Brevon coughs as the blood-red vapors invade his lungs. They rebel, threatening to free themselves of his chest cavity. He hacks and coughs, gripping the podium next to him as he falls to one knee, unable to breath. His face is as red as the cloud.

The world begins to fade away, spinning crazily around him. His blade, gripped weakly in his hand, captures his reflection. Except...it isn't his face that stares back. Gone is his golden mane, his thick beard, and his heavy brow, replaced now by a face much gentler. Locks of auburn hair fly free in the wind. Supple skin, the color of cream, invites a hand to touch. Soft hazel eyes beseech him. Get up. Keep going.

His cough breaks into a sob, and the vision is gone. He shudders, a minor shockwave of euphoria numbing his pain (Swift action to LoH self).

He clambors to his knees, then back to his feet.

"Kai, Elriel!" His voice is ragged and rough. "We must surround her! All together!"

He lunges forward, mustering his strength into a wild swing.

Elriel sees his friends fall to their knees, some not getting up.

he wants to slit the dretch's throat before he wakes up but hopes that someone takes care of that. Instead he moves in to flank the half-elf insectoid, hoping someone does the same from the other side.

I don't really have anything to tend to him at this point - lesser rejuvenate eidolon was next on my list, and there'll be good story for it now. ;)

Ever since the fire - every moment since the fire - he'd been there. She'd always been able to call upon him, always been able to feel the energy that flowed through their bond. Even when he was home in Nirvana, she had known, somehow, that he was just a prayer away. That he was all right.

But now...for the first time...

::Kelu? Kelu?!::

...nothing. Just...silence. Emptiness.

And then...rage. Blinding, white-hot rage that slices through the miasma the cultist's spell had created, driving away the nausea and the cramps and the pain the magic had caused. Those were immaterial - losing a piece of her soul was more important.

You - you b%*+$!! Violently she throws her hands forward in an ancient gesture of condemnation. And the white heat of her anger crystallizes around her hands - fragments - shatters into dust, as fear shatters the heart in her chest. In a rush, the mass of crystalline powder blows forward, shooting straight for the cultist's eyes and blanketing her in a warm glow, a stark contrast with the murky haze of the unholy blight.

Like Rukzha said, I can get glitterdust off on them before everyone else moves in. ;) DC15 Will or blinded.

You have to roll to stabilize for Kelumarion. It's quite cool that we get justification of our choices/development from what happens to our characters.

Rukzha is dissapointed to see the monsterous woman easily batter aside Elriel's blade, however things doesn't quite turn out the way you would expect. She can practically feel the power crackling to the air as his blade luckily glances of the scythe only to head straight for the unprotected area under her armpit. My lucky boon worked! She rejoices, I only wish I had a way to make it last longer.

Botting Kai.

Arrika casts her spell but unfortunately the cultist has little trouble resisting it. Soon after Irabeth comes inside the room with her sword unsheathed and glowing with the power of Iomedae, "Finally! The wardstone is within our reach... Iomedae blessed us! We shall prevail!" she then stroke her blade and pierced the cultist's shoulder.

Kai then followed the woman and was able to grapple her, locking her and preventing her from defending herself, and Elriel soon stabbed with his sword, helped by Rukzha's strange magic... to his surprise, the bone of a femur jumped to life, somehow blocking a portion of the damage he expected to cause! Brevon followed with a clumsy attack that failed to pierce her armor of bones.

Without too much option, the cultist struggled against Kai's iron grip and luckily, or by the influence of her dark lord, she manage to escape, stepping away from the monk.

"Irabeth! Hold a second so I can bless you with some luck." Rukzha shouts out to be heard over the noise of weapons striking flesh, bone and armor. Her hand haven't left the scar on her arm from blessing Elriel just earlier, but her grip tightens as the power is channeled through it.

Hopefully Irabeth delays, then Rukzha will use Fortune on her.

She looks over at the wardstone, then at Arrika carrying the rod of cancelation. "Hmm, I wonder what would happen if we neutralized the shard now. Then at least that would have been dealt with no matter what happens in the battle."

