It’s been nearly a month since Venture- Captain Drandle Dreng, a decrepit yet well-respected Pathfinder, instructed you to meet him dockside in Absalom. On arrival, Dreng herded you on to a Korvosa-bound merchant vessel and gave you a series of quick, stern instructions.

“One of my good friends, a merchant in the Varisian outcast’s haven known as Kaer Maga, sent me a very strange letter, which I need you to investigate. The merchant—his name is Horis Collgardie—tells me that the residents of Kaer Maga are very upset about the Society’s plan to build a lodge in their city and even further upset that the agents we sent are making trouble, stirring up the delicate balance of power that exists in the so-called City of Strangers. The trouble is, not the Decemvirate or any venture-captain I can find gave the okay to build a lodge there. We know it would be folly to do so—at least right now—and so this idea that Collgardie has that the Society is there and doing just that is worrisome. In a few weeks time, you’ll be in Korvosa. From there, book passage on a river ship for Harse, then travel overland to the road’s end at the cliffs below Kaer Maga—the so-called Twisted Door. There you must pay the Duskwardens to escort you through the Halflight Path to reach Kaer Maga. Once inside the city, find Collgardie and find out what he’s talking about. If there are Pathfinders in the city founding a lodge, tell them I order them to stop at once. If this is some kind of ruse, get to the bottom of it and do what you can to keep our Society’s good name in Kaer Maga—we may not be completely welcome there, but neither are we unwelcome. Let’s keep it that way. Any questions?”

I'll hold off on progression until SodiumTelluride and Greenclaw post in with their PC's. This is a good time for introductions and the such anyways.

A slovenly, wretched man saunters into the room where his eyes look over the other Pathfinders already assembled. His messy blonde hair hangs over his ears though his dark hazel eyes miss nothing. He is dressed simply, wearing studded leather and is well armed with many small blades, a dagger along with a brace of knives.

"Name's Yorad. Pleasure to meetcha! Looks like a fun trek ahead for us all here!"

"Sarina. And this here is Fluffy."

Sarina cuts a lithe figure and with her pale skin and blonde hair she no doubt was beautiful. Before the scars anyway. Her face and hands show clear signs of professional torture.

She is wearing a mithral chain shirt and is armed with a scimitar and a Just realized I need to buy her a ranged weapon... light crossbow.

Fluffy is a small leopard with what looks like a small metal plate tied to it's back.

"What can you tell us about Kaer Maga?"

A small, lightly-armored gnome makes his way down to the docks. His clothing is clearly made for travel, but looks as though it might be brand new. A morningstar rests at his belt, and a crossbow can be seen at his back with his gear. A wide-brimmed hat sits atop his head, which he sweeps off in a bow to the other Pathfinders.

"Afternoon! The name is Zildaastin Elderiosa Pembledrake. Most big folk just call me Zil. We gnomes do have such mouthfuls of names, don't we? You may consider me your humble provider of divine magics." (No holy symbol can be seen, however.)

A tall Shoanti man joins the discussion, followed by a muscular panther. The man is inked with a variety of tattoos that resemble the shape of a fang.

"Greetings. I am Mahalak Akrakai, a member of the Lyrune-Quah, and this is my companion, Mavenee."

The panther gives a low growl as she sits beside her master.

Savannah Kurgess strides down the docks proudly, steps long and confident. She has light brown skin, and wears her thick, wavy, black hair tied in a braid. She wears simple clothes, comfortable and colourful, which leave her strong arms and back exposed, showcasing her athletic physique and a massive tattoo upon her back of Kurgess' holy symbol--a flexed arm holding a broken chain.

"Good morning, team!" she exclaims enthusiastically as she encounters the others. "Good morning, Venture Captain Dreng! If I can just squish in... here." She finds a free patch of dock amongst the others, but out of the way of passing dockworkers and sailors. "There! Perfect!"

"I'm Savannah! Savannah Kurgess. It's great to see such a fit and eclectic team!" She offers her hand to everyone in a firm handshake, one at a time. "Nice to meet you! And you. And, oh, wow! And a panther. Can I pet him?"

During the briefing, Savannah stands with her hands clasped behind her back, legs shoulder length apart, and back straight. She listens carefully to Dreng's mission details, with a wide smile on her face.

