Abe works on his computer while they wait and putters about the ship rigging the fire extinguisher, which he gives to Dash when he's done.

He smiles at Vetch as they talk about his new pistol. When Nor appears, he's surprised, thinking they were going to him. He coughs nervously when Vetch suggests their 'fate-worse-than-death' which is Nor's daily life.

He adds, "We're planning to go back in the morning for further investigation, better equipped. We'll descend onto the rock and see if we can find what's left of the crew. Might be some clues there, but initially it looks like they were overwhelmed by these creatures. You'll get a good look on your camera - they were quite nasty!"

”That’s about it. Your observer robot was there for it all. I suggest downloading season 1 of Rock Wars, pulling up a coffin, and binge watching it. Don’t want to spoil anything, but the part with the goblin and his grenade is f@$%ing hilarious.”

Though he thinks it a funny coincidence that Nor is arbitrating rights to a ship carrying cargo for his undead people as well as undead-spawning space cats, Dash figures it’s best to reserve stating the obvious - that Nor has a complete conflict of interest and may likely have personal interest in the rock itself.

Ambassador Nor smiles at Vetch, or at least he believes it to be a smile. "A fate worse than death indeed." His attention snaps back to reality as it drifted back to days before his transformation. They seemed so long ago they are but a blur in his subconscious anymore.

"Those creatures do sound nasty indeed. Congratulations on your success of the Acreon though. My package is in good hands and as promised you were compensated."

Abe speaks of looking over the camera. "I will have to take a look when I get back to the office." His hollow voice rings with little emotion though he seems to jitter with anticipation and excitement at the prospect.

Stepping back into the shadow the undead ambassador disappears as the shadows seem to envelop him. "Take more care on the rock and come back alive if possible." His voice echoes out as he vanishes in a flash.

Abe spends part of the evening working on his computer before finally putting it to the side and settling in to bed. He's careful not to stay up over-late and keep Vetch up too!

Early in the morning he readies himself for the day ahead, and considers switching out Messalina's gun for the new one, but decides to wait and make sure the Akatas are effected by it first.

Feeling a little better (though I think you said it's two saves to clear) he gathers up his gear, shifts things around in his pack a little, and heads back out to the ship, presumably with Vetch, his roommate.

Once there, he takes some time to examine the damage to the ship. "Do you think we should fix this? It's pretty minor." (remember the ship has a couple points of damage) "I think it's OK for now, but any more and we'll want to dock again and perform proper repairs. I don't mind returning it a little dinged up, but damaged - that's another story."

As the others join him, he climbs aboard and takes the science officer chair and makes ready to depart.

(Vetch, you're doing the engineering spot for now - right? Happy to switch if you prefer.)

"If we are attacked again I will try to keep a larger difference." Kcectic says somewhat unconvincingly. "I find that unexpected maneuvers usually keep the enemy unable to fire, but the ship that attacked us had a competent pilot. Hopefully it is the last time we need to fire on another ship though."

Rested, uninfected and ready to go, Kcectic follows onto the ship and preps for take off again, this time charting a course toward the drift rock instead.

You are correct it is 2 consecutive saves.

With Vetch's serum Abe feels much better come morning and a good night's rest as the disease must have passed on it's own accord.

Dash is a little bit of a different story as small nanites skitter across the surface of his wires and internal circuitry eliminating the bad foreign cells. Though Dash is cured he still looks like he went through hell after an entire night at the Pretentious Vesk, A hipster dive bar, known for it's absurd clientele.

The crew is once again ready to leave though they are missing Soryn as he doesn't show up for the vessel's departure right away.

Soryn will be leaving us as his plate is quite full at the moment, though hopefully that changes in the future and you will always be welcome back. Will give it a bit for some RP on both ends.

Vetch stifles a guffaw at Dash’s reply. He’s correct, of course, that there wasn’t much to see there.

He thought that Dash would be the first one lost, to a horde of disco prostitutes or something.

Vetch has no objections, but also is not thrilled by the choice. However, Dash can’t possibly be a worse captain than he is gunner and so there might be some overall improvement in the ship’s total function when Vetch has the guns pointed at enemies rather than used to measure one’s droidhood.

With the crew settled, and one man down, Kcectic fires up the thrusters to leave this over-populated space station. Having found no traces of the Acreon’s crew aboard the derelict ship, your next goal seems to be to explore the mysterious asteroid accompanying the ship.

The Drift Rock seems to be nothing more than a small, nondescript asteroid. A prior scan (Link) of the rock revealed little more than rock and metal.

While studying the Drift Rock from afar you catch the sight of a rocky overhang concealing a cave entrance that seems to lead inside the asteroid.

There look to be several acceptable places to land the Hippocampus on the asteroid's rocky surface.

"This is a big rock. Bigger than I imagined it would be."

