The pair of adolescents gasp as HK mimics shooting his gun. One ducks down behind another, they seem to be genuinely scared of HK and glower at the android. Creeping closer they wipe across Lightfoot's stone display of the Pact Worlds, scattering the pebbles. The second adolescent grabs Lightfoot by the arm and begins dragging him towards the village as the first waves his hands in a 'come' motion.
Using the same method you can use diplomacy or bluff checks to continue speaking with them.
OMID |
"It might be wise for us to learn what we can from the locals. I say we go to with them. Though be careful."
Breq Torren |
Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Breq holds her hands out, in a welcoming stance. She points to the Starfinders, then to the village. Show us your home? Please?
Rozzicheep "Lightfoot"Bernnshaw |
"I believe they would like me to accompany them..". Lightfoot comments to his companions. He is somewhat sad as he sees the natives treat his model as other stones. Perhaps, they're rock-like nature may cause them to treat rocks differently, perhaps as waste?. The ysoki ponders.
Allowing himself to be drug along, Lightfoot maintains a friendly, if not somewhat nervous, smile.
GM Tyranius |
The pair tap their chest and smiles. Then taps Lightfoot's chest, though a little harder than probably used to as their skin is rock hard. "Fiend." One attempts to say.
More and more villagers leave their meager huts to look at the visitors with rapt attention. One of the teenagers points to the sky and makes a motion of a large fish swimming. They look a bit saddened but yet hopeful. Through a bit of pantomiming you begin to tell that they believe the Besmaran Whelp to be a reincarnation of one of their elders.
OMID |
OMID is trained in the study of people who are no longer living. Still he tries to utilize his skills to determine as much as he can of these folk. For instance, how do they feel about the starfinders running of their 'elder'.