"Sounds like quite a mystery!" Savannah exclaims. "I love a good challenge! Wonderful!"

"Where does your friend, Collgardie live?"

Mahalak smiles and nods at the panther. As if on cue, the panther leaps to her feet and strides towards Savannah with a friendly growl. "Looks like Mavenee likes you. She is very friendly, that one."

The next to arrive is a striking young woman, with pale blue skin and solid white eyes that somehow give her both a youthful appearance and yet the strange sense that she possesses wisdom and knowledge well beyond her years. She is dressed in scale armor and carries only light weapons.

"It is a pleasure to meet you all. I am Prakriti...or Riti if you prefer. Kaer Maga? That does sound exciting, and the Halflight Path? I have distant memories that I may have been there before, although not in this life."

Still putting finishing touches to the character sheet so I can load up her stats but wanted to jump in and post to not hold up the group.

"So did your friend tell you how many of these so-called Pathfinders there are? And what do you mean by stirring up trouble?"

Savannah smiles at the lovable panther and gives her a good scratch behind the ears.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Mavenee! Welcome to the team."

"What can you tell us about Kaer Maga?"

“It’s a city of outcasts in Varisia atop the Storval Rise, built inside the shadows of enormous walls that are said to have been built before even Thassilon existed.”

Venture Captain Drandle Dreng continues to explain as he folds his hands into his fuzzy robes. "Keep your head down and be smart. The balance of power in that city is fragile—upset it and you’re likely to die. Don’t go stomping about the place like it was a pharaoh’s tomb. Be cautious, be careful, and be courteous—even if the locals make fun of you for doing so. Oh, and the locals are likely not what you expect—you’ll see when you get there.”

"Where does your friend, Collgardie live?"

Dreng smiles as he taps his finger to the air as if to accentuate a point. “You’re adventurous Pathfinders—I’m sure with his name and a few loose coin, you’ll find him in no time.”

"So did your friend tell you how many of these so-called Pathfinders there are?

"No, he failed to elaborate I am afraid. See what you can find out while you are there."

Any other questions or purchases before you leave for the Halflight Path and Kaer Maga.

Savannah grins. "Well, I did say I loved a challenge."

"Ready team?" she asks enthusiastically.

Ready!

Sarina pets Fluffy, Hoping she isn't jealous over the attention Mavenee is getting.

"Subtle investigation is not a talent I posses. But waiting won't change that. We are ready."

Yorad makes a point NOT to pet either of the pets, but does give Fluffy a wink. Seeing the briefing come to a close he double-checks his supplies and gear making sure all was in place.

"I think I am ready to go here, so let's get moving!"

From the moment the sun rose this morning and the dizzying Twisted Door opened at the bottom of the Storval Rise, you, your companions, and a handful of traveling merchants have trudged slowly up the myriad stairs, tunnels, cliffside paths, and underground ruins that make up the famous Halflight Path. On either side of you march several gruff-looking men and women wearing brown-and-gray uniforms, the right breast bearing a badge with their symbol: a golden arch on a midnight blue background. These are the Duskwardens, and it’s their duty to see you safely up the Path to Kaer Maga, hours and hours of climbing above you.

A trip up the Halflight Path takes roughly 8 hours, especially with the merchants and traveling citizens that accompany you slowing them down.

About halfway through the climb, an enormous chunk of masonry, well constructed brickwork on the west side of the passage, collapses. From behind it boil dozens of yowling, barking, and yipping creatures carrying swords and snarling viciously—goblins. In a matter of a few quick moments, the goblins were among the merchants and citizens with the Duskwardens desperately trying to fend them off.

Just as you think to act, another chunk of masonry, this time from the ceiling, collapses and cuts you off from the rest of the traveling group. You find yourselves in a small passageway, cut off and under siege.

Mahalak is the only to gain his bearing and react quickly in the situation.

Mahalak quickly draws his longbow and warns everyone in the party.

"They were expecting us! Mavenee, protect everyone. Start with the red goblin."

He aims his longbow and makes two quick shots at the red goblin.

Meh. I'm guessing they both miss. Won't bother with the damage.

The panther strides towards the goblins and bites at the red goblin.

Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Dang those rolls. GM, I'm assuming you'll let me have Mavenee's actions after Mahalak's?

@Mahalak-Yup, that is the easiest route.

