETHAL DAMAGE
Nonlethal damage represents harm that can knock you out instead
of killing you. Some weapons deal only nonlethal damage, while
others can be set to deal nonlethal damage when desired. You
can deal lethal damage with a nonlethal weapon and vice versa.

Dealing Nonlethal Damage
Most attacks that deal nonlethal damage work like any other
attacks, and they deal damage to your Stamina Points or Hit
Points as normal. However, when nonlethal damage would
reduce you to 0 or fewer Hit Points, you are reduced to exactly
0 HP and fall unconscious, but you are stable instead of dying.

Vetch lays down a bit of covering fire as he falls prone to avoid getting struck.

Abe can't seem to get a clear firing lane as Ferani ducks behind her desk. Though Messalina's erratic circuitry pays off as a stray bolt strikes Ferani in her leg. "Piss that hurts." She spits.

Soryn moves in on the woman, pinning her into the corner. The cycle resets itself as the light once again draws into Soryn, dimming slightly. He raises his dark energy staff at Ferani and brings it crashing down.

Vetch kips up and leaps over the desk, stabilizing Ferani, but leaving her unconscious as he quickly searches the adjoining rooms.

The storage room to the south has numerous bar supplies worth around 1500 credits if sold or fenced as trade goods, though they are quite bulky, and it would likely take several trips to completely empty the storeroom (any surviving Downside Kings would not look kindly on such wholesale theft from the gang, however).

Ferani carries:

  • Estex Suit I
  • Club
  • Tactical Semi-Auto Pistol w/ 30 rounds
  • Datapad (Tier 1 Computer)
  • Keycard
  • Credstick (500 credits)

Vrokilayo carries:

  • Troop Ceremonial Plate
  • Assault Hammer
  • Azimuth artillery laser with 2 batteries (20 charges each)
  • Frag Grenade I
  • Shock Grenade I
  • Credstick (200 credits)

To the northeast is a secured storeroom with a sophisticated locking mechanism. Vetch waves the keycard found on Ferani through the pad and the door unlocks. The Downside Kings keep their stolen loot and
illegal profits in the secure room here. Inside are:

  • Holoskin
  • Autotarget Rifle with 5 magazines of longarm rounds (10 cartridges each)
  • Incendiary Grenades I (2)
  • Vial with a clear blue liquid (2)
Detect Magic and DC 17 Mysticism:

This is exactly the evidence that Chiskisk was looking for.

Meanwhile Dash continues to rummage through the DJ's playlist on the computers as he continues to dance. No one in the club even aware of the mayhem that ensued so close as the bass drowns out the sounds of battle.

Repair Drone:
Was looking up a few things on repairing the drone. Seems there are a couple of spells. Mending and Make Whole. There is also a second level mechanic trick

Repair Drone (Ex)
D When you spend 10 minutes to repair your drone, you repair 25% of its maximum Hit Points instead of 10%. You must have a drone to learn this trick.

This tells me that you can repair the drone for 10% each day though it is mentioned absolutely no where else in the CRB.

With the mass of confusion and superb distraction led by Dash and Kcectic the group is able to leave the club undisturbed. Outside the Downside Kings are nowhere to be found as they must have taken the man somewhere to rough up.

With Chiskisk's personal Comm connection in your computer. The connection is set and Chiskisk's familiar voice pours through your comm unit's. "Did you find something useful?"

"F*$% yeah we did!" Dash laughs over the comm. "Abe, tell him what you found."

Having left the club and settled into a side street elsewhere, Dash is busy multitasking as the group communicates with Chiskisk. One hand taps his leg to the beat of one of his new tunes while the other finesses damaged parts back into place in Abe's drone with a mending spell.

Looks like drones are considered constructs, so I'm limited to using mending once per day on it.
Mending: 1d4 ⇒ 4

Mending spell information:

MENDING
School transmutation
Casting Time 10 minutes
Range 10 ft.
Targets one object of up to 1 bulk
Duration instantaneous
Saving Throw Will negates (harmless, object); Spell Resistance
yes (harmless, object)
This spell repairs damaged objects and constructs, restoring
1d4 Hit Points. If the object has the broken condition, this
condition is removed if the object is restored to at least half
its original Hit Points. All of the pieces of an object must be
present for this spell to function. A construct can benefit from
this spell only once per day. Magic items can be repaired by
this spell, but magic items that are destroyed don’t have their
magic abilities restored. This spell doesn’t reverse effects
that warp or otherwise transmute items, but it can still repair
damage dealt to such items.