The opponent proved much tougher than expected and that bone partially blocking his blade had been totally unexpected.

He yelled at those surrounding the dretch, "Somebody kill it for good, before it wakes up!"

He said...he always said his allies were there, if I needed aid... She could still feel the unconscious agathion's spirit drawing on her, grasping at the energy in her body to keep himself on the plane though his life force ebbed away...but then she remembers the wand in a pouch at her waist. It wouldn't draw on her own energy, but the energies channeled by the wand - and it meant she wouldn't have to send her friend away.

Pulling the small, slender rod of wood out, she points it at the fray ahead and murmurs a prayer, eyes filling with tears as she finishes with the incantation Rukzha had taught her. And through the haze, she sees her prayers answered - from nowhere, a pack of glowing, otherworldly hounds manifests, filling out the ring surrounding the cultist. Kelumarion had always told her stories of the hunts against the wicked creatures threatening to tear Nirvana apart...now, she got to see it firsthand.

Arrika started to cast a spell from her wand while Kelumarion still bleed in the ground. Hearing Rukzha's warning, Irabeth took her time, getting ready to strike... she did, and even with Rukzha's magic she wasn't able to pierce through the cultist's defense, her attacking stopping against a profane barrier.

Kai came in, taking advantage of Irabeth's position to strike her and is able to slash her but once more the mysterious bone protected her a bit. Elriel sidestepped to flank with Brevon and managed to strike twice in her weak spots, drawing blood once more and once more hampered by the flying bone... it had protected both against Elriel's piercing attack and against Kai' slash.

Wishing not to take his chance with the cultist and the demon, Brevon finished the wretched creature. The cultist tried to retaliate but even she doubted her attack would hit and the result did not disappointed her. Once more moving away from those surrounding her, the cultist prayed to her patron and again the cursed mist swept over you... Kalumarion vanished in a golden glow and Irabeth, Kai, and Rukzha almost blacked out... how many more clouds will you endure?

Mechanically what you are trying to do won't currently work Elriel, you need her to be blocked from 5 footing away. If you move SW, Kai moves S and Brevon moves to the square S of Irabeth it'll work though. You should prob tell the others where to move though. I'm just trying to help out so the mechanics match the intention of the character.

Looks like everyone's hands are full anyway (Irabeth and Brevon with sword and shield, Kai with grappling)...time to do the thing! :D

Rukzha's words finally manage to break through Arrika's haze of anger...and the shame threatens to overwhelm her. We've got a job...bigger than any of us... It doesn't matter that he's - gone...we've got to do this. And the incantation's going to take too long...I can't take another of those clouds...

The wand drops to the ground, the incomplete incantation forgotten. Arrika's eyes dart around the battle, waiting for the opportune moment. And when Kai reaches out for the woman's arms, trying to pin them to her sides, Arrika makes her move. Rushing through the door and praying she can outrun the woman's blade, she draws forth the rod, preparing to draw the latent power from the damaged wardstone. This has to work!

Stopping the summoning cast and delaying my action until after Kai grabs Jeslyn. If he's successful, she can't attack with her scythe, and thus she can't AoO me. If he's not successful, following is an Acrobatics check to avoid provoking. Move action to move and draw the rod, standard action to drain the wardstone.

Come on, good roll... Acrobatics to avoid provoking v. her CMD: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 2 - 1 = 8

@Rukzha: Noticed that I've missed your check earlier, but kind of moot in this case since it was not enough to know anything about what would happen to the wardstone. You also don't know about the defending bone.

@Elriel: Since she moved before casting, you lost the flanking and the sneak attack.

Arrika's wand finally kicks in and three gorgeous dogs appear around the cultist, circling around and biting... the cultist swings her scythe and reaps one of them in a puff of golden cloud and also blocks all of their attacks. At least the managed to distract her a bit.

Rukzha heals herself and Irabeth keeps trying to finish the cultist of but her blows are constantly being blocked by the enemy's armor of bones. Kai also misses with his grapple attempt but all the action around the cultist was enough to allow Arrika to slip past her while drawing the rod of cancelation. In her hurry, she almost missed the stone while attempting to touch it... both the rod and the wardstone fragment started to glow but it appeared that the rod wasn't strong enough. Perhaps a couple more seconds would be enough though...