Mahalak and Mavanee leap into action, though the goblins are too chaotic and fast to catch them before they disappear back into the shadows.

The goblin in the rear holds a skeletal chicken body high in the air as he giggles. Covering his mouth he gives it a shakes. Giggles again and begins to incite a strange goblin ritual or spell.

Sarina will then move up to red trying to create a flank for Mavenee next turn. This provokes from red if it has combat reflexes. (AC 19)

During the weeks-long voyage, Zil makes a point of talking to each of his new allies at various times.

"I see you're the unhindered type," he says to Yorad, "unless I miss my guess. Not to worry, not to worry. No judgements from me! Sometimes the best way to get things done is under the table, I know all about that. Not everyone's willing to admit it, but it's the truth."

"Sarina, isn't that a lovely name! And a lovely face to go with it. And your companion is magnificent, I must say. You look like you can handle yourself. That's good. I always defer to those who can handle themselves."

"Mahalak, isn't it? I envy you big folk. Even your companion is larger than I! Where did you find him? Her? Him? ...Well, lucky you to have been there! I can tell the two of you have quite a bond."

"So, you follow Kurgess, isn't that right?" he asks Savannah. 'The patron god of strength. My god values strength as well, and..." He looks at his own arm and chuckles. "Well I'm just glad that there's strength and there's strength, right? But you have my respect, and the respect of my fellows-in-faith. Oh, who I follow isn't important just now. I want to know more about you!"

"I don't believe I've ever encountered someone of your heritage before. I don't mean any offense, we're all much more than where we came from. But blood is still so very important, isn't it, and I must admit I'm intrigued. Your skin indicates that you're water-born, which would be lovely-- I'm something of a fire-mage myself. But that doesn't seem quite right either. Could you tell me more?"

Zildaastin whispers a short incantation over Sarina's sword, which erupts in flame. "Go get them!" he adds.

Casting sun metal, which adds 1d4 fire damage for 4 rounds. Casting first, move, touch weapon.

On the journey:

@ Sarina: "Oh, wow! And you have a leopard! A lot of cat lovers, hey? I've never been good with animals. Mind if I give her a scratch? Or will she give me one?" Savannah asks.

@Zildaastin: "I sure do, Zil! Can I call you Zil? I can call you Zildaastin, if you prefer." She claps him on the back. "The greatest strength can be found in the heart, my friend. You have my respect in turn."

"You want to know more about me? Well, it is good to share with ones team. Let me think... I was an orphan, which wasn't that bad, really. I lived on the streets, but I was lucky enough to go to bed full each night, and warm. I always loved those parades that the Kurgessian church puts on in Absalom, you know? I used to climb up and watch from the rooftops. Anyway, one day, one of the tournament organizers found me and offered to bring me to the church. He was also a cleric of Kurgess. I've lived there since. I compete in a lot of tournaments myself, now. And here I am." An orator, she is not...

"What about you?"

@ Everyone During the journey, Savannah gets up early every morning and tries to lead the group through team-building exercises, and invigorating workouts, starting with a good stretch, a morning prayer, and ending with a cool down and another prayer.

Savannah had walked through the ancient tunnels with enthusiasm. "What a great workout! This slant is great on the glutes and hamstrings!"

As the stones collapse, Savannah yells out, "Look out!" Unfortunately, she's too slow to otherwise react.

Sarina's face is heavily scarred. There isn't a forum avatar for that afaik. I'll assume you offer a different comment to her.

Sarina doesn't socialize much. Though she does open up a bit if you approach her. And no she won't talk about the scars.

"Fluffy is well behaved. You can scratch her behind the ears."

Every day when Fluffy isn't around she tosses a few rats overboard that were by her bedroll when she woke up.

Nope, I stand by it. You had initially described her as "with her pale skin and blonde hair she no doubt was beautiful. Before the scars anyway." Zil is going with that. If Sarina takes it as a lie and/or an insult, she's free to do so.

During the Journey:

@Zildaastin "Water born?" Riti smiles, but shakes her head. "No, I do not think so, although when or where I was first born, I do not truly know. I am a Samsaran, My current body was not actually 'born' as you would describe it, but rather simply appeared when my last one faded away. You see, this is not my first life, or at least not in the traditional sense. I have but only vague memories of my past incarnations, of which I feel there were many. It is these memories that give me my powers and much of my knowledge, however. But, you speak of blood. It may interest you that my blood is actually much like water in its nature, clear and fluid. You say you are a fire-mage? Does your blood burn with the heat of fire? That must be rather uncomfortable if that is the case!"