Repairing HP:
In theory, we mystics can heal 10 hp damage/level once per day as well. It takes 10 minutes and doesn't seem to make a difference if it's normal/humanoid or toaster/appliance/droid/clank...so that could be an option as needed.

Drone Repair:
Yeah, I found the rule that said once per day I can spend 10 minutes to heal 10%, then I can do it along with any rest period in which I use Resolve for another 10% per rest. I can't find it now of course, but it's in there somewhere.

Everything I've read says the Mechanic with a droid has the 'ability tax' to get that 25% repair thing going just to keep the drone healthy. That said this party seems to have a lot of healing floating around so I dunno... I may put off the tax if mystics can indeed heal drones once a day as it seems.
- - -

As they clear the club, Abe suggests, "Follow me, I scouted some escape routes for just this situation." If followed, he leads the party along a quick series of turns and straightaways that lead far from the club quickly, and with a minimum of fuss.

When they're well clear, he tells the others what he found on the computer, "I found numerous files confirming many of the Downside Kings’ criminal activities - including several communications between Astral Extractions and the Downside Kings, ordering the gang to kill Duravor Kreel both as a message to the Hardscrabble Collective that the corporation means business and to keep the Starfinder Society from getting too curious about the Acreon and the Drift Rock."

"I suspect a little digging in the files may reveal even more when we have a chance to sit down and pour through it. But this seems to be what Chiskisk was looking for!"

When Chiskisk's voice comes over the comm and Dash introduces him, he repeats his story. "We'll come to you soon with the computer so you can see for yourself." he adds.

When Dash heals his Messalina of most of her injuries, he's thankful. "Wow, thanks Dash. That's a trick I always wanted to learn for myself. Would you teach it to me? I dabble in magic a little here and there." he smiles, still reveling in their recent victory.

You simply envision the molecular structure of the universal polymer base, employ an electromagnetic wave to redirect alpha particles to nudge errant electrons back into alignment. Yup with so many it may. I just went down a long tangent on how the heck do you repair a drone. They could have made that part a little clearer under the mechanic class.

With Messalina slightly repaired the group heads back up to the Loerspire and are led straight to Chickisk's office as they seem to be expecting you. Chiskisk pours over the the information on the computer. "This is good. They thank you for risking your lives for finding justice for Duravor." Chiskisk taps a few commands into their computer. "This evidence regarding the Downside Kings and Kreel's murder will be turned over to the station officials. Leave any ramifications of Astral Extractions’ possible criminal enterprises to Absalom Station’s legal system. The company has a powerful presence on the station, and They don't want you or the Starfinder Society to risk a battle that neither has much chance of winning."

The Shirren sets the computer down as their voice rings in your head once again. "On a more positive note. Those that wish to join, welcome to the Starfinder Society. They are looking forward to the discoveries you will make and the knowledge that they will share with the Society in the future. I don't currently have anymore jobs at this time but they are interested and somewhat troubled by the revelation that Astral Extractions is attempting to keep the Starfinders away from the Acreon and the Drift Rock. Keep your eyes and ears (or antennae) open for any further news about the contentious ship and its mysterious cargo that might be of interest to the Society." Their antennae twitches in excitement and glee.

When the group is back on the street he suggests, ”Let’s head to Vetch and my place. It’s small, but it’s private at least. We can divvy up the items there, and cash out whatever’s left."

I’ve got everything listed on the treasure sheet. If there’s something you want, just say so and I’ll put your name next to it. If no one else wants it, it’s yours. If two people want the same thing, sort it out in character. We’ll sell the remaining items for 10% and I’ll do a divvy to the group after the spreadsheet does the math.

Also, we have two healing serums, who wants to carry them? I figure they're group items. I already have one.