Meanwhile Elriel followed the cultist and Brevon once more attempted to finish her and just like Irabeth, the paladin was having trouble to get past her armor. She then started to cast another spell but, perhaps too worried about Elriel's threat, she misscasted the spell and soon the half-elf stroke true, piercing her shoulder.

I meant to say hold action until she tries to cast, attack, or MOVE. I didn't want her to get away from my flanking/sneak attack. My bad. :(

Elriel blinked as the dogs appeared but they seemed to be on their side. The cat thing's friends?

He signaled and waited for the dog to get on the other side and struck out again, not waiting and hoping to put an end to the cultist once and for all.

I moved everyone on the map in the way that makes most sense to not provoke AoO. I guess someone can swap with the dog in the corner if either the dog sacrifices itself to draw AoO or someone decide to risk it (Brevon). Getting flanking would be good.

Rukzha draws in a deep breath as the rod touches the wardstone. She's eager to see what might happen, but she's dissapointed when nothing does. "Keep trying Arrika! I'm sure you'll get it!"

The half-Orc turns her attention back to the battle. "Kai! You can do it! Grab her with my luck!" Rukzha says eagerly as she clutches the self-inflicted scar on her arm to bestow the last of her lucky powers for the day.

Arrika got past the cultist last round and the dogs drew an AoO. The question was if someone (like yourself) should get into the corner instead of the dog in order to benefit from flanking. @Toothy: Remember that Elriel's bleed damage count as continuous damage for concentration.

Even if Arrika hasn't posted yet, I believe her action will b using the rod again, right?

Irabeth once more attacks the cultist and this time her attacks is able to overcome her armor, deeply hurting her. Soon after the celestial god tries to bite her ankle without any success. Arrika once more tries to destroy the wardstone fragment with the rod of cancelation... the rod and the wardstone glow even more until it is almost unbearable to look upon it, but Arrika is able to see fracture lines running along the piece of sacred stone. The whole time the fragment vibrates...

Jeslyn looks even paler to the pedestal, blood running from her mouth, eyes, nose, and ears, as she screams but no sound comes out of her mouth... in fact, the whole place is in deed silence. A fraction of a second later, you all are sent flying away from the stone. Brevon and Kai are blown to opposite sides of the room, while Elriel flies towards the west stairs, landing besides Rukzha. Arrika flies upward, hitting the ceiling before sliding along the wall and Irabeth hits the wall, effectively changing places with the cultist.

Hundreds of razor-sharp shards of stone spray outward, destroying the black steel cage the fragment was inside. Miraculously none of you are hit by them. Soon after, the room is swept by waves of white and holy energy, an almost palpable energy, each wave burning the cultist and the dead minotaur, until there is nothing but ashes in their places... If the holy energies stored in all of the wardstones were waters of a vast lake formed by a dam, then the destruction of the fragment was just like making a hole on it. With the exception of Irabeth, who was shielded by the dying cultist, the rest of you start to shine, infused with the artifacts energy. The power surging through your body overwhelms every sense, paralyzing and blinding you...

Still stunned, you all receive a vision of the first wardstone being erected in the Kite in Kenabres in 4639 AR, in a ritual involving the aid of the Hand of the Inheritor, the herald of Iomedae: a golden, winged angel with a halo of small swords around his head. The event happens soon after the Second Crusade begins.

In the year of 4665 AR, you see a vision of a 20-year-old Huldrun leading the burning of dozens of supposed "witches" in the courtyard of the Kite before the wardstone. This event launches the Third Crusade.

In the year 4692 AR, you see a vision of Khorramzadeh the Storm King leading a brazen attack on Kenabres. The Storm King manages to strike a resounding blow with his sword against the wardstone, which suffers only the tiniest of cracks as the balor's sword shatters. Khorramzadeh is then attacked and forced to flee when the silver dragon Terendelev nearly kills him... this event launches the Fourth Crusade.

