The shadows are indeed summoned, and Protection from Evil is repulsing them.
BUT! Communal Protection from Evil specifies that the spell must be subdivided in 1 minute increments, and Markolf cast it from a scroll. Which means he could only ward half the party.
GM error in player favor, so I'm not going to retcon. That said, I need Markolf to specify who he warded, so we can finish this properly.

The lead in Linslo's sling suddenly feels much weightier. That's both a curse and a blessing, because the bullets hit just as hard as they feel. His first shot undoes the shadow by Hack, and the next three do a number on the one threatening Senzo.
EDIT: Nym conjures a mighty spell to banish the last of the troublesome shadows. To his puzzlement, the spell fails to do much at all.
