Cott moves to the southernmost room on the western side of the central chamber, and scrapes at the handle with his foreclaws, trying to open the door.
If he manages to get it open, he looks around some more.

Cott manages to open the door, although not without gauging some tears in the delicate mahogany.
This opulent bedroom is fit for a king. The bed is enormous, covered in red and gold satin. Armoires and a dresser of the rarest wood line the west and north walls, and a great rug made of the pelts of several rare beasts covers the marble floor of the chamber’s western half. Oil paintings in gilded frames hang on the east and south walls, portraits of various Druman notables painted by masters of the art. Comfortable chairs and a table of carved jade sit in the southeast corner. A thin door with a delicate woven screen occupies the center of the south wall, and to its west, a curtain of filmy red silk covers another doorway.

Skybek enters the bedroom with Cott and begins looking around for evidence of the book.

Cott is only able to identify one portion of the rug, so exotic and rare are the pelts. The one section he does know is a rare variant lion with a bright tawny mane that is found only in certain parts of Casmaron.
Skybek and Kali find nothing of particular interest in this room, excepting of course the ostentatious and stupendous richness of the furnishings.

"Ahh widnae mind takin a wee nap. Yae dae ken that a nap and a nip gae hand and hand. Mind yae, richt noo, Ahh'm on duty and it wouldnae look tae gud tae hae the dwarf sleepin while the rest of yae are workin. So tell me, Mister Besai, if yae weren't lookin in guest rooms, whair would yae look for the book? Ahh cannae imagine they hae a martial arts book display around here."

"Oh, you don't think so, huh? Apparently all these displays gave you that opinion, did they?" Besai mocks, waving at the surrounding wealth.

This large dressing room is no doubt the province of a staggeringly wealthy woman. A magnificent rug, similar in design to the thick fur rug in the master bedroom, covers most of the marble floor of this room, and the walls are lined with twelve slender marble mannequins, each attired in luxurious clothing. To the east, a padded chair lined with white satin sits before a vanity table of carob wood. Atop the vanity are a number of glass bottles and vials, and a small gilded wooden chest with a key in the lock. An enormous mirror is mounted on the east wall.

Cott examines himself in the mirror and preens a bit at his feathers. Then he flops onto the luxurious fur rug and rolls around, savoring the decadent softness against his scales.

Khakil's boredom overcomes his stubbornness as he stands back up and finishes his pout. He wanders into the room and instantly notices the jewelry box. Wary of opening anything these days, the bard casts detect magic on it before inspecting for any sort of trigger that could launch a trap.
"I swear by my performing talent if this is a miniature mimic that latches on my face..."

Unfortunately, he instantly gets distracted when out of the corner of his eye he notices the feminine figures. He looks around at all the slender mannequins and turns to Besai with a smirk.
"See anything else that you'd like to try on? These all seem to fit your dainty style."

Skybek searches the room, especially for secret passages along the eastern wall. He is careful not to damage anything.

Yes. However, upon turning the key and opening it, you find that it is chock full of jewelry.
Quarr, meanwhile, opens up another door. A thick rug with interlocking geometric designs covers the marble floor of this lushly appointed office. Two fatly stuffed leather sofas, an enormous desk of red-tinged wood carved with ancient Osirian motifs, and a large high backed chair fitted with colorful silk cushions dominate the western half of the room. The focus of the eastern half is a tall iron safe, black and imposing, angular runic designs painted in gold about its heavy surface. Four statues of roughly worked marble--winged dwarven forms holding lanterns--flank the safe, two to a side. A wood panel at the center of the southern wall stands strangely askew, and a whiff of sulphur lingers in the air.

"Nooo, this doesn't look at all like it was set up specifically for us...."

Hearing the alchemist and monk frion acrid the way, Cott trots over to see what they've uncovered. Seeing the apparently sprung trap, he moves back out to the pool of water, dips a foot in, then starts a complicated series of maneuvers as he traces his wet for across the stone floor, spelling out a single word to convey his thoughts to his companions.

Kali and Quarr don't detect any traps in the room. Cott dances by himself, to the puzzlement of his fellows.

