Santiago gives a shrug of his own. "Lost a couple of bets, probably. You know where the racetrack is? It's just beyond the northwest corner of the Sook."
Tarri Millfurrough |
"Ol' Hugo ate a lo', but there was still plunny for everyone. Well, no' much in the way o' tarts, but there was fruit n' things." Tarri replies to Fenrik. She takes one of the yindleberry pies and sets it on the ground for Hugo, who begins hastily devouring it. Smiling, the halfling turns back to Santiago, "Thanks sir, those doggie races sound like good fun."

Azir is known for its swift, sleek dogs, and breeders often congregate at a racetrack near the outskirts of town to test their hounds' speed. Today the track has drawn a boisterous crowd of gamblers who shout bets, laugh, and occasionally curse their luck following a bad race. With so many people seeking relaxation and distraction, the track is a hotbed for gossip and news.
Once again I will take a Bluff (pass hidden message), Diplomacy (Gather Info), or Knowledge (Local) check.
Kargen Hapspring |
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Kargen mingles through the crowd, buying a few drinks and joking around with the bettors. He asks around if anyone has seen a down on his luck copper merchant. "Goes by the name of Maroc. I was hoping he and I could do some business."
Navi Titania |
Tarquin shows the picture to Navi and asks her to look for him.
Navi zips off and flies through the crowd looking for the individual stealthily.

Navi returns after a few minutes and says "Hey! Listen!" informs Tarquin that Maroc isn't here.
Kargen has better luck. One portly Garundi with thick stubble and a dirty shirt happily gulps down Kargen's offered drink and mentions that he won three straight bets against Maroc earlier in the day. "Said 'e needed coin, for slaves or some such, aye. But," he chuckles with a grin revealing several missing teeth, "he di'n't get it, eh? Heh heh. When he ran out o' coin, said he was off to the Jistka Bathhouse to drown 'is troubles."
Kargen Hapspring |
"The Jistka bathhouse? And where might that be?"
-Posted with Wayfinder
Nokazi Stoneclaw |
Fenrik asks around...... and does not get much info but maybe a few possible locations of taverns if ill repute...
"This Maroc man wouldn't be a distant relative of yours, would he Fenrik? It appears you both share a love of the drink. Did you visit the bathhouse recently?"
GMTrex |
Different kind of drowning; less alcohol, more bath salts. :)
"The Bathhouse? Just head that way and look fer a fancy marble building. Can't miss it."
Kargen Hapspring |
Kargen nods. "Much obliged." He looks to the others. "Anyone feel lile a dip?"

Fenrik Wolfblade |
@Nozaki- "Probably not, my family was from Brevoy area but died in a noble dispute. Sounds like a guy I would not mind hanging out with though. Not much of a gambler I am, but I can drink the free liquors while he gambles. But I am game to visit the bathhouse..."
GMTrex |
The Jistkan Baths is one of the oldest bathhouses in Azir, and local legend claims the building dates back to the long-gone Jistkan civilization that once ruled northern Rahadoum. Any such evidence of this ancient heritage have been lost to centuries of repairs, yet the well-maintained marble facade nonetheless advertises an elegant facility. For the admission price of 1gp, anyone can make use of this mixed-gender bathhouse for the day.
Tarri Millfurrough |
"For some reason people don't much care for Hugo in bath houses." Tarri says. "I'll stay out here with Hugo and make sure we don't miss him."
Fenrik Wolfblade |
"suit yourself." Fenrik says giving Tarri a pat on the head as he walks into the bathhouse.

Tarquin tosses the coin at the counter and accepts the towel.

Baal-Hostem |
Baal drops a coin at the desks, accepts a towel and posts himself at the entrance to ensure the groups well-being while they bathe.
"Tarri, check around back for additional exits so we can be sure we've got everywhere covered." Baal says to Tarri, approving of her plan.
GMTrex |
Okay, so Tarri is staying outside, Baal is staying at the front entrance, and everyone else is going in. Let me know if I missed something.
Upon entering the bathhouse and paying the price of admission at the front desk, you enter a prim hallway leading to the main bath--a wide pool filled with relaxing gossipers, playing children, and athletic swimmers--with another leading off to a changing and storage area. A servant posted at the intersection addresses you as you approach.
"Welcome, guests. This Bathhouse is a place of rest, relaxation, and pleasure. On this floor you will find the main bath and the hot bath, while downstairs you will find the sauna, cleansing showers, and the cold bath. We can offer free and secure storage for your gear while you bath. Please, if I may take your things, so as not to disturb the other guests?"
For everybody except Baal and Tarri, please let me know what you choose!
Fenrik Wolfblade |
"Thanks for the offer but I am not giving up my sword that easily. It is the only thing left as a remembrance of my father and if you all lose it I shan't think of how angry i would be at you all. Best if i keep it near me in its sheath....No again I must insist I won't let it part my sight. But thank you very much." Fenrik says cordially and then forcefully to keep his sword at his side.
Tarquin-RK |
"Same here mate. It's for your own safety. Can't have some curious kid open the wrong vial and hurt himself. I'll leave my weapons though." Tarquin says and drops his morningstars off.