The battle:

Riti draws on some of these past memories, ones tinged with frustration or longing, and projects these from her eyes towards the nearest goblin, hoping to overwhelm it with the sheer strength of their despair. She then draws her morningstar, preparing for battle.

Spirit Memories: Gaze attack (DC14 WILL) at purple or sickened and staggered for 1 round. 5/6 uses remaining.

"Unhindered?" Yorad frowns for a moment before suddenly breaking into a grin, "Yeah, never looked at it like that before! Working on the docks is back-breaking work, long hours and little pay. Yet, it's gotta be done else no on gets fed, clothed, or can even enjoy the finder thing in life!"

Sarina and Fluffy moves into action, though neither can get past the goblin's chaotic defenses. Zildaastin whispers a small incantations as Sarina's blade glows white hot.

Prakriti gazes into the northern goblin's eyes.

The goblin smiles as he stares at Prakriti stupidly, little memories or goals run through its mind.

The goblins cheer and whoop as the charge in.

Yorad stabs the goblin to his right, seeking to gain a flanking position as quickly as possible. His blow is off balance and flies obove its head.

Here we go again...!

"Come on, team! Take them DOWN!" Savannah shouts. She pulls out her spear and thrusts it at the goblin in front of her (green)

Mahalak takes a step back to avoid the goblins blades and tries to shoot the yellow goblin to aid his panther.

"You're doing great Mavenee! Keep fighting that yellow goblin."

Mavenee locks down her target and unleashes a series of fangs and claws.

Claw 1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Claw 2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

Savannah draws her spear and stabs it at the goblin's. Though the goblin grans the end and begins dancing and jerking it around as he bites at Savannah's hands.

Yorad's assault doesn't seem to fair much better as he spins in a circle, trying to keep the goblin in sight.

Mahalak fires an arrow, that darts just past the goblin's shoulder. Mavenee roars as he locks down on the goblin. The large cat leaps onto the goblin and tears it's throat out from it's neck. A small spurt of blood squirts onto the stone.

The shaman's spell completes. Mahalak, Mavenee, Zildaastin , and Prakriti all feel a deep slumber come over them as their mind muddles.

@Mahalak, Mavenee, Zildaastin , and Prakriti- need a DC 12 Will Save or Sleep.

The shaman then reaches out to pet Fluffy.

Fluffy will have none of that and snips at the Goblin.

The panther straightens up as she tries to shake off the spell. The same couldn't be said for the hunter, however, as he falls to the ground snoring loudly.

This could get ugly if we all end up asleep. It's early in the game, but I'm going to use my shirt re-roll on this.

For a moment Prakriti feels as if she is going to succumb to the shaman's slumber spell but the oracle draws on the memories of one of her past lives, the faintest recollection of one of her previous incarnations fighting off sleep to stay up and tend to a sick animal back on their farm who needed their constant care.

She then gathers her strength and strikes out at the nearest goblin with her morningstar.

Here in goblin cave.
"That caster must be stopped."

As a swift action Sarina's skin grows some fine hair and her eyes begin to reflect what light exists. Animal Focus Tiger for +2 Dex. AC 20, Touch AC 15.

She will move away from the red goblin and into flank with the caster. This provokes from both.

She then attacks the caster.

Zildaastin starts to move, but is overwhelmed by fatigue and drops to the ground, asleep.

Both Makalak and Zildaastin fall to the ground and begin snoring. Sarina breaks away from the goblins and rushes the shaman.

Sarina and Fluffy tear the little preacher of Zargonel limb from limb as cries of pain echo through the cavern.

Prakriti stumbles and misses as the goblins leap at the advantage.

Sarina will move up to Zildaastin and wake him up.

With a grin she faces the two goblins in front of her.

"Kurgess smiles upon us! You will not win this fight!"

"Hey! 'S not time for your naps guys...and I don't remember seeing you at any of the union meetings!" Yorad exclaims as he proceeds to gang up on the goblin struck by Savannah.

Attack Orange Goblin, if it is down then switch to Green.