Opening the hatch Abe's suit pressurizes as there is no atmosphere what so ever on the asteroid. Not only that but the tunnel leading in is pitch black. Disembarking is the most unnerving out of all of the new elements as there is no gravity whatsoever. Abe;s feet lift lightly off of the ground, though the natural walls and floor are rough enough to provide plenty of handholds. The tunnel itself seems 15 feet high upon closer inspection.

Please familiarize yourself with CRB Pg 402 zero gravity.

PG 402 CRB Zero Gravity:

Movement in zero gravity (also referred to as zero-g) is not the same as flight. Controlled movement is difficult without some form of propulsion, and creatures without something to push off from often find themselves floating aimlessly. A creature in a zero-gravity environment can’t take move actions to move its speed, crawl, or take a guarded step. If a creature is adjacent to or in the same square as an object (including a wall, floor, or ceiling) or another creature one size category smaller than itself or larger, it can take a move action to push off that object or creature, moving at half its land speed in a direction of its choosing (as appropriate); if that object or creature is movable, it begins moving in the opposite direction at that same speed.

Moving in Zero-G:

Moving in Zero-G: A creature that moves in a given direction continues to move in that direction at the same speed at the beginning of its turn each round (without taking any action); it must move the full distance unless it is able to change its motion by latching on to an object or creature, pushing off in a new direction, or creating thrust of some kind (all of which are considered move actions). If a creature runs into a solid object during its movement, it must succeed at a DC 20 Acrobatics or Athletics check to safely stop its movement; failure means that creature gains the off-kilter condition (see page 276). If a creature runs into another creature during its movement, both creatures must each attempt a DC 20 Acrobatics or Athletics check to avoid gaining the off-kilter condition. A creature anchored to a solid object (such as by the boot clamps available with most armor) receives a +4 bonus to this check. An off-kilter creature in a zerogravity environment can steady itself as a move action that requires a surface to grab on to or some method of propulsion; alternatively, that creature can throw a single item weighing at least 4 bulk (for Medium creatures; 2 bulk for Small creatures) to reorient itself and remove the off kilter condition.

If provided with sufficient handholds, a creature with a climb speed can move along a wall at full speed, as can any creature that succeeds at a DC 20 Acrobatics or Athletics check. Creatures that fly via methods that require an atmosphere, such as wings or turbofans, can’t use their fly speeds in a vacuum; once they reenter an atmosphere, they can recover and get their bearings within 1d4 rounds, after which they can fly normally. Magical flight and methods of flight that provide their own thrust, such as maneuvering jets, are not affected. A character in a zero-gravity environment can lift and carry 10 times her normal amount.

Weapons in Zero-G:

Weapons: Thrown weapons have their range increments multiplied by 10 in zero-g. In addition, all ranged weapons no longer have a maximum number of range increments—their wielders simply continue to accrue penalties the farther away the target is.

Vetch floats forward finding no tracks or anything of the sort as he silently floats through the cavern. Pulling himself forward a bit more the tunnel opens up into a 30 foot tall cavern. A dead humanoid body floats in this cavern! The corpse is that of a human male. It’s still wearing an estex suit with a patch that reads “ACREON,” identifying it as a member of the mining ship’s crew.

DC 15 Medicine:
This man is not infected with the Akata Void Death. In fact, this crew member was lucky—he died of his wounds shortly after the crew retreated here, and so avoided a horrifying transformation into a void zombie.

Staying in the rear Dash and Abe see several trails of dust fall from the tunnel's ceiling as the asteroid rumbles slightly. ”THE GAPBORN CLANK FORGOT TO TURN OFF THE DAMN AUTOPILOT!!” Vetch continues to verbally retch. ”I don’t suppose you remember where the nav-drive was pointed when you left the keys in the ignition, Gap-Clank?” Vetch turns back to see if the ship is returning or not.

Vetch takes a few moments to catch is breath.

”Ah gapdamn this. Let’s move on. Maybe we’ll find a way to contact Absalom and find a way to get someone else out here.”

Dash floats silently near the cave, letting Vetch throw his tantrum. Organic emotions were often illogical, foolish, and just boring. And with how the ysoki was going on and on he was sure Vetch was going to run short on air, so he was saving up his own supply to offer later.

For the price of a big fat apology.

When Vetch finally returns to the task at hand, Dash bows and waves a hand like a courtier making way for the queen.

Vetch goes back to searching the floating corpse. The dead crew member is wearing an estex suit I with a backup generator armor upgrade and is holding an empty survival flare gun.

Gathering the equipment the Ysoki moves well ahead of everyone as he continues to explore further within the pitch black chambers.

Four tunnels exit this cavern to the north, south, east, and west. Strangely, however, while the south and west passages are hewn rock, the north and east passages are finished and lined with some sort of polished, metallic plating on the walls, floors, and ceiling.

DC 15 Engineering or Life Science:
The wall panels are some sort of ceramic-metallic plating that is as strong and durable as adamantine alloy, but is itself a substance unknown to Pact Worlds material science.