Kargen nods and takes off his gear. He unstrings his bow and slides the bowstave into his efficient quiver Then he moves over to the storage lockers to put away his armor, quiver, and backpack. The Inquisitor wraps one of his dagger into a spare towel, which he then hangs around his neck. Returning to the desk, he comments, "Well, it really wouldn't do the bow any good to be in such wet conditions anyway."
He looks at the others with a wink. "Speaking of other guests, sir. Do you happen to know into which bath a man named Maroc went? He said to meet him here to discuss a business opportunity he had."
No weapons and no divine spells? Kargen's just got his wits and charm left.
Oriandor Coronalis |
Oriandor stores his equipment, requesting a large robe so he can hide his tail from those who would be abject to its presence.
Looking at the others, the tiefling sighs. "It's not every day you get to enjoy a Kelish-style bathhouse; you should enjoy it gentlemen."
Tarri Millfurrough |
"Good idea!" Tarri says to Baal, then circles the building searching for additional points of entry.

"Ah yes, I think so. I believe he is downstairs," the servant replies to Kargen.
And indeed, there you find your elusive quarry. Down the stairs, past a broad hallway lined with hooks and shelves that hold dry towels, bottles of scented oil, and a variety of combs and brushes, you come to the frigidarium of the Jistka Bathhouse. Here, the modest either soak in light robes or seek other places. The air is cool and humid and the lighting is dim. Faint lanterns reflect off the water and the sound of running water echoes off the tile floor and walls.
Most of the patrons here are unnerved by several folk carrying weapons, especially some of rather outlandish appearance, and head for the stairs. Several stay behind, however, including one man who ignores you and enjoys his soak in the pool. This man looks exactly like the one in the sketch given to you by Obo.
Kargen Hapspring |
"Maroc, " Kargen says with emphasis. "We represent some old friends. We'd like to ask you for your help. I don't know if you know, but Jahani Jodinaj and her riftwardens have disappeared. Do you know anything about it? We're investigating what happened to them."

Kargen Hapspring |
"Really, Maroc? You're already involved. We know you met with her. What happened? And why is the Pure Legion looking for you? Sasha Antif-Arah sends her regards--healthy and alive from Andoran."

"Ah," says the man after a studied look at Kargen. "That would have my attention. If she is alive, then we can talk more."

Bluffing!: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (5) - 2 = 3
Seeing that none of the Pure Legion are believing what he has to say, he attempts to stall for more time, hoping that Tarri will walk by, or the rest of his companions will hurry up. If he cannot stall the Pure Leigon for long enough, he's gonna pull out a scroll of obscuring mist, cast it and run to grab his companions, yelling a warning.
Tarquin-RK |
Tarquin has all his pots and alchemical stuff with him as well.
Tarquin crosses his arms and stands there waiting for something to happen.
"Look Maroc, just tell us what you know about Jahani and where we can find her."
Fenrik Wolfblade |
Fenrik will let his more diplomatic and silver tongue companions haggle with Maroc while Fenrik watches the comings and goings of others in the bathhouse in case someone comes after the group.
GMTrex |
@ Tarquin: cool, thanks.
"Not here, idiot, this isn't a safe place to talk. We'll--wait, what's that?" Maroc's annoyed reply is cut short by an eruption of what sounds like screaming coming from above. Somebody, or several somebodies, come careening down the stairs shouting but the stone walls make odd echoes and all of it is unintelligible. Only once Baal emerges from the stairwell and spills into the main room does his breathless message become clear: "The Pure Legion! They're here!"
This is made even more clear by the arrival of three Legionnaires at the bottom of the stairs, weapons drawn. "Stop! You there! You're under arrest!" one shouts at Baal.

"Cover the sauna," the leader says, approaching Baal. One runs down the hall and out of sight.

"Ah that's better, some excitement. Take him outside, I'll take care of those two."
Oriandor Coronalis |
"Whoa, whoa, whoa! Things have gotten off on the wrong foot here, no need for the violence, good sirs!", Oriandor standing up, his hands upraised. "Why don't we all calm down, enjoy the bath, and talk about this peaceful-like, 'eh?"

@ Oriandor: diplomacy takes 1 minute of action minimum, and the DC is well into the 40s by now.
"Shut up shut up shut up! Don't you know how to stay cool?!?" Maroc hisses at Kargen. "I don't know these people! I'm innocent! They're lawbreakers!" He takes cover in the pool, sinking as low as he can in an attempt to escape notice.
Meanwhile, Baal nearly drops one of the Legionnaires, but he keeps his feet. Tarquin and Nokazi prepare for combat while Oriandor makes a futile attempt to undo the damage.