Breq Torren |
Can we see any telescopes or space technology? Do we know how they know about our space battle?
Breq frowns when she realizes that they honor the Whelp. She looks at Lightfoot uncomfortably. Perhaps our peaceful captain was right...
1d20 ⇒ 8
Through some poor pantomiming, Breq tries to ask about the outpost. "Ulrikka. Do you know that word? Have there been other space visitors?"
HunterKiller 42-5 |
HK look at the locals thinking Unlogical thinking, how a rocky humanoid could be reincarned into some space creature.
The android stands still, saying nothing but ready if the inhabitants show signs of hostility.
GM Tyranius |
The inhabitants show no signs of hostility. Breq looks around, seeing no signs of telescopes or advanced space technology outside, though they doesn't mean there are not crude telescopes inside their huts.
"Ulrikka?" The pair look at each other confused and completely avoid answering anything concerning the outpost. The pair both shrug.
OMID tries to get a read on them. As far as the android can tell, they seem to be quite truthful, just mainly a curious race.
Rozzicheep "Lightfoot"Bernnshaw |
The pair tap their chest and smiles. Then taps Lightfoot's chest, though a little harder than probably used to as their skin is rock hard. "Fiend." One attempts to say.
I would prefer that they added an "r" in their choice of words, but it would seem that we are able to communicate amicably, Lightfoot notes quietly to himself.
As he realizes that the locals revered the space creature as an elder, the ysoki grows concerned, Do they mean us harm?
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
He also considers what he might know about such religious beliefs or practices involving reincarnation and elder worship, as well as any association between the two and monsters that consume starship energy.
Mysticism: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Breq Torren |
As the group follows the two locals to the village, Breq pulls up the surface scans of the planet and points out the location of the outpost, and then the location of the village. "We want to go here. In the middle of the rock storm. And we are here. With you." The android looks up, searching for understanding. "Have you been here? Can you help us get through the storm?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 7
GM Tyranius |
The teenagers marvel at the surface scan of the area. They poke at the screen and move it around as they stand slack jawed. As Breq points to the outpost their eyes go wide and they quickly begin shaking their heads no, waving their hands. The begin to make a whooshing noise with their mouths and shake their hands in pain.
The local warn you about the “haunted” outpost, which shoots fire at those that approach. There should be enough clues, even in mistranslations, that you realize the outpost is simply more technologically advanced than the village. The locals plead with you to not go near the site.
Rozzicheep "Lightfoot"Bernnshaw |
“Our directive from Guidance upon the embarkation of our mission is to retrieve as much information as possible about the outpost and its contents.” Lightfoot says in response to the androids statement. “It is obvious that the outpost is known to these natives and, further, that they have sufficient information in regard to it to give them apprehension with regard to its mention. By entering into peaceful dialogue with them--seeking their permission, so to speak--we will be better suited to obtaining whatever information they may possess and, to the end, be better equipped to meet our mission directives”, the ysoki pontificates. “Further, as a servant of the Dawnflower, I see it as my solemn duty to bring her light to those who presently walk in darkness.”
Turning his attention back toward the rocky natives, Lightfoot attempts to obtain more information about the outpost. "You and your fellow villagers appear to revere reincarnated spirits and speak of the outpost—the structure we have come here to explore—as being ‘haunted’. Is it that you believe that a malicious spirit inhabits the structure? Or is it simply the fact that the outpost is different, foreign to you and your ways of living?” Lightfoot inquires of the natives, trying to discern the reason why the mention of the outpost seems to elicit fear.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
“If your concern is for the well-being of my companions and I, should we travel there, then you need not fear. The light of the Dawnflower guides me and my companions are quite capable of defending themselves—even against spirits, new technologies, and other unknowns. I believe that each of us…” The ysoki points to his fellow Starfinders. “has faced, and overcome, threats of similar magnitude and severity as those I have listed.”
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (7) + 0 = 7
Ceserre |
Ceserre is truly out of her element here, flabbergasted by the difficulty of first contact with the new species. She does her best to keep up with the pantomiming, but has nothing to add to the conversation. She instead attempts to remain an non-hostile looking as possible, probably putting off the impression of being a very uncomfortably coiled spring. I hope we can get to the outpost soon... peaceful contact is not my specialty... she mutters under her breath to no one in particular.
GM Tyranius |
Lightfoot's pantomiming goes seriously wrong as the pair frown. They don't seem to want to continue discussing the haunted outpost any further. They shake their heads and begin to walk away.
Breq Torren |
Breq continues to follow them to the village. "Wait! Maybe we can help! "
Diplomacy : 1d20 ⇒ 19
GM Tyranius |
The pair stop and look back. Their shoulders seem to slump and they draw you in close. Grabbing a stick they draw in the dirt. A picture representing a village of people and another shape of the outpost with one person, likely an outcast. Flames come around the man and they draw an 'x' around the forbidden magic.
Breq Torren |
Breq's eyes widen. "Haunted outpost. Magical outcast. Reincarnated whelp. We may be into something big here... " She looks around at her companions in awe. Before the group leaves for the outpost, Breq works on the natives one last time. "The storm. Can you tell us anything about the storm? "
Diplomacy : 1d20 ⇒ 7
OMID |
"Ask if the site is holy or just feared as evil. He pulls out his laser. "Let them know we can help if it is evil."
Rozzicheep "Lightfoot"Bernnshaw |
"It appears that someone may have perished in a fire at the outpost. Perhaps, one of the locals? If so, could that be the local elder that they believe was reincarnated in the form of the whelp?" Lightfoot supposes.
The ysoki turns to the rock-folk. "Did one of your kind die?" He pauses, places his hands around his neck, let's his tongue slip from his mouth, rolls back his eyes, and gurgles as if he were in the middle of a death rattle, before regaining his composure and continuing.
"Was it in a fire at this place?" he inquires, pointing at the picture of the outpost.
Diplomacy (Aid Another): 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (7) + 0 = 7
GM Tyranius |
The pair of teenagers yelp in surprise at Lightfoot's pantomiming of a dead man and fire. They run away screaming in true fear.
Breq Torren |
Breq looks at Lightfoot and busts out laughing. "For a peacemaker, you are not well liked. " The android shakes her head, smiling. Silly breathers. She looks at the map again. "Well, I guess we should head towards the outpost. Traveling through that storm won't be fun, but I'm not sure if we have a choice. "
Rozzicheep "Lightfoot"Bernnshaw |