In the year 4712 AR, you see a vision of Irabeth chasing a burly dwarven man, Staunton Vhane into the courtyard containing the wardstone. Both paladins are heavily wounded, and as Staunton backs against the wardstone, smoke rises and he screams in pain. He ducks to avoid one of Irabeth's blows, then manages to smash her knee with his hammer, dropping her to the ground. Staunton seems ready to deliver a death blow, but the sound of approaching soldiers forces him instead to back away and summon a fiendish giant wasp that he swiftly mounts and then flies away to the north, abandoning Kenabres.

You see a vision of Minagho, a beautiful demonic woman with a long thin tail, clawed hands, and curling horns protruding from where her eyes should be, placing the wardstone fragment in this room and of Jeslyn using a wish granted by Minagho to create the cage around it before Minagho teleports away.

You see a vision of an event you know will now never happen... Areelu Vorlesh using a deep purple Nahyndrian crystal the size of a human's head to corrupt the fragment, causing the entire border to flash with nauseating mauve fire that devastates the border cities and transforms countless crusaders into half-fiend slaves of the Worldwound. You realize at this point that the demons' entire plan was to draw as many crusaders to the border to defend it from their attacks, in order to maximize the damage this event would have caused.

The visions stop and you find yourselves still stunned and shinning in the room. In front of you, a somewhat transparent beautiful demonic woman with batlike wings, a horned brow, and glowing red eyes appear in front of you with a smoldering, furious expression, "This only delays your kind's extinction. But at least I can take steps to hasten your own." you recognize her from the previous visions... she is the witch Areely Vorlesh.

Again on her feet, Irabeth grabs her father's sword and charges the image of demonic woman, but with just a wave of her hand Irabeth stops dead on her tracks, grasping at her throat and she suddenly seems to be suffocating. The woman seems frustrated when the same doesn't happen to you all, "The death throes of your wardstone seem to be protecting you from my magic. No matter. They cannot protect you from my slaves!"

With this, Areelu spreads wide her arms and a rift tears open in reality. A half-dozen babaus tumble through into the room, and beyond them you catch glimpses of even greater demons preparing to enter... vrocks, glabrezus, even a marilith... when suddenly the energy infusing you pulses back outward. You feel no longer stunned. In the same moment the spell affecting Irabeth is dispelled and she drops to the ground unconscious. As this happens, the powerful energy hits the Abyssal rift and slams it shut... Areelu screams in pain as the magical feedback tears into her body, breaking bones and shredding her wings. An instant later, her projected image vanishes.

In front of you remains eight Babaus... emaciated figures who look like horned human skeletons smothered within a bone-tight hide of slimy and bloodied leather. You are still glowing with the wardstone's power...

The vision of the witch was very disturbing but Elriel felt that there was something else going on here. Something that he should feel good about.

The reality of the babaus attempted to crush his spirit. Powerful demons he had only read about and heard tales of how they tore crusaders apart.

A moment passed, or was it more? The visions had overwhelmed him, made him believe that they had failed, that he was departing the physical world and passing toward the Boneyard.

And he had been glad of it.

But this was something else, something unexpected. His body is not ruined. Indeed, he feels more alive than he can ever remember. His armor is unscathed, shining gloriously in the light of the ward stone's energy. And his scimitar, it rests neatly in his palm, as though placing itself there of its own accord.

And the demons. They appear as ants, crawling over one another in a chaotic mess. He knows he should be afraid, and yet...

He steps protectively over the broken body of Irabeth, his eyes burning with purpose, reflecting the light of his blade. He strikes out at the nearest demon, nearly beheading it.

I wonder what the odds of none of the shards hitting any of us are. Rukzha ponders as the shards fly everywhere except their direction.

She had seen the entire history of the wardstone - the entire history of a war spanning over a century. But there was more Arrika saw, in that flash of light and cavalcade of images that had seemed to last a lifetime. Every abjuration worked into the wardstone's protections...every evil spell that had tried to cross the barrier, only to dissipate into nothingness...every trick the demons had tried to breach the line of standing stones...all were imprinted in the remnant that had fragmented around them. Those traces, and more than traces, still lingered, and that was what had washed over the room, what had so overwhelmed the mind and body that Arrika had been forced to her knees.