"Thank you!" He broadcasts happily, with a sense of accomplishment. "If you require anyone to pilot your vessels, please think of me first. It is my hope to travel through space to place known and unknown. I look forward to my career with the Starfinders!"

"It will be nice to rest after this as well. Who knows what our next assignment will be." He pauses briefly, chittering quietly. "I know Starfinders work with many different people, but I hope to occasionally receive assignments with all of you."

I think the Holoskin should maybe go to Dash? Personality wise he seems most likely to have a need for disguises. :)

"What's it pay?" Dash asks when Chickisk offers a place in the Starfinders, wondering if looting idiots that mess with Starfinders is a fringe benefit or standard commission. He's going to join regardless, because one needs friends in a place like Absalom, and Dash has always sucked at making friends. Because friends like to ask you to do stupid things, like move furniture. Or bodies.

After...

"Can't believe you just rolled those gangbangers and stole their sh!t. Boy, are they going to be p!ssed! Should we warn the 21'ers that they might come looking for payback?"

Dash would love to take the holoskin. He might be the most likely to want a disguise, and (previous situation aside) the least likely to pull one off.

Returning the room, Vetch watches Abe try to 'heal' his robot, doing 'mechanical' things. He shakes his head, then smiles warmly. He gently moves Abe away from his own contraption, giving himself room to work.

"Let me show you how this is done, Son," Vetch says, beginning to bind his will to the highest science: magic. "Let me handle this...I have a knack for it." Vetch begins to chant and mediate and will and prod.

After about 10 minutes, Messina is healed 10 hp. Vetch limps back with his hands on his hips, admiring his work. "See? Good as new." Vetch claps Abe on the back and goes back to sorting the loot.

Vetch will join Abe in selling the gear as it is a chance to see more of Absalom Station. He doesn't need anything (as far as he knows) and will do some window shopping. He realizes how expensive everything is here and knows there isn't much value in trade.

He also sees this as a chance to learn more about the people, learning as he goes.

Vetch reads the invitation and smiles. He had not expected anything like this...but maybe this was common course within the Starfinder Society. He doesn't know...but he wants to learn.

"Does it say when the meeting is? Or where? Should we go now?" Vetch asks a bunch of questions that may or may not be clear from the invite. "And these are the undeads, yes? We should mind our soulful bodies around them."

Vetch chitters excitedly, happy to arrange the meeting when others are ready.

"Hey, that's a pretty neat trick there Vetch, thanks!" Abe says with gusto. Magic is powerful stuff! I need to know more of it. he thinks.

The group spends several days searching through more shops than a Ysoki has children before finding what you need. Some better than others, though the best bazaar on Absalom Station seems to be the Freemarket.

AbadarCorp has a responsibility to make money for its shareholders, yet it also has a holy duty to foster competition and create robust markets. One of the ways it squares this circle on Absalom Station is by sponsoring the Freemarkets, a riotous bazaar of entrepreneurs selling wares out of cooperative storefronts, temporary stalls, and vehicles. While station security and AbadarCorp’s priests attempt to police the area and make sure business stays relatively legal, the Freemarkets are a great place to buy and sell nearly anything, from
used adventuring gear and alien artifacts to custom code, magic items, and refurbished robots.

As the invitations arrive Abe and Vetch decide to set course for the meeting with the undead diplomat.

The meeting takes place at the Eoxian embassy in Absalom Station’s wealthy Parkside neighborhood in the Eye. The embassy is normally restricted to Eoxian citizens and foreigners with official business, but your invitations gives you authorization to enter.

The Eoxian embassy has been decorated in a style reminiscent of traditional Eoxian architecture—black marble and bone-pale limestone, vaulted ceilings, sepulchral furnishings, and disconcertingly organic architectural details. Inside, a pair of undead skeletal attendants lead you through the complex to a spare but well-appointed office that feels something like the inside of an ancient mausoleum.

The office is that of Eox’s ambassador to Absalom Station Gevalarsk Nor (Link) (male elebrian necrovite). Nor’s elongated cranium marks him as an elebrian, a native of Eox, and he is clearly undead—his skeletal countenance displays no scrap of flesh, and an eerie light burns in his otherwise empty eye sockets. A necrovite is a spellcaster who has used its powerful magic to achieve immortality in the form of eternal undeath, storing its consciousness and soul in a technomagical relic called an electroencephalon.