Quarr first checks the safe and attempts to open it. Once he is done with the safe the little gnome checks what is behind the wooden panel.
This panel is askew. Perhaps I should straighten it.

Safe first, for ease of story. The safe is locked by two separate mechanisms, but Quarr (taking 20) eventually gets both open. Inside the heavy, double-locked iron door is a delicate mesh door of stylized interwoven brass filigree. Beyond this grate are several items, including a ring, some clothing, three massive tomes, and a pair of large iron lockboxes.

"Oh, too lazy to identify them yourself?" Besai snorts. "Fine, I'll get them out. Hey! That's my ring!" He walks up to the safe and pulls the handle on the delicate mesh door.
Suddenly, the entire floor gives way.
Cott: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 FAIL Jenny: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 FAIL
Kali: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 SUCCESS
Khakil: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 FAIL
Quarr: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 FAIL
Skybek: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 FAIL
Besai: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 FAIL
Alone out of the whole group, Kali manages to leap to safety by the desk at the other end of the room. Everyone else goes tumbling thirty feet into a yawning pit Falling damage: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 4) = 12, whereupon the statues, safe, and the safe's contents rain down on their heads Bludgeoning damage: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10. 22 total damage to everybody but Kali, including Jenny and Besai. Everyone but Kali is now at the bottom of a 30 foot pit with sheer walls.
At the bottom of the pit, a nearly-dead Besai stumbles to his feet and searches frantically for his ring. Upon finding it, he casts a spell. He then digs up the clothes too and puts them on, leaving the kimono behind.

Skybek channels energy to heal himself and his companions as a waft of strong ale fills the pit.

"Ale is the only flavor yae get, so Ahh dannae want tae hear yae complain! In the future may Ahh suggest that yae dannae touch anything!
When Besai starts changing clothes, Skybek looks at him incredulously and asks,"Mister Besai, why are yae more interested in changing yer clothes and wearin the ring, than seein if those books are the ones we're lookin fer. Ahh wouldnae say that yer live up tae yer part o' the bargain."
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Does Skybek detect anything unusual about Besai? Does he think the ring really belongs to him. Why is he changing clothes? Are they his original clothes from before he was captured?
Calling out of the pit, Skybek declares, "Khali, mae friend, could yae toss us one end o' yer rope?,we could use a wee bit o' help here."

Cott tries furtively to tie the end of the rope around Jenny, then glances pleadingly at his companions as his near useless foreclaws simply manage to fray the end of it.

"Achh!, dannae tell me Jenny is still stuck doon there! Ahh see that look in yer eye! Yae dannae need tae say anything. Mind yae, if yae just said something in the first place, Ahh wouldnae hae forgot! Alricht, back doon Ahh gae."
Skybek climbs back down the knotted rope. I am trusting to the DC 5 of climbing a knotted rope.

"Ahh cannae get a grip. Dannae touch me, Ahh'll get it yet!"

"Did somebody ferget tae wash thair hands! Just a minute!"

Finally, Skybek successfully climbs back down into the pit. He then ties the rope around Jenny and calls for the others to hoist her out. When she is successfully brought out of the pit and the rope is lowerd again, Skybek attempts to use the rope to climb out himself.

"Why dinnae they just mak stairs fer us dwarves! Whoever designed this trap did an awful job!"

"Ahh'll get it, just gie me a minute!"

Actually, there are TWO party members in the pit without the requisite anatomy to climb ropes (three if you count Skybek).
Partway through hauling Jenny up, she turns to soup and falls back down again with a sickening *plorp!*.
Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12 FAIL 1 Wis damage
Fort: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26 SUCCESS
Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 FAIL 1 Wis damage

Will: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18 SUCCESS
After several long moments of hideous bubbling, Jenny returns to her normal form and is hauled out. By the time the team gets Cott and Skybek out again, however, Jenny melts again.

But only temporarily! Jenny's current Wisdom score is 9. What's next folks?

I adore what just happened with those rolls.
Khakil watches the vertically challenged dwarf get even more vertically challenged with great amusement. He laughs so hard that he can't even get a breath out and offer to inspire competence in his companion.

He manages to catch some air as Skybek finally struggles up the rope. He himself practically glides up the wall with his elf-like grace.