And she'd understood...everything. Every pattern, every line of energy flow. It was the learning of a lifetime, and yet, somehow, she'd managed to take it in in only a few short moments. She knew now why her magic was different from the priests', why they had the power to heal where she'd never been able to mend so much as a scratch. Their gods were outside, the priests merely conduits for an energy not their own. But Kelumarion was a part of her...and that had changed her, her mother, and all who'd come before, in ways she only now begins to understand. It may have been the god's presence that brought it about...but the power was hers, and hers alone.

And that meant that her task, her destiny, was her own, too. She had the power to make of her world what she would, to redeem it from the chaos and destruction...to heal, though she'd never so much as mended a scratch. At the triumphant and terrifying thought, the warmth in the back of her mind begins once again to spread into all its familiar spaces. Yes, lioness, she hears, though no one is there to speak. I am herre...I simply rrest forr a time. Now, it is yourr turn. The glow fades from her view, and she is left facing one of the greatest traitors Sarkoris had ever known - Areelu Vorlesh, the witch who had brought it all to madness and ruin. Fear and timidity turn to hot, righteous anger, and as the image shatters, Arrika makes perhaps the rudest gesture anyone's ever seen her make. You're done, b#+@+!! You'll lose!!

Plucking a chunk of the wardstone from the ground, she focuses the surge of energy rushing through her veins into it, singing out a strange, lyrical Celestial chant. With a crash, the floor beneath the babaus' rear flank crumbles; surveying the web of cracks as it forms, it becomes clear all the shards are, inexplicably, the same shape as the fragment between her hands.

Cast create pit where it's at on the map - takes out three and means several more will have to make checks next round if they don't move. DC16 Reflex save to avoid falling in, and good luck figuring out where the nearest spot is for those who make their saves. ;)

These demons are grouped together like lambs ready for slaughter. They might be powerful, but I'll be able to hit them all with my spell, hopefully that'll make this battle manageable. Botting Kai.

Everyone hold their actions until both Rukzha and Arrika had cast their spells. Rukzha blinds almost all of the bloody demons and when Arrika conjures her pit, one of the demons falls into it.

Kai steps forward and attacks with his fists... the first one misses his target spectacularly but his second punch finds the demon's face. Unlike Rukzha mentioned, Kai wasn't harmed at all by the demon's slimy cover. Brevon also is able to attack the creature, slashing it with his holy weapon, while Elriel pierces an opponent with his blade... Weirdly, it appears that all your attacks are being very effective against the demons...

All the blood demons started to chant, clearly summoning more of their kind. Three of them fail to concentrate since they are threatened by you, and two more of the others fall inside Arrika's pit.

The mysterious light surrounding you appears to have empowered you. So far you know that you are resistant to acid, that each attack against the demon overcomes DR and deals an additional 2d6 damage, and that once per turn you can add 1d12 to any d20 roll you just made!

Can you mark the babau's that are currently chanting and that are blind on the map? Edit: I guess you marked them in the round summary, sorry. Shouldn't the ones who didn't fall be moved out of the pit though?

"They are summoning more of their number! We gotta stop them." Rukzha exclaims in alarm as she figures out what they are doing. There are so many of them. Luckily out spells seems to be working. Hopefully this will work too. She focuses her power and her whole neck and one side of her face throbs with pain as it draws out power to try to send one of the demons into dreamland.

Slumber DC 17 vs will on any one of the demons that seem to still be chanting and not blind if any, if there are none she'll target someone chanting, if there are none of those she'll target someone who is not blind.

Stop the ones who are casting! They're calling in more! Arrika calls aloud. Throw something, hit them - anything to disrupt their gestures! Suddenly and inexplicably, Arrika smiles. But two can play at that game - and I play it better! With another loud cry in Celestial, Arrika's hands come together, joining at the thumbs and fluttering in unison; mere moments later, a flock of shining falcons emerge into being, flapping in time with her hands and shooting toward the babaus to attack with beaks and claws.