"Well, I guess we should head towards the outpost. Traveling through that storm won't be fun, but I'm not sure if we have a choice. "
Lightfoot sighs. "Unfortunately, within a galaxy of conflict, the dislike of peacemakers is not uncommon an occurrence. Nevertheless, the greater the resistance there is to peace, the greater the determination and efforts of all peacemakers must be."
OMID |
"Perhaps this was a misunderstanding. You were using a poor means of communication after all. In any case, I suggest we resume our mission. I would not want the natives to decide we are a danger to them."
GM Tyranius |
With the locals departing the group of Starfinders decide to head straight for the Outpost. According to the data and charts the distance is roughly 3 hours on foot, with the storm in between. Even attempting to wait out the storm you find that it seems to be stationary as boulders swirl within. Clearly some kind of ongoing phenomena that cannot be waited out.
Everyone needs to make 3 DC 10 Fort Saves. Each failure is 1d4 Damage.

Breq toughs her way through the storm, but gets hit by a large rock near the end.

Ceserre and Lightfoot are up.
GM Tyranius |
Swirling rocks and boulders batter at OMID and Breq as the group travels through the massive and unnatural storm. After roughly 3 hours a dilapidated circular buildings dots the landscape. A tumultuous storm rages all around, strong and fierce, without any sign of slowing down. A crumbling stone bridge crosses a broad gorge, offering a pathway directly into the heart of the turmoil.
The bridge is severely damaged and is in danger of collapsing. Though the Outpost and a clear eye of the storm looks to be just on the opposite side of the bridge. The gorge below spans down 20 feet full of jagged rocks.
How do you plan on crossing the Bridge? New map is posted.
The tempest is at its strongest here, near the eye of the storm. Every round, creatures in the area must succeed at a DC 10 Fortitude save or take 1 point of damage.

Acknowledging the accuracy of his nickname, Lightfoot attempts to race across the bridge, treading lightly, but swiftly. ""I shall endeavor to be of assistance to you on the other side." he calls out to HunterKiller as he races across.

Small rocks bash into the majority of the group as the storm seems to intensify.
Lightfoot Acrobatics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Lightfoot nimbly crosses the broken bridge without hardly causing a stone to shift.
Ceserre looks around and thinks witha small bit of engineering and their cabling that Breq has provided that shifting across the bridge shouldn't be too difficult. HK slowly begins to make his way across the bridge. Taking one step at a time carefully.
Someone make an engineering check for the cable. Crossing the bridge needs an Acrobatics check.
Need new Fort saves against the storm for Round 2. Lightfoot gains a +5 for being in the building.

@ GM - Terrain question? Is that a collapsed floor with a drop? If so, how deep is the drop?
Lightfoot moves forward, inspecting the building.
Single move action; second action will depend on terrain
GM Tyranius |
With a little bit of engineering OMID and HK are able to shore up and stabilize the bridge a bit better.
+2 to your Acrobatics to cross now.
The cable allows HK and Breq to cross the bridge with little issue as the group urges the rest across.
@Lightfoot- The drop is just difficult terrain. It isn't much of anything.

The group makes it safely across the bridge to the eye of the storm. With a moment to breath the group investigates the adjacent structure. A body lies still inside the remains of this decaying structure. Rubble pins the body’s feet to the ground. A hoarse sob resounds from the figure as the storm launches a piece of stone into its side. It twitches before going still once more, the rise and fall of its torso growing shallow with each breath. The body looks rock-like similar to those teenagers from the village you came across earlier.

However, the creature's unfamiliar physiology makes it difficult for Lightfoot to know where to begin.