Another similar body floats loosely in the space filling the cavern. The prospector is wearing a space suit, but the lower half of its helmet is shattered.

Vetch floats over to the walls to point out things to the less smart and observant, like most androids.

"See here? These wall panels are some sort of ceramic-metallic plating that is as strong and durable as adamantine alloy, but is itself a substance unknown to Pact Worlds material science," Vetch explains to those who might have a digital, rather and chemistric, brain function. "These materials are not known to us, I don't think. These might have been born in the gap...and are new to us. They might be valuable."

Abe moves up to back Vetch's play and collect the gear they've found (or at least stack it by the entrance as on the ship).

Engineering: 10 + 9 = 19 (taking 10)

He looks over the little guys shoulder at the new materials, "Wow." and is eager to get a closer look when they can.

For now he hangs back and gives Vetch room to look around. "We should be wary, if the akatas killed any of these prospectors, we could be facing zombies as well."

Life Science: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

Dash notes the strange plating with little amazement. He wasn’t going to waste air trying to expand Vetch’s elementary school level education. Something else was more interesting to him.

”I think this might be about more than just mining rights. Someone f@$%ing built something here out of one of the strongest materials known. Are they protecting something or imprisoning it?”

He could feel the observer robot hovering over his shoulder, and he was beginning to think Nor’s role as mediator was no coincidence. It might be time for it to fall prey to an accident.

Abe’s reminder about zombies makes him curious, and he floats over to help loot the bodies and investigate their injuries.

Medicine to see how they died?: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

GM: Dash rolled well on identifying the akatas before. Does that extend to the zombies they create? Anything special or unusual about them? Any resistances?

Looks like PC tokens might not be accurately placed on the map. Those constructed wall plates are the walls in those passages leading out from the second corpse, right?

Correct, which I assumed the pair were identifying from a short distance.

Looking over the initial floating corpse, Dash spins it on it's side and finds significant wounds leading him to believe that the man had his throat ripped out by an Akata.

Dash knows a small bit about how an Akata's disease works. First it infests the host with tiny, microscopic larvae. Those who perish from void death become void zombies. A void zombie looks like a walking rotting corpse, often with a bloated blue-gray “tongue”—the fanged tail of the parasitic larva inside—dangling from its broken skull where its lower jaw once was. After a humanoid host dies from void death, the strongest of the akata larvae infesting the corpse worms its way to the host’s brain and undergoes a swift gestation within hours. This accelerated growth causes the feeler-covered head of the oversized, tadpole-shaped parasite to latch on to the base of its victim’s brain and reenergize the dying organ, taking total control and turning the host into a void zombie. Akata larvae require a few short weeks to gestate before undergoing the transformation into adult akatas. A void zombie bearing an akata

larva ready to emerge seeks out a secluded area and vomits the akata’s offspring into a shallow hole or crevice. The void zombie then “dies,” toppling over the disgorged larva. A scant few hours later, a full-grown akata emerges, usually taking the rotting corpse of its former host as its first meal.

As Abe and Vetch are busy looking at the walls the corpse floating around the second room slowly spins in the air. As it does a bloated gray tongue flops out of the cracked and broken helmet. As a fresh meal passes very close by it begins to twitch, though no sound is heard in the vacuum of space as the undead's tongue slowly reaches out for Abe.

Damage (Piercing): 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 + Blood Drain (2 Str damage)

The tongue latches onto Abe's arm and quickly begins to drain his blood supply from his body, which only seems to reinvigorate the undead within the spacesuit.

Dash also seems to recall that Void Zombie's are also susceptible to salt water as they are breeding an Akata within their bodies.

Kcectic: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Zombie: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

Kcectic floats in the room as he is able to walk the void of space, getting as close to the undead as he cares to try.

With no handholds or nothing to propel itself off of currently the mindless undead spins about, continuing to drain Abe's blood as the tongue bulges with fresh blood, feeding the parasite within.

Thanks Dash, I was intentionally trying to hang back so I’d not be the one on the chopping block again, but went ahead and moved up at your insistence. Never listen to the captain, that’s my new motto. :)

Abe staggers, nearly killed outright by the undead thing surprising the party. It’s all he can do to try and move away… Assuming I’m not grappled, Abe pushes off against the ground trying to flee from the undead. He pushes toward the wall and tries to grab on.

Athletics: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 2 = 18 (str drain, boot clamps) vs DC 20 to hang on or become ‘off kilter’

He hits the wall harder then he expected and, in part due to his reduced strength and bad launch, he spins and cannot immediately right himself.

Meanwhile, he directs Messalina to open fire! (I always assumed his drone had jets for propulsion, but let me know if that’s not the case.)

You are not grappled. I would assume the jets as well.

Round 1, Init 17

Vetch doesn't like seeing Abe being torn apart (that the clank's job to be the meat), and reacts as strongly as he can to help his roommate.

Casting Magic SpaceMissile as full round.