Standard action, summoning 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 celestial eagles (reflavored as falcons to be more hunting-themed). F1 will attack B5, F2 will attack B8, and F3 will go down into the pit to attack probably B7. All under Augment Summoning, all smiting once they pick their targets. If any hit, the babaus will need to make concentration checks. Do the eagles also get AoOs, since they'll still be casting when the eagles are within range?

F1 bite, talon #1, talon #2, AoO if needed: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 101d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 51d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 191d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 51d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 151d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 51d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 151d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

F3 bite, talon #1, talon #2, AoO if needed: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 161d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 61d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 71d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 51d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 101d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 71d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 151d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

So I see now why IRL tables hate summoners. :P For simplicity's sake I peeked at their AC - F1 is hit once for 5 damage, the others aren't hit at all (unless they benefit from the aura's effects, which I doubt).

Brevon's sword arm vibrates with power, compelling his blade to swing as though it were controlled by some force unseen. His hair crackles with static electricity, and the energy suffusing him feels as though it is traveling from deep within the earth, up through his body, and radiating outward in waves of irrepressable rapture.

"We are alive!" He screams. "By Sarenrae's grace, we are spirits made flesh! Thank you! Thank you!"

He practically leaps forward, consumed with reverent elation, slicing purposefully with his scimitar. It sings with each stroke, joining him in his jubilation.

With the crowded battlefield, Elriel just continued to slash and stab like a madman.

Kai continues to wallop the demons with his fists. Some part of him is shocked at how easily his movements and strikes evade and cut through the demons and their defenses, but another part of him had understood the experience. This energy and holy might, may not have been Irori himself, but the Master's divinity takes many forms. The Wardstone, he knew had channelled it's own Perfection, it's own Divinity into this rag-tag group. Although rag-tag wasn't the right word for it, he was certain now. They were a team. Maybe Heroes one day. Companions bound for whatever fate the Gods designed for them.

But before all of that, this young man was in the now. The one second. The thrilling Perfection only a warrior can experience.

He unleashed a wild Dragon's roar and struck out in a blur of movement at the demon in front of him.

Remeber that you can add 1d12 on a d20 per round. That first attack seems worth it to me. Also doesn't Elbow smash grant you an extra attack, so it's 3 attacks even without using Ki?

Current Map | Loot | Critical-Fumble Generator

Rukzha tries to press her mind against one of the demons but he is able to resist her power. Arrika summon celestial falcons that sweep across the room, trying to stop the demons from calling more allies... Unfortunately only one manages to pierce the demon's hide and draw blood but even so isn't able to break his concentration. Another falcon hits itself and puffs out in a golden cloud.

Kai manages to strike the demon in front of him twice in quick succession, weakening him but not knocking it out. Brevon slashes with his blade horizontally, hitting two demons at once and flaying one of them! Elriel stabs twice and finishes the demon in front of him, sending it to the bottom of the pit.

The demon in front of Kai attacks the monk even if blinded, dropping its spear and clawing and biting... one of his attacks hits the monk but the damage is somehow hampered and he feels no pain at all. One of the demon in the pit finishes its incantation but nothing happens... after a scream of hate, it puffs in a black cloud and appears besides Brevon, and moves towards Rukzha.

The other demon in the pit also finishes its incantation, now with better results and another babau appears in front of Elriel. The new demon makes gestures and soon puts the whole room in a dark sheet... just a couple seconds later, the light emanating from you disperses his darkness. Infuriated, the demon tries to sneak pass Elriel but Kai is fast with his retaliation. The demon in the pit who finished the incantation then finishes the falcon above it.

The last demon being attacked by the falcon fails his summoning and soon after bites the bird's head off. It then thrusts his spear blindly, hitting him but once more failing to pierce the magical protection created by the light. The demon fighting Brevon misses all his attacks after dropping his spear.

The last two demons summoning also fail and soon gang on Arrika. The first hits her both with its spear and then with its bite, and even if the mystical protection prevents any damage from its bite, its spear wounds her tight. Moving behind her, the last demon draws blood from her neck