"Welcome. I'm glad to could make it so soon." A skeletal hand motions to the chairs lining the desk.

“Thank you for agreeing to meet with me. I’m certain you’re aware of the recent interest in the prospecting ship Acreon and the asteroid being referred to as the ‘Drift Rock,’ and I believe you’re also acquainted with the dispute between Astral Extractions and the Hardscrabble Collective over both the ship and the asteroid. Both parties are currently awaiting legal arbitration, but the wheels of justice often turn quite slowly. As a result, I have offered my services as a mediator in hopes of finding a solution that is equitable to both factions."

“The first step in this, of course, is learning the specifics of the opposing claims. Reports of your recent endeavors in dealing with some of Absalom Station’s most notorious gangs have led me to believe that you might be useful in this undertaking as well. You’re new to the station, you seem to possess a wide range of skills and abilities, and you certainly appear capable. In short, you’re perfectly positioned as a neutral third party that could cut through all of the red tape surrounding this issue and get to the heart of the matter."

The undead eyes glow with no emotion, though they seem to bore into your souls. “I would like you to go to the Acreon, find out precisely what happened to its crew, and ascertain the value of its asteroid cargo, as well as determine whether this Drift Rock is truly as ‘mysterious’ as the media claims.”

Vetch tries to avoid staring too much at the necrovite, as strange a creature as he's ever seen up close. He's seen them before, of course, in his long life, but never up close and with words and discussion.

"It's true, we are neutral and have no personal interests in this," Vetch agrees obsequiously.

"We shall leave today?" Vetch asks, looking at his companions before turning back to the ambassador.

"Will you be providing passes to us? Arrange safe transport to the Acreon?"

"This seems highly irregular." Kcectic says, his head tilted to the side curiously. "That we would meet with a person so important, so early in our careers as Starfinders." He has heard of these undead creatures but regards the Eoxians as no more or less strange than any other humanoid he has encountered. Their bonelike bodies, reminiscent of his own exoskeleton, evoke no strange emotions in him and he fails to understand others revulsion to the species.

"I believe myself to be neutral, but is it possible that Astral Extractions may believe us hostile?" He questions. "Are you sure our employment will not be seen as antagonistic?"

He shuffles uncomfortably as the rush of decision making floods his senses, his mandibles open and shut rapidly for a few seconds while he considers the offer. "Do we get something that makes us official?" Dash asks, eyes glued to his brand new upgraded comm unit, a Berry iComm 8000s Plus. His holoskin currently projects the form of a traditional Castrovelian funeral robe of white silk, contrasting starkly against the black marble of the embassy. "I am authorized to provide 600 credits for your efforts. I am afraid I can do no more."

“There is one additional detail that I’d like to ask your help with,” Nor says, steepling his bony fingers. “Among its other cargo, the Acreon was carrying a package destined for the embassy. Of course, with the ship being quarantined, the package has been undeliverable. I’ve been eagerly awaiting its arrival, and I’d consider it a personal favor if you could find the package and bring it to me when you return to the station. It’s clearly marked, so I don’t imagine it will be too difficult to find.”

Nor digs into his desk and pulls forth a small bone box. Opening it he reveals a white orb that once activated floats into the air. With a simple command the metallic orb flits forth with a blue screen, staying near Dash.

"I assure you I have worked everything out with the Security Forces for your passage." He points a bone white finger to the floating orb. "This is an observation robot that will accompany you and record your observations aboard the Acreon. I would like an objective record to provide the sparing parties with to help in the mediation efforts. You will not need to do anything with the bot itself. It will simply follow and observe."

Nor leans far on his desk. "I recommend you investigate the Acreon first to see if you can find any traces of the ship's crew before you begin exploring the Drift Rock."

Nox holds his bony palms up. "You are not inclined to speak with them unless you wish to side with one in one way or another. If you wish to remain neutral then you don't even have to speak with them." Nox says staying the middle ground. "A lashunta named Ms. Joss can be found in the Bluerise Towers. She represents the Astral Extractions. As for the Hardscrabble Collective, Otal Serissi, can usually be found aboard his ship, the Dust Runner out in the Armada."

