The massive creature lurches unexpectedly to one side and wholly avoids Numair's fireball. Pim does manages to spear a tentacle with his arrow, annoying it more than it really seems to hurt.

@ Maiden: Apologies--it's no longer grappling you, as it could not take a Standard to maintain the grapple, so you can't reverse. You can, however, trying to grapple it on your own, at which you would be successful. I'll assume that.

Not entirely sure that this is correct but because it's cool (and you'll take it out this round anyway) I am ruling thusly:

Broken Arrow (Even means it's good): 1d2 ⇒ 1

The Maiden pants as she feels what's left of her ribs. Her first day as a Qadrian Merchant and the costume is already soaked in blood. Her arrow lies broken in the sands where the Gnolls fled.

"Well, that was...entertaining." She grunts. "Next time I will walk with the proper rhythm as to not attract the worms."

"Wait, that's a thing? You can walk so they don't notice you?" Pim asks Charis as he moves closer. "That would be good to know about. Anyway, that was a tough beastie, I'm glad you're okay. Can I heal you a bit?"

He slips his bow onto his shoulder and pulls a slender wand from his belt pouch, reaching up to tap some of the contusions on Charis' torso. He then reaches out and lays a hand on a gash on the side of her leg, utters a brief prayer to Erastil, and sends healing energy into the wound, quickly closing it up.

It doesn't look like Charis has a wand of CLW, so I've used Pim's. If she does have one, he'll happily use that, or others can throw in a charge or two. But those (surprisingly good) rolls will get her to full hp.

Numair uncovers a poorly hidden cache of items stuffed between the exposed roots of a palm tree. He pulls out a fancy (if dented) silver cup, an alchemy crafting kit, a vial of antitoxin, two flasks of alchemist's fire, two flasks of liquid ice, two potions (one grey and the other white), and variety of mismatched coins.

About 100 feet west of the pool stands a lone, weathered stone, partially buried in the sand. The Pathfinders take a few hours to rest in the shade and watch the sun make its slow track across the sky. When the sun is only a hand's width from the horizon, an odd glint begins to shine on the distant stone--a hieroglyph made of hammered brass, depicting an arch.

The stone's long shadow points northwest and, curiously, does not move at all as the sun slowly sets. The Pathfinders have found their bearing.

A chill breeze serves as a remind that the cold desert night will soon arrive--continue on, or wait until morning?

"I agree, we should move on as quickly as possible. We're making good progress, maybe we'll arrive first to the site."

Since the spell is still active, Eveline is not affected by the coming chill. She takes notes of others, though, if they feel the cold bite their bones.

Deciding to press on, the party marches quickly into the rapidly cooling desert. The moonlight grants some limited visibility and Eveline's wayfinder keeps them on their bearing. Still they each privately wonder how long the journey will be, as one hour folds into two, then three, then five. Finally, a low, uneven hill of granite to the northwest breaks the monotony of dune after dune, presenting the only shelter for miles around. Although the crag appears solid from a distance, on closer examination there is a wide fissure in the rock sealed by a heavily weathered stone wall fitted with a huge iron door partially buried in the sand.

Kailun detects no magic and whatever tracks may have been here have been blown away by the wind. Numair notes a message emblazoned above the gate.

Ancient Osiriani or DC 20 Linguistics:
It reads, Welcome weary traveler, take rest from the winds.

Charis gives Lionel the nod and the Calistran heaves and has only the slight crunch of resisting sand to show for his effort. A Take 20 will get you there. After a second try with the help of Pim, the big man manages to push the gate open wide enough to pass.

The wind greedily gusts about the small courtyard beyond, filling the air with fine grit. Corpses litter the area, little more than bone and desiccated, leathery skin. A dry well occupies the center, surrounded by the remnants of an outdoor market, though even the best tent is tattered and leans precariously. To the east, a set of low steps rise to a set of stone doors surrounded by symmetrical wall carvings of pharaohs. Stairs to the south ascend to the outer wall.

Kailun:
You note that, in addition to the displayed hieroglyphs, there are scratches and chips in the stone that approximate another at the end--perhaps naturally created, perhaps not. With this included, the full translation is "take rest from the winds of time."

Inside the courtyard, the swirling winds and sand make it rather difficult to see, and everyone is on edge. As if Charis had fulfilled a spell with her words, three vague shapes rise at the far end of the courtyard. The spear's wasp-shaped tip impacting hard into the undead's torso, Lionel grabs the spear by the end, ready to strike at any incoming foes. "Gotcha covered, folks!"

Pim/etc.: Knowledge (Arcana) for the big fella.

Judging by the green-ish pallor of their dried skin, Charis judges the man-sized creatures to be plague zombies. As the name implies, they carry plague. Three questions.

The Maiden's arrow lodges in the hulking figure's throat. It does not seem to mind much. Lionel throws his weight behind a spear thrust into its gut and momentarily off-balances it. Again, the barb seems less impactful than it should have been. This is manifested by the creature lumbering toward Lionel and smacking him upside the head with a meaty fist.

Slam @ Charis: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 MISS

Amid the whirling sand, a nigh-overpowering stench of rot fills the air. Everyone must make a DC 12 Fort save before they act or spend the next round vomiting be nauseated for 1 round.

Round I -- bold may act!
1. Charis, Lionel (17/27 hp, Fort save!)
2. Undead (big guy @ 14 dmg)
3. Eveline, Kailun, Numair, Pimwrick

Numair fights back a rising wave of nausea.

"Focus on the big thing - I'll handle the little ones..."

He then casts a by-now familiar spell, summoning forth a ball of flame, which he tosses at the red zombie.

Kailun can't fight a wave of nausea and vomits copiously into the sand. About as much sand gets in his mouth at the same time, making the experience that much more unpleasant. But it passes. It's just one round!

1d20 ⇒ 17

Dry and slow, Numair's target catches fire with alarming rapidity. The unlife that powers it clings to its control of the vessel, but only just.

Round I -- bold may act!