Abe listens uneasily to the undead standing before him. He’d heard of such things of course, but this was his first in-person meeting. He couldn’t help but stare, and he misses a lot of the discussion as his mind drifts into all sorts of dark corners. The others seem OK with it, so he nods along - agreeing to help.

”We’ll do what we can, sir, thanks for the opportunity.” he thanks Nor. He turns to the group, ”I think we should interview these two - Joss and Otal. Can’t hurt, and we might learn something from them that helps prepare us. I’m sure you want the information quickly Nor but, and correct me if I’m wrong, there’s not a particular rush - correct?”

Pushing himself from his chair, the android makes for the door.

"Astral Extractions has offices in the station, so let's knock on their door first."

The ambassador turns his skeletal head to Dash. "I will turn it off when it returns as I will need to be impartial to this arrangement."

***

Overall the group decides to meet with the Astral Extractions at their local offices. The Absalom Station government is decidedly laissez-faire toward the businesses operating on the station, yet even this minimal oversight is too much for some corporations. In Bluerise Tower, various corporations have arranged for nearly complete sovereignty over the tower levels they own, with even the Stewards having a difficult time obtaining permission to enter. Exactly why these corporations require so much privacy is anyone’s guess, but official inquiries have always shown tower residents to be living in a self-described anarchocapitalist utopia. If any tenants disagree, their complaints have never made it past their employers’ private security.

Though as Ambassador Nox has arranged the meeting you are allowed right in and escorted to a clean and tidy office. A Lashunta in a tailored suit sits behind a wooden desk as the nameplate Ms. Joss lies emblazoned across the front.

"Thank you for agreeing to meet with us on such short notice. Would any of you like any refreshments before we begin?" A younger woman comes in with a tray of various colored liquids from exotic juices to plain water. Ms. Joss gets straight to business as if every moment is precious and planned to her. "The purpose of this meeting is to give you a better sense of Astral Extractions’ corporate philosophy and how that informs the company’s business dealings." Flicking on a screen shows a very charted and in depth presentation that highlights Astral Extractions’ efforts in discovering, developing, and managing much-needed natural resources from across the galaxy and selling them in the Pact Worlds. It’s clear that the
presentation does not represent the whole truth (it is marketing material for investors and the public, after all), but there’s nothing outright false about the claims made.

"Having established the noble services that Astral Extractions provides for companies and citizens throughout the Pact Worlds, we set a contract with the Hardscrabble Collective—namely, that the Acreon was hired to prospect for unclaimed, unexploited mineral resources on behalf of Astral Extractions, which would then hold all rights and claims to those discoveries." She calmly overlaps her hands on the desk. "We simply want what the contract gives us rights to. The Acreon found the Drift Rock—an unclaimed, unexploited mineral resource, as defined in the contract—while working for Astral Extractions, so rights to the asteroid belong to the company."

The presentation comes to a close. "Please carefully consider the merits of Astral Extractions’ claim and keep open minds while investigating the ship and asteroid. Astral Extractions will, of course, accept the results of Ambassador Nor’s mediation." The Lashunta smiles "You know Astral Extractions is always interested in hiring competent freelancers for a variety of tasks, You yourselves might find lucrative employment opportunities in the future if their findings support Astral Extractions’ claims."

Abe chuckles to himself as Ms. Joss lays out her companies bona fides. He nearly laughs out loud when she offers them all jobs. I’ve had to scrabble for work my whole life, and one week as a Starfinder has me a hot commodity. Me!

”Thank you for your presentation Ms. Joss. I think we have a good idea of what the Astral Extractions company wants out of this arrangement, and your claim certainly seems valid on its face.”

Well, I’m not sure what we’ve learned here other than they’re willing to bribe us, a little, to grease the wheels - and who can blame them. There’s likely a lot of wealth on that rock.

GM Tyr...can we see the contract or should we assume that the details are mostly correct here? Do we need to put some points into interplanetary law and socioeconomic dynamics of asteroid mining/gnome slavery to figure out the details of each claim?
